Last Quarter Moon
The Last Quarter MOON occurs on Tuesday, July 7th, 2026, at 3:29 PM EDT.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Last Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Cancer forms a square with the Moon in Aries.
The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the whole light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a significant project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of what was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?
The following is a chart of this Last Quarter Moon in a 0-Aries (“locationless”) wheel:
The Last Quarter Moon Chart:
This phase of the Moon occurs at 15 degrees and 42 minutes of Aries square the Sun at the same degree of Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 14 to 18 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.
NEXT WEEK: The next Moon phase will occur on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026, at 5:43 AM EDT, when the New Moon will happen.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Cancer; Mercury is in Cancer; Venus is in Leo until the 9th, when Venus enters Virgo; Mars is in Gemini.
The Sun is in Cancer from June 21-July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home,” safe, and secure.
Nurturing and caring for our loved ones and pet projects come into focus. Emotions run deep, and we easily tune in to the world of feelings. Note that we are more in tune with the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.
We may not want to grow up and face responsibilities or the outside world during the Sun-in-Cancer cycle. We should watch for dependence when we’d do better for ourselves otherwise. However, it’s a robust transit for recognizing our needs for comfort, safety, and familiarity. We’re inclined to form strong bonds and protect our loved ones.
Mercury is in Cancer from June 1-August 9 [a longer than usual transit due to Mercury’s retrograde from June 29th to July 23rd, entirely in the sign of Cancer]. When Mercury is in Cancer, we move from the desire for quantity with information to the need for quality. We think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more instinctive level. We have less interest in what is universal and more interest in what affects us personally and the people close to us. Our thoughts are colored by our emotions, making it more challenging to be objective.
We have outstanding and detailed memories during this cycle. We’re more likely to absorb information about the emotional background or atmosphere/setting around us, picking up on moods and tones in addition to facts.
While we may not have great confidence in our ability to generate new or original ideas, we have a well-developed sense of humor and radiate warmth in our communications. We take great interest in (and notice of) personal issues and interactions during this period. We don’t care much for intellectual stands if they’re devoid of a personal or heartful element, and we need intimate settings to express ourselves fully.
Venus is in Leo from June 13-July 9. Love is magnificent and grand while Venus is in Leo. We take pride in love, and we are generous with our money as well. This is a warmhearted, teasing, expressive, proud, and extravagant placement for Venus. Love is a bit of a game–a game that is perpetual, as Venus in Leo is forever stuck in the romance stage of a relationship. We feed on attention, acknowledgement, validation, and adoration.
Venus in Leo loves to be adored, pampered, and admired. Pride and passion are hallmarks of this cycle. We have a strong ego investment in our love lives during this period. The negative expression of this placement is overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.
The Venus-in-Leo cycle can be a strong or profitable time for contests, lotteries, parties, recreation, drama, adornment, jewelry, costumes, art dealing, and all things golden. Generosity and warmth contribute to our ability to draw in the right resources. We can have a compelling desire to stand out, be remarkable, and feel special during this period.
Venus is in Virgo from July 9-August 6. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, doing detail work, or just being there for our lovers. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo.
Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual, but Virgo is also quite practical and mental. In addition to our romantic natures, what we purchase and the types of entertainment we enjoy during this cycle are ruled by whether or not they make sense and serve a practical purpose.
We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent at this time. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners or relationships, picky, nervous, or worried.
During the Venus-in-Virgo cycle, we can gravitate to, and find some benefits in, holistic healing, acupuncture, yoga, and nutritional boosts. We’re keenly interested in ways to enrich our lives and boost our well-being. “Health is wealth” could be a motto now. In fact, we might enjoy health-boosting activities more than usual. Businesses promoting nutrition, wholesomeness, and well-being might prosper at this time. Commitment and attention to detail are also more prominently considered virtues now.
In love, we’re not very showy, flowery, or demonstrative. Instead, we show our love through being of service. We’re conservative with money, pleasure, and romance at this time, ready to analyze and dissect these matters. This can also be a time when helping others, particularly with good advice regarding these Venus-ruled things, can be prominent and successful. We might meet friends or lovers through our work or health-pursuits. We can take a special interest in handiwork, crafts, lists/sorting, and bookkeeping.
Mars is in Gemini from June 28-August 11. In Gemini, Mars is versatile and flexible but not especially determined or focused. We should watch for becoming so scattered that we’re ineffective. However, it’s an excellent period for diversifying our interests and understanding the power of our communications.
It’s an excellent time for strategizing and devising useful tactics to achieve our desires and goals. We’re resourceful and clever, and we know how to use words effectively.
Perhaps most notable during this period is our tactical skills. We know how to maneuver things to get our way. We use words to charm and express anger. We’re very talkative, and animatedly so, when passionate and enthusiastic about a topic.

Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Leo from June 13-July 9. Love is magnificent and grand!
Venus is in Virgo from July 9-August 6. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, doing detail work, or just “being there” for our lovers. Essentially, we fuss over our partners, sometimes a little too much! Our availability and accessibility is a sign of love.
Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent during this cycle. We can be a little shy and prone to worry. We pick up on many different cues, attempting to analyze every detail of our lovers’ reactions and responses. We could worry ourselves sick agonizing over details! In the process, we can miss out on the bigger and perhaps more meaningful cues.
As well, Virgo is a sign that can live very much in the mind in the middle of an experience, failing to enjoy the moment. Self-consciousness can get in the way of enjoyment. Rendering services to others can fill a need, and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.
This week: On Sunday, friendly energy is with us, but also some indecision and a tendency to misrepresent what we feel through our words due to a disconnect.
On Wednesday and early Thursday, we can find several little things wrong with our relationships, or there can be some awkward energy in our interactions.
Thursday and Friday bring the tendency to review our attachments in terms of whether they are contributing to our growth. Encounters can feel fated. We are more sensitive to whether or not some relationships (or elements of our relationships) are good for us. It’s best to watch for falling back on behaviors and indulgences that keep us distant from our true feelings and needs. However, we’re open to connecting and bonding with one another as well as learning through our interactions.
Saturday‘s energies are strong for healing, connecting, and bonding.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Leo Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired – needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.
Venus in Virgo If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn’t you feel guilty about it: that’s what it’s like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune June 29-30. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus semi-sextile Mercury July 4-5. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel.
Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn July 8-9. Feelings of isolation, of not getting what we really want, and of not being loved the way we want to be loved can get in the way of pleasant relations with our partners.
Venus trine Chiron July 9-10. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings.
Venus opposition Moon’s North Node (conjunct South Node) July 9-10. This is a time for reviewing our attachments in terms of whether they are contributing to our growth.
Venus parallel Chiron July 11. Relationships go through healing and reparation. We’re open to romantic feelings, and more willing to act upon them.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, July 6th, from 1:21 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Aries at 11:07 AM EDT.
VOC on Wednesday, July 8th, from 2:42 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Venus), until the Moon enters Taurus at 4:31 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, July 10th, from 6:13 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Gemini at 6:42 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, July 11th, from 6:11 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Sunday, July 12th, at 6:46 PM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waning this week, which is generally thought to be unfavorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from approximately 12:30 PM EDT on Saturday, July 4th, until Monday, July 6th, at approximately 1:15 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Pisces. Another window occurs on Wednesday, July 8th, from approximately 6:30 AM to 2:40 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Aries. Another window occurs from Thursday, July 9th, from approximately 2:00 AM EDT, until Friday, July 10th, at approximately 6:10 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Taurus. Note that Mercury is retrograde during these windows.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
![]()
![]()
Mars trine Pluto. This is a powerful aspect that helps us to focus on our goals, to take decisive action, and to go after what we want without stepping on others’ toes. We are willing to explore alternatives rather than simply relying on the tried and true. We are not afraid of a challenge and are willing to attempt to overcome obstacles. This is a strong energy for reworking or overhauling a project.
![]()
![]()
Sun square Saturn. As we face obstacles to our goals, we begin to see the tools with which we have to overcome them. A heavy dose of realism seems forced upon us under this influence, but our efforts to measure up to expectations can ultimately increase our confidence in our ability to be responsible for ourselves. This influence is a somber one.
![]()
![]()
Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn. There may be difficulties relating to others under this influence. People may be cool with their affections and emotionally distant. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be “money pits” as time passes. There may be anxiety or troubles with regards to matters concerned with the feelings. Romantic disappointments, unrequited love, separations, and broken engagements are the more negative manifestations. We tend to lack social confidence at this time and adopt a shy, formal, or reserved social manner. This transit is best used for reflection.
![]()
![]()
Mercury semi-square Mars. We are quick-witted and ready to argue under this influence. We may be working under stressful or hectic conditions, as we feel pressure to get things done quickly. We are inclined to be snappy and irritable, and we may too easily interrupt others rather than listen. Conflicts of interest are likely.
![]()
![]()
Venus trine Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses, and are less inclined to see fault, or to concern ourselves with fault. It’s a strong time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another.

![]()
Sun semi-square Uranus. During this transit, we feel the need for action, but if we don’t know where we’re headed, we might take the wrong turn. Unexpected changes in plans or events can test our patience, and we might feel a bit out of control. However, they could stimulate us to try new approaches and they certainly act to cut boredom. This transit could offer us the drive to do something new, but avoid making hasty major decisions for the time being.

JULY 5
Today’s Mars-Pluto trine puts us in an excellent position to harness the power of desire and make it work for us.
With this influence, we gain determination and a stronger feeling of purpose. We are willing to explore alternatives rather than fall back on the tried and true. Unafraid of a challenge, we prioritize overcoming obstacles. It’s excellent energy for reworking or overhauling a project. We are incredibly effective and perhaps a little ruthless about getting rid of what we don’t need. It’s a powerful time for stamina, energy, and confidence as well as for getting to the heart of a matter.
Later today, we approach a Sun-Saturn square, however, which can present some challenges or obstacles. Facing a reality may be in store.
JULY 6
The Sun forms a square with Saturn today, bringing on a rather cautious and serious energy to our lives. We can experience a decline in vitality and encounter obstacles and challenges. Sacrifices may be necessary. However, these very things can help us recognize our ability to overcome challenges, boosting our sense of self-reliance. It can be a time to face reality, recognize the practical side of a situation, and assume more responsibility. Generally, with this aspect in play, it’s best to conserve energy and downplay the ego rather than fight or push things. This is a time for thinking about what’s best in the long term, and it may mean forgoing or limiting something in the present.
The Moon continues to transit Pisces until 11:07 AM EDT, when it heads into Aries. The Aries Moon forms rich aspects today, pointing to increased confidence and opportunities as the day advances. We want to start fresh, and we’re less interested in the past than in what will work for us today and going forward.
The Moon is void from 1:21 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Aries at 11:07 AM EDT.
JULY 7
Neptune stations and turns retrograde today, and this shift casts a veil over our practical affairs. There can be a temporary loss of inspiration as we realign our dreams and wishes with what’s inside us. The retrograde cycle itself, which lasts until December 12th, suggests a period of taking in, receptiveness, and some indecisiveness. It can be a period of feeling in limbo, but it might also be a time of great inner discovery. This isn’t the first retrograde turn while Neptune is in Aries, but it’s the first one where Neptune spends the entire retrograde in the sign.
The Last Quarter Moon phase occurs at 3:29 PM EDT, marked by the Sun in Cancer forming a square to the Moon in Aries. This phase signifies a shift in our perception of recent events, as we begin to see them in a more mature light. The next few days are opportune for reassessing matters from a more experienced viewpoint. However, it’s important to note that we might feel temporarily tense or conflicted. The Moon transits impulsive, direct Aries all day. Still, as the Moon aligns with Saturn early afternoon, personal responsibilities can come to light. We can be quite motivated to be more self-reliant, and we may find wisdom in traditional methods.
JULY 8
A creative aspect between Venus and Neptune early today boosts our ability to solve interpersonal problems and is strong for intuitively understanding and getting along with others. It can be a good time for relaxing escapes. We appreciate subtleties and nuances more than usual. However, the Moon continues its transit of Aries until 4:31 PM EDT, which is straightforward, unsubtle energy! The Moon in Taurus from 4:31 PM forward is harmony-oriented, comfortable, and stubborn. Stability and permanence satisfy a deep emotional need. While the Taurus Moon can have a stabilizing effect on our feelings, the Moon’s alignment with Chiron this afternoon prompts us to recognize our need for self-direction. It motivates us to address unresolved emotional matters and to approach them creatively.
The Moon is void from 2:42 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Venus), until the Moon enters Taurus at 4:31 PM EDT.
JULY 9
Venus enters Virgo today, where it will remain until August 6th. We may find more pleasure in our work or wellness routines than usual during Venus’s stay in Virgo, and the satisfaction of a job well done is particularly rewarding. Pleasures and pastimes that serve a useful purpose become more appealing. Virgo is sensual yet practical. We express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, paying attention to detail, or simply being there for our loved ones. However, there may be some nervousness, and we should be mindful of a tendency to worry, overanalyze, or fret, especially in our relationships during this cycle.
A Mars-Juno trine encourages us to be direct with one another early today. Our relationships strengthen as we share power and validate one another’s input and opinions. We act with more purpose and resolve but also have a strong awareness of other issues and others’ agendas, which is a powerful combination.
A Mercury-Mars semi-square, in play as the day advances, introduces some nervous tension or impatience into our communications and actions. We can quickly come up with ideas or retorts, but we can be a little jumpy and snappy under this influence. If we succumb to the pressure to complete tasks quickly, we may be working under stressful or hectic conditions. It’s not an ideal transit for patience or listening skills. However, frustration could fuel our motivation to make a change.
As well, we head toward a Venus-Chiron trine, which is friendly for matters of intimacy or commitment. We’re open to learning from one another. It’s not only a strong time for building trust in relationships and recognizing the potential in one another, but also a time when we’re clearer about what we value in material things and pastimes.
JULY 10
Venus aligns with the Moon’s South Node this morning, and we might question whether some relationships (or elements of our relationships) are good for us. It’s possible that we’re enabling others or succumbing to our own indulgences. We may be temperamental when it comes to our feelings and affections. It can be all too easy to fall back on behaviors and indulgences that keep us distant from our true feelings and needs.
Still, we’re open to using lessons from our past experiences to clear the path for personal accomplishment. Being open, honest, and willing to be vulnerable can help us move forward. The Moon continues its transit of steady Taurus until 6:42 PM EDT, when it heads into sociable Gemini. Our mindset is happy, friendly, and optimistic. We may be living in our heads in some manner later today, and we might fully enjoy exchanging ideas and information.
The Moon is void today from 6:13 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mercury), until the Moon enters Gemini at 6:42 PM EDT.
JULY 11
Today’s Sun-Uranus semi-square, a minor aspect, adds a layer of rebellious energy to the day. This transit can stir some restlessness that may seem too generalized to put to productive use. We can feel compelled to shake things up, make changes, and break the routine. However, we could also be tense if there are unexpected schedule changes or if we’re not in touch with what we need to change. In such times, it’s better to keep things simple.
The Gemini Moon is communicative, intelligent, and curious. While it’s generally a light energy, the Moon’s alignment with Mars suggests a tendency toward impulsiveness. We’re connecting with our need for information and contact, and we’re ready to put some muscle behind achieving these goals. This aspect awakens emotional desire and stimulates a sense of urgency.
Also today, Venus forms a semi-sextile to Jupiter, which can create some ambivalence. It’s challenging to find a balance between what we want to do and what we think we should do. As a result, we could be see-sawing between alternatives. Temporarily, it can be difficult to settle on a solid plan that pleases us. However, this is a forgiving, gracious transit, boosted by today’s Venus-Chiron parallel. We’re seeking meaningful connections.
The Moon is void today from 6:11 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Sunday, July 12th, at 6:46 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Pisces
![]()
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
![]()
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
![]()
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
![]()
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Cancer Being more in touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do with feelings, but it’s more than that: it’s about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At some levels, this means a greater focus on family life – parents, children, relatives, the whole domestic scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you’re likely to find that houses and other real property take on greater significance for you. Nurturing is where it’s at in your life now: making things grow and taking care of them, planting seeds that will develop and survive far into the future – that’s what it’s all about.
Mercury in Cancer Gut-level is the way you think, speak, and perceive in the cycle you have just begun. You aren’t interested in the superficial; instead, you want to get right to the root of things. You don’t care about the universal, only about how things impact you and yours. Intellect and emotion mix to the point of inseparability.
Mars in Gemini Learning, communicating, the exchange of ideas: these are the experiences you crave as a means to make your mark now, as a new phase begins in your life. You’re a person with something to say, and you realize that others have information that is essential to your goals. A time of much mental energy and initiative … perhaps with an element of conflict tossed in for good measure.
Jupiter in Leo High drama, big romance, a creative bonanza: this is the stuff dreams are made of now. The world is your stage, the spotlight is your goal, and the love and appreciation of others is the air you breathe. Children, lovers, admirers: these are the people who figure large in your life as this cycle progresses. A willingness to gamble on the future.
Saturn in Aries Self-discipline and a sense of self-worth become important issues in your life as a new phase begins for you. A fear of asserting yourself can hold you back – as can coming on too strong. The trick is learning to make the most of your personal talents and abilities, working within your limitations instead of feeling hemmed in by them.
Uranus in Gemini New ideas, new input, and new ways of exchanging these things with others – all these and more become increasingly important factor in your life now, as you enter into a new phase. This is a period of enhanced mental activity, a nonstop stream of consciousness, of trying out new concepts and perspectives.
Neptune in Aries The frontier spirit is alive and well as a new cycle dawns in your life. Independence and originality take on a kind of primal importance for you; you tend to put these qualities on a pedestal, above all else. Fresh starts, new possibilities … these are the visions that light a spark in your soul. But what of the weak, the ones who aren’t free, the ones who get left behind?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.

The New MOON occurs on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026, at 5:43 AM EDT.
On Tuesday morning, the Sun and Moon align in the sign of Cancer. The New Moon in Cancer is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Crab. These include honoring our deepest, most irrational and intimate, feelings; recognizing the sense of security and safety we derive from whatever it is we call home; allowing ourselves to accept support and offering support to others; and starting a project aimed at improving our domestic lives or a major long-term venture.
With this potent Cancer energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle.
It’s time to make some plans and set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs. Concentrate on new ways to enhance family life and domestic affairs, and to build up your feelings of security and safety.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 21 degrees and 59 minutes of Cancer, affecting people with personal planets and points at approximately 18 to 26 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.
This New Moon aligns with retrograde Mercury, and it’s hard to see our path, but our discomfort with the past can be very real now, motivating new beginnings.
The New Moon Chart:
This phase of the Moon occurs at 21 degrees and 59 minutes of Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 18 to 26 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.
The above chart wheel is excellent for visualizing essential chart patterns as it shows the positions of the major or core bodies. The following chart wheel has additional points such as Chiron, the asteroids, and more, which can be studied for more refinement or additional analysis:
NEXT WEEK: The next Moon phase will occur on Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, at 7:05 AM EDT, when the First Quarter Moon will happen.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Cancer; Mercury is in Cancer; Venus is in Virgo; Mars is in Gemini.
Jupiter is in Leo.

Saturn is in Aries. Saturn is in Aries from May 24th, 2025 to September 1st, 2025, and then from February 13th, 2026, to April 12th, 2028. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aries.

Uranus is in Gemini.
Uranus is in Gemini from July 7th to November 7th, 2025, from April 25, 2026, to August 3, 2032, and then from December 12, 2032, to May 22, 2033. Read about Uranus in Gemini in its calendar page.

Neptune is in Aries. Neptune first transited Aries from March 30, 2025, to October 22, 2025, but it returned to Pisces. Now, Neptune is in Aries for the long haul: from January 26, 2026, to May 21, 2038, and then October 21, 2038, to March 23, 2039. Read about Neptune’s transit of Aries.

Pluto is in Aquarius. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Note that Pluto finally completed its journey through Capricorn on November 19th, 2024, from which time Pluto stays in Aquarius for many years to come.
Romance & Relationships
This week: Energies from Sunday to Tuesday are complicated. We might disconnect from our hearts in some ways. This can be a time of more frequent separations, at least on an emotional or affectional level. This disengagement is possibly only temporary. Because our confidence and, consequently, our timing can be off now, it’s best to choose this time to reflect rather than innovate, seal a deal, or otherwise move ahead. We can be flighty with one another, unsure whether we want to be close to someone or free from ties temporarily. We can be dodging commitments, preferring to keep our options open.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Virgo If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn’t you feel guilty about it: that’s what it’s like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.
Venus square Uranus July 12-13. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting, but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last–but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.
Venus quincunx Neptune July 13. Idealism and disappointments in love. Avoid becoming blinded by what you want to see, rather than what really is. Doubts about love.
Venus quincunx Pluto July 13. This is a time of adjustments and re-assessments in our close personal relationships and/or with regards to our social lives. Issues of power and control can arise. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
Venus semi-square Mercury July 13-14. Communications between lovers are superficial and unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. Superficiality in romantic expression may exist now.
Venus quincunx Saturn July 22-23. A feeling that we may not be able to express our affections, or that our affections will not be received well, can undermine us in our relationships. Fear of rejection, emotional distancing, and over-sensitivity.
Void-of-course Moon on Saturday, July 11th, from 6:11 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Sunday, July 12th, at 6:46 PM EDT.
VOC on Tuesday, July 14th, from 5:44 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to the Sun), until the Moon enters Leo at 6:35 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, July 15th, from 6:27 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Virgo the next day, Thursday, July 16th, at 8:08 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, July 18th, from 6:14 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Libra the next day, Sunday, July 19th, at 12:57 AM EDT.

The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the 14th, which is generally thought to be unfavorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. The Moon is waxing after the New Moon on the 14th, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, but also with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from approximately … Note that Mercury is retrograde during these windows.

This Week’s Aspects

![]()
Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!
![]()
![]()
Venus square Uranus. Values and tastes may clash, and group activities may suffer as a result. Impulsive attractions to both people and material goods can lead us astray. Avoid impulse buys at this time. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness is probable in romantic relationships. We may not see eye to eye, and we might be taken off guard by unexpected events. This is not a favorable aspect for beauty treatments because they could have unexpected results. We may struggle with freedom versus intimacy issues at this time. Hold off on decision-making with regards to finances.

![]()
Venus quincunx Pluto. This is a time of adjustments and re-assessments in our close personal relationships and/or with regards to our social lives. Issues of power and control can arise. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
![]()
![]()
Venus quincunx Neptune. Under this influence, we are apt to see what we want to see, rather than what actually is, when it comes to both financial affairs and affairs of the heart. Still, we tend to doubt our perceptions of perfection. The end result is a feeling of insecurity on romantic and social levels. Avoid making large purchases and commitments at this time.
![]()
![]()
Mercury semi-square Venus. Difficulties in social or romantic communication are possible today. On the other hand, we may make more efforts to be polite and to communicate. Hypersensitivity, and lack of mental discipline. Our minds wander.
![]()
![]()
Mercury semi-square Uranus. We can have flashes of insight, but tend to be scatterbrained. Our ideas and communications may not be well-received because they don’t seem to others to carry weight. Our minds are not peaceful or harmonious under this influence, and irritable tempers, sarcastic speech, and dogmatism are negative expressions of this energy.
![]()
![]()
Uranus sextile Neptune. We’re seeking (and finding) illumination. It’s a time of more openness to alternative ways of living, believing, and expression. We’re receptive to different or unusual experiences and ideas. At the same time, we’re averse to any form of force-feeding spirituality or belief systems, preferring our freedom to follow our intuition. It’s a time to reform and update how we express compassion, care for the underprivileged, pursue our dreams, seek escapes, and do art and creativity. However, we can also be more sensitive to stimulants.
![]()
![]()
Uranus trine Pluto. We more readily tap into our deeper ambitions and motivations, and this knowledge of and connection with our inner selves can lead to terrific new directions. It’s a powerful period for psychoanalysis, as we’re just detached enough to delve into our personal psychology more objectively. We recognize the need for change and reform, but also realize that having a solid plan of action is to our great benefit. As such, it can be a time of measured, deliberate change-making. It’s a fine time for forging new alliances and friendships. We might awaken to hidden or dormant talents, including inventiveness, or recognize a stronger desire for independence and freedom. The desire for new experiences is strong.

JULY 12
The Moon continues its transit of Gemini until 6:46 PM EDT, when it moves into Cancer. Our stores of compassion and imagination are readily accessible, and we’re open to latching onto something that inspires us this evening.
However, the inferior conjunction of the Sun and Mercury occurs today, marking the middle of the Mercury retrograde phase. We get a unique window into the past as it might impact our future. It’s an important time for new ideas, although they’re very new and raw at this “birthing” stage. There is an awakening happening at this time as we release old patterns and begin anew. It’s a good time to process recent events and ideas, and to begin looking at problems or issues from a new perspective and understanding, mainly related to home, family, and nurture. Significant new ideas are born at this time, and they’re likely to have staying power or significance down the road. What we say or write now has more impact than usual. Still, we may not have all the facts necessary to reach a solid conclusion, and we might later have to revise our plans or decisions.
The Sun approaches a parallel to Mars today, strengthening our resolve and quickening our reactions. This transit increases energy and enterprise.
The Moon continues its void period today until the Moon enters Cancer at 6:46 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Gemini
![]()
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
![]()
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
When the Moon is in Leo
![]()
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
When the Moon is in Virgo
![]()
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.

Venus in Virgo If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn’t you feel guilty about it: that’s what it’s like now. A loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.
