A New Moon occurs on Monday, August 25th, 2014, at 10:13 AM EDT.

On Monday morning, a New Moon occurs in the sign of Virgo. A time of new beginnings, this New Moon presents an excellent opportunity for us to formulate some goals regarding "all things Virgo". Concentrate on new ways to get your day-to-day life organized. Think about the keywords for this particular and earthy sign -- such things as analytical, intelligent, reserved, critical, helpful, conscientious -- and consider ways to incorporate these traits into your personality. The New Moon in Virgo is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Virgin. These include building our powers of healthy, constructive discrimination; rolling up our sleeves and getting down to some serious work; beginning a new project that requires attention to details; making lists, actively ticking off completed activities, and taking pride in our "little" accomplishments; starting a health regime, researching nutrition and vitamins, and paying attention to our diet; setting up specific routines that will help us manage our lives in constructive and mindful ways; and handling the "little" details of our day-to-day life in an organized, step-by-step fashion so that we can free our minds of clutter.

With this potent Virgo energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 2 degrees and 18 minutes of Virgo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 28 to 30 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) and 0 to 6 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

The Sun is in Virgo; Mercury is in Virgo; Venus is in Leo; Mars is in Scorpio.

The Sun is in Virgo from August 23-September 22. Our focus shifts to the pieces of the puzzle--the little details of our lives. It is now time to take care of practical concerns. Tending to the details of everyday life may not sound like loads of fun, but it can certainly free us from unnecessary stress that results from "collecting" odds and ends of unfinished business. This is an ideal time to get organized, to do detail work, and to improve communications on the job.

Mercury is in Virgo from August 15-September 2. When Mercury is in Virgo, precision in speech, thought, and process is now important to us. This is a time when we analyze and decide what is useful and what we deem to be impractical. Mercury feels right at home in Virgo, one of the signs that it rules. Dealing with details is natural and easy now. We need to be careful that we don't lose perspective if we find ourselves lost in details. We should also be aware of the possibility of expressing ourselves in a too factual manner, so much so that we come across as dry, critical, or unimaginative.

Venus is in Leo August 12-September 5. Love is magnificent and grand. We take pride in love, and we are generous with our money as well. This is a warmhearted, teasing, expressive, proud, and extravagant placement for Venus. Love is a bit of a game--a game that is perpetual, as Venus in Leo is forever stuck in the romance stage of a relationship. We feed on attention, acknowledgement, validation, and adoration. Venus in Leo loves to be adored, pampered, and admired. Pride and passion are hallmarks of this cycle. We have a strong ego investment in our love lives during this period. The negative expression of this placement is overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.

Mars is in Scorpio from July 25-September 13. In Scorpio, Mars is driven and focused on getting what it wants. We are persevering, single-minded, and strong. The desire to experience our emotional depths, as well as the urge to penetrate the surface of life in order to explore deeper levels of existence, is powerful. We are fascinated with what others tend to repress, and are drawn to experiencing and understanding these things. We are less inclined to avoid important issues now. In some ways, we are attracted to crisis, as we see crisis as transformative and emotionally exciting. We would rather feel extreme emotions than nothing at all, as mediocrity or the "middle road" is felt to be unsatisfying.

Saturn entered Scorpio on October 5, 2012 and will transit the sign until 2015. Read about Saturn's transit through Scorpio here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus
is in Leo from August 12-September 5. Negative expressions of this placement are overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.

This week: Venus trines Uranus and quincunxes Chrion on Sunday and early Monday, and while we may be holding ourselves back, we are ready to explore and experiment in love and social situations. Venus squares Saturn on Tuesday, however, and we can withdraw when it comes to our feelings, possibly due to fear of rejection or to stress. Negative expectations are likely now. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. The following day, Wednesday, Venus squares Mars and there can be tension due to competitiveness in our relationships as well as bad timing and contrariness. There can be frustration with brusqueness or crudeness.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Leo August 12-September 5. Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired - needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.
Venus trine Uranus August 24-25. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.
Venus quincunx Chiron August 24-25. There may be vague feelings of discontent in relationships; or a choice that needs to be made regarding personal relationships, money, or possessions. Insecurity involving others might make it awkward for us to express our affections naturally or flowingly.
Venus square Saturn August 26. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship--new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus square Mars August 26-27. Passions run high under this influence. Sexual tensions and competitiveness are possible, and there can be conflicts that arise from distinct differences between romantic and sexual needs. There is an air of competitiveness under this influence, which need not be difficult. It can be stimulating, creative, passionate, and invigorating.
Venus sesquiquadrature Pluto September 2. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, August 24th, from 4:26 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Virgo the next day, Monday, August 25th, at 5:33 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Tuesday, August 26th, from 10:29 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mercury), until the Moon enters Libra the next day, Wednesday, August 27th, at 5:54 PM EDT.

VOC Moon on Friday, August 29th, from 12:00 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Scorpio the next day, Saturday, August 30th, at 4:53 AM EDT.

Void of Course Moon Table for August 2014:

Timing with the Moon - Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives

The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on August 25th - a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waxing this week after the New Moon on August 25th - a period that is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions.

According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from approximately 2:30 AM EDT until noon on Friday, August 29th, while the Moon is in Libra. This is not ideal, as the Sun opposes Neptune during this window.

This Week's Calendar

This Week's Aspects

SunSesquiquadrateUranus Sun sesquiquadrate Uranus. During this transit, we feel the need for action, but if we don't know where we're headed, we might take the wrong turn. Unexpected changes in plans or events can test our patience, and we might feel a bit out of control. However, they could stimulate us to try new approaches and they certainly act to cut boredom. This transit could offer us the drive to do something new, but avoid making hasty major decisions for the time being.

MercuryoppositionChiron Mercury opposition Chiron. Misunderstandings in communications that occur now stem from taking things too personally. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. Doubting our ability to make a clear cut decision comes from a feeling that opposing viewpoints hold the same weight, and thus an inability to choose sides. There can be a sense of shooting ourselves in the foot when we present our ideas or opinions, and a feeling of misrepresenting ourselves when we communicate can figure strongly now.

MercuryQuincunxUranus Mercury quincunx Uranus. It is difficult to get a point across without rubbing people the wrong way or misrepresenting ourselves. Uncertainty reigns today. Avoid making hasty decisions that you will later regret. Impulsiveness, disorganization, unreceptive to practical advice and/or your ideas are not well-received.

MercurySextileMars Mercury sextile Mars. Mental alertness, enthusiasm, and energetic communications figure now. Quick decisions can be made. We are productive and take "busy-ness" in stride. We are alert and aware, and can easily turn ideas into workable projects.

VenusChiron Venus quincunx Chiron. There may be vague feelings of discontent in relationships; or a choice that needs to be made regarding personal relationships, money, or possessions. Insecurity involving others might make it awkward for us to express our affections naturally or flowingly.

VenustrineUranus Venus trine Uranus. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements as well as financial undertakings. We are ready to experiment, but not ready to commit. Creative inspiration can be had. We have an offbeat, pleasant attitude and people are more willing to socialize. A good time for financial undertakings involving electronics, technology, the internet, metaphysics, and the arts, as well as group activities.

MercurysextileSaturn Mercury sextile Saturn. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now will have tangible results in the future.

MarsconjunctSaturn Mars conjunct Saturn. Feelings of being blocked are possible, as enthusiasm meets with realism. Work takes on definite shape, and we can see results from our efforts. This gives us a sense of responsibility and a feeling of directedness and purposefulness. This is a good time to temper our energy and to exercise better judgment. It's also a strong period for getting and feeling organized. Seniority is favored now. Traditional methods work, and thoroughness brings rewards. Pushing ahead, however, can be costly or could result in frustration, as "slow and steady" is the only way to go now.

VenusSquareSaturn Venus square Saturn. Gaining what we want is challenging under this influence, due to negative attitudes and the tendency to need more than what is possible. Difficulties socializing with others stem from an increased sensitivity to rejection as well as stiffness with the affections. Emotional distance in relationships. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be "money pits" as time passes.

squareMars Venus square Mars. Passions run high under this influence. Sexual tensions and competitiveness are possible, and there can be conflicts that arise from differences between romantic and sexual needs. Be wary of making impulse purchases. There is an air of competitiveness under this influence, which need not be difficult. It can be stimulating, creative, and invigorating.

SunOppositionNeptune Sun opposition Neptune. It's easy to get lost in fantasy at this time, as we feel somewhat directionless and less able to face everyday realities. Willpower is low. Not a good time for any financial undertaking or formal agreement.

Mercury  Mercury semi-square Jupiter. We experience information overload, and we neglect to consider details. People tend to exaggerate today. Monotonous mental tasks are harder to take under this influence. Our minds are restless.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

AUGUST 24
The Moon is in Leo all day. Early today, the Sun in dynamic aspect to Uranus can stimulate tension if we feel the urge to take action, but don't necessarily know where we're headed. Unexpected changes can prompt new approaches. Mercury opposing Chiron and quincunx Uranus later morning can point to difficulties communicating clearly, and misunderstandings as a result. Hypersensitivity can be an issue now. We can take words communicated too personally. There can be a sense of shooting ourselves in the foot when we present our ideas or opinions, and a feeling of misrepresenting ourselves when we communicate can be an issue now. There can be difficulties coming to definite decisions and conclusions. With the Moon Balsamic, it's better not to push forward with new initiatives anyhow, as interests and focus can shift considerably after the New Moon tomorrow morning.

A void of course Moon occurs from 4:26 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Virgo tomorrow, Monday, August 25th, at 5:33 AM EDT.

AUGUST 25
The Moon is in Leo until 5:33 AM EDT, when it enters Virgo. It reaches New at 10:13 AM. A time of new beginnings, this New Moon presents an excellent opportunity for us to formulate some goals regarding "all things Virgo". We can work on finding new or improved ways to get our day-to-day lives better organized. The New Moon in Virgo is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Virgin. These include building our powers of healthy, constructive discrimination; rolling up our sleeves and getting down to some serious work; beginning a new project that requires attention to details; setting up specific routines that will help us manage our lives in constructive and mindful ways; and handling the "little" details of our day-to-day life in an organized, step-by-step fashion so that we can free our minds of clutter. With this potent Virgo energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. Early morning, Mercury sextiles Mars and Saturn, and Venus trines Uranus. We are alert, practical of mind, and busy. Socially, while we can hold some of ourselves back, we have a generally pleasant, offbeat attitude to others. Mars aligns with Saturn in the sign of Scorpio this afternoon. There can be a reality check of sorts now, as our enthusiasm is now tempered by realism. However, a stronger sense of responsibility, purpose, and direction can come to us now. We might exercise better judgment as a result of circumstances happening now. Traditional methods work better than less conventional ones right now, and thoroughness brings rewards. Pushing ahead, however, can be costly or could result in frustration, as "slow and steady" is the only way to go now.

The Moon ends its void period at 5:33 AM EDT, when the Moon enters Virgo.

AUGUST 26
The Moon is in practical Virgo all day. Much of the day, there is a rather retiring and inhibited energy with us. Venus squares Saturn, and gaining what we want is challenging, likely because of negative attitudes or the tendency to need more than what is possible. We could be feeling deprived, rejected, left out, or let down. Difficulties socializing with others stem from an increased sensitivity to rejection as well as stiffness with the affections. We are less generous with our money as well, and we could be feeling a pinch. Emotional distance in relationships can be experienced now. Emotions improve considerably this evening, or we find more channels for expressing ourselves.

A void of course Moon occurs from 10:29 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mercury), until the Moon enters Libra tomorrow, Wednesday, August 27th, at 5:54 PM EDT.

AUGUST 27
With Venus in Leo square Mars in Scorpio today, there can be difficulty coming to a place of compromise in our relationships, and there can be quite a bit of drama stirred. Competitiveness is possible, and there may be insensitivity to one another's feelings as we attempt to fulfill our own desires and satisfy our own needs. Be wary of making impulse purchases. Desires come on quickly and with a lot of force, but may not last. The Moon is in particular Virgo until 5:54 PM EDT, when it enters Libra.

The Moon ends its void period at 5:54 PM EDT, when the Moon enters Libra.

AUGUST 28
With the Moon in charming Libra all day, we find the most emotional satisfaction when our interactions and environment are felt to be balanced and harmonious. Pleasing others is a theme now, making it a good time for negotiations and peace-making. Conflicts tend to be avoided or averted now, or resolved in a diplomatic and fair way. However, this afternoon, the Moon's square to Pluto can point to manipulative behavior. We are especially aware of the points of view of others and the opposite side of the coin today, which can lead to indecision.

AUGUST 29
The Moon is in Libra all day. The Sun opposes Neptune this morning, and we can experience an energy drain of sorts as we are challenged to align our recent actions and plans with our spiritual or idealistic values. It's easy to get lost in fantasy at this time, as we can feel somewhat directionless and less able to face everyday realities. Willpower may be low. This afternoon, Mercury semi-squares Jupiter, skewing our perceptions further. Monotonous mental tasks are harder to take, and we can exaggerate in order to attach more meaning to our lives. Our minds can be restless, and we may miss or turn a blind eye to important details.

A void of course Moon occurs from 12:00 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Scorpio tomorrow, Saturday, August 30th, at 4:53 AM EDT.

AUGUST 30
The Moon continues its transit of Libra until 4:53 AM EDT, when it enters Scorpio. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us with a Scorpio Moon. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn't fair. Scorpio's energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more difficult possible expressions of Scorpio. The Moon harmonizes with Neptune and the Sun this afternoon and evening, and we are more cooperative and sensitive to one another. We might naturally attract support from others and/or positive experiences that contribute to our success. This is a good time to heal or to clear our minds.

The Moon ends its void period at 4:53 AM EDT, when the Moon enters Scorpio.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Leo

MoonLeoThe Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.

The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

When the Moon is in Virgo

MoonVirgoWe instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.

When the Moon is in Libra

MoonLibraCreating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.

The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.

When the Moon is in Scorpio

MoonScorpioIntensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.

The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Virgo You're coming into a new cycle centered on taking what you know and what you've got and then making the most of it in the real world. Assimilating information and experience, learning lessons and putting them into practice - that's the focus as this cycle unfolds. It's a time for prudence and stewardship, a time to tend to the details. You probably already have the grand ideals and visions: now you must get your hands dirty with the bricks and mortar and your mind busy with putting it all together.

Mercury in Virgo Mental discipline and patience are keynoted as you enter into a new cycle. Thinking things through, accounting for all the details, making careful measurements: these and similar experiences keep your mind active and involved. An interest in health and work may come to the fore.

Venus in Leo Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired - needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.

Mars in Scorpio Tear it down and build it up again, reach in and pluck out the offending element: that's what the new cycle you have entered is like. Power becomes a compelling idea, perhaps even an aphrodisiac - and you've got a stronger than usual supply of it now. Use it, don't abuse it - or you might find that it's a two-edged sword!

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Scorpio This new cycle signals a need to recognize that there are powers beyond your control, that things are not what they seem on the surface. Trying to stay in control and on top only sets you up for a fall. There is a need for the resources of others. Failure to recognize this and deal with it can stop you in your tracks.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
