The New MOON occurs on Friday, December 19th, 2025, at 8:43 PM EST.
On Friday, a New Moon occurs in the sign of Sagittarius. The New Moon in Sagittarius marks the start of a new cycle.
Representing new beginnings, the New Moon occurs with the Sun and Moon’s alignment in the mutable fire sign of Sagittarius. It’s a time when we can focus on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Archer – optimistic, enthusiastic, adventurous, honest, outspoken, independent – and consider how to positively incorporate these qualities into our lives.
As we advance, we can focus on goals that will increase our understanding and awareness, give us the courage to expand our horizons, and gain confidence and optimism from a broader perspective. All too easily, we can get lost in the details of mundane existence. With this potent Sagittarius energy, however, we can find ways to transcend these details of day-to-day life and nurture our faith, hope, and vision.
Because Sagittarius thinks in big terms, we may have a tendency to overdo our expectations – something to watch for. We are setting the stage for reaping the rewards from our braveries, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs.
The New Moon Chart:
This New Moon is near the midpoint of Venus and Mars and is widely conjunct both bodies, supporting our creativity, energy, and motivation levels. However, it forms a square with Saturn and Neptune, suggesting blocks to our efforts to begin anew, especially in the form of attitudes that swing from overly pessimistic to overly idealistic. Its quincunx to Uranus also disrupts the flow, and it can result in some hesitance even with a strong desire to start fresh. We may not fully trust our inner muse.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 28 degrees and 25 minutes of Sagittarius, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 24 to 30 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) and 0 to 2 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.
The chart above is excellent for visualizing the major influences in the New Moon chart along with the chart patterns. Below, the chart wheel is of the same event but with a few more points, such as the major asteroids and Chiron.
NEXT WEEK: The next Moon phase will occur next week, on Saturday, December 27th, 2025, at 2:10 PM EST, when the First Quarter Moon will occur.

This week: The Sun is in Sagittarius; Mercury is in Sagittarius; Venus is in Sagittarius; Mars is in Sagittarius until December 15th, when it enters Capricorn.
The Sun is in Sagittarius from November 21-December 21. With the Sun in Sagittarius, our focus shifts from the need for an intimate connection with a person and with ourselves, to the desire to reach out to the world and connect with something larger than ourselves.
While the Sun moves through this fiery, mutable sign, we can take steps to increase our understanding and awareness of the world around us. We are more able to muster up the courage to expand our horizons and branch out into new ways of thinking.
We can gain more confidence and optimism by focusing on the “big picture” as we move away from our focus on the details of mundane existence. Although we may be prone to overdoing our expectations, we have the opportunity to nurture our faith, hope, and vision under this influence.
Mercury is in Sagittarius from October 29-November 18 and from December 11, 2025-January 1, 2026 [Mercury transits Sagittarius in two parts this year due to Mercury’s recent retrograde from November 9-29 that began in Sagittarius and ended in Scorpio]. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. We seek ideals, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.
We’re more inclined to ask questions and seek answers during this forward-looking cycle. We might often wax philosophical, and we enjoy wrapping our minds around new concepts and ideas. Still, the details are not as interesting to us now, as we prefer to envision the big picture.
On the downside, we can be inconsistent and lack attention to details. While frank and open, we can also be tactless during this period. We’re generous with our communications and input, and we’re humorous and friendly at this time.
Venus is in Sagittarius from November 30-December 24. Moving from Scorpio to Sagittarius, romantic energy shifts from intense to buoyant. Sagittarius, of course, has its intense moments, considering it is a fire sign. However, its energy is considerably less focused; and, while Scorpio is most concerned with intimacy with a specific person, Sagittarius’ love is of a more universal kind.
Romantic adventures and a straightforward–even blunt–approach to love are on the agenda. Gone are the intricacy and complexity of Venus in Scorpio. Truth and higher meaning are the priorities with Venus in Sagittarius.
We’re idealistic in our relationships during this cycle. It’s more critical than usual that our partners and companions support our dreams, goals, freedom needs, beliefs, and vision. We value intellectual rapport more than usual during this period.
Openness with our feelings can sometimes backfire, but for the most part, it can be refreshing. We tend to more spontaneously enjoy ourselves or throw ourselves into pleasure, art, cultural interests, and special interest topics at this time. We can especially enjoy travel, learning, the outdoors, or animals.
With money, we can be a little reckless or careless, but also faithful and optimistic. Some element of luck or good karma can be involved with our finances. Benefits, whether material or spiritual, can come through publishing, foreign or religious connections, travel, education, or legal matters.
Mars is in Sagittarius from November 4-December 15. With a Sagittarius Mars, our actions are motivated by our ideals. We are bothered by routine, quickly becoming restless if we feel confined. Our love of adventure and of conquest is strong–this is the position of wanderlust. We start projects or challenges with gusto, although we may tend to abandon them rather quickly. This may be because we set our sights too high! There is a tendency to jump in and think about it later. Part of us resists directions, instructions, and planning ahead.
We are spontaneous, direct, and passionate about our beliefs with Mars in Sagittarius. It’s a playful, fun-loving, and optimistic energy. We have strong morals, and we’re champions for the truth. We’re also ready for a hearty debate. Given the space to find our own way, we can move mountains. In fact, we enjoy stretching our limits. It’s an inspiring, forward-looking period when we follow our hearts and positive visions of the future.
Mars is in Capricorn from December 15, 2025-January 23, 2026. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. Our energy is reliable, careful, reserved, and faithful. We are slow to anger but can be quite cold and irritable if frustrated.
Skepticism and realism are themes. We are thorough and precise. Orderliness, discipline, self-reliance, and planning well can be in focus. We dislike waste, sloppiness, and excess. Our ambitions are clear, and our actions are measured and careful. We need to feel that we’re in control and on top of things. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity, negativity, or dryness.

Jupiter is in Cancer.
Jupiter began its transit of Cancer on June 9th, 2025, and will continue its visit to the sign until June 30th, 2026. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Cancer.

Saturn is in Pisces. Saturn was in Aries from May 24th, 2025 to September 1st, 2025, and will be in Aries again from February 13th, 2026, to April 12th, 2028. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aries. Saturn isn’t yet completely done with its transit of Pisces. Saturn transits Pisces from March 7th, 2023 until May 24th, 2025, and currently, from Sep 1st, 2025, to Feb 13th, 2026. Read about Saturn’s transit of Pisces.)

Uranus has returned to Taurus.
Uranus is in Gemini from July 7th to November 7th, 2025, from April 25, 2026, to August 3, 2032, and then from December 12, 2032, to May 22, 2033. Read about Uranus in Gemini in its calendar page.
Uranus has more work to do in the sign of Taurus from November 7th, 2025, to April 25th, 2026. Uranus began in Taurus in 2018/2019. During this cycle, we approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

Pluto is in Aquarius. Read about Pluto’s transit of Aquarius. Note that Pluto finally completed its journey through Capricorn on November 19th, 2024, from which time Pluto stays in Aquarius for many years to come.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Sagittarius from November 30-December 24. As Venus moves from Scorpio to Sagittarius, romantic energy changes from intense to buoyant. Gone are the intricacy and complexity of the Venus-in-Scorpio phase. Truth and higher meaning are focal points for Sagittarius.
Venus in Sagittarius is forward-looking, not very specific, outgoing, and energetic. Freedom is most important in our love relationships now. We take a happy and enthusiastic approach to love, and we might find too much intensity or seriousness depressing. We have a taste for the exotic as well as for adventure with Venus in Sagittarius.
This position’s shadow side is restlessness, the inability to “settle down,” and endless searching for something bigger and “better.”
This week: On Sunday, the 14th, we could be looking for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousies and insecurities are more prominent in our relationships.
On Thursday, although we can experience some indecision or a disconnect between what we want to do and what we think we should do, we’re open to connecting and bonding with one another.
Friday brings a layer of intensity to our feelings and interactions. Themes of sharing and trust dominate in relationships. However, we can reach an impasse or obstacle on Saturday. There can be a checkpoint moment for our relationships. Temporarily, we fear the worst and see the flaws. There can be some emotional distance or blockage, and ideally, it’s a time for reaching a new level of maturity and realism in our relationships. Relationship goals can very much clash with our duties or responsibilities.
On Saturday, the 20th,
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Sagittarius A yearning for adventure and far horizons stirs in you now. To roam, to wander and wonder, to seek freedom and go where no one has gone before – these things are deep and powerful longings. A time of romantic crusades, a universal love that might not be too particular.
Venus square North Node of the Moon December 10-11. Social niceties go by the wayside, and we may be working at cross-purposes with our relationships or relationship goals. There can be a lack of agreement, dissatisfaction stirred up, and a sense that our relationships are preventing our growth.
Venus semi-square Pluto December 14. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus trine Chiron December 18. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings.
Venus quincunx Jupiter December 18. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is with us now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomachs. Troubles in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.
Venus parallel Pluto December 19. The desire for drama and intensity in relationships is with us. Love feelings and relationship issues can be all-consuming now, assuming more importance in our lives than usual. Interactions with others are intense now, and themes of sharing and trust dominate in relationships.
Venus square Saturn December 20-21. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus quincunx Uranus December 22-23. Impulsive spending, peculiar attractions, fear of commitment, freedom vs. intimacy issues. We might question whether we need more excitement in our relationships, or whether we need freedom from them; yet we don’t feel confident enough to rock the boat.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, December 14th, from 10:36 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 10:51 PM EST.
VOC on Wednesday, December 17th, from 10:24 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Neptune), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 11:39 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Friday, December 19th, from 10:41 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 11:53 PM EST.
December 2025
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the 19th, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, although with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waxing after the New Moon on the 19th, which is typically considered favorable for new beginnings, also with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs on Sunday, December 14th, from approximately 10:35 AM to 10:30 PM EST, while the Moon is in Libra.
The next window will occur early next week, from Sunday, December 21st, at approximately 9:30 PM EST, until Monday, December 22nd, at approximately 9:40 AM EST, while the Moon is in Capricorn.

Mars square Neptune. Inspiration comes from unusual sources, but you have a hard time staying focused and organized. Energy may be variable. Intuition is strong, but may be faulty. Not a good time to begin a new project or affair.
![]()
![]()
Sun trine Chiron. A sense of purpose or a “mission” is with us now, increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong. Problem solving is favored.
![]()
![]()
Venus semi-square Pluto. This influence can point to some underlying tensions in social interactions (looking for an ulterior motive or an agenda, suspiciousness) and relationships (possible jealousies). Passions run high and hot, but there’s a hidden agenda. Manipulation can color relationships now. Avoid power plays with friends and lovers.
![]()
![]()
Sun inconjunct (quincunx) Jupiter. The desire to experience something new or for more freedom to explore can amount to restlessness if we don’t know what it is we want. This is a time of adjustments, and perhaps of letting go of old habits, so that we can free ourselves up for different experiences.
![]()
![]()
Sun square Saturn. As we face obstacles to our goals, we begin to see the tools with which we have to overcome them. A heavy dose of realism seems forced upon us under this influence, but our efforts to measure up to expectations can ultimately increase our confidence in our ability to be responsible for ourselves. This influence is a somber one.
![]()
![]()
Mercury sesquiquadrate Chiron. Communications may be careless, hurtful or perceived as hurtful under this influence. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. There may be impatience with rules, worry or guilty feelings, and conflicting viewpoints now.

Mercury sesquiquadrate Jupiter. We experience information overload, and we neglect to consider details. People tend to exaggerate today.

Venus trine Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses, and are less inclined to see fault, or to concern ourselves with fault. It’s a strong time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another.

Venus quincunx Jupiter. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is emphasized now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomach. Challenges in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.

Sun quincunx Uranus. Surprise elements make us feel out of control of our lives or the direction we would like to take. Disrupted plans or schedules. Unexpected events or change of plans.

Sun square Neptune. Concentrating on artistic or spiritual pursuits is better than focusing on things that require straightforward, factual thinking today. It can be difficult knowing where or how to direct your willpower under this influence. It’s also a challenge knowing where you stand with others. Avoid such things as scheduling surgery, important appointments, job interviews, or launches of new projects at this time.

DECEMBER 14
Mars forms a square with Neptune today, and we may struggle to focus on our priorities. Energy is up and down, particularly if inspiration wavers. Motivation or energy levels may wane as we feel overwhelmed with possibilities and uncertain about our next step. Desires are hard to pin down. Instead, inspiration comes from unusual sources. There can be a change of course or a break from the action. With this transit, we should watch for difficulties with boundaries and limits. Attempts to take the easy way out will probably backfire. From disappointment, however, we can find the motivation to make improvements.
The Sun forms a quincunx with Jupiter, and we can feel torn between two ideas or drives, perhaps see-sawing between alternatives. It can be challenging to arrive at satisfying conclusions. It’s a time of adjustment and letting go of old habits to free ourselves for new experiences. Ideally, with the Sun’s trine with Chiron, we see the opportunities to learn, grow, and improve, mainly through spontaneity, self-assertion, and courage. With less concern about who’s right or wrong, we’re open to learning and growing. Our egos don’t get in the way, helping us make real progress. The chance to find a sense of purpose or a “mission” can arise now, increasing our confidence.
The Moon is void today from 10:36 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 10:51 PM EST.
DECEMBER 15
Mars enters Capricorn today, where it will transit until January 23rd. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent, and faithful energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. We are slow to anger but can be pretty cold if frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity or excessive materialism.
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Scorpio. While we may be dealing with fears and resentments around the time the Moon forms a square with Pluto early today, the Scorpio Moon is good for researching, investigating, and getting to the bottom of matters. The Sun’s parallel to Pluto adds an additional layer of intensity to the day and brings the desire for self-mastery to our attention.
DECEMBER 16
The Sun’s square to Saturn today stimulates caution, marking a time to face reality or the practical side of a situation and assume more responsibility. Sacrifices may be necessary, and we might face blocks or challenges. But while we may face obstacles, this puts us in the position to recognize our ability to overcome them, inspiring a sense of empowerment and confidence.
We can feel underestimated, unrecognized, unlucky, or unrewarded! We should watch for setting unattainable standards for ourselves, others, and situations. Our commitment to downtime can temporarily interfere with interpersonal connections. Certainly, we can experience lowered vitality at this time. Generally, it’s best to conserve energy and downplay the ego rather than fight or push things under this influence.
Saturn forms a square with Juno, and the Sun heads toward an alignment with Juno. We seek to strengthen and support each other and build trust in the process, and we take greater pride in our relationships. While it’s an ambitious time, our goals, plans, or responsibilities may seem at cross-purposes with our close relationships temporarily.
DECEMBER 17
The Moon is void from 10:24 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Neptune), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 11:39 AM EST.
DECEMBER 18
DECEMBER 19
The Moon is void from 10:41 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 11:53 PM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Libra
![]()
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
![]()
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
![]()
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
![]()
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Sagittarius You’re now embarking on a trek into a land of dreams – not passive daydreams, but vibrant visions of what may be. The time has come to stop looking at the world as it is and asking why. Now’s the time to imagine the world as it could be, and the question has become: “Why not?” You also cannot do everything you imagine now, but you cannot do anything you don’t KNOW you can do – so believe, and dare to make it happen! This means expanding your mind, your belief system, your whole base of knowledge and experience. Time’s a wastin’ – let no grass grow between your toes!
Mercury in Sagittarius A time of expanding your mental horizons is at hand. Religion, philosophy, law, and education are some of the things that may have special importance for you now. Being in touch with faraway people and places satisfies an intellectual yearning – curiosity will take you anywhere and maybe everywhere.
Venus in Sagittarius A yearning for adventure and far horizons stirs in you now. To roam, to wander and wonder, to seek freedom and go where no one has gone before – these things are deep and powerful longings. A time of romantic crusades, a universal love that might not be too particular.
Mars in Sagittarius Ideology is a keynote of the new phase you have begun – the power of ideas and the power they wield over people. Religious, cultural, or philosophical controversies and crusades have a way of stirring your blood. Travel and adventure are compelling temptations as you dare to test your mettle and stretch your horizons.
Mars in Capricorn With this new cycle taking hold in your life now, taking charge and being in control become more important issues for you. You want to get things organized, and you have the initiative to do it. This is a time of ambition and responsibility, a time to keep your cool and pace yourself. Working hard is smart, but working smart is better.
Jupiter in Cancer Taking care of yourself and all that’s yours becomes a high priority in your life now. Security, setting down roots, establishing your ties with the past: these things are among the articles of faith that guide you. This is often a sign of growth in all things connected with family and property (such as real estate).
Saturn in Pisces Making peace with the past, coming to terms with karmic debts: these are some of the issues that confront you as a new phase begins in your life. Failure to face these things can cause setbacks and put obstacles in your path. Learn to look beyond the narrowly personal and selfish or you’ll get in over your head.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
