The LAST QUARTER MOON will occur early next week on Sunday, November 8th, 2020, at 8:46 AM EST.
On Sunday morning next week (on November 8th), the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Scorpio forms a square with the Moon in Leo.
The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us — and what doesn’t. This is in preparation for next week’s New Moon when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. We might consider our recent revelations, what they mean to us, and what’s our possible next step.
This phase of the Moon signals a time to review and sort rather than push something new. Until the New Moon, it’s a better time to tie up loose ends, take inventory, and let go if necessary.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 16 degrees and 37 minutes of Leo forming a square to the Sun at 16 degrees and 37 minutes of Scorpio, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 15 to 19 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Scorpio; Mercury is in Libra (retrograde to November 3rd); Venus is in Libra; Mars is in Aries.
The Sun is in Scorpio from October 22-November 21. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire.” Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio. We have the desire to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair. Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.
Mercury is in Libra from October 27-November 10. [Note that retrograde Mercury re-entered Libra on October 27th and continues its retrograde until November 3, but stays in Libra until November 10.] When Mercury is in Libra, we are diplomatic and friendly. During this cycle, we are able to bring a more rational approach to one-to-one relationships. It’s a good time to think about ways of improving our negotiation skills. In an attempt to see both sides of any given situation, Mercury in Libra can be a vacillating energy. It can be more challenging than usual to make quick decisions, as we can sit “on the fence.” We may too easily accommodate others’ opinions in order to keep the peace. In our negotiations, we don’t want to assert ourselves in such a way as to appear to be the “bad guy”. However, this is a good period for considering others’ points of view. We are more inclined to arrive at fair conclusions.
Mercury is in Scorpio from September 27-October 27 and November 10-December 1. [Note that retrograde Mercury re-entered Libra on October 27th. Mercury spends longer than usual in Scorpio due to Mercury’s retrograde from October 13-November 3, although this Rx is partially spent in the sign Libra.] When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and to arrive at fair solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover. We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations. Scorpio is extremely sharp, profound, and analytical. Thinking is inclined to be one-track minded, focused, and even obsessive.
Venus is in Libra from October 27-November 21. We are more inclined to employ charm than direct or assertive behavior to get what we want during this cycle. Although relationships mean everything to Venus in Libra, there is an air of cool detachment to this energy. We are very obliging with others–quite willing to negotiate and compromise. We can be incredibly idealistic about love. We prefer things are done the “right” way, and aggressive or uncouth behavior especially turns us off. The shadow side of this position is dependence, inconsistency, and superficiality. As we attempt to avoid unpleasant situations, we could easily gloss over deeper issues at play in our relationships. It’s probably best to avoid the trap of acquiescing to our partners while privately resenting the fact or thinking ourselves martyrs for doing so! It’s also a time when we are more artistically inclined. We tend to seek balance in our personal environment.
Mars is in Aries from June 27, 2020, to January 6, 2021. [This is longer than usual due to the retrograde of Mars from September 9-November 13, 2020.] Mars feels at home in one of the signs that it rules, Aries, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident. Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.
Jupiter entered Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
Saturn has returned to the sign of Capricorn in retrograde motion (early July). In 2020, Saturn divides its time between the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here. Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July, 1, 2020, and then later, from December 17, 2020, to March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus transits Taurus May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Libra from October 27-November 21. Venus rules Libra and thus is dignified in the sign. Venus feels right “at home” in Libra, where she seeks to balance and harmonize. With Venus in Libra, we can easily be in love with love. We are more comfortable with a close partner with whom we can seek to have a balanced relationship. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want.
Although Venus in Libra virtually lives for relationships, there is an air of cool detachment to this energy. We are very obliging with others–quite willing to negotiate and compromise. We can be especially idealistic about love. We prefer things be done the “right” way, and are turned off by aggressive or uncouth behavior. The shadow side of this position is dependency, inconsistency, and superficiality. In an attempt to avoid unpleasant situations, we could easily gloss over deeper issues at play in our relationships. It’s probably best to avoid the trap of acquiescing to our partners but privately resenting the fact or thinking ourselves martyrs for doing so!
This week: On Sunday, the 1st, we can be commitment-phobic. However, our interactions can open up soft spots or trigger sensitive issues, which can help us understand ourselves and others more deeply. On Tuesday, we can be uncertain how to integrate our needs for companionship with the desire to be free or independent.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Libra As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on a greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty – these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.
Venus trine Saturn October 23-24. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism and maturity in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor, and have much potential to last.
Venus semi-sextile Mercury October 27. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel.
Venus opposition Chiron October 31-November 1. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves. Our relationships may open up some inner wound.
Venus quincunx Uranus November 3. Impulsive spending, peculiar attractions, fear of commitment, freedom vs. intimacy issues. We might question whether we need more excitement in our relationships, or whether we need freedom from them; yet we don’t feel confident enough to rock the boat.
Venus opposition Mars November 8-9. Romantic needs are at odds with assertive, physical, or sexual needs. Relations are heated and erotic, but come with underlying tension.
Venus contra-parallel Mars November 10. Passions are stimulated and intense. Fine line between love and hate. Competitiveness. Questions are raised or ultimatums made.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, November 1st, from 9:29 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Gemini the next day, Monday, November 2nd, at 4:59 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, November 4th, from 8:49 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Cancer at 4:45 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Friday, November 6th, from 8:27 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Leo the next day, Saturday, November 7th, at 2:19 AM EST.
November 2020:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Saturday, October 31st, at approximately 12 PM EDT, until Sunday, November 1st, at approximately 9:25 PM EST, while the Moon is in Taurus. Caveats: Mercury and Mars are retrograde during this window. This window is also better after 3:00 PM on the 1st.
Another window occurs from Tuesday, November 3rd, at approximately 6:45 PM, until Wednesday, November 4th, at approximately 8:45 AM EST, while the Moon is in Gemini. Caveats: While Mercury is no longer retrograde during this window, it’s stationary, and Mars is retrograde.
The next window will occur early next week from Sunday November 8th at approximately 9:45 AM EST, until Monday, November 9th, at approximately 6:00 AM EST.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury square Saturn. Getting from point A to point B can be a challenge during this transit due to obstacles. Communications may be blocked or delayed, and negative thinking could dominate at this time. Projects we thought were complete may need revision, and others could appear overly critical, insensitive, or sarcastic. It’s difficult to trust our instincts, and we second-guess things automatically under this influence. Avoid signing on the dotted line at this time.
Venus opposition Chiron. Disappointments in love relationships can occur now as we focus on the differences and weaknesses rather than the strong points. We are more aware, and possibly resentful of, imbalances in our relationships. We are less open to romantic feelings and more insecure about whether our affections will be returned.
Venus quincunx Uranus. Impulsive spending, peculiar attractions, fear of commitment, and freedom vs. intimacy issues may be themes now. We might question whether we need more excitement in our relationships (or leisure activities), or whether we need freedom from them; yet we don’t feel confident enough to rock the boat.

Sun quincunx Mars. A tendency to fly off the handle easily characterizes this transit, due to inner tension between the will and performance. It’s hard to find satisfaction or a sense of peace at this time. We may feel decidedly “out of sorts”.

NOVEMBER 1
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Taurus, and we’re seeking steadiness and harmony. Retrograde Mercury forms a square to Saturn today. This aspect first occurred on September 23rd, while Mercury was direct, and will recur on November 6th. In fact, it will stay in orb until the 6th due to Mercury’s station direct on the 3rd. Until the 6th, there can be an increase in errors, negative thinking, critique, and miscommunications. Something communicated in September can now come back for correction or refocus. Communication blocks or challenges are possible. We may be dealing with the consequences of guarded, delayed, or contrary communications. It’s difficult to trust our instincts, and our thoughts or conversations don’t flow very naturally under this influence. Past problems may crop up for review or further attention. As well, Venus opposes Chiron, and there can be disappointments as we focus on the differences and weaknesses rather than the strong points in our interactions. Temporarily, we can be less confident about our relationships, social life, worth, money, or social skills. We are more aware and possibly resentful of imbalances in our relationships and insecure about whether our affections are reciprocated. Tonight’s Moon-Saturn trine can help stabilize our emotions, bringing us down to earth and focused on practical priorities.
The void Moon occurs from 9:29 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Gemini tomorrow, Monday, November 2nd, at 4:59 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 2
The Moon continues its transit of Taurus until 4:59 AM EST, after which it moves through the sign of Gemini. With a Sun-Pluto quintile today, we take on a comfortably strategic approach to our lives. The Gemini Moon encourages a connected, communicative approach to our lives. Curiosity is stimulated. This Moon wants to diversify and keep things light and friendly. The Moon’s trine to Venus this evening helps smooth out some of the communication troubles that are prevalent now as we near a Mercury station, and an impending Mercury-Saturn square hangs heavily over the week. We’re tuning in to our need for pleasure and comfort, and we’re seeking areas of harmony and similarity.
The void Moon continues until the Moon enters Gemini today at 4:59 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 3
The Moon spends the day in communications-focused Gemini. Gemini’s ruler, Mercury, stations and turns direct today after three weeks of retrograde motion. Over the coming weeks, recent challenging issues with communications and decision-making can improve. The answers we’ve been waiting for might arrive, and plans or projects that have stalled now resume. It can be hard to make sense of everything during the shift today, however, and thus critical decision-making might be avoided for the time being if possible, as our thinking can be skewed temporarily. We’re more error-prone. As the shift from retrograde to direct occurs, there can be the magnification of problems and difficulties conveying and understanding directions. Also today, Venus forms a quincunx to Uranus, and we can have a hard time integrating our needs for companionship or closeness with our desire for freedom and independence. There is a sense that we can only have one or the other. We’re unlikely to feel confident enough to rock the boat. Taming rebelliousness makes sense now.
NOVEMBER 4
The Moon continues its transit of Gemini until 4:45 PM EST, after which the Moon transits Cancer. The Moon is void from 8:49 AM to 4:45 PM, and during this period, it’s generally best not to push new pursuits, as they can be harder or impossible to realize. Its trine to Mercury this morning helps us express ourselves well, even if our words are not perfect. With the Gemini Moon, we’re reasonable and logical, and we gravitate toward contacts and activities that stimulate us and satisfy our need for diversity, variety, and knowledge. After 4:45 PM, we begin to favor comfort over satisfying our curiosity. With a Cancer Moon, we seek familiar faces and places.
The void Moon occurs from 8:49 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Cancer at 4:45 PM EST.
NOVEMBER 5
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Cancer. We seek out comfort and familiarity today with a Cancer Moon. However, this pursuit may clash with our desire for companionship and independence with the Moon’s square to Venus in Libra and Mars in Aries. Nevertheless, we can benefit from the clarity of the Sun-Moon trine this evening and act more holistically and purposefully. Our feelings run deep, and we are unafraid to face them, making it a good time to get in touch with what motivates us and others. We have a high need to stick with tradition or familiar methods, and ideally, we’re learning from past experiences, love, family, and attachments. We head toward a Mercury-Saturn square–the final such aspect after Mercury’s direct turn. A problem, criticism, or misunderstanding can weigh heavily in the air.
NOVEMBER 6
Mercury first formed a lower square to Saturn on September 23rd and then, while retrograde, returned to the square on November 1st. Early today, this aspect perfects for the final time. We may have been swinging back to problems that first began in September, and we’re now facing them with new information. Something communicated in the past can now come back for correction or refocus. A Mercury-Saturn square is rather grumpy, critical, and worried or fretting. We may speak/think negatively or expect the worst under this influence. However, there can be a willingness to make sacrifices if it seems the best way to make improvements. While the Cancer Moon forms a lovely trine to Neptune this morning, and we can find creative ways to express and satisfy our increased needs for safety, it forms oppositions to Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn as well as a square to Mercury. The Cancer Moon’s more defensive side may surface. Our emotional needs and personal life stand in stark contrast with our responsibilities. We’re inclined to want to give a personal pursuit some special attention, but we can be frustrated by little things that go wrong or pull us away from our interests. These aspects remind us of the need to find the right balance between our personal and public lives or between play and discipline.
The void Moon occurs from 8:27 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Leo tomorrow, Saturday, November 7th, at 2:19 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 7
The Moon heads into the sign of Leo early today at 2:19 AM EST. This morning, Leo’s ruler, the Sun, forms a quincunx to retrograde Mars, presenting some mild challenges and disrupting the flow. There can be a dilemma between what we want and what we think we should do. Tension is possible due to divergent needs or desires. Desires can be compelling, but we may be on the fence about how–or whether–to fulfill them. We may feel a little out of sorts, which can ultimately prompt us to make some useful edits. As the day advances, the Leo Moon encourages our theatrical, playful, and competitive sides. The Moon’s square to Uranus suggests an attempt to stubbornly stick with our methods this afternoon.
The void Moon continues until the Moon enters Leo today at 2:19 AM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
When the Moon is in Leo
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Scorpio Who owes what, who owns what, and who decides these things: these are some of the major issues for you at the dawn of the cycle that now begins in your life. The only thing we really own is our consciousness; the only master who is never overthrown is oneself. These are lessons best learned early in this cycle. Master them, and you master everything. Dodge these issues, and the great strength that could be yours will remain just out of reach. Understanding inner motivations, seeing through to the core: that’s your real path of power and enlightenment now.
Mercury in Libra A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts – on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.
Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life – lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first, or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new – let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far … sometimes in harm’s way if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
