The NEW MOON occurs on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at 5:28 AM EDT.
On Tuesday morning, the New Moon in Aries occurs and marks the beginning of a new cycle. The New Moon in Aries is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Ram. It’s time to take action – try something new and innovative, and go at it with gusto and confidence; be assertive without being abrasive; take charge of our lives; start a brand new project, and discover our own personal courage.
This is a strong cycle under which to re-evaluate our relationship to ourselves. With this potent Aries energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. It’s time to make some solid yet realistic plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs.
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and thus a New Moon in Aries is especially ripe with opportunity for new beginnings. We might consider acting on a constructive impulse and following a hunch or taking a risk. Aries learns through experience and action, so we might treat ourselves to a little adventure now. It’s also a good cycle under which to discover the benefits of expressing ourselves with authenticity – expressing ourselves as we are, without putting on airs. We might also find ways to learn how to rely on ourselves and to be happy about doing so – it will go a long way towards finding inner happiness when we know that we can be self-sufficient without blaming others for not helping us out. It’s a time to revitalize ourselves through experiences that break the routine and that involve doing something new and fresh.
However, the New Moon forms a square to the Nodes of the Moon, suggesting some obstacles to clear as we wrestle with whether our new beginnings support our growth. As well, Mars, the ruler of Aries is found between Saturn and Pluto, suggesting some frustration. We can feel hemmed in or blocked.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 4 degrees and 12 minutes of Aries, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 8 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, and Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Aries; Mercury is in Pisces; Venus is in Taurus; Mars is in Capricorn.
The Sun is in Aries from March 19/20-April 19. In Aries, the Sun is enthusiastic and spontaneous. We are motivated by the desire to conquer. We are more impulsive, and have the urge to initiate. Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little shame with Aries. It is brave and pioneering, and somewhat innocent. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted and lack the desire to plan ahead.
Mercury is in Pisces from February 3-March 4 and then March 16-April 11. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
Venus is in Taurus from March 4-April 3. In Taurus, Venus is very sensual (naturally), content, and possessive. We seek security and value that which lasts. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the here and the now as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own. On the financial side, Venus in Taurus looks for high-quality, solid, practical, and long-lasting items. Holding on to our possessions is more likely now.
Mars is in Capricorn from February 16-March 30. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. Our energy is reliable and faithful. We are slow to anger, but can be quite cold if we are frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity.
Jupiter entered Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
In 2020, Saturn divides its time between the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here. Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July, 1, 2020, and then later, from December 17, 2020, to March 7, 2023.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Taurus from March 4-April 3. In Taurus, Venus is usually quite content, but can be possessive. We seek security and value things that last. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the “here and the now” as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own.
This week: Sunday’s energies are good for seeing people we love in a better or more compassionate light. There can be some emotional distancing on Monday and Tuesday as we sort out our issues. Thursday’s energies are complicated but powerful for embracing our feelings as well as for affectionate displays. On Saturday, our willingness to go all in can improve a key relationship. Strong attractions and powerful feelings are likely.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Taurus A love of music, an appreciation for sensual pleasures and others of the finer things in life – such are the signs of the cycle which has begun for you. This is aesthetic and artistic to be sure, but it is also practical and materialistic: you develop a keen appreciation for the value of things, including the money it takes to buy them.
Venus contra-parallel Saturn March 21-22. We may express our affection sparingly, but also responsibly and in practical ways. Relationships begun under this influence often feel burdensome over time, but they may last longer than most. Some pulling back can occur in relationships now, as we are more self-conscious and cautious with our affections.
Venus sextile Neptune March 22. Unusual attractions that add imagination, inspiration, and emotional “color” to our lives may occur now. We are attuned to the subtleties of human interaction, and we are more inclined to naturally cooperate with others. An imaginative, romantic time.
Venus semi-square Chiron March 23-24. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves.
Venus contraparallel Mars March 26. Passions are stimulated and intense. Fine line between love and hate. Competitiveness. Questions are raised or ultimatums made.
Venus trine Jupiter March 26. Harmony and good will reign under this influence. Expansive feelings in love, and a feeling that anything is possible if we set our sights high enough, are experienced now. We are friendly, big-hearted, sociable, and optimistic. It is easy to make social contacts under this influence. Cheerfulness, trust, and confidence in love and social matters.
Venus contraparallel Pluto March 26. Romantic intensity, a feeling of fatedness, possessiveness, fear of betrayal, and insecurity in relationships. Questions of trust can emerge in relationships. Looking for a commitment.
Venus trine Pluto March 28. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships are intense and deep, but not draining.
Venus trine Saturn April 3-4. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism and maturity in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor, and have much potential to last.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, March 23rd, from 10:52 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Aries at 8:59 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, March 26th, from 3:17 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Taurus at 9:37 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, March 28th, from 7:06 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mars), until the Moon enters Gemini at 9:39 PM EDT.
March 2020:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week until Tuesday’s New Moon, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). After the New Moon on the 24th, the Moon is waxing, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, again with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Saturday, March 21st, at approximately 8:40 AM EDT, until Monday, March 23rd, at approximately 10:50 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Pisces. Even so, this period ends with a sextile to Mars, which is not always desirable. Another similar window occurs from Thursday, March 26th, at approximately 11:20 AM, until Saturday, March 28th, at approximately 7:00 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Taurus.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury sextile Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue”. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding.
Venus sextile Neptune. We are more imaginative and attuned to the world of beauty and romance today. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level is possible now.
Mars conjunct Pluto. This is a powerful aspect that helps us to focus on our goals, to take decisive action, and to go after what we want. We won’t take “no” for an answer. We might totally revise something, or we could be bent on getting rid of something in our lives in order to move forward. We might be too forceful or willful just now. We should also watch for overdoing to the point of exhaustion. This can be a compulsive time when power struggles are more likely. On the other hand, it can be a time when we enjoy a strong sense of purposefulness.
Venus semi-square Chiron. Blocks to intimacy are possible now as we focus on differences rather than similarities in our relationships with others. We might have a hard time learning from one another as a result.
Sun conjunct Chiron. An opportunity to find a sense of purpose or a “mission” arises now, increasing our confidence. Alternatively, we might face life lessons that get us in touch with the insecurities that hold us back from feeling confident. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong. Problem solving is favored.
Mercury semi-square Jupiter. We experience information overload, and we neglect to consider details. People tend to exaggerate today. Monotonous mental tasks are harder to take under this influence. Our minds are restless.
Mercury semi-square Pluto. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress, trouble, or pressure.
Venus trine Jupiter. Friendliness and optimism characterize this transit. We are big-hearted and our feelings are expansive. The outlook is cheerful and hopeful and the atmosphere is cooperative. This is a sociable, perhaps lazy and self-indulgent, time. We easily find meaning in our social connections. We are more open and trusting of friends and lovers. Integrity and loyalty are favored. A favorable influence for winning people’s trust. Speculation, advertising, publishing, and travel are favored.
Venus trine Pluto. An excellent time for finances and for relationships, all things equal. Our feelings are intense and impassioned, but not in an offensive or destructive way. The need to share on deeper levels is strong now. A spiritual regeneration through love is possible.

MARCH 22
Mercury forms a sextile to Uranus today, encouraging alternative approaches and new ideas, as well as scientific thinking. Intuition is strong, and insights are quick and exciting. Original, creative ideas come naturally. We can take advantage of this by solving problems in new, innovative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding, and ideas to do so abound. Later today, Venus forms a sextile to Neptune, encouraging us to cut through some of the tension. We are looking to see the best in people with this transit. We tend to approach one another more gently and sensitively than usual with this transit. We are inclined to see spiritual dimensions of our relationships and to treat others with increased compassion. This influence encourages us to open up and embrace loving feelings. It also detaches us just enough from our feelings that we’re less possessive. The Moon spending the day in Pisces boosts this energy. Even so, tension is building in other areas of our lives as Mars approaches a conjunction to Pluto, exact early tomorrow morning but influencing today. We can experience strong desires to take action on a matter, but impatience or pushiness could trip us up if we are not careful. Ideally, with this mixed bag of energies, we know where to ease off and where to apply the pressure for the best results. The Mars-Pluto alignment occurs in the sign of Capricorn – ambitious, determined energy for building or rebuilding. This powerful aspect occurs approximately every two years. We should also watch for buried resentments and anger driving our actions and the tendency to ignore reason. However, well channeled, this energy can bring increased focus and motivation. We dare to go after what we want and to take decisive action. We might entirely revise or rebuild something from the ground up, break something down to start anew, or we may be determined to put a difficult situation behind us so that we can move forward. We might be too forceful or willful, however. We should also watch for overdoing to the point of exhaustion. This can be a compulsive time when power struggles are more likely. We can be tested to the limits. Positively, it can be a time when we enjoy a strong sense of purposefulness.
MARCH 23
Mars aligns with Pluto very early today, exciting our ambitions but perhaps also our fears. Jupiter forms a quintile with Chiron this morning as well, helping us to gain perspective. This long-term transit will occur again in June and November, following alongside the Jupiter-Neptune sextile and upcoming Jupiter-Pluto conjunction. It helps open our minds to others’ struggles and facilitates explaining our perspective to others. We’re more willing to learn and grow through our experiences. Both Jupiter and Chiron are useful for seeing the whole of a situation, making holistic problem-solving particularly rewarding and successful as these bodies connect through a creative aspect. We’re absorbing and sharing what we’ve learned from past experiences and mistakes. It’s time for listening to the wisdom of those who have the experience. The Pisces Moon harmonizes with the Jupiter, Pluto, and Mars configuration, suggesting we’re getting a healthy distance from our ambitions and working with them instead of letting them work against us later morning. The Moon enters Aries at 8:59 PM EDT, and we’re seeking freshness. Still, the Moon is Balsamic with a New Moon occurring tomorrow morning, and it’s essential to take in rather than push forward just for now.
The void Moon occurs from 10:52 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Mars), until the Moon enters Aries at 8:59 PM EDT.
MARCH 24
The New Moon occurs in the sign of Aries this morning at 5:29 AM EDT. With this new beginning, we’re in an excellent position to consider a commitment to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Ram. We might feel prompted to try something new and innovative, and go at it with enthusiasm and confidence, take charge of our lives, and discover our courage. This is a strong cycle under which to re-evaluate our relationship with ourselves. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, and thus a New Moon in Aries is especially ripe with opportunity for new beginnings. We might consider acting on a constructive impulse and following a hunch since Aries learns through experience and action. It’s also a good cycle under which to discover the benefits of expressing ourselves with authenticity – expressing ourselves as we are, without putting on airs. We might find ways to learn how to rely on ourselves and happily doing so. It will go a long way towards finding inner happiness when we know that we can be self-sufficient without blaming others for not helping us out. It’s a time to revitalize ourselves through experiences that break the routine and that involve doing something new and fresh. The New Moon forms a square to the Nodes of the Moon, suggesting some obstacles to clear as we wrestle with whether our new beginnings support our growth. As well, Mars, the ruler of Aries, is found between Saturn and Pluto, suggesting some frustration. We can feel hemmed in or blocked. However, this can also lead to creative solutions for expressing ourselves in new ways. A Venus-Chiron semi-square this morning suggests we’re inclined to focus on differences rather than similarities in our relationships, which works for us only if we make a concerted effort to learn from the differences. Fortunately, as the day advances and we head toward a Sun-Chiron alignment, we feel more open to the process.
MARCH 25
The Sun and Chiron align in the sign of Aries this morning, and this can pull up an opportunity to find a sense of purpose, increasing our confidence. Still, we might face life lessons that get us in touch with the insecurities that undercut our confidence. In fact, the way to grow and succeed seems to be about facing our fears. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and others is active now, and problem-solving is favored. This can be a time of building faith or confidence in our skills and talents. Openness and self-honesty are vital now, and the focus may be on asserting ourselves and acknowledging our own needs in healthy doses so that we can bring our “whole self” to our activities. The Moon continues its transit of Aries all day, and we’re forward-looking and ready for a fresh start.
MARCH 26
The Moon continues its transit of assertive Aries until 9:37 AM EDT, after which the Moon transits steady, practical Taurus. Mercury’s semi-square to Jupiter impacts our perceptions and decision-making today as we try to make sense of the information before us and attempt to find meaning in it. While we tend to inflate the good of a situation with this influence, Mercury’s also approaching a semi-square to Pluto, suggesting fear or suspicion is growing as the day advances. Either way, we may not be seeing things very clearly temporarily. Still, we might gain an advantage or edge through design, solving problems, and willingness to challenge ourselves.
The void Moon occurs from 3:17 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Taurus at 9:37 AM EDT.
MARCH 27
Mercury forms a semi-square to Pluto this morning, and we should watch for the taking on of too many interests or activities. Exaggerating our importance or power, either to ourselves or others, is best avoided. This transit can generate some tension or mental distress and worry. We can be inclined toward obsessing over an issue that we can’t control. We’re somewhat skeptical or mistrustful under this influence. However, if we harness the energy and use it for good, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. As the day advances, Venus heads toward a trine to Jupiter, exact very early tomorrow. This transit generates friendly energy and stimulates our desire for the ideal, lifting our spirits. It helps to both soften and strengthen us. We are big-hearted, and our feelings are big, begging expression. Gestures tend to be thoughtful, and we’re particularly hopeful, cheerful, and cooperative. It can be a somewhat lazy or self-indulgent time. Our tolerance for rudeness or crassness decreases. We are especially open and trusting of others, expecting the best, and both integrity and loyalty are favored. Tomorrow, Venus forms the same harmonious aspect with Pluto, making it a uniquely rich period for relating. The Moon spends the day in the sign of content, persevering Taurus.
MARCH 28
Venus forms a trine to Pluto today, and the need to share or enjoy life on deeper levels is strong now. This influence helps us get in touch with what we most love and cherish, and it aids us in narrowing our focus to our advantage. We seek to grow, improve, or develop our attachments. We are more strategic and can see the value of patience. We might gain new insight into business and personal relationships now. The Moon continues its transit of stable, sensual Taurus until 9:39 PM EDT, after which the Moon moves through curious and communicative Gemini. Today’s energies are particularly strong for problem-solving and for having more faith in one another.
The void Moon occurs from 7:06 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mars), until the Moon enters Gemini at 9:39 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Aries A new sense of self, a more assertive personal style, a more dynamic approach to life: these are the hallmarks of the cycle that begins for you now. Doubts fade into the background, and reserve is more and more a thing of the past. It’s time for action; your destiny is in your hands, rather than set apart. Full speed ahead (“and damn the torpedoes”) is your motto now, for better or for worse!
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
Mars in Capricorn With this new cycle taking hold in your life now, taking charge and being in control become more important issues for you. You want to get things organized, and you have the initiative to do it. This is a time of ambition and responsibility, a time to keep your cool and pace yourself. Working hard is smart, but working smart is better.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
