New Moon on Saturday, February 13th, 2010, at 9:51 PM EST.

On Saturday night, a New Moon occurs, marking the beginning of a new cycle. The Capricorn New Moon cycle ends and the Aquarius New Moon cycle begins. In the sign of Aquarius, friendship, brotherhood, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, humanitarian efforts, or joining a group will be a strong focus on a personal level. New beginnings regarding all of these matters are possible now.

This is a time during which we should solve problems that require thinking "outside of the box"; look to the future with a brand new, positive, and hopeful vision; brainstorm and socialize; focus on extending a friendly hand, receiving support, and expressing platonic love for those around us; give our emotions and passions a "break", as we develop more objectivity and some detachment from past haunts; learn how something (or someone) works; revitalize ourselves through experiences that are new or simply different; reach out to people in our social circle and in our community, and recognize the value of our friendships and social networks; recognize that some level of detachment and distancing ourselves from our habits and attachment to the past will help us break away from destructive behaviors that are holding us back. With this potent Aquarius energy, we have the chance to make progressive changes in our lives. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters. This New Moon aligns with Neptune and Chiron, bringing dreams, ideals, and the potential for healing, particularly spiritual healing.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 25 degrees and 18 minutes of Aquarius, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 22 to 28 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

The Sun is in Aquarius; Mercury is in Capricorn; Venus is in Aquarius; Mars is in Leo.

The Sun is in Aquarius from January 19-February 18. During this cycle, we are motivated by our hunger for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. We become more aware of what is outdated in our lives, and strive to find new perspectives and new ways to do things. The class distinctions, structure, and order that Capricorn finds appealing now seem to be too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us. We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe.

Mercury is in Capricorn from December 5-February 10. When Mercury is in Capricorn, our thinking is methodical and our focus is sober and practical. It is easier to concentrate on the task at hand under this influence. Our conversations may be quite realistic or focused on business/practical matters. Our thought patterns and communication styles became more logical, orderly, and organized. We are more able to sort out what is relevant and essential. Realism enters the picture, our speech is no-nonsense, and precision becomes important to us. We need to be wary of becoming too rigid in our thinking. We may come across as cold or harsh. For some, there is fine line between realism and pessimism.

Mercury is in Aquarius from February 10-March 1. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.

Venus is in Aquarius from January 18-February 11. We move towards unconventionality, independence, and freedom as themes in our social relationships under this influence. Aquarius can be just as faithful as Capricorn, but it has to be on his own terms! Experimental relationships are more intriguing now. Being friends as well as lovers is important to us during this cycle.

Venus is in Pisces from February 11-March 7. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach nevertheless, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be victimized or deluded, as well as evasiveness.

Mars is in Leo for an extended stay from October 16, 2009 to June 7, 2010. In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We are spirited and have grand goals. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals. The sex drive is strong, and passion for life is high.

Jupiter entered Pisces on January 17th, and will stay in the sign until June 6, 2010. Read more about Jupiter's transit through Pisces here.

Details: December 20th, 2009 at 8:30 am 19°42'Rx to March 10th, 2010 at 05:18 pm  00°18'

Mars is in its shadow from October 17th, 2009; and then until May 17th, 2010.

When Mars is in its retrograde cycle, we are forced to re-assess our current projects, our approach to getting what we want, and our desire nature. Rather than directly asserting our desires, we tend towards introspection. While Mars in direct motion is direct, straightforward, assertive, and aggressive, with Mars in retrograde motion, Mars energy is essentially turned inward--it's internalized, intensified, personalized, and perhaps pressurized. We can be hesitant about taking action, second-guessing our instincts or our natural impulses rather than acting upon them. The way we react to situations under normal conditions doesn't necessarily work for us now, or we don't exactly trust it.

When anger is internalized, there can be some rather negative byproducts, such as tension, resentment, depression, apathy, and even some paranoia. On the other hand, it can also be personalized and made more intimate. The goal of a Mars retrograde period is not, however, to simply sit on our impulses or to squelch our enthusiasm. Rather, it's to better understand our impulses, our survival instincts, our anger, our sexuality, our inner courage, and the ways we go about getting what we want from life. The cosmos are asking us to look before we leap rather than throw ourselves into action, just for the time being.

In many ways, I think of Mars retrograde periods as similar to Mars transits through the twelfth house. It's a time when hesitating is more likely than throwing ourselves into new endeavors. We might require more rest than usual. Some of us are more accident-prone or illness-prone, almost as if the cosmos are forcing us to slow down if we haven't listened to our natural impulses to take a break. It's time for regrouping, and this is important on both physical and emotional levels.

With Mars retrograde in the usually assertive and direct sign of Leo, the tendency to internalize and hesitate might feel especially unnatural. Rather than direct and healthy expressions or outlets for frustrations, we might resort to sneaky, indirect, or obtuse methods of going after what we want. If we push ahead impulsively, we run into problems, obstacles, and frustrations...continued here: Mars Retrograde.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Aquarius from January 18-February 11. While Venus was in Capricorn, we valued enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We took expressing our feelings seriously, and we also took our sweet time warming up to others! Generally, we kept our "cool" in relationships. With Venus now in Aquarius, we still keep our "cool" in relationships, but in a detached and impersonal sort of way, however. Unconventional set-ups become more appealing. Bringing the spirit of friendship into romantic relationships is a positive use of Venus in Aquarius energy. Relationships that fairly scream "alternative" appeal to us now. It's all about being open-minded and somewhat detached with Aquarius energy dominating the love arena. With Venus in Aquarius, it's best to go into dates with new people casually, with no expectations and no strings. Melodrama and emotionalism simply won't work. We may also find ourselves attracted to, or attracting, people who are not our "type".

Venus is in Pisces from February 11-March 7. Like Aquarius, Pisces love is universal. However, Pisces draws no bounds in love. With Venus in Pisces, we have compassion (and perhaps attraction) for those who are left out, overlooked, or victimized. We are self-sacrificing, and we have a hard time setting up borders. The walls go down, we have a hard time saying no (especially if our compassion is engaged), but we are also prone to avoiding all that makes us feel uncomfortable. Wishful thinking is one expression of Venus in Pisces. We can too easily believe what we want to believe. People can be hard to pin down, and love is hard to define under this influence.

This week:

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Aquarius January 18-February 11. A love for the unusual, a distaste for stodgy old rules and conventions, a feeling that you're above the petty bourgeois stuff and nonsense: that's what a new cycle brings into your life now. ("I love humanity; it's people I can't stand!") Unconventional romantic and social connections are likely at a time like this.
Venus in Pisces February 11-March 7. A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you're now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships ... very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus conjunct Neptune February 7-8. New and fresh beginnings on romantic levels characterize this transit. Heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A "magical" time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion.
Venus conjunct Chiron February 7-8. Healing energy is brought to love relationships, and a new cycle begins. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings, and more willing to act upon them. This is a good time to make a resolution to repair, heal, and improve relationships.
Venus parallel Neptune February 9-11.
Venus quincunx Mars February 14. When we attempt to be friendly, we seem to miss the mark. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging. Our romantic sensibilities and our desires are at odds with one another, and problems (especially misunderstandings)  in romantic and sexual relationships may result. This is a less-than-ideal transit under which to begin a new relationship.
Venus quincunx Saturn February 14. A feeling that we may not be able to express our affections, or that our affections will not be received well, can undermine us in our relationships. Fear of rejection, emotional distancing, and over-sensitivity.
Venus sextile Pluto February 14-15. Subtly powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions.
Venus conjunct Jupiter February 16-17. We have large appetites for love and pleasure, and generosity of spirit as well. An excellent time (all things considered) to begin a new relationship, or renew an old/existing one.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Monday, February 8th, from 12:00 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Tuesday, February 9th, at 5:45 AM EST.

VOC Moon on Thursday, February 11th, from 7:40 AM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Uranus), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 6:25 PM EST.

VOC Moon on Saturday, February 13th, from 11:34 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Neptune), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Sunday, February 14th, at 7:24 AM EST.

This Week's Calendar

SunSesquiquadrateSaturn Sun sesquiquadrate Saturn. It's hard to satisfy the ego today. We feel blocked by circumstances or others. It's too easy to feel discouraged, but discouragement is a time waster. Gratitude isn't forthcoming right now, so it's best to wait it out rather than waste energy letting it get to you.

VenusconjunctChiron Venus conjunct Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as to learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses, and are less inclined to see fault, or to concern ourselves with fault. It's a strong time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another, although the process might feel painful! Insecurities are revealed and, ideally, cleansed. A new cycle of healing in love begins now.

VenusconjunctNeptune Venus conjunct Neptune. New and fresh beginnings on creative levels characterize this transit. Heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance today. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A "magical" time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion.

SunSemi-squarePluto Sun semi-square Pluto. A tendency to want to control our lives through some form of manipulation is strong during this influence. Meeting with obstacles in our paths, however, can force us into the position of using all of our resources to fight back, and we can discover resources we never knew we had in the process.

Jupiter Mars quincunx Jupiter. We tend to take on too much—either expend too much energy or overestimate our capabilities—during this transit. Look before your leap!

MarsPluto Mars quincunx Pluto. A strong desire to prove ourselves may be at the root of confrontations and bull-headedness at this time. Avoid forcing issues.

MercurytrineSaturn Mercury trine Saturn. Clear, realistic thinking characterizes this influence. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now is likely to beget tangible results in the future. Conversations may be spare but to the point. Manifestation and achievement are what satisfy.

MercuryoppositionMars Mercury opposition Mars. We may be quick on the trigger when it comes to verbal reactions to others, and we may seriously lack diplomacy at this time. People may do the opposite of what they are told or what they think is best! This is not the best time to take a trip. However, this transit stimulates the desire to work and to produce.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

February 7
The Moon is in spontaneous Sagittarius all day. However, this evening, the Sun in dynamic aspect to Saturn suggests difficulty satisfying the ego, as well as a feeling of being blocked by others or by circumstances. Venus aligns with Chiron tonight and then Neptune early tomorrow. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, or at least to make a resolution to do so, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as to learning from one another. Psychic openness and compassion are strong feelings now.

February 8
Shortly into the day, Venus aligns with Neptune. New and fresh beginnings on creative levels might be had now, as well as heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance today. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A "magical" time on a romantic and social level could be had now, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion are themes. However, later this morning, the Sun semi-squares Pluto, and this adds some element of compulsion to the mix. We should try not to push too hard or to control things too much, as this is the tendency with this aspect. Instead, it might be used to gain deeper insight into our social relationships. Avoid games of manipulation and those playing them. The Moon is in adventurous and spirited Sagittarius all day.

A void of course Moon occurs from 12:00 PM EST, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Capricorn tomorrow, Tuesday, February 9th, at 5:45 AM EST.

February 9
The Moon leaves spirited Sagittarius and enters responsible Capricorn at 5:45 AM EST today. With the Moon in Capricorn, our feelings are generally expressed reservedly and sparingly. Our sense of responsibility is stronger than usual, and we aim for efficiency in most areas of life now. Our view of life in general is more realistic under this influence. We are a little more cautious and draw upon common sense when making decisions. Our careers and objectives are in focus with the Moon in this practical sign. The Moon's alignment with Pluto and square to Saturn this afternoon can point to seriousness and intensity, as well as the possibility of some games of power and control.

The Moon ends its void period when it enters Capricorn at 5:45 AM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Sagittarius

MoonSagittariusThe Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".

The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.

When the Moon is in Capricorn

MoonCapricornrWe become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the face.

The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.

When the Moon is in Aquarius

MoonAquarius Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.

The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Aquarius This is a time when your path of self-development and expression becomes more and more unusual - setting you apart from the crowd and from all that is traditional. The new, the futuristic, the high-tech are the hallmarks of your lifestyle as the cycle gets underway. Ideas and technologies that change the way people live - not just one person, but many - are a major new focus in your life. Involvement with ideals and idealistic groups enhances your sense of purpose and mission.

Mercury in Capricorn Figuring out how to organize projects and people is apt to become a topic of special interest - and a challenge - at a time like this. Opinions are not enough for you now: they must be backed by authority or evidence, and above all they must have practical worth and application. A period of intense study and thought.

Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn't cut it anymore: it's the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.

Venus in Aquarius A love for the unusual, a distaste for stodgy old rules and conventions, a feeling that you're above the petty bourgeois stuff and nonsense: that's what a new cycle brings into your life now. ("I love humanity; it's people I can't stand!") Unconventional romantic and social connections are likely at a time like this.

Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you're now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships ... very aesthetic, very other-worldly.

Mars in Leo The thrill of the chase, the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd: that's what gets your juices flowing now that you've entered a new cycle. To be appreciated, to be admired (adored, even) - that's what you crave. It's a time of creativity, drama, and passion; a time when grabbing the spotlight and stealing the scene gives you a thrill. Is winning everything? No - but it's way ahead of whatever comes in second!

Jupiter in Pisces Mysticism, sensitivity to the needs of others, and an awareness of karma (the link between the present and the past): these are your paths to spiritual growth now. Addressing these issues brings you gain and satisfaction at many levels. A tolerance for differences, an understanding of human frailties and shortcomings.

Saturn in Libra Relationships and fairness take on a special importance in your life under the cycle you have just begun. An insistence on principles that don't allow room for personal differences can be a self-defeating tendency. True partnership means commitment and being responsible to the other person - a lesson that takes on greater importance as this cycle progresses.

Uranus in Pisces
Radical mysticism, idealistic visions, new insights into the linkage between the past and future: all these things are accentuated now, as you come into a new cycle. Experimenting with artistic norms and breaking the rules satisfy an inner need, yet may exact a toll if you are not conscientious about it.

Neptune in Aquarius Humanistic ideals and a belief that technology and social reform can create a utopia become powerful and inspiring images at this time. Personal and selfish concerns seem petty and ignorant - and all the more so if they are part of the status quo. Liberty, equality, fraternity: are they the ultimate answers or only the foundations for something that transcends them all?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
