Jupiter in Capricorn

Jupiter’s effects are to expand our experiences, our knowledge, and our understanding. Jupiter represents optimism, growth, generosity, and abundance. In Sagittarius, Jupiter urged us to increase our cultural and spiritual awareness, to expand our higher minds, to broaden our experiences, and to have faith in the universe. Now, with Jupiter in Capricorn, a new focus comes into play.

Capricorn is an Earth sign. With an Earth sign Jupiter, we are practical realists who need to visualize results in order to feel motivated to achieve them. This is how we grow and expand. We are “doers” who are not easily lured by “get rich quick” schemes! During this cycle, we are not risk takers–we need direction, clear goals, and strong plans, and we value tangible results.

With Jupiter in Capricorn, we attract the best good fortune when we organize and direct, conduct ourselves with integrity, and employ an ethical and mature approach. We need to take a disciplined, committed, step-by-step approach to the realization of our goals.

We have a strong need for concrete results. Our attitude towards work and practical, realistic action is positive. Our attitudes and values concerning religion, moral conduct, education, and politics are rather conservative and traditional during this cycle. Our judgment is prudent and mature, but we may lack the imagination or risk-taking attitude that helps us to innovate at times. We need to learn to be more flexible and tolerant of weaknesses during this transit. We should also watch for an overly self-serving approach.

Jupiter is in its fall in the sign of Capricorn–in other words, it is not at its happiest, most expansive position in this Saturn-ruled sign.

Because Jupiter’s nature is extravagant, we must guard against “too much.” Jupiter’s zeal can supersede moderation at times. It can expand the more negative qualities of a sign, just as it can expand the positive traits. Its zeal and enthusiasm are well-intentioned, but it can blind us to our immoderate behaviors. In Capricorn, we can be materialistic and miserly. Especially as it aligns with Pluto in Capricorn during the course of its transit of the sign, we may be quite power-hungry or status-conscious during this period. These are things to watch for.

However, the higher vibration or expression of Jupiter seeks perspective. Jupiter’s perspective isn’t a detached, analytical, or detailed look at any given situation, but an overview–a look at the “big picture.” With Jupiter, ideally, we are able to rise above pettiness, mundane concerns, inconveniences, and the like.

Where Jupiter is currently transiting in your own chart is generally where you are inclined to find our joy at this stage in our development. This area of your life expands and improves in some manner. There is also a need for new tools to develop these areas of life. In order to develop, we need to pursue our goals with determination, ambition, responsibility, and common sense.

With Jupiter in Capricorn, we value achievement in the long term and we’re especially proud of ourselves when we’re taking responsibility for ourselves. We succeed through resourcefulness and reducing waste. We may very well get a window into areas where we have been limiting ourselves due to wasting our time, energy, and resources. Some form of streamlining is important at this time, particularly with Saturn’s transit of Capricorn taking place concurrently for most of the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.

During this Jupiter in Capricorn cycle, we particularly value integrity, common sense, practicality, patience, reflection, wisdom, precision, discretion, restraint, reliability, self-control, and self-reliance.

Jupiter in Capricorn is a time for pouring extra attention into the structures that hold us up. We are shrewd, strategic, and careful. We may take great pleasure in establishing more order in our lives and in the performance of our duties. Jupiter in Capricorn is opportunistic, perhaps revealing to us areas where we might turn a profit, turn around, and repurpose. We may see more Capricorn themes and topics in the media as we become more and more fascinated with Capricorn energies.

Health issues with Jupiter are usually related to excesses, while Capricorn issues are often connected to the knee or bones, to obstructions, rheumatism or arthritis, or issues related to melancholia. It’s possible that latent problems in these areas can magnify during this Jupiter transit.

Energetically speaking, Jupiter and Capricorn are not a particularly good match. However, with Saturn in Capricorn concurrently for most of the transit (Saturn does leave Capricorn briefly from March 21-July 1 in 2020), Jupiter helps to create more joy and pleasure in pursuing our goals.

Jupiter’s trine to Uranus opens us up to new energies, approaches, and attitudes, which is particularly useful with Jupiter in the traditional sign of Capricorn. Fortunate events occur as a direct result of our willingness to entertain the unusual and to think outside of the box. This transit favors group activities, financial endeavors associated with groups or organizational efforts, educational pursuits, writing, publishing, speaking, and humanitarian efforts. Pursuits can thrive if they’re fed with progressive, inventive energy, and it’s important to allow some breathing room to come up with new ideas. We’re open to possibilities and new ways of doing things, and we’re also quite focused on being fair and impartial. It’s a good time for digital learning. Unfortunately, it’s only a one-time pass, occurring in December.

Jupiter sextile Neptune

Jupiter’s sextile to Neptune suggests we’re able to check in with our needs for imagination and dreams or spirituality, helping us moderate some of the more extreme expressions of this Jupiter in Capricorn transit. We’re able to incorporate and manage our expectations, faith, and dreams. It helps us maintain a sense of proportion and to consider our morals and spiritual values as we pursue our objectives. It’s a time for connecting with idealistic and humanitarian goals, making connections with people from vastly different backgrounds than us and learning from their perspectives, and otherwise widening our experiences and broadening our minds. This transit first occurs with exactitude in February, again in July, and finally in October of 2020, affecting us from January to October, effectively.

Along approximately the same timeline, Jupiter conjuncts Pluto, magnifying our ambitions to better ourselves or our circumstances. We can be doggedly determined to make improvements. We might also take things too far with this combination, and in the sign of Capricorn, this can relate to power. As long as we channel our intense ambitions appropriately, this can be a powerful period for achievement. We’re striving toward autonomy, driven to improve our circumstances, and seeking prosperity with determination. We want to take something to a completely new level. However we define success at this time in our lives, we’re ready to do what it takes to achieve it. There is a real sense that we can achieve something of significance now. We might focus this energy on an important project or focus it inward–on bettering ourselves through greater self-understanding. Overcoming obstacles can figure strongly during this transit.

Perhaps the most interesting side to this transit is the discovery of our deeper desires–our resentments or jealousies give us windows into things we may not have known (or dared to admit to ourselves) we wanted, and it’s a time when we’re embracing these desires. Jupiter is wonderful at opening our minds to possibilities. As such, this is an excellent year for identifying our deeper wants, desires, and ambitions, and for pursuing these passions, whether it’s a hobby, adventure, lifestyle, or line of work. This transit lasts from approximately March to November 2020.

Jupiter’s alignment with the South Node of the Moon (which is the same as its opposition to the North Node) in January points to some tendency to grab at those things that comfort us but that are no longer serving us well for our growth and development. We should watch for these types of excesses, which can magnify at this time. We may be attempting to avoid closeness and emotional intimacy both with loved ones and ourselves by grabbing too tightly onto our material goals and ambitions. It can be difficult to trust our intuition under this influence until we can learn to embrace our emotional side by engaging our feelings as well as our need for nurture. While Jupiter encourages us to embrace our ambitions and our focus on achievement, without balancing our vision with our intuition, we may flounder.

Effectively, Jupiter is quintile Chiron from March to November 2020. This transit helps open our minds to others’ struggles and facilitates explaining our perspective to others. We’re more willing to learn and grow through our experiences under this influence. Both Jupiter and Chiron are good for seeing the whole of a situation, making holisitic problem-solving particularly rewarding and successful as these bodies connect through a creative aspect.

Combined with strict Saturn in Capricorn for most of the transit, suggests that we may be less tolerant of lies and deception in our relationships than usual during this cycle. Jupiter Transiting Capricorn Horoscopes: What it Means for Each Sign

The following are excerpted from my 2020 Preview Horoscopes. In a general sense, this is how Jupiter’s transit through Capricorn affects the different Sun signs (and Ascendant signs):

Aries

From December 2nd, 2019, to December 19, 2020, Jupiter climbs to the top of your solar chart. Your ambitions, career, business goals, and reputation grow and develop. Your talents and skills are recognized now like never before (at least not in twelve years). All of the hard work you’ve put in begins to pay off and is rewarded – or at the very least, recognized.

You are in the limelight in some way during this cycle. Although it’s a great period for expansion and recognition on a professional level, and you should take advantage of it, choose your projects carefully. Don’t take on more than you can handle. Watch also for gossip or mishandling of information. Be wary of situations that could get blown out of proportion or misunderstood. While Jupiter bestows gifts, these can be wasted if we go to great excess. As well, because Jupiter, which rules expansion, is in Saturn’s sign, which rules contraction, it’s best not to go overboard.

This can be a time of significant progress in the outer world, a fortunate change in status, and increased recognition.

With this transit, there are several possible scenarios that depend on your particular situation. Your hard work and effort can be recognized now. You could find yourself in a position that truly suits you. You take great pride in the work you do. For some of you, more prestige or a higher social standing may be part of the picture now. You can be quite charismatic in a position of authority or responsibility. Advancement in achieving an important goal can occur now. Your reputation may be enhanced in some significant way. You have more faith in your goals and aspirations during this period of your life.

This is a time when believing in yourself, your competency, and your ability to take the lead opens up opportunities for you. For the most part, you are likely to take advantage of this period in your life in order to expand your reach. You’re in a period in which you find considerably more joy in your work or feel particularly good about where you’re heading.

Your worldly or public status may change for the better. There could be a promotion, new job opportunities, a diploma, an important award, or marriage — something official. 

This can be a time for coming into the limelight in a significant way. Authority figures or other influential people tend to look upon you favorably, see more potential in you, and readily help you along, so work it! Something might happen now, or circumstances are such, that your career (or professional interests in general) expands, and you find more joy and pleasure from your work. Taurus

From December 2nd, 2019, to December 19, 2020, your belief systems, learning experiences, and hunger for adventure develop, grow, and expand at a rapid pace. You are feeling more courageous and spirited as you sense that there is more “out there” for you to learn and take in. This transit is a happy one, although it can seem subtle since it runs so smoothly!

This is a time in your life when you don’t sweat the small stuff as much as you normally do. You see the broader perspective on life, and you generally feel supported, so that smaller inconveniences don’t stress you out quite as easily. Your positive outlook is notable during this cycle. Gemini

From December 2nd, 2019, to December 19, 2020, there is a wonderful, refreshing focus on your private world or intimate life – a possible deepening of a relationship, or an increased understanding of your inner workings–a boost in your relationship with yourself! Your intimate life enlarges and expands, bringing you more joy and new discoveries.

During this cycle, you learn to embrace inner change in order to feel more empowered. There may be more opportunities to find support, financial and/or emotional, but you should be wary of living on credit and borrowing too heavily from the future.

During this year-long transit, it’s time to grab opportunities that help you to feel empowered and on top of your life. Conversations are deep and lead to fruitful discoveries. Sexuality is richer. There can be benefits and support coming your way through or from others, whether it’s refunds, an easier time getting loans or mortgages, a partner’s income increases or you inherit something valuable. Combining your resources, talents, and/or money with those of a partner can improve your financial outlook. You might also benefit from managing others’ resources and talents without the “teaming up” part. All depends on your current circumstances.

These things are more likely to relate to a partnership or key relationship in your life since Jupiter rules these things in your solar chart. There may be a metamorphosis of sorts related to a partnership.

Potential negatives: Taking on too much debt or relying too heavily on others for support. Be wise when/if lending and borrowing.

Otherwise, it’s a strong period for opening yourself up to others and for feeling more confident about your emotional depths. This is a period when you can quite successfully purge yourself of some of your inner demons, guilt, and buried psychological problems. While there can be some reality checks at times, it’s a powerful time for psychological growth. Imaginative activities or behind the scenes efforts can be rewarding, either (or both) spiritually and materially. Generosity, faith, and compassion increase. You may be opening up to family or loved ones and sharing your burdens.

This influence also positively impacts your career, especially from February to October. From April to November, you’re in particularly good shape for going in deep, advancing your goals, attracting support, and enjoying a deeper connection with a person or project.

From December 2nd, 2019, to December 19, 2020, your relationships receive a boost of forward-moving energy. This cycle that lasts over a year helps you succeed in partnership or improve your relationship status/situation.

Your partnerships, relating abilities, and powers of negotiation begin to grow and expand. New partnership opportunities can arrive now, or the chance to bring fresh energy to an existing committed relationship emerges. Relationships entered into now are generally successful and happy — they are mutually beneficial. Sometimes, this transit absolves an existing partnership, but if this is the case, it is likely to come as a relief, or it is a “blessing in disguise.” Meeting someone better for you at this point in your life may be a reason for this, although it’s important not to jump into something new blindly. The positive potentials of this transit are many: You can negotiate more successfully, and, if applicable, win in legal matters. Legal matters or challenging relationship problems from the past can be resolved, and more casual disputes can be settled amicably as well. You may find yourself taking on the role of consultant or advisor, or you could benefit from help from same. Good publicity may come your way. If your career has you working with or before the public, you can safely expect increased popularity now, particularly if you do counseling or negotiating in your job. Jupiter rules your sector of work, health, habits, and routines. Any of these things can be tied with partnerships during this time. A romantic or business partnership could form through your work or through connections you make in your pursuit of lifestyle changes, or a lifestyle change/makeover may result from collaboration. A partnership may strengthen as you work together or pursue the same/similar health program.

This can also be a time when shared beliefs, interests, and ideologies are a focal point in a close relationship. For some, a significant person comes into your life with common educational goals or belief systems, possibly through long-distance connections, schools, or publishing/online activities. For many of you, you are attracting people who want to help, who are on your side, and who take a strong interest in you.

Potential negatives: You may be attracting partners who are more concerned with freedom than with pairing, or who seem to be quite extravagant or full of themselves. There could be troubles associated with an existing partner’s extravagance or demand for freedom.
