The New MOON occurs on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at 4:01 PM EDT.
On Saturday afternoon, the New Moon is exact, occurring in the sign of Taurus. The New Moon in Taurus marks the beginning of a new cycle: the Aries New Moon cycle ends and the Taurus New Moon cycle begins.
A New Moon in Taurus is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Bull. It’s time to enjoy life’s simple and physical pleasures–savor good food and enjoy activities that bring us in touch with nature and with our bodies. It’s time to stop and smell the roses and to become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure.
This is a solid cycle for re-evaluating our relationship with money and possessions and discovering what truly makes us happy and fulfilled.
With this potent Taurus energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. It’s time to make some solid and realistic plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs.
The New Moon Chart:
This phase of the Moon occurs at 25 degrees and 58 minutes of Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 22 to 30 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) the most significantly.
The above chart is useful for seeing the most important influences and the chart pattern for this New Moon. The following includes additional points for the nuances:
This New Moon aligns with Mercury and widely harmonizes with Jupiter, and we’re clear-minded and positive.
NEXT WEEK: The next Moon phase will happen on Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, at 7:11 AM EDT, when the First Quarter Moon will occur.

This week: The Sun is in Taurus; Mercury is in Taurus; Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Aries.
The Sun is in Taurus from April 19-May 20. In Taurus, the Sun is methodical, sensual, and receptive. The Sun in Taurus is most active when it is defending or resisting! As the Sun moves through Taurus when plants take root, our determination and security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar and values longevity. The shadow side of Taurus is possessiveness and bullheadedness.
The Sun in Taurus is the connoisseur and sensualist. It’s patient, stubborn, earthy, stable, and rooted. The Sun-in-Taurus cycle is a good one for maintaining or building, as well as enjoying and appreciating what’s already in place. While the Taurus Sun is slow to warm up, it’s stable and persevering once it does. We value what’s long-term, strong, and lasting during this phase.
Mercury is in Taurus from May 2-17. When Mercury is in Taurus, our thinking is down to earth, solid, and grounded. Common sense reigns over more fanciful thinking. We communicate more deliberately under this influence, and our minds are oriented to the world of the five senses. We prefer the tried and true rather than new ways of thinking.
Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives, but we may be in danger of narrow, overly conservative, or rigid thinking. It’s a time of practical intelligence and comfortably-paced decisions and thought processes. We’re capable of (and content with) rote, routine, deliberate, or monotonous work and methods.
Venus is in Gemini from April 24-May 18. With Venus in Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the motto now. We are friendly, communicative, charming, and interested.
While it’s a time when we can be animated and fun, we may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions often begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level while Venus is in Gemini. We’re most attracted to mentally interesting people. Sometimes, our curiosity leads us into relationships that we might not form otherwise. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness or disinterest in profundity.
Venus in Gemini is flirtatious, captivating, and adaptable. We ask questions and want to keep things light and lively. During this transit, we do best when we’re mentally engaged and our desire for variety is addressed. Social stimulation is appealing. Good fortune with transportation and communication can figure strongly.
Mars is in Aries from April 9-May 18. Mars feels at home in Aries, one of the signs that it rules, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident.
Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.
We pursue our goals straightforwardly, confidently, unabashedly, and directly with Mars in Aries. The same goes for expressing anger. We want to be first, come first, and do things on our own–our independence, enterprise, and initiative are well-developed.
This transit is better for endeavors that require courage and strong but not necessarily sustained passion and energy. We don’t want to look back or overthink–we only concern ourselves with what we can accomplish right now. Not inclined to beat around the bush, we confidently pursue our desires.

Jupiter is in Cancer.
Jupiter began its transit of Cancer on June 9th, 2025, and will continue its visit to the sign until June 30th, 2026. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Cancer.

Saturn is in Aries. Saturn is in Aries from May 24th, 2025 to September 1st, 2025, and then from February 13th, 2026, to April 12th, 2028. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aries.

Uranus is in Gemini.
Uranus is in Gemini from July 7th to November 7th, 2025, from April 25, 2026, to August 3, 2032, and then from December 12, 2032, to May 22, 2033. Read about Uranus in Gemini in its calendar page.

Neptune is in Aries. Neptune first transited Aries from March 30, 2025, to October 22, 2025, but it returned to Pisces. Now, Neptune is in Aries for the long haul: from January 26, 2026, to May 21, 2038, and then October 21, 2038, to March 23, 2039. Read about Neptune’s transit of Aries.

Pluto is in Aquarius. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Note that Pluto finally completed its journey through Capricorn on November 19th, 2024, from which time Pluto stays in Aquarius for many years to come.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from April 24-May 18. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Fickleness with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates.
Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: On Sunday, we’re optimistic and friendly, although we could feel somewhat divided between pursuing pleasure and what we think we should be doing. As well, some tension can result from insecurities. Friday brings friendly energy as well, but also some indecision and a tendency to misrepresent what we feel through our words due to a disconnect.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes natural now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus semi-square Chiron May 4. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves.
Venus semi-sextile the Sun May 10. We may feel that our quest for pleasure, affection, love, or comfort is at odds with what we think we should be doing, which can lead to mild tension or feelings of guilt, and perhaps some indecision. Seeking to fulfill both of these needs without doing so at the expense of the other makes sense, but isn’t straightforward at this time.
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto May 10. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus semi-sextile Mercury May 15. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel.
Venus sextile Chiron May 17. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
Venus sextile Mars May 18-19. This points to success and ease in close personal interactions. We are passionate. It’s a good time for financial ventures, social life, artistic pursuits, romance, and pleasure. We are now able to take the initiative and to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. We may make permanent ties or relationships that prove to be fruitful and fortunate.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, May 10th, from 1:09 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Pisces at 1:40 PM EDT.
VOC on Tuesday, May 12th, from 6:05 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries at 8:05 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, May 14th, from 5:34 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mars), until the Moon enters Taurus at 10:32 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, May 16th, from 9:03 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mercury), until the Moon enters Gemini at 10:24 PM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the afternoon of the 16th, which is generally considered unfavorable for brand-new beginnings, although with some exceptions. After the New Moon on the 16th, the Moon is waxing, which is generally favorable for new beginnings, but also with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from approximately 6:15 PM EDT on Saturday, May 9th, until approximately 1:05 AM EDT on Sunday, May 10th, while the Moon is in Aquarius. Another window occurs on Thursday, May 14th, from approximately 8:45 AM to 5:30 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Aries.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
![]()
![]()
Sun sextile Jupiter. This transit can bring hopefulness, good will, and increased influence into our lives. It’s favorable for marketing, publishing, and advertising, as well as any self-promotion activities. We may be especially sociable, tolerant, and generous under this influence. Confidence comes from a stronger sense of who we are and the principles we represent. Some form of recognition or distinction is possible now. We are more able to grasp the “big picture” which expands our perspective.
![]()
![]()
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto. This influence can point to some underlying tensions in social interactions (looking for an ulterior motive and suspiciousness) and relationships (possible jealousies). Passions run hot, but there’s a hidden agenda. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness can be brewing just under the surface of things, and they are in direct proportion to our fear of losing something or someone dear to us.
![]()
![]()
Mercury semi-square Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. The tendency is to gloss over technical facts. There are better times to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements. It can be hard to find the words we need to express ourselves.
![]()
![]()
Mercury sextile Jupiter. Positive thinking, new insights, and cooperation are themes now. This influence favors short trips, writing, teaching, studying, submitting applications and forms, test taking, and making diagnoses and observations. This is a time when we more readily exercise good judgment, take a more philosophical approach to thinking, and are more open to learning.
![]()
![]()
Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!
![]()
![]()
Mercury semi-square Saturn. Red tape, re-doing tasks we thought we had finished, problems getting from point A to point B, delays in communication, negative thinking, hyper-sensitivity and criticism–these are all potentials now. The energy is best used for focusing on fixing errors rather than harping on how irritating they are!
![]()
![]()
Sun semi-square Saturn. It’s hard to satisfy the ego today. We feel blocked by circumstances or others. It’s too easy to feel discouraged, but discouragement is a time waster. Gratitude isn’t forthcoming right now, so it’s best to wait it out rather than waste energy letting it get to you.
![]()
![]()
Mars conjunct Chiron. We may have the opportunity to take the lead, or to take action, regarding matters that lead to healing, cleansing, or teaching now. This can be a time of a release of suppressed energies. We can feel a sense of mission. There is likely to be a feeling of fearlessness when it comes to addressing problem areas, and self-confidence as well. There is a drive to take positive action, usually to defend or help others (or ourselves).

MAY 10
The Sun forms a sextile with Jupiter, and Venus gets between the two bodies. These transits encourage hopefulness and generosity. It can be a time to engage with others in delightful ways and enjoy the opportunities that result. Confidence comes from a stronger sense of who we are and the principles we represent. Some form of recognition or distinction is possible now. We can grasp the “big picture,” which expands our perspective and makes us feel more vital and confident.
We may feel lucky in love or feel a strong desire to live life more fully. There can be romantic joy, drawing honors or recognition to us, prosperity in creative or guidance fields, and some success with speculation.
The Moon continues its transit of Aquarius until 1:40 PM EDT, when it moves into Pisces. The Pisces Moon is gentle and kind, although sometimes distant or withdrawn. We’re processing and digesting recent events at this time of the lunar month.
The Moon is void from 1:09 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Pisces at 1:40 PM EDT.
MAY 11
The Moon spends the day in Pisces, encouraging us to connect with our inner world. We’re paying more attention to endings, past matters, and closing projects. We do well today if we embrace and express our compassion. We appreciate subtleties and nuances more than usual, but especially as the day advances, we’re communicative as well as observant.
Nevertheless, we’re approaching a Mercury-Neptune semi-square that perfects early tomorrow, and we may struggle with our perceptions, which can be clouded by wishful thinking. We tend to favor daydreaming and creative thinking over dealing with facts and figures. It’s not an ideal time to formalize agreements, as we may not be paying close attention to details. Misunderstandings are possible due to vague communications.
MAY 12
The Moon continues its transit of Pisces until 8:05 PM EDT, when it heads into Aries, and we instinctively seek a fresh start. Venus forms a quintile with Saturn today, and we’re inclined to maneuver and plan tastefully. We may be showcasing our reliability and loyalty.
As the day advances, we approach a Mercury-Jupiter sextile that’s exact very early tomorrow and is strongly influencing today. This transit is gracious. It stirs optimism. We’re alert and resourceful, seeking the positive side of situations and solutions to problems. We take a more philosophical approach to thinking and are more open to learning. It’s a time of optimism, new insights, and cooperation. Our minds open, and we seek a positive focal point. This is a time when we more readily exercise good judgment. Today may be a good time to reach a mutually beneficial agreement or arrangement.
The Moon is void from 6:05 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries at 8:05 PM EDT.

Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
![]()

People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Taurus The cycle now dawning in your life emphasizes stability, substance, practicality, and the concept of value – value in the material as well as psycho-spiritual sense. This marks a time of building to last, of appreciating the substantial rather than ephemeral. Consolidating past gains rather than focusing on radical new departures is likely to be a major theme for you during this cycle. Appreciating the finer things of life is another hallmark of this phase, which marks a time when you should be concentrating on “smelling the roses” rather than passing them by in such a hurry.
Mercury in Taurus “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” – that’s the key to the way you think at a time like this. Practical, utilitarian ideas are the ones that make the most sense now – putting them to good use is a focus for you. Material things are foremost on your mind in many respects: an emphasis on the real rather than the ideal.
Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life – lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new – let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far … sometimes in harm’s way, if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Cancer Taking care of yourself and all that’s yours becomes a high priority in your life now. Security, setting down roots, establishing your ties with the past: these things are among the articles of faith that guide you. This is often a sign of growth in all things connected with family and property (such as real estate).
Saturn in Aries Self-discipline and a sense of self-worth become important issues in your life as a new phase begins for you. A fear of asserting yourself can hold you back – as can coming on too strong. The trick is learning to make the most of your personal talents and abilities, working within your limitations instead of feeling hemmed in by them.
Uranus in Gemini New ideas, new input, and new ways of exchanging these things with others – all these and more become increasingly important factor in your life now, as you enter into a new phase. This is a period of enhanced mental activity, a nonstop stream of consciousness, of trying out new concepts and perspectives.
Neptune in Aries The frontier spirit is alive and well as a new cycle dawns in your life. Independence and originality take on a kind of primal importance for you; you tend to put these qualities on a pedestal, above all else. Fresh starts, new possibilities … these are the visions that light a spark in your soul. But what of the weak, the ones who aren’t free, the ones who get left behind?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.

This New Moon aligns with Mercury and widely harmonizes with Jupiter, and we’re clear-minded and positive.

MAY 13
MAY 14
The Moon is void today from 5:34 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mars), until the Moon enters Taurus at 10:32 PM EDT.
MAY 15
MAY 16
The Moon is void today from 9:03 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mercury), until the Moon enters Gemini at 10:24 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Aquarius
![]()
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
![]()
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
![]()
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
![]()
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
![]()
