A New Moon occurred on Saturday, July 26th, 2014, at 6:42 PM EDT.

On Saturday evening, a New Moon occurred, marking the beginning of a new cycle. The Cancer New Moon cycle ends and the Leo New Moon cycle begins. The New Moon in Leo is an excellent time for formulating some goals regarding "all things Leo". Concentrate on new ways to enhance your romantic life, creative endeavors and hobbies, and relationship with children. Think about the keywords for this self-expressive fire sign -- such things as proud, magnanimous, generous, hospitable, caring, warm, authoritative, active, and open -- and consider ways to incorporate these traits into your personality. With this potent Leo energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. It's time to make some plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks' time after the Full Moon occurs. Concentrate on new ways to enhance romance and creativity, and to build up your feelings of confidence and pride.

The New Moon aligned with Jupiter, occurring only two days after the Sun aligns with Jupiter in early Leo, and this encourages us to focus our energies on growing, improving, and expanding. A New Moon on its own brings rather impulsive energy, but with this New Moon also square Mars, the tendency is heightened. We should be especially careful of making big statements or promises without first thinking of our abilities and the potential consequences.

This phase of the Moon occurred at 3 degrees and 52 minutes of Leo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 8 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

A First Quarter Moon will occur on Sunday, August 3rd, 2014, at 8:50 PM EDT.

On Sunday evening (August 3rd), a First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Leo forms a square with the Scorpio Moon. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon on July 26th is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.

This phase of the Moon will occur at 11 degrees and 36 minutes of Scorpio square the Sun at 11 degrees and 36 minutes of Leo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 11 to 15 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Leo; Mercury is in Cancer until the 31st, when it enters Leo; Venus is in Cancer; Mars is in Scorpio.

The Sun is in Leo from July 22-August 23. In Leo, the Sun is proud, outgoing, and playful. The Leo Sun is intensely individual—not content with simply being just one of the team. It's time to shine, add a touch of color and drama to our lives, and perform. Like the flowers and fruit of the season--blossoming and ripened--this is a time when we want to enjoy ourselves and express ourselves. We are more generous and grand in our gestures and attitudes. On the shadow side, we can also be self-centered and vain.

Mercury is in Cancer from July 13-31. When Mercury is in Cancer, we move from the desire for quantity to the need for quality in terms of the information we are attracted to. We think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more instinctive level now. We have less interest in what is universal, and more interest in what affects us personally and what affects the people around us. Our thoughts are colored by our emotions, so it is more challenging to be objective.

Mercury is in Leo from July 31-August 15. When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal--and the more grand a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do under Mercury in Leo.

Venus is in Cancer July 18-August 12. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure.

Mars is in Scorpio from July 25-September 13. In Scorpio, Mars is driven and focused on getting what it wants. We are persevering, single-minded, and strong. The desire to experience our emotional depths, as well as the urge to penetrate the surface of life in order to explore deeper levels of existence, is powerful. We are fascinated with what others tend to repress, and are drawn to experiencing and understanding these things. We are less inclined to avoid important issues now. In some ways, we are attracted to crisis, as we see crisis as transformative and emotionally exciting. We would rather feel extreme emotions than nothing at all, as mediocrity or the "middle road" is felt to be unsatisfying.

Saturn entered Scorpio on October 5, 2012 and will transit the sign until 2015. Read about Saturn's transit through Scorpio here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Cancer from July 18-August 12. We treat lovers with sympathy and tenderness, providing the emotional nurturing that they need. We tend to "play it safe" when it comes to relationships. Love and devotion is most important to us, and provides us with a sense of inner security. We seek a deep love in which we can merge souls and personalities with our lover. We are quite devoted to our partners, and we seek such devotion in return. However, we could also become possessive, manipulative, and stifling. Familiarity is more important to us now. Our fear of rejection is overdeveloped, and we offer our hearts cautiously as a result. We pay more attention to our lovers' feelings than their words. We feel threatened if a lover acts in an impersonal, overly independent, or detached manner. Safe and solid relationships are more appealing. Romantic and emotional hurts are very hard to forget.

This week: Venus opposes Pluto on Sunday and Monday, and there can be intense feelings, some emotional distress, and struggles against, or for, control. Feelings of being used can emerge, possessiveness can be a problem, and fears of betrayal or attachment can drive our behavior in our relationships. On Thursday, Venus squares Uranus - another challenging influence that brings up the issue of dependence. Circumstances experienced now can seem to pit freedom versus intimacy or closeness. We may be acting on whims or we might experience sudden, unusual attractions, likely because of our fears of loss of independence. Feelings steady Friday morning, when Venus trines Saturn and then Chiron. However, other aspects not involving Venus active on Friday and Saturday can stimulate rebelliousness and arguments.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Cancer July 18-August 12. Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time - these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.
Venus opposition Pluto July 27-28. This is a period of intense feelings, as well as possible emotional distress and tension caused by romantic troubles or social manipulation. An experience of being used or abused physically, emotionally or sexually may cause us suffering or disappointment. Sexually driven emotions are likely now. Fears of betrayal may get the best of us.
Venus square Uranus July 31. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting, but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last--but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.
Venus trine Saturn July 31-August 1. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism and maturity in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor, and have much potential to last.
Venus trine Chiron August 1. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune August 5. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, July 27th, from 8:38 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Virgo the next day, July 28th, at 11:37 PM EDT.

VOC Moon on Thursday, July 31st, from 10:48 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Libra at 12:10 PM EDT.

VOC Moon on Friday, August 1st, from 10:58 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Scorpio the next day, Saturday, August 2nd, at 10:57 PM EDT.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

MercurySesquiquadrateNeptune Mercury sesquiquadrate Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It's not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.

VenusoppositionPluto Venus opposition Pluto. An intense emotional or sexual attraction, a very revealing, intimate encounter, or a powerful desire to be close to and share our deepest feelings with someone is very likely now. Emotions and issues in a close relationship that have been brewing beneath the surface for quite awhile come to the surface at this time, possibly in a very disruptive way. All of our relationships intensify and we need to be aware of a tendency to act in a rather compulsive, demanding way towards others. This is an "all or nothing" energy. Manipulative behavior, fear of betrayal, and power struggles are possible.

Chiron Mars sesquiquadrature Chiron. We can be easily offended under the influence of this transit. Touchiness. Difficulties expressing our anger or desires in a direct manner.

Sun quincunx Neptune. It can be difficult to concentrate and to formulate clear goals just now. Misconceptions abound. Fear of being ineffective can undermine our confidence when it comes to making clear or definite decisions, and for doing new things.

VenussquareUranus Venus square Uranus. Values and tastes may clash, and group activities may suffer as a result. Impulsive attractions to both people and material goods can lead us astray. Avoid impulse buys at this time. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness is probable in romantic relationships. We may not see eye to eye, and we might be taken off guard by unexpected events. This is not a favorable aspect for beauty treatments because they could have unexpected results. We may struggle with freedom versus intimacy issues at this time. Hold off on decision-making with regards to finances.

Venustrine Venus trine Saturn. Affections stabilize and mature. Small advances can be made in business and in partnerships. Support from older people or authority figures may come by way of solid advice or more tangible help. Renewed ties to old friends are possible, or a new sense of responsibility in existing friendships.

Venustrine Venus trine Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses, and are less inclined to see fault, or to concern ourselves with fault. It's a strong time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another.

MercurysesquiquadrateChiron Mercury sesquiquadrate Chiron. Communications may be careless, hurtful or perceived as hurtful under this influence. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. There may be impatience with rules, worry or guilty feelings, and conflicting viewpoints now.

MarsSquareJupiter Mars square Jupiter. Although we may have much enthusiasm for life and for new projects, over-confidence and over-estimation of what we can do is likely. We can be impatient if results of our efforts don't materialize right away, and we can also be too focused on what we think should be and lose sight of what is possible. We are ready and willing to fight for our beliefs. We may be excitable and competitive. Jumping ahead without considering the consequences is the inclination, but can be costly. This energy is also associated with lawsuits or struggles involving differences in personal philosophies and principles. A feeling of urgency may make us come on stronger than we intend. The inclination towards taking risks is strong, and patience is short.

MercuryconjunctJupiter Mercury conjunct Jupiter. We can visualize in broader terms and see the "big picture" now. Travel is favored, all things equal. We are optimistic, which can help us attract positive circumstances. This is a good time to submit ideas, applications, and so forth, all things equal. This is a time of thinking on a grand scale and long-range planning. Details and mundane affairs do not interest us as much as the big picture does. We are prone to exaggerating the facts due to enthusiasm. Expressing ourselves verbally comes easily, and public relations and negotiations run especially smoothly. This is a time for making long-range plans, seeing the big picture, and thinking about what is really important to us in the long run.

Mercury Mercury square Mars. Impatience, hastiness, and disagreements characterize this transit. This is an unfavorable time for any kind of meeting, starting a new project, and business proposals. We can be irritable and say all the wrong things. We may be competing for the floor when it comes to expressing our ideas, thoughts, and opinions, making it difficult to engage in healthy dialogue. Mental agitation could dominate. We may stir up controversy with what we say, or how we say it.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

July 27
The Moon is in Leo all day, and while spirits can run high carrying forward the energy of yesterday's New Moon, perceptions can be a little off this evening with Mercury in dynamic aspect to Neptune. We may be daydreaming or avoiding the facts under this influence, making it a less than ideal time to learn the truth, present an idea, or formalize something important to us. Otherwise, the day is good for more freeform thinking and creating, as well as light, playful interactions with others as long as people aren't taking things too seriously.

A void of course Moon occurs from 8:38 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Virgo tomorrow, July 28th, at 11:37 PM EDT.

July 28
Early into the day, Venus opposes Pluto, and a relationship matter can come to a head. There may be intense feelings, some emotional distress, and struggles against, or for, control. Feelings of being used can emerge, possessiveness can be a problem, and fears of betrayal or attachment might drive our behavior. Problem areas that have been buried or operating just under the surface of things can now emerge, disrupting the flow. The Moon is in Leo most of the day, until 11:37 PM EDT, and is void the whole time. It can be a good time for having fun and enjoying ourselves, but not a good time for important new endeavors. The Moon enters Virgo at 11:37 PM, and we begin to feel a drive to put our affairs into order.

The Moon ends its void period at 11:37 PM EDT, when it enters Virgo.

July 29
The Moon is in Virgo all day, and we crave more organization. However, with Mars sesquiquadrate Chiron this evening and the Sun and Neptune approaching a quincunx, we may have a hard time focusing long enough to really tackle a task. There can be some difficulties expressing anger or desires directly, and some touchiness is possible. Fear of being ineffective can undermine our confidence when it comes to doing new things and making clear or definite decisions. We might feel that others seem to be draining our energy, especially if it's unclear what they want from us.

July 30
Once past the indecisive energy with us early into the day with the Sun quincunx Neptune, today's Virgo Moon and an easy aspect to Saturn brings a greater chance of productivity. Communications, organizing, and producing are in the forefront. Keeping busy and making headway satisfies us more than usual, as we want to see tangible results for our efforts. Being useful satisfies a deep need.

July 31
Mercury enters Leo today, where it will transit until August 15th. With Mercury in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal, and the grander the goal the better! The details may not be quite as important to us now. We are more expressive, even theatrical, and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do. The Moon continues its transit of precise Virgo until 12:10 PM EDT, when it enters Libra. Venus and Uranus approach a square, and circumstances experienced now can seem to pit freedom versus intimacy or closeness. We may be acting on whims or we might experience sudden, unusual attractions, likely because of our fears of loss of independence.

A void of course Moon occurs from 10:48 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Libra at 12:10 PM EDT.

August 1

A void of course Moon occurs from 10:58 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Scorpio tomorrow, Saturday, August 2nd, at 10:57 PM EDT.

August 2

The Moon ends its void period at 10:57 PM EDT, when the Moon enters Scorpio.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Leo

MoonLeoThe Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.

The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

When the Moon is in Virgo

MoonVirgoWe instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. Drawing on an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.

When the Moon is in Libra

MoonLibraCreating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.

The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.

When the Moon is in Scorpio

MoonScorpioIntensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.

The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Leo "This I do for me" is your motto at a time like this. This is your time to shine, like a swirl of starstuff that has finally reached critical mass and suddenly starts to give off more light than it receives. Issues of pride, mastery, and appreciation become more and more central to your lifestream as this cycle progresses, as does a very important lesson: it's not what you do so much as how you do it, not who you are so much as how you make others feel about themselves. If it doesn't come from the heart, it shouldn't matter now.

Mercury in Cancer Gut-level is the way you think, speak, and perceive in the cycle you have just begun. You aren't interested in the superficial; instead, you want to get right to the root of things. You don't care about the universal, only about how things impact you and yours. Intellect and emotion mix to the point of inseparability.

Mercury in Leo The hallmark of the cycle you have just begun is thinking, learning and communicating with style. Intellectual creativity is highlighted, and your social connections have a certain flair of drama to them. Winning the admiration of others for the things you say or write (and the way you do it) takes on more importance in your life.

Venus in Cancer Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time - these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.

Mars in Scorpio Tear it down and build it up again, reach in and pluck out the offending element: that's what the new cycle you have entered is like. Power becomes a compelling idea, perhaps even an aphrodisiac - and you've got a stronger than usual supply of it now. Use it, don't abuse it - or you might find that it's a two-edged sword!

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Scorpio This new cycle signals a need to recognize that there are powers beyond your control, that things are not what they seem on the surface. Trying to stay in control and on top only sets you up for a fall. There is a need for the resources of others. Failure to recognize this and deal with it can stop you in your tracks.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
