First Quarter Moon
The First Quarter MOON occurs on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025, 12:21 PM EDT.
On Wednesday, the First Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Scorpio forms a square with the Moon in Aquarius.
There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
A First Quarter Moon can be a time of some stress, clashing, and discord, but also of great energy, motivation, and growth. We’re more ambitious and competitive. Things are beginning to take off or turn a corner. This is a time when we want to get something going, but we may not yet know the next step or the exact direction we want to take.
While we should probably watch for overconfidence or overshooting, it’s a good idea to use the stress generated now to make important changes.
The First Quarter Moon Chart:
This phase of the Moon occurs at 6 degrees and 30 minutes of Aquarius square the Sun at the same degree of Scorpio, affecting planets at approximately 5 to 9 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) the most.
NEXT WEEK: The next moon phase will occur next week, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, 8:19 AM EST, when the Full Moon will occur.

This week: The Sun is in Scorpio; Mercury is in Scorpio until the 29th, when it enters Sagittarius; Venus is in Libra; Mars is in Scorpio.
The Sun is in Scorpio from October 22-November 21. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire.” Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio–we want to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair.
Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.
We are more likely to prosper through strategy and knowing the value of keeping some things to ourselves at the right times. Efforts to repurpose, recycle, salvage, and transform can be successful. We’re especially successful at organizing, researching, investigating, and analyzing.
While we can be quite controlled with effort, there is some inclination to extremism. We can be drawn to challenges and crises, and we feel compelled to heal, fix, and direct or manage.
Mercury is in Scorpio from October 6-29 and later, from November 18-December 11 [Mercury transits Scorpio in two parts this year due to Mercury’s retrograde from November 9-29 that begins in Sagittarius and ends in Scorpio]. When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and arrive at reasonable solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover.
We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried, the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations.
Scorpio is exceptionally sharp, profound, and analytical yet also intuitive. Thinking is inclined to be one-track-minded, focused, and even obsessive.
Mercury-in-Scorpio isn’t shocked by much, or at least keeps its cool even if surprised. During this cycle, our approach is psychological when analyzing, deciding, and studying or observing. We’re not afraid to go places mentally. We get to the heart of a matter or to the bottom line very quickly, usually through instinct. Our resourcefulness and strategy stand out. We’re competitive.
We can be intrigued by motives and secrets or taboos. It’s not easy to take instruction or someone’s word for it–we have to experience it ourselves to draw conclusions. This position of Mercury is one of the most persuasive. It’s an excellent time to research, investigate, troubleshoot, and work on hunches. If left to observe on our own, we do our best thinking, seeking the hidden layers of a situation.
Mercury is in Sagittarius from October 29-November 18 and later, from December 11, 2025-January 1, 2026 [Mercury transits Sagittarius in two parts this year due to Mercury’s retrograde from November 9-29 that begins in Sagittarius and ends in Scorpio]. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. We seek ideals, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.
We’re more inclined to ask questions and seek answers during this forward-looking cycle. We might often wax philosophical, and we enjoy wrapping our minds around new concepts and ideas. Still, the details are not as interesting to us now, as we prefer to envision the big picture.
On the downside, we can be inconsistent and lack attention to details. While frank and open, we can also be tactless during this period. We’re generous with our communications and input, and we’re humorous and friendly at this time.
Venus is in Libra from October 13-November 6. We favor charm over assertiveness to get what we want during this cycle. Usually quite willing to negotiate and compromise, we can be very obliging with others. We’re also very idealistic about love, and we seek intellectual peers. Although Venus in Libra is very relationship-focused, there is an air of cool detachment to this energy. We prefer things are done the “right” way, and aggressive or uncouth behavior turns us off.
The shadow expression of this position includes over-dependence and superficiality. To avoid unpleasant situations, we could easily gloss over deeper issues at play in our relationships. It’s probably best to avoid the trap of acquiescing to partners while privately resenting the fact or thinking ourselves martyrs for doing so.
While Venus is in Libra, we are more artistically inclined or seek balance in our personal environment. This cycle is excellent for promoting cooperation, harmony, mutually beneficial connections, and fairness. We are gentle but firm, and we’re skilled at mediation.
We’re more likely to prosper during this cycle in partnership, through one-to-one associations, such as counseling, or in fields related to harmony, relationships, beauty, design, and the law. We’re not fond of out-and-out competition or aggressive pursuit, preferring win-win situations, hands down. We attract things to us and appeal to others gently and kindly. Equality and politeness are important now, and we despise hurting others’ feelings.
Mars is in Scorpio from September 22-November 4. In Scorpio, Mars is driven and focused on getting what it wants. We are persevering, single-minded, and strong. The desire to experience our emotional depths, as well as the urge to penetrate the surface of life in order to explore deeper levels of existence, is powerful. We are fascinated with what others tend to repress, and are drawn to experiencing and understanding these things.
We are less inclined to avoid important issues now. In some ways, we are attracted to crisis, as we see crisis as transformative and emotionally exciting. We would rather feel extreme emotions than nothing at all, as mediocrity or the “middle road” is felt to be unsatisfying.

Jupiter is in Cancer.
Jupiter began its transit of Cancer on June 9th, 2025, and will continue its visit to the sign until June 30th, 2026. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Cancer.

Saturn is in Pisces. Saturn was in Aries from May 24th, 2025 to September 1st, 2025, and will be in Aries again from February 13th, 2026, to April 12th, 2028. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aries. Saturn isn’t yet completely done with its transit of Pisces. Saturn transits Pisces from March 7th, 2023 until May 24th, 2025, and currently, from Sep 1st, 2025, to Feb 13th, 2026. Uranus is in Gemini.
Uranus is in Gemini from July 7th to November 7th, 2025, from April 25, 2026, to August 3, 2032, and then from December 12, 2032, to May 22, 2033. Read about Uranus in Gemini in its calendar page.
Uranus will have more work to do in the sign of Taurus from November 7th, 2025, to April 25th, 2026. Uranus began in Taurus in 2018/2019. During this cycle, we approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

Pluto is in Aquarius. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Note that Pluto finally completed its journey through Capricorn on November 19th, 2024, from which time Pluto stays in Aquarius for many years to come.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Libra from October 13 to November 6.

We’re not fond of out-and-out competition or aggressive pursuit, preferring win-win situations, hands down. We attract things to us and appeal to others gently and kindly. Equality and politeness are important now, and we despise hurting others’ feelings.
This week: On Sunday, we can be a bit flighty with one another, unsure whether we want to be close to someone or free from ties temporarily.
On Saturday, November 1st, we can find several little things wrong with our relationships, or there can be some awkward energy in our interactions. In fact, we can be commitment-phobic. We could be questioning our situation or others. However, our interactions can open up soft spots or trigger sensitive issues, which can help us understand ourselves and others more deeply. It’s a time for identifying vulnerable areas, perhaps through controversy or painful experiences and truths.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Libra As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on a greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty – these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.
Venus parallel Saturn October 23-24. We may express our affection sparingly, but also responsibly and in practical ways. Relationships begun under this influence often feel burdensome over time, but they may last longer than most.
Venus sesquiquadrate Uranus October 25-26. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
Venus opposition Chiron November 1-2. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves. Our relationships may open up some inner wound.
Venus square Jupiter November 2. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships. As well, take what your partner says with a grain of salt. There is no malicious intent involved, but feelings of elation can cloud our judgment, and we can promise more than we can deliver.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, October 26th, from 12:42 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 12:54 PM EDT.
VOC on Tuesday, October 28th, from 11:38 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 11:55 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, October 31st, from 2:15 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Pisces at 7:46 AM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waxing this week, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week on Tuesday, October 28th, from approximately 3:00 PM to 11:35 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Capricorn.

OCTOBER 26
With a Venus-Uranus sesquiquadrate very early today, we can feel discontent with our current pleasures or pastimes. It’s best to tame restlessness or avoid abrupt moves while considering our needs for change and growth. The Moon continues its transit of spirited Sagittarius until 12:54 PM EDT, although its squares to Saturn and Neptune indicate some resistance to wholeheartedly embracing our explorations. The Moon in Capricorn from 12:54 PM forward is earthy, practical, and wise. This Moon inspires a more orderly approach to our world as the day advances. The Moon’s sextile to the Sun this evening can help us find satisfying and beneficial channels for self-expression and release of emotions.
The Moon is void today from 12:42 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 12:54 PM EDT.
OCTOBER 27
Mars forms a quincunx with Chiron midday, and we may doubt the effectiveness of our assertions or efforts to pursue what we want, potentially leading to passive-aggressive behavior, defensiveness, or frustration. We can find it challenging to be both assertive and sensitive now, seeing-sawing between the two. It can also be difficult to assert ourselves without provoking, annoying, or concerning others. The trick is to find ways to combine both sensitivity and directness instead of narrowing our choices to either/or.
However, as the day progresses, the influence of a Mars-Jupiter trine comes into stronger play, and our confidence, faith, and enthusiasm soar. Our desire for freedom may be equally strong. We are more decisive and enterprising under this transit. It’s a great time to think up an exciting new plan or challenge. Something moves us to take action to better our lives. We possess the willpower, vigor, and energy necessary to achieve our goals. Positive attitudes and expectations seem to create winning situations, and we can enjoy friendly competition now.
OCTOBER 28
Mars perfects its trine with Jupiter very early today, boosting our desire to take action and make improvements. However, the day is strongly influenced by an impending Mercury-Neptune trine, exact early tomorrow. Especially as the day advances, this transit inspires us to present our ideas and information in creative ways. We’re more curious about mysteries and illusions, and we’re better at seeing potentials and possibilities. With this transit, we readily tune into and respond to our hunches. It encourages us to tap into our imagination. We may easily sense others’ thoughts and feelings, and our words, musings, and ideas can be more imaginative and colorful, subtle, or creative. We experience a sense of knowing and understanding with minimal explanation or instruction. While we may not be direct or definite under this influence, we see the way around obstacles. This transit favors photography, the arts, poetry, fiction, spirituality, advertising, and promotion. It occurs near the very end of the signs, pointing to some powerful discoveries and understanding.
The Moon spends most of the day in Capricorn, however, helping ground us. It heads into Aquarius at 11:55 PM EDT.
The Moon is void from 11:38 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Neptune), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 11:55 PM EDT.
OCTOBER 29
Mercury forms a trine to Neptune early today in the final degree of Scorpio and Pisces, respectively. However, Mercury enters Sagittarius today, and then it opposes Uranus. Life can feel a bit chaotic with different views of a situation and contrary opinions standing out. Our understanding of a matter does a one-eighty. The Mercury-Uranus opposition can produce mental tension, miscommunication, changes of mind or plans, and resistance to ideas. These, however, can lead to new insights if we’re open to them. We can be confrontational or controversial. As such, it may not be the best time to present an argument or an important idea, but friction can challenge us to learn more about our own minds and opinions. Epiphanies and unusual insights can occur now, or surprising news might arrive that turns our perception of a situation on its head.
Mercury will transit Sagittarius for a longer time than usual and in two steps due to Mercury’s upcoming retrograde cycle (from November 9th to the 29th). The first step is from today until November 18th, and the second step will happen from December 11th, 2025, until January 1st, 2026. In between these dates, Mercury will return to the sign of Scorpio while retrograde, turn direct, and then finish its transit of the sign. Mercury in Sagittarius is curious, questioning, and brave with thoughts and ideas. Our thinking is optimistic, and our faith increases. However, we are not always very precise or detail-oriented during this cycle.
While Mercury changing signs and opposing Uranus can produce some tension, particularly on mental levels, today’s Mars-Saturn trine is stabilizing. With this influence, we value endurance and perseverance. Carefully picking and choosing our activities comes naturally now. Still, we feel more productive, directed, and purposeful. A slow, steady, methodical approach works best under this influence. If we can tune out the distractions, we get the job done, and we’re thorough! This trine favors discipline, moderation, tradition, pacing ourselves, temperance, and realism.
OCTOBER 30
OCTOBER 31
The Moon is void from 2:15 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Pisces at 7:46 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
![]()
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
![]()
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
![]()
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
![]()
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Scorpio Who owes what, who owns what, and who decides these things: these are some of the major issues for you at the dawn of the cycle that now begins in your life. The only thing we really own is our consciousness; the only master who is never overthrown is oneself. These are lessons best learned early in this cycle. Master them, and you master everything. Dodge these issues, and the great strength that could be yours will remain just out of reach. Understanding inner motivations, seeing through to the core: that’s your real path of power and enlightenment now.
Mercury in Scorpio A pronounced curiosity about taboos and mysteries plays a greater part in your life now. Your mind is on cutting through the nonessentials and penetrating to the core is where your mind is at now; you want to know who (or what) pulls the strings. Sex, taxes, investments, and others of life’s most compelling phenomena may captivate your interest more than ever before.
Mercury in Sagittarius A time of expanding your mental horizons is at hand. Religion, philosophy, law, and education are some of the things that may have special importance for you now. Being in touch with faraway people and places satisfies an intellectual yearning – curiosity will take you anywhere and maybe everywhere.
Mars in Scorpio Tear it down and build it up again, reach in and pluck out the offending element: that’s what the new cycle you have entered is like. Power becomes a compelling idea, perhaps even an aphrodisiac – and you’ve got a stronger than usual supply of it now. Use it, don’t abuse it – or you might find that it’s a two-edged sword!
Jupiter in Cancer Taking care of yourself and all that’s yours becomes a high priority in your life now. Security, setting down roots, establishing your ties with the past: these things are among the articles of faith that guide you. This is often a sign of growth in all things connected with family and property (such as real estate).
Saturn in Pisces Making peace with the past, coming to terms with karmic debts: these are some of the issues that confront you as a new phase begins in your life. Failure to face these things can cause setbacks and put obstacles in your path. Learn to look beyond the narrowly personal and selfish or you’ll get in over your head.
Uranus in Gemini New ideas, new input, and new ways of exchanging these things with others – all these and more become increasingly important factor in your life now, as you enter into a new phase. This is a period of enhanced mental activity, a nonstop stream of consciousness, of trying out new concepts and perspectives.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
