First Quarter Moon
The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurred last Saturday, November 21st, 2020, at 11:45 PM EST.
Last Saturday, November 21st, a First Quarter Moon occurred as the Sun in Sagittarius formed a square with the Moon in Pisces. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occured at 0 degrees and 20 minutes of Pisces square the Sun at 0 degrees and 20 minutes of Sagittarius, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 28 to 30 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) and approximately 0 to 2 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.
Upcoming: A Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Gemini will occur next week: on Monday, November 30, 2020.

This week: The Sun is in Sagittarius; Mercury is in Scorpio; Venus is in Scorpio; Mars is in Aries.
The Sun is in Sagittarius from November 21-December 21. With the Sun in Sagittarius, our focus shifts from the need for an intimate connection with a person and with ourselves, to the desire to reach out to the world and connect with something larger than ourselves. While the Sun moves through this fiery, mutable sign, we can take steps to increase our understanding and awareness of the world around us. We are more able to muster up the courage to expand our horizons and branch out into new ways of thinking. We can gain more confidence and optimism by focusing on the “big picture” as we move away from our focus on the details of mundane existence. Although we may be prone to overdoing our expectations, we have the opportunity to nurture our faith, hope, and vision under this influence.
Mercury is in Scorpio from September 27-October 27 and November 10-December 1. [Mercury spends longer than usual in Scorpio due to Mercury’s retrograde from October 13-November 3, although this Rx was partially spent in the sign Libra.] When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and to arrive at fair solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover. We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations. Scorpio is extremely sharp, profound, and analytical. Thinking is inclined to be one-track minded, focused, and even obsessive.
Venus is in Scorpio from November 21-December 15. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special–contact that breaks the taboos, that is extreme and intense, and that is unforgettable. This is a highly emotional position for Venus. It is passionate, sensual, and intense energy. Our relationships are immensely important to us, and we may even feel that they consume us. In fact, we tend to want to be consumed by them! Our drive is toward intense closeness, but blind faith in our partners is extremely hard for us now. Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up our own power to others are strong. Scorpio is an “all or nothing” energy, and relationships tend to be somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as a result. Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel us to create crises in order to feel alive and vital.
Mars is in Aries from June 27, 2020, to January 6, 2021. [This is longer than usual due to the retrograde of Mars from September 9-November 13, 2020.] Mars feels at home in one of the signs that it rules, Aries, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident. Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.
Jupiter entered Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
Saturn has returned to the sign of Capricorn in retrograde motion (early July). In 2020, Saturn divides its time between the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here. Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and then later, from December 17, 2020, to March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus transits Taurus May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
If a relationship becomes too settled or predictable, we may crave more intensity and catalytic experience.
Jealousies, fears of betrayal, and power games are the shadow side of Venus in Scorpio. We may easily become obsessed with a fear that our partners might be betraying us, or that they are not as consumed and dedicated to the relationship as us. This can lead us to try to uncover the “truth,” reading too many negative possibilities in our partners’ actions and words.
This week: This week doesn’t hold particularly strong aspects for relating. On Monday, the 23rd, there can be some tendencies to project our fantasies, whether these are positive or negative, onto others or relationships. Watch for deception and self-deception now. On Wednesday, we can feel on the fence or undecided. It’s not an ideal time for a full-on expression of feelings. Thursday and Friday, we can feel torn between wanting our freedom and independence and craving company. We can be thrown off-center by feelings or revelations in our relationships.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Scorpio This is way beyond love, all the way to obsession – that’s the nature of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. We’re not talking just lukewarm WANT here; we’re talking red-hot GOT TO HAVE! Passion, jealousy, possession: these are the kinds of experiences that can flow from the intensity that courses through you at one level or another now – voracious.
Venus square Saturn November 18-19. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune November 23. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus quincunx Chiron November 25. There may be vague feelings of discontent in relationships; or a choice that needs to be made regarding personal relationships, money, or possessions. Insecurity involving others might make it awkward for us to express our affections naturally or flowingly.
Venus opposition Uranus November 26-27. Not a good time to start relationships. Independence is the reigning need. Some fickleness. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness.
Venus contra-parallel Uranus November 29-30. Questions of freedom, change, specialness, and experimentation are raised in our relationships.
Venus trine Neptune December 4-5. We perceive romantic situations as if they were “designed” just for us. A magical, romantic time. The pleasures of life are experienced fully. Romance is highly favored. We see the very best in people now, and this eases our interactions and takes the pressure off in personal relationships.
Venus quincunx Mars December 5-6. When we attempt to be friendly, we seem to miss the mark. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging. Our romantic sensibilities and our desires are at odds with one another, and problems (especially misunderstandings) in romantic and sexual relationships may result. This is a less-than-ideal transit under which to begin a new relationship.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Tuesday, November 24th, from 5:44 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries at 10:04 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, November 26th, from 6:46 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Taurus at 10:43 PM EST.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waxing this week, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs on Sunday, November 22nd, from approximately 12:45 AM EST, until Tuesday, November 24th, at approximately 5:40 AM EST, while the Moon is in Pisces.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun sesquiquadrate Mars. Circumstances spur us into action. Aggressiveness and conflicts are possible now. As long as we channel the excess energy constructively, instead of wasting our time arguing, we can accomplish much.
Mercury quincunx Mars. What we do and what we think or say are different. Instead of listening to what others have to say, we end up interrupting them and making assumptions. This is not a good day to make important decisions, as our thinking simply isn’t clear.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it’s wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. Take care with legal, financial, and social involvements, contracts, or formal agreements under this dreamy influence.
Mercury trine Neptune. Imagination and intuition run high, and are involved in decisions made today. We are in the right place at the right time. We may easily sense the thoughts and feelings of others. We express ourselves with subtle flair. Favors photography, the arts, poetry, fiction, spirituality, advertising, and promotion.
Mercury sesquiquadrate Chiron. Communications may be careless, hurtful or perceived as hurtful under this influence. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. There may be impatience with rules, worry or guilty feelings, and conflicting viewpoints now.
Venus quincunx Chiron. There may be vague feelings of discontent in relationships; or a choice that needs to be made regarding personal relationships, money, or possessions. Insecurity involving others might make it awkward for us to express our affections naturally or flowingly.
Sun trine Chiron. A sense of purpose or a “mission” is with us now, increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong. Problem solving is favored.
Mercury sextile Pluto. We possess more insight and psychological understanding than usual. We are willing to look beyond the surface of things and investigate further. Perhaps more importantly, we are more patient and strategic in our decision-making.
Venus opposition Uranus. Sudden attractions that may not last come under this influence. Similarly, impulsive attractions to material items that later prove to be unappealing occur now. This is not a good time to start a new relationship nor for any significant financial undertaking. Values and tastes may clash, and group activities may suffer as a result. Impulsive attractions to both people and material goods can lead us astray. Avoid impulse buys at this time. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness are probable in romantic relationships. We may not see eye to eye, and we might be taken off guard by unexpected events. This is not a favorable aspect for beauty treatments because they could have unexpected results. We may struggle with freedom versus intimacy issues at this time. It’s wise to hold off on decision-making with regards to finances and relationships. However, if we can separate rebellion from a sincere need for change, we might open ourselves up to new ways of dealing with others.
Mercury sextile Jupiter. Positive thinking, new insights, and cooperation are themes now. This influence favors short trips, writing, teaching, studying, submitting applications and forms, test taking, and making diagnoses and observations. This is a time when we more readily exercise good judgment, take a more philosophical approach to thinking, and are more open to learning.

NOVEMBER 22
The Sun and Mercury form minor challenging aspects to Mars this morning, pointing to the potential for too-quick judgments, statements, and decisions. We might be anxious to put something behind us, rushing decisions in the process. Instead of listening to what others have to say, we may end up interrupting them and making assumptions. These aspects produce some instigating, tense, or impatient elements to the morning. We might crave action but may not know where we want to direct this energy. Without a plan or direction, arguments or impatience can follow. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Pisces, however, and it becomes easier to go with the flow as the day advances. We’re more inclined to nurture and support one another.
NOVEMBER 23
A Neptune/Pisces theme quite dominates today’s energies. The Moon spends the day in Pisces, aligning with Neptune and harmonizing with Mercury, Pluto, and Jupiter. This Moon awakens our need for spiritual refreshment or escape of sorts. Ideally, this is a time for decompressing, winding down, and tapping into our intuition. We’re easily touched and swayed. Venus forms a minor square to Neptune, and Mercury forms a trine to the planet. We should avoid glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and people if making important decisions. However, we’re tapping into our imagination and more readily work on hunches. We may easily sense others’ thoughts and feelings, and our words, musings, and ideas can be more imaginative and colorful, subtle, or creative. We experience a sense of knowing and understanding with minimal explanation or instruction. The day’s energies inspire fantasy and imagination. While we may not be direct, we see the way around obstacles. Today is strong for slowing down and taking things in.
NOVEMBER 24
The Moon continues its transit of Pisces until it moves into Aries at 10:04 AM EST. The Pisces Moon is compassionate and spiritual, generally encouraging an intuitive approach to the day. The Moon in Aries prompts the desire to initiate or start fresh. It’s typically bold and ready to take action, although sometimes impatient. We seek a fresh start now, and we’re quick to let go of the past–we want to start fresh or come first. We can feel particularly hopeful and enthusiastic in the hours surrounding the Moon’s trine to the Sagittarius Sun this afternoon. We can enjoy increased clarity derived from a feeling that what we want and what we need are in harmony. We are more able to cooperate with others under this influence. The Moon’s alignment with Chiron this evening can pull up the need to deal with unresolved emotional matters. It’s a good time to explore our feelings about what it means to us to win or come first.
The void Moon occurs from 5:44 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries at 10:04 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 25
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Aries, aligning with Aries ruler, Mars, this evening. This transit awakens emotional desire and stimulates some level of urgency. We can be very quick (possibly too fast) to respond and react. An idea or feeling can get us going – all worked up and ready to take action! This morning, however, Mercury and Venus form minor challenging aspects with Chiron, and insecurity might make it awkward for us to express ourselves or our affections naturally or flowingly. There could be feelings of discontent temporarily. The energies of the second half of the day are far more direct and straightforward.
NOVEMBER 26
The Moon spends much of the day in the sign of pioneering Aries, forming some tense aspects with planets in Capricorn. We can be excited about our personal plans, although duties and ambitions can distract us, producing some tension. With the Sun trine Chiron today, we’re open to learning and growing and not as inclined to worry about who’s right or wrong. Our egos don’t get in the way, helping us make real progress. This aspect encourages a holistic approach to problem-solving and points to opportunities to learn, grow, and improve, particularly through spontaneity, self-assertion, and courage. We’re putting our respect in the right places. A chance to find a sense of purpose or a mission can arise now, increasing our confidence. We also have a sense that we can put our thoughts or ideas into motion today. A Mercury-Mars biquintile is especially clever energy for figuring things out and solving problems. We’re heading toward a Mercury-Pluto sextile that improves our ability to see more layers of a situation. The Moon ends its transit of Aries when it enters steady Taurus at 10:43 PM EST.
The void Moon occurs from 6:46 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Taurus at 10:43 PM EST.
NOVEMBER 27
Mercury forms a sextile to Pluto this morning, making it a powerful time to look more deeply into a matter. We benefit from being patient and strategic in our decision-making. We are willing to look beyond the surface of things. Conversations are probing, investigative, and meaningful, and we may come to an improved psychological understanding of our lives. Midday, Venus opposes Uranus, and impulsive attractions to people, things, and even situations are likely. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness can be themes in our social interactions. Unexpected events or feelings may take us off guard. Our needs for comfort and togetherness appear to clash with the desire to be free and independent. We can experience sudden infatuations, whether with people or material items, that later prove less appealing. It’s not a good time to start a significant financial undertaking or relationship — not until rebellious feelings pass, and we gain a better sense of how we honestly feel. Falling back on old patterns of relating won’t work now. If we can separate rebellion from a sincere need for change, we might open ourselves to new ways of relating that accommodate our diverse needs. The Moon spends the day in Taurus, tapping into the Uranus in Taurus side of this Venus-Uranus opposition. This transit can tempt us to overindulge our whims. While we might crave companionship and independence, and these appear to be at odds now, a compromise is within reach.
NOVEMBER 28
The Moon spends another full day in the sign of gentle, stable Taurus. Neptune turns direct today after a retrograde phase since June 23rd. Now and in the coming few weeks, confusing situations become more transparent. Our creativity soars, or at least, we are more confident about applying our creativity in the real world. Instead of thinking of this period as a time of disillusionment, we can see it as a time of illumination–when we increasingly see the light. We have more faith in our dreams and visions, in others, and our belief systems. We begin to seek inspiration from external sources. With Neptune at a station today, we may have difficulty focusing long enough to tackle a task adequately. While today’s station can point to some disorientation, Mercury forms a sextile to Jupiter, and we’re ready for positive thinking, new insights, and cooperation, especially as the day advances. We may be taking a philosophical approach to thinking, and we’re open to learn and improve. The Mercury-Jupiter influence helps us put things into perspective, although it does also encourage reaching beyond our usual boundaries. Our minds open to possibilities. A Sun-Jupiter parallel is also generous and open-hearted. We’re cheerful and hopeful.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Sagittarius You’re now embarking on a trek into a land of dreams – not passive daydreams, but vibrant visions of what may be. The time has come to stop looking at the world as it is and asking why. Now’s the time to imagine the world as it could be, and the question has become: “Why not?” You also cannot do everything you imagine now, but you cannot do anything you don’t KNOW you can do – so believe, and dare to make it happen! This means expanding your mind, your belief system, your whole base of knowledge and experience. Time’s a wastin’ – let no grass grow between your toes!
Mercury in Scorpio A pronounced curiosity about taboos and mysteries plays a greater part in your life now. Your mind is on cutting through the nonessentials and penetrating to the core is where your mind is at now; you want to know who (or what) pulls the strings. Sex, taxes, investments, and others of life’s most compelling phenomena may captivate your interest more than ever before.
Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life – lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first, or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new – let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far … sometimes in harm’s way if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.

It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
