The NEW MOON occurs on Thursday, February 27th, 2025, at 7:45 PM EST.
On Thursday evening, a New Moon occurs with the Sun and Moon in alignment.
The New Moon in Pisces marks the beginning of a new cycle. The Aquarius New Moon cycle ends and the Pisces New Moon cycle begins.
The New Moon in Pisces is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Fish. These include taking a leap of faith, accepting imperfections in ourselves and in others as a different kind of “perfection,” starting a project that requires imagination and visualization skills, consciously putting time aside for peaceful and rejuvenating activities, and sharing a dream with another.
With this potent Pisces energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives.
The New Moon Chart:
With such a strong showing of bodies in the sign of Pisces, we can be particularly focused, determined, and concentrated. Even with the sign’s range, we should watch for being too narrow in our focus.
The major bodies are all direct, contributing to a feeling of moving forward. Still, Venus is close to stationing retrograde, and it’s best not to push ahead prematurely. This New Moon is square to Jupiter, and we should avoid overshooting and excess.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 9 degrees and 41 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 6 to 14 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.
Alternate chart with additional bodies (Chiron, asteroids, Eris, etc.):
NEXT WEEK:
The FIRST QUARTER MOON will occur on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, at 11:31 AM EST.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Pisces; Mercury is in Pisces; Venus is in Aries; Mars is in Cancer.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side can include self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
While we may not always verbalize our feelings and impressions during this cycle, they’re strong and motivating. We prefer to believe and trust, giving things/people the benefit of the doubt until they prove us wrong. We might often tune out problems or conflicts rather than tackle them head on, hoping they will iron themselves out. Prosperity flows when we’re connecting with our heart, being kind, and helping others. The need to withdraw or retreat to restore our energy is strong from time to time.
Mercury is in Pisces from February 14-March 3 [and later, March 29-April 16]. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style.
We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
It’s not always easy to verbalize our impressions during this cycle. We don’t enjoy pinning down, labeling, or strictly defining things. We recognize that life isn’t always logical, and we prefer not to think in black and white terms. We’re sensitive and impressionable, which means we can take in more than usual, and it can sometimes overwhelm us. Pisces needs periodic time alone or within to regenerate and detox.
Venus is in Aries from February 4-March 27 [and later, April 30-June 6]. With Venus in Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past–it’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now.
Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to the sign. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
While Venus is in Aries, we gravitate to Aries-like activities, pleasures, pastimes, and objects of interest. Our tastes can veer toward action, new enterprise, conquests, courageous or daring acts, and so forth. We can be somewhat impulsive with our money or entertainment choices.
Our interests can be insistent and strong, but possibly short-lived. It’s not the best time for holding onto money. We might pour our resources too quickly into new ventures or projects but tire of these things just as rapidly.
Mars is in Cancer from January 6-April 18. [While retrograde Mars returned to Cancer on January 6th, Mars turned direct on February 23rd and continues its transit of Cancer until April 18th.] We pursue our interests ardently, but we avoid a direct approach to going after we want while Mars transits Cancer. As well, our goals and plans are subject to mood swings and vacillations. We are defensive rather than overtly aggressive. Much of what we do depends on our current mood of the moment.
We’re also very intuitive and can be moved to take action to bring peace or comfort and safety to our lives during this period. We go to bat for our loved ones. In fact, we’re fiercely protective. It’s a powerful period for putting ego matters aside so that we can push our plans forward. Inner satisfaction and love are generally more important to us than outer achievements at this time. Personal and domestic goals are our priority during this phase.
Jupiter is in Gemini.
Jupiter began its transit of Gemini on May 24th, 2024, and continues its transit of the sign until June 9th, 2025. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Gemini.
Saturn transits Pisces from March 7th, 2023 until May 24th, 2025, and Sep 1st, 2025, to Feb 13th, 2026. Read about Saturn’s transit of Pisces. Saturn will enter Aries on May 24th, 2025.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Pluto is in Aquarius. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Note that Pluto finally completed its journey through Capricorn on November 19th, 2024, from which time Pluto stays in Aquarius for many years to come.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Aries from February 4 to March 27. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now.
Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
This week: Venus doesn’t form any major aspects with the major bodies this week. It turns retrograde on March 1st.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Venus contra-parallel Mercury February 19-20. We are voicing our feelings now, but we should be careful not to over-intellectualize our affections. We tend to analyze our feelings and relationships. Interactions bring up questions.
Venus Rx semi-square Uranus March 10-11. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
Venus Rx conjunct Mercury March 11. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, February 24th, from 10:29 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, Tuesday, February 25th, 12:40 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, February 26th, from 5:05 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Thursday, February 27th, at 3:47 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, March 1st, from 3:06 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aries at 4:52 AM EST.
February 2025:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the 27th, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waxing after the New Moon on the 27th, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, but also with some exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from approximately 3:45 AM to 10:25 PM EST on Monday, February 24th, while the Moon is in Capricorn. Another window occurs from Friday, February 28th, at approximately 2:45 PM EST, until Saturday, March 1st, at approximately 3:00 AM EST, while the Moon is in Pisces. Still, this second period may be too close to the New Moon (and the Venus station) for major new beginnings.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury trine Mars. Enthusiasm and energetic communications are likely now. We are productive and take “busy-ness” in stride. We are alert and aware, and can easily turn ideas into workable projects. Our communications are refreshingly direct and to the point, although not especially sympathetic. Our minds are sharp and quick.
Sun semi-square Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different.
Mercury semi-square Pluto. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress, trouble, or pressure.
Mercury conjunct Saturn. Our ability to concentrate and focus is enhanced now. There could be an increased need for solitude in order to think or work. Travel for business purposes is possible. Thinking in realistic and practical terms, and the need for tangible results for our efforts, is indicated. We might receive serious news or practical advice, or engage in an important conversation. This can mark the start of a new project that involves communications, such as writing, speaking, reporting, etc.
Mercury sextile Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue”. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding.
Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

FEBRUARY 23
Mars stations and turns direct today after retrograde motion since December 6th, 2024. This evening, the fiery planet is stationary as it begins direct motion. Mars energy hangs heavy in the air today (and this week) as Mars changes direction. Slowly but surely, over the coming weeks, we will likely rebuild our enthusiasm. Projects that have stalled move forward, and we begin to feel more confident and assertive. We may change our minds about recent decisions or projects as priorities become more explicit. Ideally, we’ve learned more about our desires, and motivation levels increase. As the shift occurs today, however, it’s best to wait and see. Before Mars turns direct today, Mercury forms a trine to Mars, stirring a strong desire to do something with our ideas, learn, teach, or discuss. We are exceptionally alert and aware, and there is excitement or energy in our conversations. We also feel more passionately about our interests and discoveries. Still, Mercury’s semi-square with Pluto can find us mildly skeptical later today. This influence can excite some tension or mental distress and worry. We tend to obsess over an issue that we can’t control.
FEBRUARY 24
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Capricorn, and we are cautious, seeking more order and structure in our lives. We make sensible decisions. Flexibility is not a strong point, but we can be quite single-minded, determined, and thorough with this Moon. Our careers, long-term plans, or objectives are in focus. We’re more aware of our image or standing, as well as of our obligations. With Pluto and Pallas in alignment today, it can be a strong time for strategy and insight. We are wise and willing to invest our energy in solving problems. Our natural talents, as well as acquired resources, are in the spotlight. This is a good time for healing and regenerative activities, particularly regarding the mind/thinking. However, we should watch for attempts to manipulate others to adopt or accept our plans.
The Moon is void Monday, February 24th, from 10:29 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, Tuesday, February 25th, 12:40 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 25
The meeting of Mercury and Saturn today inclines us to think and communicate about serious matters, responsibilities, obligations to others, and worries or grievances. We may be addressing a problem once and for all. Our ability to concentrate is enhanced now, possibly because circumstances call for it. There could be an increased need for solitude to think or solve problems. This is a time for seeing things realistically or for their practical value, and we seek tangible results. We might make a verbal or written commitment now, or we could experience a form of a reality check. The Moon leaves the sign of Capricorn very early today, at 12:40 AM EST, when it enters Aquarius. This Aquarius Moon stirs our progressive, inventive, and innovative side. We can feel a deeper kinship with others through believing in a cause.
The Moon continues its void period until it enters Aquarius today at 12:40 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 26
The Moon spends the day in Aquarius, stirring our progressive or inventive side and inspiring our need for emotional freedom. The Aquarius Moon is earnest, friendly, and principled. Our interest in our social life, new ideas, and progressive change increases. The Moon’s square to Uranus this afternoon may stir up stubbornness or rebellion. The Aquarius Moon inspires our need for emotional freedom, and as the day advances, we approach a Mercury-Uranus sextile that promotes alternative approaches, new ideas, and scientific thinking. Intuition is strong, and insights are quick and exciting.
The Moon is void from 5:05 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Thursday, February 27th, at 3:47 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 27
This morning’s Mercury-Uranus sextile opens our minds and willingness to entertain new methods and ideas. We’re just detached enough from a matter that we can gain perspective, and our ideas, conversations, and musings are unique, forward-looking, and ahead of the time. Original, creative ideas and theories come naturally. We can take advantage of this by solving problems in new, innovative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding, and ideas to do so abound.
A New Moon occurs today at 7:44 PM EST in the sign of Pisces, and it’s a time for a new beginning or fresh start. We’re gathering the inspiration to take a leap of faith. With this potent Pisces energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives in the weeks ahead. We’re motivated to carve out time for peaceful and rejuvenating activities or to entertain a dream and perhaps share it with someone special. The major bodies are all direct, contributing to a feeling of moving forward. Still, Venus is close to stationing retrograde, and it’s best not to push ahead prematurely. This New Moon is square to Jupiter, and we should avoid overshooting and excess.
The Moon is void until it enters Pisces today at 3:47 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 28
Today’s Mercury-Neptune parallel stirs daydreaming, visualization, and prophecy. We gravitate intuitively to the information we need, and we can come up with unusual but helpful theories. Subjective impressions can be strong. It’s possible to heal and inspire through our words. Fortunately, we more easily access imagination and intuition. The Moon spends the day in Pisces, creating a gentle and kind atmosphere. Our focus is on our inner worlds, empathy, spirituality, and downtime. The Pisces Moon, at its best, is a source of wisdom but can also be evasive when faced with challenges.
With the Sun semi-sextile Venus tonight, we may feel that our quest for pleasure, affection, love, or comfort is at odds with what we think we should be doing, which can lead to mild tension or feelings of guilt and perhaps some indecision. Seeking to fulfill both of these needs without doing so at the expense of the other should be the goal.
MARCH 1
The Moon is void from 3:06 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aries at 4:52 AM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
Mars in Cancer Defensive, aren’t we? With this new cycle getting underway, protecting and preserving you and yours takes on a higher than usual priority. A sensitivity to the needs and wants of others and an appreciation for their frailties (as well as your own) makes you more cautious and conservative … you pick your battles with care.
Jupiter in Gemini Facilitating the transfer of ideas and information takes on a special priority for you now. Writing, studying, and communicating play a bigger role in your life as a result. The belief that well-informed people will make the right decisions becomes an article of faith. Just remember: sometimes people know the right thing to do and STILL do something different!
Saturn in Pisces Making peace with the past, coming to terms with karmic debts: these are some of the issues that confront you as a new phase begins in your life. Failure to face these things can cause setbacks and put obstacles in your path. Learn to look beyond the narrowly personal and selfish or you’ll get in over your head.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
