Overview of 2021
After an astrologically challenged year, we’re looking forward to rebuilding and improving our quality of life in the year 2021.
The year ahead brings a stronger showing in the sign of Aquarius. Saturn’s now comfortably in the sign, spending all year in Aquarius, the Water Bearer. Jupiter is there as well for much of the year, but it’s dividing its time between Aquarius and Pisces.
Although we have some continuing and developing themes, the year 2021’s astrology feels quite a bit different. Jupiter and Saturn met in Aquarius near the end of 2020, offering us a new practical and hopeful vision of the future that has moved and motivated us to build something important in the present.
As such, we’re coming into the year with humble confidence and the right tools to make improvements.
The North Node traveling through the sign of Gemini helps us recognize the need to work on how we communicate. Jupiter and Saturn in a fellow Air sign reinforce the importance of getting our message out clearly, productively, and kindly in 2021.
In fact, we’re recognizing where words and messages have failed us in the past, and we’re finding ways to fix, edit, refine, and improve them.
Last year, Jupiter encouraged us to work harder to make things happen. The good news is that we largely found satisfaction and enjoyment in so doing.
This year, Jupiter spends a good part of the time in the sign of Aquarius, and we’re ready and willing to expand our minds, tolerance, and sense of fairness. We do well for ourselves when we consider the needs of others, and we perform at our best when we have freedom of choice and can think outside of the box. We seek social reform and positive, humanitarian action. We value freedom, individuality, fellowship, and group goals and visions.
Last year, Saturn first entered Aquarius on March 21st, began its retrograde on May 11th, 2020, and eventually retreated into Capricorn on July 1st to finish up its transit there. Saturn turned direct again on September 29th, 2020, and then headed into Aquarius once again on December 17th, 2020, not to return to Capricorn for 29 years.
This year, Saturn is in Aquarius all year. Saturn will visit Aquarius until March 2023.
We can look to the Aquarius part of our charts for where we may be focusing our activities, often finding our joy, but also discovering our ambitions and the need to structure, order, organize, and shape up. It’s where we are expanding or improving in some significant manner. There’s a need to refine our approach to these affairs in order to realize these benefits and gains, and with the Fixed Air sign of Aquarius, it’s about improving our connections to others with more organization, control, and practicality without going overboard. Mind you, with Saturn in Aquarius at the same time, we should be finding a balance between expansion and contraction, aiming to recognize which areas of life require a more generous approach (Jupiter) and which areas require a more rule-conscious, conservative approach (Saturn). While Jupiter is in Aquarius in 2021 (up until May 13th, 2021, and then from July 28th to December 28th), it forms a square to Uranus and semi-square to Neptune in January, and a semi-square to Chiron in April, August, and November. Essentially, it doesn’t form particularly promising or supportive aspects to the outer planets, although it does interact nicely with the inner planets as is the case for all longer-term sign transits.
Jupiter’s square to Uranus is edgy, rebellious, and tense, but if we work with it, we might use it to make some exciting changes. Its aspects this year suggest we’re wrestling with our expectations, but Saturn in Aquarius can help ground us.
In fact, Saturn’s concurrent transit of Aquarius throughout the time Jupiter is in the sign will help us simplify, although it can also temper our enthusiasm. Saturn does well in Aquarius, largely because Aquarius is one of the signs it rules.
This is a time for checking in with ourselves and the structures of our lives to see if we’re following the rules and meeting our responsibilities. Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius, and Aries receive stabilizing energy. Taurus, Leo, and Scorpio may initially balk at those things that feel too restrictive. Aquarius gets a bit of both. Cancer, Virgo, and Capricorn don’t understand this energy as well as most others and will need to adjust accordingly.
With Saturn in Aquarius, it’s a time of clearing out the deadwood, prioritizing quality over quantity, simplifying, and turning a critical eye to our social lives, friendships, causes, group associations, happiness goals, involvements, contributions, and associates. It’s a great time for technological advances that improve the community and help us connect more effectively. We seek more realistic plans and goals/dreams, and we have a good sense of both the past and future. Ideally, we’re able to put our egos aside to do what’s best for the collective during this period. Jupiter in Aquarius expands our awareness of our place in the community. We aspire to be more inclusive and just, and we’re opening our minds to progress. Our attitudes and values concerning religion, moral conduct, education, and politics are progressive, visionary, and original.
Still, there can be some inflexibility or rigidity with this position. We can be reactive and rebellious rather than progressive. Especially in January when Jupiter and Uranus form a square, we may lack follow-through, living too much in the mind without enough action. We can also be quite erratic with our output, working only when we feel inspired, which isn’t always practical. We should put a more concerted effort and commitment into putting our bright ideas into action.
We feel more grateful for one another, and at the same time, hold on to a spirit of growth and improvement in 2021. It’s a fantastic period in which to improve our social skills. Teaching, mentoring, guiding, and sharing can be satisfying. We see beyond class, religion, and other labels, and we tend to connect with ideas, beliefs, and practices that have a universal nature.
While our material affairs were a strong focus last year, our concern is more with altruistic, humanitarian causes in 2021. It’s a great time to put our egos aside to help one another advance, improve, and thrive. We care much about individuality, but we’re also very interested in what happens to society or the majority.
While we may have been strong on structure last year, we may have come up a bit short with the imagination and risk-taking attitude that would allow us to innovate. This year is an improvement on this level, although we’re not pushing these things, either.
Jupiter is in Aquarius until May 13th, 2021, and then from July 28th to December 28th. Jupiter is in Pisces from May 13th to July 28th, and then from December 28th forward. Jupiter will complete its transit of Pisces in 2022, but this year, we’re getting a sneak preview. This transit encourages us to give of ourselves and to embrace compassion and imagination. We attract luck and rich life experiences through our intuition, imagination, and compassion. We’re charitable, and we look out for the underdog. We are more idealistic and perhaps less ambitious in a worldly sense, more motivated to give than receive.
We should watch for escapism, bending personal philosophies or morals to suit the situation, deception and self-deception, restlessness and vague discontent, and unwillingness to face problems or negative situations directly.
Health issues in 2021 can more frequently have to do with poor circulation, rheumatism, and problems with calves, ankles, nerves, and the mind. Electrical injuries, cramping in the lower legs, and ankle injuries are also associated with Saturn in Aquarius. Breathing abnormalities may continue this year. Psychological or mental inclinations that could contribute to health problems include erratic health routines/health care and a tendency to detach ourselves emotionally, perhaps too much. A lower-starch diet, breathing exercises, and special attention to air quality may be appropriate.
Uranus in Taurus continues to shake up our attitude towards money and personal possessions, and it’s a time for bold innovations in these areas. We saw this energy in action last year, and more developments are expected in 2021. We can expect changes to what we value on non-material levels as well, and we’re inclined to value ourselves in new ways through the course of this transit that lasts until April 2026. Uranus doesn’t form major harmonious aspects to the outer planets this year, and instead, form squares to Jupiter and Saturn. As such, we’re likely to battle with changing values and changeable money matters.
Eclipses falling along the Gemini-Sagittarius axis continue this year. It began with the Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius in June 2020, the Lunar Eclipse in Gemini in November 2020, and a Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius in December 2020. This set sticks around until December 2021. The North Node entered Gemini last year in May, and we’re called upon to develop more attention to detail and care or tact in our communications.
We need to learn to listen to others so that we discover the value of true communication and exchange and to see both sides of a situation instead of throwing out dogma at others. The challenge continues to be to avoid drawing conclusions before gathering enough facts.
While Venus and Mars both turned retrograde in 2020, complicating love and desire, the apparent backward-moving cycles for these planets do not occur in 2021 until Venus turns retrograde on December 19th in the sign of Capricorn. As such, at the tail-end of 2021, Capricorn areas of our charts require some rethinking.
We enter 2021 recovered from a Mars retrograde cycle. The Aries areas of our charts have gone through some tension, and now we feel more refreshed in the associated life departments.
The areas of our charts where we find Taurus can involve some shake-ups, new thinking and approaches, and radical changes in some cases. The areas of our charts where we find Aquarius involve some lessons and strengthening exercises, and they require simplifying and hard (or smarter) work. Still, we receive boosts and blessings in these areas, and we also begin to see some real growth and improvements in Pisces areas. This doesn’t cancel things out; instead, it boosts the pleasure we derive from our firming up and strengthening actions.
Business and Love Trends in 2021
In business in 2021, as with all other areas, there are different themes working concurrently. Saturn in Aquarius is very concerned with our social structures. Jupiter in Aquarius wants us to embrace the progressive. Later, Jupiter in Pisces encourages us to attend to our needs for gentleness, understanding, and compassion. Uranus encourages us to branch out and consider new and improved or progressive ways of doing business.
While Jupiter asks us to grow, expand, and believe, Saturn asks us to simplify, test, and question.
We should also be approaching money in an entirely new way as Uranus transits Taurus all year. We need to deal with money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge and can be an important business focus or trend.
This Uranus theme continues from last year. In 2020, we saw its abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that may have resulted in a reshuffling of priorities or values. We’re working with these new variables in 2021. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable as our values are changing, in general, related to what we make and own.
Concerning love and relationships, we might consider working together or encouraging one another’s long-term goals and ambitions to improve our connections. We’re attracted to people who are progressive, visionary, detached, friendly, and perhaps erratic or trail-blazing. The platonic elements of love relationships become far more important in our minds in 2021.
There’s a revolution happening with Uranus in Taurus, too, and it’s about approaching sexuality and gratification differently. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued and we are embracing a new-age view of the feminine. Women’s “roles” in relationships are revolutionizing this year and in coming years.
In a general sense, friendship and community matters overshadow romantic matters. Nevertheless, there can be some tests to friendships, which can ultimately strengthen those relationships with strong foundations. Long-term compatibility and shared visions or friendships are factors we take into consideration more than usual.
We have a stronger need for communication, freedom, and a feeling of camaraderie in our relationships. Giving our existing partners room to breathe is thus wise. Smothering a partner is not going to be well-received. Tolerance and acceptance themes are reinforced. While Jupiter is in Pisces, we have a stronger belief in a higher power.
We need to work on self-confidence, body image, and our relationship with our independence. Chiron in Aries is certainly a me-oriented transit, but it’s a vital one if we want to bring our whole selves into a relationship.
Taking more interest in one another’s day-to-day lives, reaching out regularly, and extending gestures that show we care or that we listen can be particularly strengthening in 2021. Read more about the general trends expected in love and relationships in 2021.

Where we find Aquarius in our charts, we’re firming up, refining, and perfecting in 2021, but we’re also discovering more joy and opportunity this year. Saturn fixes, balances, and gives us lessons whichever sign, house, or point it visits. Jupiter teaches too, but uses a far different approach, aiming to open us up and fill us with faith and courage to explore and discover.
Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto play their parts, too, of course, as do the inner planets and luminaries on a smaller scale, and my yearly horoscopes (overviews of which are below), monthly horoscopes, and daily horoscopes interpret their roles in the solar charts of each sign.

New Moon in Capricorn on January 13th
This New Moon aligns closely with Pluto. It occurs at the time of a Uranus station, just before it turns direct. Otherwise, all major planets are direct. We’re in good shape for a determined focus on Capricorn-ruled areas of our charts/lives.
Full Moon in Leo on January 28th
The Sun is between Jupiter and Saturn and quite tightly aligned with Jupiter at the time of this Full Moon. This lunation forms a challenging square with Mars and Uranus. (Saturn is applying to a square to Uranus, while both Jupiter and Mars are separating from their conjunctions). All major bodies are direct!
New Moon in Aquarius on February 11th
At the time of this wonderful New Moon, the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn are all in the sign of Aquarius!
Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter are conjunct around the time of this New Moon, also in Aquarius but only very widely conjunct the New Moon. This New Moon is square Mars. Major planets on one side of the chart within two planets forming a trine (a wedge pattern) suggesting a great concentration of focus. It can be difficult to see the other side of the coin, but it’s a good time to put effort into something special. It’s time to investigate and explore new ideas, trends, and technologies.
This is a powerful time for focusing on a special project. We should watch for pushing something too hard, however. Consider that Mercury is retrograde at this time.

This lunation harmonizes with Uranus. All major bodies are direct!
New Moon in Pisces on March 13th
This New Moon aligns with Venus and Neptune and harmonizes with Pluto. A dreamy, supportive New Moon with all major bodies direct.
Full Moon in Libra on March 28th
The Sun aligns with Venus and this lunation harmonizes with Saturn. The Full Moon in Libra awakens us to our feelings, particularly about relationships and social exchanges. While it’s an emotional time and the focus is on our affections, we recognize the practical side of getting along or find practical ways to improve our relationships. All major bodies are direct.
New Moon in Aries on April 11th
This New Moon in Aries is a fresh time of new beginnings and initiative. All major planets are direct! This lunation is aligned with Venus but square Pluto. Our personal plans and ambitions can feel at odds, causing some tension, but also a strong desire to start fresh.
Full Moon in Scorpio on April 26th
This Full Moon occurs with the Sun is aligning with Uranus, but both the Sun and Moon are square Saturn. We can feel a strong need to change, but we feel blocked.
New Moon in Taurus on May 11th
Harmonizes with Neptune and Pluto.
Full Moon Eclipse in Sagittarius on May 26th
A Honey Moon umbral lunar eclipse. This eclipse is square Jupiter. This Lunar Eclipse can have a way of bringing dysfunctional areas of our life to our attention! Plans blossom. We should watch for exaggeration, but it’s important to note the emotions that emerge now.
New Moon Solar Eclipse in Gemini on June 10th
New Moon/Solar Eclipse in Gemini: June 10, 2021
This annular Solar Eclipse aligns with retrograde Mercury AND squares Neptune, suggesting some wrestling with perceptions and expectations. It’s hard to see our path, but our discomfort with the past can be very real now, motivating new beginnings.
Full Moon in Capricorn on June 24th
The Buck Moon. This one is a little scattered, but it harmonizes with Jupiter and feels good.
New Moon in Cancer on July 9th
Widely opposite Pluto and harmonizing with Neptune. Venus is applying to a conjunction to Mars in Leo. We’re feeling confident and ready to create.
Full Moon in Aquarius on July 23rd
The Sturgeon Moon. The Moon can feel a little stuck as it’s between Pluto and Saturn. Otherwise, it’s a period of discovering our need for others or for more community involvement.
New Moon in Leo on August 8th
This New Moon is square Uranus. We may need to watch for rebellious, abrupt moves.
Full Moon in Aquarius on August 22nd
The Blue Moon. It’s the second Full Moon in Aquarius this year, and it occurs in the last degree of the sign, pointing to a turning point.
New Moon in Virgo on September 6th
Widely opposite Neptune, but closely (partile) trine Uranus. Mars is trine Pluto.
Full Moon in Pisces on September 20th
This Harvest Moon harmonizes with Pluto. The Moon is widely conjunct to Neptune, and the Sun is applying to a conjunction to Mars.
New Moon in Libra on October 6th
This New Moon is tightly (partile) conjunct Mars and quincunx Uranus.
Full Moon in Aries on October 20th
The Hunter’s Moon. The Sun aligns with Aries’ ruler, Mars, and forms a square to Mars. Tense! The lunation harmonizes with Jupiter.
New Moon in Scorpio on November 4th
This lunation tightly opposes (partile) Uranus and more loosely squares Saturn. Intimate relationships need a new approach, and we can see this more clearly now, but our interactions are on the volatile side.
Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse in Taurus on November 19th
This umbral Lunar Eclipse, the Frost Moon, harmonizes with Pluto and squares Jupiter. It’s the first in a set of eclipses that occur along the Taurus-Scorpio axis (the last will happen in October 2023).
New Moon/Solar Eclipse (Total) in Sagittarius on December 4, 2021
New Moon/Total Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius on December 4th
This total Solar Eclipse is conjunct Mercury and sextile Saturn.
We seek to embrace new experiences or adventures. This eclipse is the final one in the Gemini-Sagittarius eclipse set that began mid-2020, and big decisions or major new beginnings can ensue.
Full Moon in Gemini on December 18th
This Cold Moon harmonizes closely with Jupiter. It’s a good time to see progress or a turning point on recent new beginnings.
2021 Horoscope Overviews for Each Sign

Aries
The year 2021 brings a strong focus on your social life, networks, communication skills, and pet causes, dear Aries. This list includes your business goals or income for those in business for themselves. Team efforts or collaboration are in the spotlight.
Even so, you’re reorganizing and changing things up so that you can improve your friendships and connections–or your feeling of connectedness, in general. It’s about making room for connections, relationships, and projects that empower you rather than hold you back.
In a sense, you’re going through a clean-up or a period of fine-tuning in your social life so that you can live more authentically. The benefits of this reset are great, even if they’re not immediately apparent.
Your connections and networks can lead to meaningful new goals in 2021, or they can take you on a beneficial path. Friends can be of practical help to you. New long-term initiatives and exciting causes and missions are likely to emerge.
While there remains some pressure on your sector of career, reputation, accountability, and responsibility, there is far less of it in 2021. This year, you’re appreciated for how well you get along with others more than how you’re performing or what you’re accomplishing. This is a forward-moving, optimistic time, even if there will be times when you’re a little overscheduled in your social world.
It remains important to bring specialized focus to getting the career that truly suits you and for pushing your practical and professional interests forward. The good news is that you feel less restricted in these areas.
Eclipses encourage you to pay special attention to how you communicate, connect, and present your ideas. Polishing these things will go a long way towards your happiness and fulfillment. This can also be a time for boosting a relationship with a sibling, classmate, or neighbor. More involvement and improvement figure strongly.
Mars, your ruler, spent the second half of last year in your sign. Its extended stay was due to a retrograde cycle. While it may have left you feeling sluggish or hesitant, ideally, you’ve learned a lot about what makes you tick. You begin 2021 ready and willing to right your path, understand your desires, and confident about achieving your goals.
The emphasis is on more meaningful, streamlined, or business relationships in 2021. You’re taking your associations and friendships more seriously until March 2023. It’s a fabulous time, in fact, for forming a reliable connection or for quality business networking. With Saturn in supportive aspect to your sign, too, it’s a time of feeling more like you are on solid ground.
Financial ups and downs or uncertainties this year ultimately lead you to discover unique and creative ways to make and manage money.
Chiron continues its transit of your sign this year. Chiron illuminates the wounds you have accumulated over the years with regards to your self-esteem, which isn’t always comfortable. However, you get the chance to work on these issues and find ways to heal them. Openness to the process is crucial.
You’re far more serious about your ideals and causes, and you’re especially drawn to people who are like-minded–in fact, differences in values or opinions can be more glaring. You may feel that you have little time for friendships or associations that seem to distract you or that don’t feel right or productive. Connections formed this year can be quite permanent, or at least, long-standing–the “real deal!”
In many ways, 2021 is about learning to live your truth, and as you do, you feel healthier and more comfortable with yourself. Friendships benefit. You care more about who you have in your corner.

Taurus
The spotlight is turning to your career or life path goals in 2021, dear Taurus, and you’re ready to build or rebuild. You are doing your professional and public life quite differently, and you are capable of solid success.
It’s very appropriate to push your career forward this year and to put more of yourself into your work. The extra effort will be rewarded. However, it’s best to do so at a deliberate, steady pace.
Rule-breaking Uranus continues to transit your sign, encouraging a different approach to your life, particularly on a personal level. You could be presenting yourself in new ways with this exciting although somewhat erratic transit.
You’re known for your rootedness and desire for peace and calm, but with electric Uranus transiting your sign again this year, you’re surprising people. It’s a good idea to distinguish between rebellious behavior and authentic self-expression. Make sure you’re making choices for yourself instead of only reacting to others or your situation. Make it a mission to recognize your needs for calm and detox from time to time.
Jupiter and Saturn have moved to your sector of career and reputation. Certainly, these transits can bring more pressure to your life, particularly on public or professional levels, but also the potential for substantial rewards.
These transits bring your responsibilities to the “outside world” to light, and at times, to the test. It’s a pivotal period for you regarding the structures you’ve built and your career or reputation. This can be a time of harvest on career fronts, achievement, recognition, and new responsibilities. Others are taking you more seriously, which can be rewarding, but at times stressful. It can also be a time when poor past decisions come to light. It’s best to follow the rules and get organized during this significant transit.
This can very well mark a career peak or turning point. It can be a time to step up to the plate and take responsibility or take the lead and manage your life more fully.
There has been some heaviness connected with thinking, belief systems, attitudes, travel, or education, and some of this pressure is releasing in 2021.
You are moving towards a more authentic life path, and detachment from some aspects of your past is necessary. Fortunately, you often feel fresher, more energetic, or more expressive this year.
The year involves you more intensely with your work or status and material goals. Career winds are shifting!
Ideally, you begin 2021 knowing yourself a little better after Mars spent the second half of last year in your privacy sector. On January 6th, Mars enters your sign. Mars in Taurus (from January 6-March 3) is a time of increased vitality, courage, energy, and independence. Use this time well!
From mid-May through to the last week of July, you’re in a fine position with friendships and acquaintances or your social life, in general. You’re likely to come out of your shell more often, connecting with others through networks or with associates and groups to your benefit.
Venus, your ruler, turns retrograde every eighteen months or so, and in 2021, it begins its retrograde on December 19th. It can be a time of slowing down and reassessing some of your recent circumstances or decisions. Rest, reflect, and reconsider during this phase.
Special attention to your income, resources, valuables, and natural talents can be most important in 2021. Eclipses are encouraging you to get your assets sorted and to grow more comfortable with your talents. Near the end of the year, a new set of eclipses in your sign begins, setting a theme for the next two years when it will develop further. Gemini
Energies in 2021 are largely more harmonious with your sign, dear Gemini. Jupiter and Saturn are encouraging you to change your outlook and enrich your experiences. It’s a powerful time for special attention to courses or training, as well as for your voice! People are very interested in what you have to share.
You’ve recently begun a trend in which you’re firming up (and perhaps putting to the test) your beliefs or educational pursuits. Your attitude, outlook, and worldview are evolving in 2021!
Life begins to feel more stable and directed, and your increased self-awareness puts you in a better decision-making position. You’ve been building towards this for some time, and clarity is now with you.
Friendship and happiness goals went through an intense rethink last year, and you should begin 2021 with a far stronger feel for these areas of life. Continued self-discovery is in the cards with eclipses and the North Node in your sign this year. Lessons about your independence and relationship needs are ongoing and highly revealing!
A Solar Eclipse in your sign in June challenges you to find yourself and your independence, initiative, and personal courage. It’s time to take care of yourself and discover your real needs and desires.

Life departments ruled by Virgo in our charts are mostly coasting along. There is long-term, ongoing “up in the air” energy in the Pisces part of our charts that often seems to undercut Virgo areas. This is not new, but there can be some help on its way when Jupiter is in Pisces. Otherwise, Virgo areas are gently encouraged to upgrade, update, and make progress.
Life departments ruled by Libra in our charts were heavily hit last year. While there remain some challenges in these areas of life, it’s a big improvement in 2021.
The areas of our charts where we find Aquarius involve some lessons and strengthening exercises, and they require simplifying and hard (or smarter) work. Still, we receive boosts and blessings in these areas. This doesn’t cancel things out; instead, it boosts the pleasure we derive from our firming up and strengthening actions.
We begin to see some real growth and improvements in Pisces areas. In these life departments, we’ve been procrastinating, waiting, or feeling up in the air at times, while at other times, we feel inspired. We’ll begin to realize some of our dreams in these areas in 2021 and, more so, in 2022.
