The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Wednesday, November 16th, 2022, at 8:27 AM EST.

On Wednesday morning, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Scorpio forms a square with the Moon in Leo.

The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us — and what doesn’t. This is in preparation for next week’s New Moon when something new is born once again.

It’s not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. We might consider our recent revelations, what they mean to us, and what’s our possible next step.

This phase of the Moon signals a time to review and sort rather than push something new. Until the New Moon, it’s a better time to tie up loose ends, take inventory, and let go if necessary.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 24 degrees and 10 minutes of Leo square the Sun at 24 degrees and 10 minutes of Scorpio, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 22 to 26 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Scorpio; Mercury is in Scorpio until the 17th, when it enters Sagittarius; Venus is in Scorpio until the 16th, when it enters Sagittarius; Mars is in Gemini.

The Sun is in Scorpio from October 23-November 22. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire.” Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio–we want to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair.

Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.

We are more likely to prosper through strategy and knowing the value of keeping some things to ourselves at the right times. Efforts to repurpose, recycle, salvage, and transform can be successful. We’re especially successful at organizing, researching, investigating, and analyzing.

While we can be quite controlled with effort, there is some inclination to extremism. We can be drawn to challenges and crises, and we feel compelled to heal, fix, and direct or manage.

Mercury is in Scorpio from October 29-November 17. When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and arrive at reasonable solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover.

We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried, the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations.

Scorpio is exceptionally sharp, profound, and analytical yet also intuitive. Thinking is inclined to be one-track-minded, focused, and even obsessive.

Mercury-in-Scorpio isn’t shocked by much, or at least keeps its cool even if surprised. During this cycle, our approach is psychological when analyzing, deciding, and studying or observing. We’re not afraid to go places mentally. We get to the heart of a matter or to the bottom line very quickly, usually through instinct. Our resourcefulness and strategy stand out. We’re competitive.

We can be intrigued by motives and secrets or taboos. It’s not easy to take instruction or someone’s word for it–we have to experience it ourselves to draw conclusions. This position of Mercury is one of the most persuasive. It’s an excellent time to research, investigate, troubleshoot, and work on hunches. If left to observe on our own, we do our best thinking, seeking the hidden layers of a situation.

Mercury is in Sagittarius from November 17-December 6. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. We seek ideals, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.

We’re more inclined to ask questions and seek answers during this forward-looking cycle. We might often wax philosophical, and we enjoy wrapping our minds around new concepts and ideas. Still, the details are not as interesting to us now, as we prefer to envision the big picture.

On the downside, we can be inconsistent and lack attention to details. While frank and open, we can also be tactless during this period. We’re generous with our communications and input, and we’re humorous and friendly at this time.

Venus is in Scorpio from October 23-November 16. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special–contact that breaks the taboos, that is extreme and intense, and that is unforgettable. It’s a highly emotional position for Venus, and it’s passionate energy.

Our relationships are immensely important to us, and we may even feel that they consume us. In fact, we tend to want to be consumed by them! Our drive is toward intense closeness, but blind faith in our partners is extremely hard for us now. Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up our own power to others are strong. Scorpio is an “all or nothing” energy, and relationships tend to be somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as a result. Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel us to create crises to feel alive and vital.

Similarly, during this Venus-in-Scorpio cycle, we seek or gravitate to absorbing, deeply engaging, dramatic pleasures, activities, projects, and art. Things that are profound, disturbing, mysterious, or unusual can be more appealing now.

This can be a good time for finances, especially when working with others’ talents or resources, whether as an agent, supporter, or partner.

Venus is in Sagittarius from November 16-December 9. Moving from Scorpio to Sagittarius, romantic energy shifts from intense to buoyant. Sagittarius, of course, has its intense moments, considering it is a fire sign. However, its energy is considerably less focused; and, while Scorpio is most concerned with intimacy with a specific person, Sagittarius’ love is of a more universal kind.

Romantic adventures and a straightforward–even blunt–approach to love are on the agenda. Gone are the intricacy and complexity of Venus in Scorpio. Truth and higher meaning are the priorities with Venus in Sagittarius. 

We’re idealistic in our relationships during this cycle. It’s more critical than usual that our partners and companions support our dreams, goals, freedom needs, beliefs, and vision. We value intellectual rapport more than usual during this period.

Openness with our feelings can sometimes backfire, but for the most part, it can be refreshing. We tend to more spontaneously enjoy ourselves or throw ourselves into pleasure, art, cultural interests, and special interest topics at this time. We can especially enjoy travel, learning, the outdoors, or animals. 

With money, we can be a little reckless or careless, but also faithful and optimistic. Some element of luck or good karma can be involved with our finances. Benefits, whether material or spiritual, can come through publishing, foreign or religious connections, travel, education, or legal matters.

Mars is in Gemini from August 20, 2022-March 25, 2023. [This is much longer than usual due to a Mars retrograde cycle from October 30, 2022-January 12, 2023.]

In Gemini, Mars is versatile and flexible but not especially determined or focused. We should watch for becoming so scattered that we’re ineffective. However, it’s an excellent period for diversifying our interests and understanding the power of our communications.

It’s an excellent time for strategizing and devising useful tactics to achieve our desires and goals. We’re resourceful and clever, and we know how to use words effectively.

Perhaps most notable during this period is our tactical skills. We know how to maneuver things to get our way. We use words to charm and express anger. We’re very talkative, and animatedly so, when passionate and enthusiastic about a topic.

Mars is retrograde from October 30, 2022, to January 12, 2023.

Jupiter is in Pisces.

Jupiter was in Aries from May 10 to October 28, 2022 before it retreated into Pisces. This was part one of two, with the second and final part upcoming–from December 20, 2022, to May 16, 2023. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Aries.

Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.

Uranus is in Taurus.

Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.

There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Scorpio from October 23-November 16. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. If a relationship becomes too settled or predictable, we may crave more intensity and catalytic experience. Jealousies, fears of betrayal, and power games are the shadow side of Venus in Scorpio.

We may easily become obsessed with a fear that our partners might be betraying us, or that they are not as consumed by and dedicated to the relationship as us. This can lead us to try to uncover the “truth”, reading too many negative possibilities in our partners’ actions and words.

Venus is in Sagittarius from November 16-December 9. As Venus moves from Scorpio to Sagittarius, romantic energy changes from intense to buoyant. Sagittarius, of course, has its intense moments, considering it is a fire sign. However, its energy is considerably less focused; and, while Scorpio is most concerned with intimacy with a specific person, Sagittarius’ love is of a more universal kind. Romantic adventures and a straightforward–even blunt–approach to love are on the agenda. Gone are the intricacy and complexity of the Venus-in-Scorpio phase. Truth and higher meaning are focal points for Sagittarius.

Venus in Sagittarius is forward-looking, not very specific, outgoing, and energetic. Freedom is most important in our love relationships now. We take a happy and enthusiastic approach to love, and we might find too much intensity or seriousness depressing. We have a taste for the exotic as well as for adventure with Venus in Sagittarius.

This position’s shadow side is restlessness, the inability to “settle down,” and endless searching for something bigger and “better.”

This week: Sunday (the 13th) supports intimacy, understanding, and depth in our connections. We seek devotion and attachment. From the 13th-15th, there is some tendency to avoid commitment. However, we’re feeling particularly generous and hopeful, even if some timing is off.  We’re optimistic, and we have growth and improvement on our minds.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Scorpio This is way beyond love, all the way to obsession – that’s the nature of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. We’re not talking just lukewarm WANT here; we’re talking red-hot GOT TO HAVE! Passion, jealousy, possession: these are the kinds of experiences that can flow from the intensity that courses through you at one level or another now – voracious.

Venus in Sagittarius A yearning for adventure and far horizons stirs in you now. To roam, to wander and wonder, to seek freedom and go where no one has gone before – these things are deep and powerful longings. A time of romantic crusades, a universal love that might not be too particular.

Venus quincunx Mars November 11. When we attempt to be friendly, we seem to miss the mark. Attempting to satisfy romantic needs and assertive/sexual needs simultaneously can be challenging. Our romantic sensibilities and our desires are at odds with one another, and problems (especially misunderstandings)  in romantic and sexual relationships may result. This is a less-than-ideal transit under which to begin a new relationship.

Venus sextile Pluto November 12-13. Subtly powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions.

Venus sesquiquadrate Chiron November 13-14. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves.

Venus trine Jupiter November 14-15. Harmony and good will reign under this influence. Expansive feelings in love, and a feeling that anything is possible if we set our sights high enough, are experienced now. We are friendly, big-hearted, sociable, and optimistic. It is easy to make social contacts under this influence. Cheerfulness, trust, and confidence in love and social matters.

Venus conjunction Mercury November 21. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives

It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).

The Moon is waning this week, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, although with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).

Venus sextile Pluto. If we seize the opportunity, this is a good time for both finances and relationships. The feelings are impassioned, but not in an offensive or unpleasant way. We are focused and confident, and we appreciate depth of feeling and authenticity in our dealings with others.

Mercury quincunx Mars. What we do and what we think or say are different. Instead of listening to what others have to say, we end up interrupting them and making assumptions. This is not a good day to make important decisions, as our thinking simply isn’t clear.

Venus sesquiquadrate Chiron. Blocks to intimacy are possible now as we focus on differences rather than similarities in our relationships with others. We might have a hard time learning from one another as a result.

Mercury sextile Pluto. We possess more insight and psychological understanding than usual. We are willing to look beyond the surface of things and investigate further. Perhaps more importantly, we are more patient and strategic in our decision-making.

Sun trine Neptune. We’re at the right place at the right time, probably because our hunches are more likely to be correct and we are “tuned in”. We are inspired, and charitable acts now will serve to lift our spirits like no drug can. A good time for self-improvement programs or efforts. Instinctual judgment is enhanced under this influence. We are able to see matters, and people, from a different perspective–one that allows for, and even finds beauty in, differences.

Venus trine Jupiter. Friendliness and optimism characterize this transit. We are big-hearted and our feelings are expansive. The outlook is cheerful and hopeful and the atmosphere is cooperative. This is a sociable, perhaps lazy and self-indulgent, time. We easily find meaning in our social connections. We are more open and trusting of friends and lovers. Integrity and loyalty are favored. A favorable influence for winning people’s trust. Speculation, advertising, publishing, and travel are favored.

Mercury sesquiquadrate Chiron. Communications may be careless, hurtful or perceived as hurtful under this influence. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. There may be impatience with rules, worry or guilty feelings, and conflicting viewpoints now.

Sun quincunx Mars. A tendency to fly off the handle easily characterizes this transit, due to inner tension between the will and performance. It’s hard to find satisfaction or a sense of peace at this time. We may feel decidedly “out of sorts.”

Mercury trine Jupiter. Looking for meaning in mundane affairs, positive thinking, insights, cooperation–these are themes of this influence. Our ideas are big and our intentions noble. We might receive good news or offers now. We prefer to think about the big picture rather than becoming bogged down with details. This transit favors short trips, writing, teaching, studying, submitting applications and forms, accurate diagnoses and observations (all things equal).

Sun sextile Pluto. Research brings rewards. We benefit now from strategy and keeping things to ourselves for the time being. Opportunities to find or renew something we had lost, and to gain some power are available now.

Mars square Neptune. Inspiration comes from unusual sources, but you have a hard time staying focused and organized. Energy may be variable. Intuition is strong, but may be faulty. Not a good time to begin a new project or affair.

Sun sesquiquadrate Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different.

NOVEMBER 13

Today’s Cancer Moon is accommodating, attached, and protective. A sextile between Venus and Pluto this morning gently breaks down barriers, helping us with new insight into our needs for love, comfort, or pleasure and our money situation. We might take a comfortably strategic approach to these affairs. Our feelings are more focused and intensified in a generally pleasant and positive way. In fact, we seek depth of emotion and authenticity in our dealings. Mercury and Mars form a quincunx late morning, however, and we can experience aggravation if we’re not understood or if we can’t seem to get where we want to go fast enough. What we do and what we think or communicate can be at odds. Instead of listening to what others have to say, we may interrupt them and make assumptions. It’s not ideal conditions for making important decisions, and we should watch for impatience.

NOVEMBER 14

Lovely aspects for gaining a new perspective occur today. For one, Mercury forms a sextile to Pluto, improving our ability to see more layers of a situation. We might discover further information that gives us an edge or finally “see” the truth of a matter we’ve avoided. It’s a powerful time to look more deeply into a topic. We benefit from being patient and strategic in our decision-making and are willing to look beyond the surface of things. Conversations are probing, investigative, and meaningful, and we may come to an improved psychological understanding of our lives. It’s a good time to let go of something that has kept us bound or stuck in a difficult position. For another, the Sun forms a trine with Neptune, encouraging a different perspective, although in a different way–instead of probing, we might take a step back from a situation to see it differently. This transit brings a fluid, graceful theme to the day. We readily access our intuition and can be moved to help, support, or give of ourselves. We see beauty in differences. We seek and find inspiration. We would do well to de-emphasize some of our material concerns or interests, at least temporarily. We’re also approaching a Venus-Jupiter transit that’s forgiving and generous.

NOVEMBER 15

This morning, the Benefics Venus and Jupiter form a trine, generating friendly energy, encouraging our desire for the ideal, and lifting our spirits. This transit helps to both soften and strengthen us. We are big-hearted, and our feelings are big, begging expression. Gestures tend to be thoughtful, and we’re particularly hopeful, cheerful, and cooperative. It can be a somewhat lazy or self-indulgent time. Our tolerance for rudeness or crassness decreases. We are especially open and trusting of others, expecting the best, and both integrity and loyalty are favored. However, later today, the Sun is quincunx retrograde Mars, presenting some mild challenges and disrupting the flow. There can be a dilemma between what we want and what we think we should do. Tension is possible due to divergent needs or desires. Desires can be compelling, but we may be on the fence about how–or whether–to fulfill them. We may feel a little out of sorts, which can ultimately prompt us to make some valuable edits. Today’s Leo Moon encourages our theatrical, playful, and competitive sides, although Leo’s ruler, the Sun, in an awkward aspect to Mars can point to troubles channeling these drives.

NOVEMBER 16

Venus enters Sagittarius early today, and Mercury will do the same tomorrow. With Venus in Sagittarius for a stay until December 9th, romantic adventures and a straightforward and even blunt approach to love are on the agenda. We leave behind complexities and embrace directness and clarity. We take pleasure in seeking truth and higher meaning, and we’re open, sincere, and optimistic with others. While it’s not the best time for care with money, it’s strong for enthusiasm and spirit. The Moon continues its transit of Leo until 8:05 PM EST, when it moves into Virgo. This morning, the Third Quarter Moon occurs with the Leo Moon’s square to the Sun, signaling a time to review and sort rather than push something new. Until after the New Moon on the 23rd, it’s a better time to tie up loose ends, take inventory, and let go if necessary. We might consider our recent revelations, what they mean to us, and what we might do next. Also this morning, Mercury forms a trine to Jupiter, and we might gain a positive outlook through conversations and a sense of hope or trust in the future. Big-picture thinking benefits us. We seek a little extra meaning to our projects and experiences. Our ideas are big, and our intentions noble. We might receive good news or offers, and curiosity stirs. With the Virgo Moon from 8:05 PM EST forward, pouring some of our energy into detailed work may be appropriate.

Mercury moves into Sagittarius today, where it will stay until December 6th, inspiring an adventurous mindset. Mercury in Sagittarius is curious, questioning, and brave with thoughts and ideas. Our thinking is optimistic and idealistic, and our faith increases. However, we are not always very precise or detail-oriented during this cycle. The Sun harmonizes with Pallas today, and we build faith or confidence in our skills and talents. We seek meaning, wisdom, and mental stimulation. This is a time for making plans, seeing important patterns, and the motivation to solve problems. The Moon spends the day in Virgo, and attending to our daily affairs is also in order.

NOVEMBER 18

The Sun forms a sextile to Pluto today, putting us in a renovating spirit. We seek a little more depth from our activities and connections. This influence subtly increases our ambition, determination, and dedication. Making improvements or working toward a personal goal can be successful now. We tend to direct our energy constructively and seek new insight into our lives. It’s a time to discover new ways of looking at problems or life.
