A LAST QUARTER Moon occurs on Monday, September 15, 2014, at 10:05 PM EDT.

On Monday, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Virgo squares the Moon in Gemini. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week's Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us--and what doesn't--in preparation for next week's New Moon, when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It's time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon on August 25th. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?

This phase of the Moon occurs at 23 degrees and 8 minutes of Gemini square the Sun at 23 degrees and 8 minutes of Virgo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 21 to 25 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)

The Sun is in Virgo; Mercury is in Libra; Venus is in Virgo; Mars is in Sagittarius.

The Sun is in Virgo from August 23-September 22. Our focus shifts to the pieces of the puzzle--the little details of our lives. It is now time to take care of practical concerns. Tending to the details of everyday life may not sound like loads of fun, but it can certainly free us from unnecessary stress that results from "collecting" odds and ends of unfinished business. This is an ideal time to get organized, to do detail work, and to improve communications on the job.

Mercury is in Libra from September 2-27. When Mercury is in Libra, we are diplomatic and friendly. During this cycle, we are able to bring a more rational approach to one-to-one relationships. It's a good time to think about ways of improving our negotiation skills. In an attempt to see both sides of any given situation, Mercury in Libra can be a vacillating energy. It can be more challenging than usual to make quick decisions, as we can sit "on the fence". We may too easily accommodate others' opinions in order to keep the peace. In our negotiations, we don't want to assert ourselves in such a way as to appear to be the "bad guy". However, this is a good period for considering others' points of view. We are more inclined to arrive at fair conclusions.

Venus is in Virgo September 5-29. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures--running errands, doing detail work, or just being there for our lovers. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. Besides our romantic natures, what we decide to buy and the types of entertainment we enjoy during this cycle is ruled by whether or not things make sense. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent at this time. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.

Mars is in Sagittarius from September 13-October 26. With a Sagittarius Mars, our actions are motivated by our ideals. We are bothered by routine, quickly becoming restless if we feel confined. We have a love of adventure, and of conquest--this is the position of wanderlust. We start projects or challenges with gusto, although we may tend to abandon them rather quickly. This may be because we set our sights too high!

Saturn entered Scorpio on October 5, 2012 and will transit the sign until 2015. Read about Saturn's transit through Scorpio here.

Jupiter entered Leo on July 16th, where it will transit until August 11th, 2015. Read about Jupiter's transit through Leo here.

Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.

Romance & Relationships

Venus
is in Virgo from September 5-29. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures--running errands, doing detail work, or just "being there" for our lovers. Essentially, we fuss over our partners, sometimes a little too much! Our availability and accessibility is a sign of love. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent during this cycle. We can be a little shy and prone to worry. We pick up on many different cues, attempting to analyze every detail of our lovers' reactions and responses. We could worry ourselves sick agonizing over details! In the process, we can miss out on the bigger and perhaps more meaningful cues. As well, Virgo is a sign that can live very much in the mind in the middle of an experience, failing to enjoy the moment. Self-consciousness can get in the way of enjoyment. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.

This week: Venus trine Pluto on Sunday the 14th is a wonderfully healing energy that stimulates intense but manageable emotions. Relationships are deep but not draining. On Wednesday, there can be difficulties relating in healthy ways, as we can hold ourselves back from closeness.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Virgo September 5-29. If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn't you feel guilty about it: that's what it's like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.
Venus trine Pluto September 14. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships are intense and deep, but not draining.
Venus quincunx Uranus September 17. Impulsive spending, peculiar attractions, fear of commitment, freedom vs. intimacy issues. We might question whether we need more excitement in our relationships, or whether we need freedom from them; yet we don't feel confident enough to rock the boat.
Venus opposition Chiron September 17. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves. Our relationships may open up some inner wound.
Venus sextile Saturn September 20-21. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor.
Venus parallel Uranus September 21-22. We embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit. Peculiar, sudden, or avant garde attractions. This is an exciting but unstable energy. Friendship in love relationships becomes more important.

The Moon & Timing

The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here, and is indicative of the "outcome" of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period, or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.

The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:

Void-of-course Moon on Saturday, September 13th, from 9:32 AM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a trine to the Sun), until the Moon enters Gemini the next day, Sunday, September 14th, at 2:27 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Monday, September 15th, from 10:05 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Tuesday, September 16th, at 11:24 AM EDT.

VOC Moon on Thursday, September 18th, from 2:38 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Leo at 11:10 PM EDT.

This Week's Aspects

sesquiquadrate  Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus. A tendency to take risks, to feel restless, to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences.

Venus trine Pluto. An excellent time for finances and for relationships, all things equal. Our feelings are intense and impassioned, but not in an offensive or destructive way. The need to share on deeper levels is strong now. A spiritual regeneration through love is possible.

MercurySesquiquadrateNeptune Mercury sesquiquadrate Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It's not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.

VenusoppositionChiron Venus opposition Chiron. Disappointments in love relationships can occur now as we focus on the differences and weaknesses rather than the strong points. We are more aware, and possibly resentful of, imbalances in our relationships. We are less open to romantic feelings and more insecure about whether our affections will be returned.

VenusQuincunxUranus  Venus quincunx Uranus. Impulsive spending, peculiar attractions, fear of commitment, and freedom vs. intimacy issues may be themes now. We might question whether we need more excitement in our relationships (or leisure activities), or whether we need freedom from them; yet we don't feel confident enough to rock the boat.

What's In Store By the Stars - Daily Astrology Trends

(as featured on our site's main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)

SEPTEMBER 14
The Moon is in Taurus until 2:27 AM EDT, when it enters Gemini. A Gemini Moon is communicative, curious, and possibly flighty or nervous when challenged. Mars in dynamic aspect to Uranus this morning can stimulate impulsiveness. However, Venus trine Pluto offers us the opportunity to see where we're lacking focus and passion, or where we've been superficial. It's a time for honoring our deeper feelings and passions and our need to share ourselves with others. We can benefit from strategy in our financial or business affairs.

The void period of the Moon ends at 2:27 AM EDT, when the Moon enters Gemini.

SEPTEMBER 15
The Moon is in Gemini all day. We are sociable and communicative.  We adapt easily to change, and in fact we crave surprise, novelty, and intelligent responses in others. The Last Quarter Moon is exact tonight, when the Sun in Virgo squares the Moon in Gemini at 10:05 PM EDT.

A void of course Moon occurs from 10:05 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Cancer tomorrow, Tuesday, September 16th, at 11:24 AM EDT.

SEPTEMBER 16
The Moon continues its transit of Gemini until 11:24 AM EDT, when it enters Cancer. Restlessness gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet, as well as the need to feel that we belong. Safety and security issues become more important, and we are more concerned than usual about our family and home. We tend to respond to challenges or stress by retreating or withdrawing under the influence of a protective Cancer Moon. Today, much thought can go into our future, life direction, and purpose. As well, information can surface that seems to point us in the right direction.

The void period of the Moon ends at 11:24 AM EDT, when the Moon enters Cancer.

SEPTEMBER 17
The Moon is in protective Cancer all day. Mercury in minor disagreement with Neptune suggests some tendency to blur the facts or stretch the truth to suit our wishes. Venus opposes Chiron and quincunxes Uranus today, and relating to one another can be complicated if we allow insecurities and doubts to rule. Disappointments in love relationships can occur now if we focus on the differences and weaknesses rather than the strong points. We are more aware, and possibly resentful of, imbalances in our relationships. We are less open to romantic feelings and more insecure about whether our affections will be returned. We might question whether we need more excitement in our relationships (or leisure activities), or whether we need freedom from them; yet we don't feel confident enough to rock the boat.

SEPTEMBER 18

A void of course Moon occurs from 2:38 PM EDT, with the Moon's last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Leo at 11:10 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Taurus

MoonTaurusWe are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses". Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.

The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.

When the Moon is in Gemini

MoonGeminiOur basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.

The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, short trips.

When the Moon is in Cancer

MoonCancerThe restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.

The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.

When the Moon is in Leo

MoonLeoThe Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.

The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

This Week's Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends):

Sun in Virgo You're coming into a new cycle centered on taking what you know and what you've got and then making the most of it in the real world. Assimilating information and experience, learning lessons and putting them into practice - that's the focus as this cycle unfolds. It's a time for prudence and stewardship, a time to tend to the details. You probably already have the grand ideals and visions: now you must get your hands dirty with the bricks and mortar and your mind busy with putting it all together.

Mercury in Libra A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts - on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.

Venus in Virgo If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn't you feel guilty about it: that's what it's like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.

Mars in Sagittarius Ideology is a keynote of the new phase you have begun - the power of ideas and the power they wield over people. Religious, cultural, or philosophical controversies and crusades have a way of stirring your blood. Travel and adventure are compelling temptations as you dare to test your mettle and stretch your horizons.

Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.

Saturn in Scorpio This new cycle signals a need to recognize that there are powers beyond your control, that things are not what they seem on the surface. Trying to stay in control and on top only sets you up for a fall. There is a need for the resources of others. Failure to recognize this and deal with it can stop you in your tracks.

Uranus in Aries
A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.

Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver's seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?

Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable - and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small, but has bigger consequences than you'd think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place...
