The Neptune retrograde cycle is a period of increased receptiveness, even if we’re putting some of our dreams on hold. It can be a time of indecision or feeling in limbo, but it can also be a period of personal discovery. We may feel let down by a matter when the shift happens, but this can lead us along a new and improved path.

A Full Moon occurs when the Sun in Cancer forms an opposition to the Moon in Capricorn at 4:37 PM EDT on July 10th, 2025. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time – a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.

To understand this Full Moon, we need to recognize that the Cancer-Capricorn polarity concerns the balance between the private life, domesticity, the need for a home base, and nurturance (represented by Cancer) versus the public life, career, reputation, and accountability (represented by Capricorn). Attachments and love are ruled by Cancer, while achievements and rewards/punishments are ruled by Capricorn.

In some ways, this polarity deals with the balance between unconditional love and conditional love. Cancer encourages us to value our home base and our roots, while Capricorn persuades us to consider our sense of duty and responsibility along public or professional lines. While Cancer may be content to be dependent, Capricorn urges us to be grown-up and responsible.

Cancer represents the origin, and Capricorn represents the goal. Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire on us. Ideally, a balance should be found between the two energies, and this is what the Full Moon invites us to do.

This Full Moon is about balancing our commitment to our career and families. Something has been building inside of us, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out. Over the next two weeks, we will discover what this means for us. For now, we can’t sit on our feelings. We need to express them.

The Full Moon illuminates this conflict between roots and direction. With the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives. However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as there is a sense of emotions bursting forth into our consciousness. It’s time to express ourselves and to let things out of our systems.

Of course, we might want to exercise some care while doing so, knowing that what is coming out of us is fresh, unrefined, and not particularly rational as yet.

Mercury now turns retrograde at 15° Leo 34′.

Mercury is retrograde from July 18th, at 15° Leo 34′, until August 11th, at 4° Leo 15′.

Note that the shadow period begins before Mercury turns retrograde–when Mercury first passes over the degree that Mercury later returns to in retrograde motion. The shadow period ends when Mercury again passes over the degree at which it first turned retrograde. The shadow period is different than Mercury’s storm period in astrology, which refers to the period when Mercury is moving especially slowly.

Note that Mercury’s post-retrograde shadow is generally better for new long-term endeavors than the pre-retrograde shadow. For new enterprises in the pre-retrograde shadow, the venture’s secondary progressed Mercury will turn direction (retrograde) in the coming years which may not be ideal.

Also note that things are most wonky on the days of the stations whether Mercury is turning retrograde OR direct (the start and end date of the retrograde cycle) as the shifts occur, after which we grow more accustomed to the energy.

Mercury is retrograde approximately three times a year for around three weeks each time. As such, retrograde Mercury is a fairly common occurrence (Mercury is retrograde approximately 18% of the time).

As the planet of communication, Mercury retrograde tends to breed a certain level of confusion. Mercury rules our “lower” mind–how we perceive and interpret information that we receive from our environment, and how we relay that information to others. Mercury has rulership over such things as speaking, negotiating, buying and selling, listening, formal contracts, documents, travel, the mail and shipping, and so forth. All of these areas of life are affected when Mercury is functioning in a sluggish state. Decision-making is challenged during Mercury retrograde.

Needless to say, it is not advised to sign contracts, engage in important decision-making, or launch a new business. Delays and challenges are more probable with Mercury retrograde. It’s a time when being careless with money, our personal information, or paperwork can be costly.

While Mercury is retrograde, we may be rethinking a previous opinion or idea. Looking to the signs and houses it transits can give clues as to what we may be reconsidering.

There is absolutely a positive side to Mercury Retrograde. This period is best used for re-organizing and reflecting. We look at the world a little differently–through different filters–and can come up with some very important inner revelations. It may be difficult to communicate them under this influence, but not everything needs to be rationalized.

Mercury retrograde periods can be times of heightened inner awareness, when meditation, benefiting from keeping a journal, reworking old plans, and reviewing past work are favored. Mercury retrograde is powerful for studies, particularly for returning to old studies or for re-learning or refreshing knowledge in a subject already taken.

Minor breaks in the mechanical aspects of communication can actually reconnect us to other means of communication, such as when there is an unexpected power outage and we’re forced off the computer and television, finding different and often satisfying ways to entertain ourselves.

It is important to note that there is absolutely no reason to suspend projects or anything of the sort during the Mercury Retrograde cycle. It’s not an ideal time to start new ones or to sign contracts, simply because a change of mind is quite likely once Mercury turns direct. However, it’s a fabulous time to do some “outside of the box” thinking. Acting on our ideas, however, might be best left for a Mercury Direct period.

Pay close attention to what you say and communicate in general, particularly around the days of Mercury’s stations (in this case, July 18th and August 11th), as well as around retrograde Mercury’s conjunction to the Sun (called the “inferior conjunction“) on July 31st.

If you are itching to make a point with someone, especially, or if you are planning on “signing on the dotted line,” try to hold off. It is likely that you will have a change of mind once the station passes, and you can do some damage in the meantime.

When a planet stations, its energies are very strong in our lives. When Mercury stations, communications have more impact, so that negative ones could have long-term implications at this time. However, if you are very clear within yourself and about what you are communicating, this can be a positive thing.

With Mercury Retrograde in Leo:

This is a time for reconsidering an initiative or venture. It’s strong for returning to an old project or pursuit.

It can be a period for returning to old hobbies or forms of recreation with a renewed perspective. We may be thinking about past accomplishments, loves, and creations more frequently, seeing them a little differently now. Past ideas and perceptions of lovers, children, and creative pursuits can emerge and change. Mercury in Leo likes to be on top of things, and this can be a time when a lot of little things can go wrong, however, so it can be frustrating at times.

We may be returning to past projects and refining or tweaking them. We can find usefulness in old or past ideas and recycle them in new ways. We might consider renewing past ventures where we may have had false starts, but this should be done in a new way for things to work this time around. With Mercury in Leo, we prefer to learn from our own experience rather than instruction, and not listening during this Mercury retrograde period can be especially costly.

Retrograde Mercury aligns with the Sun in Leo mid-retrograde — on July 31st, 2025 — bringing illumination to our thoughts. This inferior conjunction presents a favorable time for processing recent events and ideas, and for beginning to look at problems or issues from a new perspective and with a new understanding. What we say or write now has an impact, for better or for worse! Significant new ideas can be birthed at this time.

The New Moon in Leo is an excellent time for formulating goals regarding “all things Leo.” For example, we might concentrate on new ways to enhance our romantic life, creative endeavors and hobbies, and relationship with children, as well as build our self-confidence and healthy pride in ourselves.

Some of Leo’s lessons involve taking pride in ourselves as unique individuals, assuming responsibility for our lives, and giving ourselves warmly and generously to others. This New Moon period is an excellent time to meditate upon some of the characteristics of Leo. Keywords for this self-expressive Fire sign — such things as proud, noble, generous, hospitable, caring, warm, authoritative, active, and open — are traits that we might enhance, develop, and incorporate into our personalities.

We all have Leo somewhere in our charts. Use the coming month to improve those areas of life. It’s time to awaken our “inner child” and find ways to express ourselves creatively. With this potent Leo energy, we can make significant changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. A Full Moon occurs when the Sun in Leo at 17 degrees and 0 minutes forms an opposition to the Moon in Aquarius at 17 degrees and 0 minutes.

Our feelings blossom now. Full Moons are about connecting us with things we already know but aren’t acknowledging, such as buried feelings, or they bring secrets to light and projects to a turning point.

The Leo Sun is proud and intensely individual–not content with simply being just one of the team. The Aquarius Moon, while individualistic as well, values independence and the team, community, and group spirit. The Full Moon illuminates this conflict.

When a Full Moon occurs, we can suddenly burst forth with proclamations and outpours that seem fresh and new, simply because they are not yet rationalized. In fact, a Full Moon illuminates feelings, attitudes, and circumstances that are already in existence.

This is a time of awakening to the need for others or to answer to humanitarian impulses.

Because this lunation occurs around the same time Mars in Libra opposes Saturn and Neptune in Aries, there can be some tension now.  With this configuration, a quest for more meaningfulness in our pursuits can be behind some of the stress we feel now. There could be a choice about sacrificing something for a cause or a better future. It can be hard to rise to challenges now. Our energy is stop-and-go, and we can feel depleted until we not only find inspiration but have a plan to work toward our goals.

Saturn sextile Uranus

Saturn, at 1° Aries 12′, forms a sextile with Uranus, at 1° Gemini 12′ on August 11, 2025. This is the second of three in this set (as with many outer-planet transits, this aspect repeats three  times over the course of many months).

When Saturn and Uranus connect, we see how we combine tradition and progress, stability and change, development, and innovation.

With Saturn forming a sextile to Uranus, it’s a time when we’re more likely to be doing what we enjoy, and enjoying what we’re doing, mainly related to career, work, and life path matters, but extending to other areas of life. Events occurring now build character, and life lessons are digestible. It’s a period of solid, meaningful progress.

This can be a time to solidify connections, bond with allies, and work on the primary structures of our lives. The changes we make can have long-lasting benefits. Original ideas may take form or develop quite successfully now. There is an opportunity to combine stability and improvement or excitement with good results. The same can be said about innovation and tradition.

While this aspect forms infrequently, when it does occur, it usually perfects three times over the course of about ten to eleven months. Rarely, it is a one-time pass.

For example, in 1996-1997, Saturn formed a sextile to Uranus first in May 1996, perfected the aspect again in November 1996, and then formed for the final time in March 1997. This occurs due to planetary retrogrades. In effect, we can say that the Saturn-Uranus sextile was in effect from May 1996 to March 1997.

In 2025-2026, Saturn forms a sextile to Uranus in April 2025, then August 2025, and finally, January 2026. Effectively, it’s in play from April 2025 to January 2026.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 0 degrees and 23 minutes of Virgo. This New Moon in Virgo forms a yod pattern with its quincunxes to Saturn/Neptune and Pluto as well as a square to Uranus.

The New Moon occurs as the Moon aligns with the Sun in the sign of Virgo.

A time of new beginnings, this New Moon presents an excellent opportunity for us to formulate some goals regarding “all things Virgo.” We’d do well to concentrate on new ways to get our day-to-day life organized. We might think about the keywords for this particular and earthy sign — such things as analytical, intelligent, reserved, critical, helpful, conscientious — and consider ways to enhance, develop, or incorporate these traits into our personalities.

Please note that Virgo is found somewhere in every person’s chart, and these are the areas of our lives most affected now.

The New Moon in Virgo is an excellent time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Virgin. These include:

• building our powers of healthy, constructive discrimination;

Uranus sextile Neptune

Uranus, at 1° Gemini 26′, forms a sextile with Neptune, at 1° Aries 26′ on August 28, 2025. This is the first of five in this set (as with many outer-planet transits, this aspect repeats multiple times over the course of many months).

When Uranus and Neptune connect, we want to shake up the status quo. We can be visionary and inspired.

With Uranus forming a sextile to Neptune, we’re seeking (and finding) illumination. It’s a time of more openness to alternative ways of living, believing, and expression. We’re receptive to different or unusual experiences and ideas.

At the same time, we’re averse to any form of force-feeding spirituality or belief systems, preferring our freedom to follow our intuition. It’s a time to reform and update how we express compassion, care for the underprivileged, pursue our dreams, seek escapes, and do art and creativity. However, we can also be more sensitive to stimulants.

Note that this aspect occurs very infrequently, and when it does, it usually occurs in sets of three or more due to retrograde motion. For example, it occurred in 1966-1968, first forming exactly in September 1966, then again in January 1967, July 1967, April 1968, and May 1968.

Jupiter, at 18° Cancer 22’, forms a trine aspect with the true Moon’s North Node at 18° Pisces 22’ in September 2025. This is a standalone transit. [Note: Often, aspects formed between outer planets and slow-moving points occur three times in a set due to retrograde motion, but this one is a one-time pass.]

What does Uranus Retrograde mean?

During this cycle, our desire to make changes in our lives can turn inward as we get in touch with what may be holding us back from living more spontaneously and authentically.

We may be less overtly rebellious and more inclined to follow the rules while Uranus is retrograde approximately five months a year. As the shift occurs this week, however, Uranian energy is more challenging, and we can experience some tension until we acclimatize to the directional change.

The Moon is Full in Pisces on September 7, 2025, at 2:09 PM EDT. This is a total Lunar Eclipse.

A Full Moon occurs now as the Sun in Virgo forms an opposition to the Moon in Pisces. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time – a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.

There can be inflated feelings, so it’s wise to sit with them for a bit before taking action.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 15 degrees and 23 minutes of Pisces, opposite the Sun at the same degree of Virgo.

Note that this is the third eclipse of an eclipse set occurring along the Virgo-Pisces axis that began in September 2024 and runs until February 2027.

This set began last year, in September 2024, with a Lunar Eclipse in Pisces, continued with a Lunar Eclipse in Virgo in March 2025, and after this Lunar Eclipse in September 2025, a Solar Eclipse in Virgo in two weeks (September 2025), a Lunar Eclipse in Virgo in March 2026, a Lunar Eclipse in Pisces in August 2026, and a Lunar Eclipse in Virgo in February 2027.

As the third in a sign set, this September eclipse can serve as another prompt, nudge, or push to make improvements in Virgo- and Pisces-ruled areas of life in our charts, and feelings of discontent can magnify.

Occurring close to the time of a Superior Conjunction of the Sun and Mercury, an epiphany, illumination of a matter, or a clearing of the air is likely and significant. We are sharp, communicative, and open at this time, and what we say or write now has a strong impact, for better or worse! An idea or plan can come to full bloom.

A Lunar eclipse is an especially potent lunation, in this case a potent Full Moon. Lunar eclipses are relationship-oriented. The “crisis” that these eclipses tend to elicit is a crisis of lack–a time when we suddenly realize a great need or want. The impact of the crisis can act to sever a relationship–it’s possible. But it can also bring two people together with a sudden awareness of a great need for each other.

Although Lunar eclipses are more relationship-oriented than Solar eclipses, they are not always about relationships between two people. They can trigger awareness of need in other areas of our lives, such as our relationship to work, to our health and bodies, and so forth. This is a time when matters come to light–things that have been brewing under the surface.

When a Full Moon occurs, we can suddenly burst forth with proclamations and outpours that seem fresh and new, simply because they are not yet rationalized. A Lunar eclipse is a more potent Full Moon, and its effects tend to last longer. Many astrologers believe that the effects of a Lunar eclipse last approximately six months.

Lunar Eclipses are about relationships and polarities. With the Virgo-Pisces service axis involved, this Lunar Eclipse presses us to look more closely at our needs, lacks, and wants. We are encouraged to find a balance between day-to-day functions and routines, physical health, and the need for order (Virgo) and vision, spiritual health, disorder, and the infinite (Pisces).

Virgo rules the tools and techniques we use to deal with day-to-day life, while Pisces rules the tools we use to deal with our spiritual selves. The key to balance lies in identifying and expressing our spiritual needs while maintaining order in our everyday lives. Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire–we would either be living in chaos or excessive order.

A crisis of sorts (which can be a crisis of consciousness) or sudden awareness of a lack in our lives provides us with a golden opportunity to explore our emotional needs within the context of the house polarity where the eclipse occurs in our natal charts. Relationships may be challenged, broken, or strengthened dramatically shortly after the eclipse. Our discovery is emotionally charged and dramatic. Epiphanies are likely at this time as we become acutely aware of our lack. This understanding can propel us into affirmative action.

However, it’s important to note that we’re temporarily in the dark about a matter at the time of an eclipse, and we’re seeing another area of life as if we’re looking at it through a magnifying glass. It’s distorted—we don’t yet have the full picture. This perspective does help us, ultimately, but it helps to remember that we’re missing something and to defer judgment.

Full Moons and Lunar Eclipses bring issues in our lives to fulfillment. Our emotions are heightened, and there is often some sort of drama involved with the house, sign, and any contacted planets activated by the Full Moon. Look to 15-16 degrees of Virgo and Pisces in your own chart (allow up to about a 5 degree orb when examining the planets and points it aspects).

The areas of life activated by the eclipse may see dramatic turns, after which the path is clear to move forward. Note that whatever happens at this time is nothing truly new. The issues have been brewing inside of us, and emotions have been building. Something comes to light at the time of the Lunar Eclipse, and if we get in touch with our emotions, we can get a better idea of what needs to change, or what needs to go.

This Lunar Eclipse in Pisces is bound to thrust us into a state of heightened awareness. It’s a time to take special note of your dreams, as well as insights or thoughts/emotions that seem to come from “out of the blue.” These could be creatively inspiring.

The range of emotions that Pisces registers is extraordinary, and this could be a time when we feel that enormous range. Around the date of the Full Moon Lunar eclipse, the idealistic side of us comes out full speed ahead. Some of us will be irritable and won’t know exactly why. Others will be moved towards romantic declarations or revelations. Still others will be walking around in a kind of daze, seeing only what they want to see while their common sense is temporarily “eclipsed.”

With Virgo, we are acutely aware of imperfections. We see the flaws around us and perhaps become very tense and irritable, or we work hard at fixing them. To Pisces, however, imperfection is beautiful. At the time of the Lunar eclipse, we may suddenly see this Piscean “light.”

With the health and service axis (Pisces-Virgo) involved, health or work issues may come to the fore. As well, the ability to set boundaries to the amount of service we render can become a major issue. Situations that test our faith, or magnify our fears and doubts, may be part of the picture. Secrets may be revealed, and these can include discovering secrets of our own nature from deep within.

For some, a new “calling” will surface in the coming six months. A new line of work that better matches our inner nature, desire to serve, or emotional make-up may unfold in the months following this eclipse, particularly if the natal Sun, sixth/twelfth houses, or tenth house is activated.

We may discover that we need more rest or attention to our spiritual nature than we are currently allowing ourselves. This is a time when lunar energy emerges and is most powerful. It’s a time when we can tap into our more idealistic, imaginative, and visionary nature. Our hearts open, and issues of trust and faith are in focus. Decisions made now are emotionally-driven.

With the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives. However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as there is a sense of emotions bursting forth into our consciousness. It’s time to express ourselves, and to let things out of our systems. Of course, we might want to exercise some care while doing so, knowing that what is coming out of us is new and not particularly rational as yet.

This is a time to clear up past patterns that have been holding us back from personal fulfillment. We might open ourselves up to possibilities, examining the emotions that push to the surface, but finalizing plans should probably be saved for a later date.

The Moon is New in Virgo on September 21, 2025, at 3:54 PM EDT. This New Moon is a partial Solar Eclipse.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 29 degrees and 5 minutes of Virgo. In the last degree of the sign, there’s an urgency to our new beginnings. This eclipse opposes Saturn and Neptune and harmonizes with Uranus and Pluto. Our responsibilities to others, our emotional health, and our need for downtime can weigh us down. It can be difficult to pull ourselves away, but we have the tools to make the changes we now realize are necessary for growth.

It’s interesting to note that in this Virgo-Pisces set that runs from September 2024 to February 2027, this September Solar Eclipse is the only Solar Eclipse–the rest of the eclipses in this set are Lunar. It’s the fourth eclipse in this sign set.

A Solar Eclipse occurred at 29 degrees Virgo on  September 22nd, 2006, September 22nd, 1987, and September 22nd, 1968.

In the sign of Virgo, work and health matters will be a major focus on a personal level in the months following this eclipse. This lunation is about new beginnings regarding work, attention to details, fitness, health regimes, and daily routines.

Striving for perfection can be a wonderful challenge, as long as we don’t allow ourselves to become overly focused on flaws and feel guilty or perturbed over them. There is a big difference between asserting ourselves from a place of healthy confidence, and asserting ourselves brashly and blindly, which can give us a false sense of confidence or bravery.

It’s important to remember that an eclipse obscures an area of our lives in order to see another area better. As such, our view is skewed and exaggerated. In other words, we’re not seeing the whole picture, and we should therefore proceed with caution.
