The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at 6:21 AM EDT.
The First Quarter Moon occurs on Wednesday morning when the Sun in Aries forms a square with the Cancer Moon. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon last week is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 12 degrees and 9 minutes of Cancer square the Sun at 12 degrees and 9 minutes of Aries, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 10 to 14 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Aries; Mercury is in Pisces; Venus is in Taurus until April 3rd, after which Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Capricorn until March 30th, after which Mars is in Aquarius.
The Sun is in Aries from March 19/20-April 19. In Aries, the Sun is enthusiastic and spontaneous. We are motivated by the desire to conquer. We are more impulsive, and have the urge to initiate. Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little shame with Aries. It is brave and pioneering, and somewhat innocent. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted and lack the desire to plan ahead.
Mercury is in Pisces from February 3-March 4 and then March 16-April 11. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
Venus is in Taurus from March 4-April 3. In Taurus, Venus is very sensual (naturally), content, and possessive. We seek security and value that which lasts. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the here and the now as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own. On the financial side, Venus in Taurus looks for high-quality, solid, practical, and long-lasting items. Holding on to our possessions is more likely now.
Venus is in Gemini from April 3-August 7. In Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the attitude now. We are sociable, communicative, and interested. We can be animated and fun but may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions now may begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level with Venus in Gemini. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness.
Mars is in Capricorn from February 16-March 30. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. Our energy is reliable and faithful. We are slow to anger, but can be quite cold if we are frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity.
Mars is in Aquarius from March 30-May 13. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit or miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players–cooperative and less concerned about personal power. We are attracted to unconventional methods, and tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective.
Jupiter entered Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
In 2020, Saturn divides its time between the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here. Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July, 1, 2020, and then later, from December 17, 2020, to March 7, 2023.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Taurus from March 4-April 3. In Taurus, Venus is usually quite content, but can be possessive. We seek security and value things that last. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the “here and the now” as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own.
Venus is in Gemini from April 3-August 7. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Fickleness with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates. Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: On Friday and Saturday, we’re seeking predictability and valuing that which lasts. We may get the chance to stabilize a relationship or make a commitment.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Taurus A love of music, an appreciation for sensual pleasures and others of the finer things in life – such are the signs of the cycle which has begun for you. This is aesthetic and artistic to be sure, but it is also practical and materialistic: you develop a keen appreciation for the value of things, including the money it takes to buy them.
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus trine Pluto March 28. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships are intense and deep, but not draining.
Venus trine Saturn April 3-4. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism and maturity in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor, and have much potential to last.
Venus semi-square the Sun April 8. Inner discontent can spill over into our relationships, producing subtle tension. It’s best to get in touch with our needs and avoid overindulging or procrastinating.
Venus sextile Chiron April 10. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, March 30th, from 11:11 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Tuesday, March 31st, at 7:44 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, April 2nd, from 12:50 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Leo at 2:27 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, April 3rd, from 3:30 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to the Sun), until the Moon enters Virgo the next day, Saturday, April 4th, at 5:19 PM EDT.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mars conjunct Saturn. Feelings of being blocked are possible, as enthusiasm meets with realism. Work takes on definite shape, and we can see results from our efforts. This gives us a sense of responsibility and a feeling of directedness and purposefulness. This is a good time to temper our energy and to exercise better judgment. It’s also a strong period for getting and feeling organized. Seniority is favored now. Traditional methods work, and thoroughness brings rewards. Pushing ahead, however, can be costly or could result in frustration, as “slow and steady” is the only way to go now.
Mercury semi-square Saturn. Red tape, re-doing tasks we thought we had finished, problems getting from point A to point B, delays in communication, negative thinking, hyper-sensitivity and criticism–these are all potentials now. The energy is best used for focusing on fixing errors rather than harping on how irritating they are!
Mercury semi-square Mars. We are quick-witted and ready to argue under this influence. We may be working under stressful or hectic conditions, as we feel pressure to get things done quickly. We are inclined to be snappy and irritable, and we may too easily interrupt others rather than listen. Conflicts of interest are likely.
Mercury conjunct Neptune. Our intuitive creativity is stimulated under this influence. A very positive transit for artistic and literary endeavors. We get insights into our own minds. Conscious reasoning can be distorted by subconscious matter, so concentrating on cold hard facts can be challenging. Daydreaming, visualization, and prophecy are stimulated. Communications may be unclear, vague, or downright confused. We may be subject to deception. Avoid signing contracts under this influence.
Venus trine Saturn. Affections stabilize and mature. Affections stabilize and mature. Maturity with others allows us to take the bad with the good, and finds us seeing our relationships realistically. Small advances can be made in business and in partnerships through strengthening and bonding. Support from older people or authority figures may come by way of solid advice or more tangible help. Renewed ties to old friends are possible, or a new sense of responsibility can be felt in existing friendships. Business sense is good.
Mercury semi-square Uranus. We can have flashes of insight, but tend to be scatterbrained. Our ideas and communications may not be well-received because they don’t seem to others to carry weight. Our minds are not peaceful or harmonious under this influence, and irritable tempers, sarcastic speech, and dogmatism are negative expressions of this energy.
Jupiter conjunct Pluto. An increased need for shared interests with others, as well as for adventurous or risky undertakings, is with us now as we strive for more personal significance. Benefits may come now through those in authority or the government. It can be a time of personal growth and expansion. This can be an ambitious time when a desire for success is especially strong. The ability to sway or persuade can be enhanced. One of the most positive uses of this transit is a drive to better ourselves. We might solve a problem that has been in existence for some time, or capitalize upon a resource that was previously hidden. Social or material goals may come into strong focus, and reform could figure now. Our faith may be reborn or developed strongly now. We might decide to invest our time and energy (and possibly money) into an ambitious new project. We should take advantage of the increased drive this transit brings, but avoid tendencies towards self-righteousness, exaggeration, and obsession. This transit generally favors big business, the law, grants, taxes, education, and commerce. Increased influence, faith, and insight are likely now.

MARCH 29
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Gemini, and communicating, thinking, and learning are in sharp focus. We can experience a high need for variety and intellectual stimulation now. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, although it can also be restless and fickle. The day is particularly suitable for cooperation and approaching our relationships differently. We’re also taking more care with getting the right message across, and this extra attention to our choice of words and topics can be rewarding.
MARCH 30
Mars enters Aquarius today, where it will transit until May 13th. We tend to act only when we can entirely get behind or believe in what we are doing during this cycle. As such, we might spend more time thinking about action than taking it. However, we’re crusaders for our ideas and causes. Our energy levels can be erratic but dynamic, and we might express our anger impersonally. We are team players during this cycle, as we’re less concerned with personal power. We are attracted to unconventional methods and tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective. We can feel thwarted, blocked, or slowed down, and enthusiasm is likely to wane just for now as Mars is about to align with Saturn, exact tomorrow morning. Delays are possible but might lead to necessary edits and adjustments and better new beginnings. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Gemini, stimulating our curiosity and encouraging connection.
The void Moon occurs from 11:11 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Cancer tomorrow, Tuesday, March 31st, at 7:44 AM EDT.
MARCH 31
Mars aligns with Saturn today, both of which are rather newly in the sign of Aquarius. The need to take practical action or to fill a responsibility can emerge. A stronger sense of purpose and direction can come to us, although we can also feel confined or obligated under this influence. There can be a reality check of sorts now, as realism now tempers our enthusiasm. A block or obstacle can enforce pacing ourselves. We may be called to task for a responsibility. However, a stronger sense of responsibility, purpose, and direction can come to us now. We might exercise better judgment as a result of developing circumstances. Traditional methods work better than less conventional ones at the moment, and thoroughness brings rewards. Pushing ahead, however, can be costly or could result in frustration, as “slow and steady” seems to be the best approach currently. This is an excellent time to get organized and to stick with projects through to the end. A Mercury-Saturn minor square that perfects early tomorrow suggests some critical or skeptical energy continuing as the day advances. Still, with Pluto and Pallas in alignment, it can be a strong time for strategy and insight. We are wise, and willing to invest our energy into solving problems. Our natural talents, as well as acquired resources, are in the spotlight. This is a good time for healing, regenerative activities, particularly to do with the mind/thinking. We should watch for attempts to manipulate others to adopt or accept our plans, however. The Moon continues to transit Gemini until 7:44 AM EDT, after which the Moon is in Cancer.
The void Moon continues until it enters Cancer at 7:44 AM EDT.
APRIL 1
Mercury forms a semi-square to Saturn this morning, and later, a semi-square to Mars. Yesterday’s Mars-Saturn alignment lingers, and we can be somewhat tense, abrupt, critical, or argumentative. Responsibilities are on our minds. We should watch for speaking too soon or too quickly, and hasty decisions should also be avoided. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Cancer. Its more defensive side may surface with Mercury under strain, but the Cancer Moon is also protective and warm. We’re seeking comfort and safety. Later today, a responsible theme emerges with the Sun-Saturn quintile. We tend to sort, categorize, and create order now. There can be a willingness to make sacrifices if it seems the best way to make improvements.
APRIL 2
The Moon continues its transit of Cancer until 2:27 PM EDT when it enters Leo. The Moon forms many oppositions today–to Jupiter and Pluto while the Moon is in Cancer, and then to Saturn and Mars while the Moon is in Leo. Our emotional needs and personal life seem pitted against our responsibilities and possibly even our ideals in spots today. We’re inclined to want to find a personal pursuit and give it special attention, but we can be frustrated by little things that go wrong or that pull us away from our interests. We might feel some tension as our drives to perform or the demands of our responsibilities serve as contrasts. These aspects remind us of the need to find the right balance between our personal and public lives or between play and discipline. The Leo Moon tends to bring us out of our shells. We seek more interactivity and feedback.
The void Moon occurs from 12:50 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Leo at 2:27 PM EDT.
APRIL 3
Venus enters Gemini today, where it will transit for much longer than usual due to an upcoming retrograde. Venus is in Gemini until August 7th, and during this cycle, Venus will be retrograde in Gemini from May 13-June 25. With Venus in Gemini, curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. We seek variety, and we’re especially sociable, engaged, interested, and communicative. We have a strong sense of fun but may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions now may begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level with Venus in Gemini, but we can also be rather fickle with our affections and pleasures. The Moon is in Leo all day, awakening our creativity, generosity, and desire to share. We take more pride in our accomplishments. Mercury and Neptune align today, and we can more effectively ease some tension or release mental blocks. It can be a day of interesting ideas, tastes, conversations, and musings. We’re more inclined to apply our intuition to everyday issues and problems. Communications can be inspired and inspirational, quite fanciful, or vague and unclear, and possibly deceptive.
The void Moon occurs from 3:30 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to the Sun), until the Moon enters Virgo the next day, Saturday, April 4th, at 5:19 PM EDT.
APRIL 4
Jupiter aligns with Pluto today, sparking a growing need for shared interests or for taking on a challenge as we strive for more significance. This longer-term influence will recur in June when Jupiter and Pluto are retrograde, and then later, when both bodies are direct, in November. It can be an ambitious time when a desire for success, growth, and development is especially strong. One of the most positive uses of this transit is a drive to better ourselves and the world around us. We might solve a problem that has been in existence for some time, or capitalize upon a resource that was previously hidden. Social or material goals may come into sharp focus, and reform could figure strongly now. We’re learning to make the most of our resources, and we’re dealing with change and transformation with more confidence and faith. Making the most of changing circumstances is powerful. This can also be a time of finding more meaning in our work and/or recognizing and practicing more of our principles and values in our work, career, and business. Our faith may be reborn or developed further. We might decide to invest our time and energy (and possibly money) into an ambitious new project. We should take advantage of the increased drive that this transit brings, but avoid tendencies towards self-righteousness, exaggeration, and obsession. Themes of increased influence and insight are prominent. Also today, Venus forms a trine to Saturn, and it’s useful for sorting out our feelings. We’re approaching love, relationships, money, or pleasure-seeking in a more mature, responsible, and level-headed way. It’s a good day for stabilizing relations, as well as for demonstrating our affection through practical support, service, and shows of loyalty. This influence reminds us of the value of constancy and reliability. It can also be a time when we’re enjoying our responsibilities, work, or duties more than usual–a theme reinforced by the Jupiter-Pluto conjunction in responsible Capricorn. However, a Mercury-Uranus introduces some surprises or scattered communications and unformed ideas into the day. The Moon continues its transit of confident Leo until 5:19 PM when it enters particular Virgo.
The Moon continues its void period until 5:19 PM EDT today when the Moon enters Virgo.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
When the Moon is in Leo
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Aries A new sense of self, a more assertive personal style, a more dynamic approach to life: these are the hallmarks of the cycle that begins for you now. Doubts fade into the background, and reserve is more and more a thing of the past. It’s time for action; your destiny is in your hands, rather than set apart. Full speed ahead (“and damn the torpedoes”) is your motto now, for better or for worse!
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular. A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Mars in Capricorn With this new cycle taking hold in your life now, taking charge and being in control become more important issues for you. You want to get things organized, and you have the initiative to do it. This is a time of ambition and responsibility, a time to keep your cool and pace yourself. Working hard is smart, but working smart is better.
Mars in Aquarius The reformer, the inventor, the engineer, the revolutionary – these are important archetypes for you as a new cycle gets underway in your life. They are icons of the ambitions that stir you at a time like this. Independence, freedom from past patterns, and a daring readiness to innovate: such are the paths of achievement for you now.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
