The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Monday, March 16, 2020, at 5:34 AM EDT.
On Monday morning, the Last Quarter Moon is exact when the Sun in Pisces forms a square with the Moon in Sagittarius. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?
This phase of the Moon occurs at 26 degrees and 16 minutes of Sagittarius forming a square with the Sun at 26 degrees and 16 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 24 to 28 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Pisces until March 19/20 when it enters Aries; Mercury is in Aquarius until March 16th, after which Mercury is in Pisces; Venus is in Taurus; Mars is in Capricorn.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 19/20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
The Sun is in Aries from March 19/20-April 19. In Aries, the Sun is enthusiastic and spontaneous. We are motivated by the desire to conquer. We are more impulsive, and have the urge to initiate. Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little shame with Aries. It is brave and pioneering, and somewhat innocent. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted and lack the desire to plan ahead.
Mercury is in Pisces from February 3-March 4 and then March 16-April 11. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
Mercury is in Aquarius from March 4-16. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.
Venus is in Taurus from March 4-April 3. In Taurus, Venus is very sensual (naturally), content, and possessive. We seek security and value that which lasts. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the here and the now as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own. On the financial side, Venus in Taurus looks for high-quality, solid, practical, and long-lasting items. Holding on to our possessions is more likely now.
Mars is in Capricorn from February 16-March 30. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. Our energy is reliable and faithful. We are slow to anger, but can be quite cold if we are frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity.
Jupiter entered Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Taurus from March 4-April 3. In Taurus, Venus is usually quite content, but can be possessive. We seek security and value things that last. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the “here and the now” as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own.
This week: On Saturday, the 21st, we may express our affection sparingly, but also responsibly and in practical ways. Relationships begun at this time may feel burdensome over time, but they may last longer than most. Some pulling back can occur in relationships now, as we are more self-conscious and cautious with our affections.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Taurus A love of music, an appreciation for sensual pleasures and others of the finer things in life – such are the signs of the cycle which has begun for you. This is aesthetic and artistic to be sure, but it is also practical and materialistic: you develop a keen appreciation for the value of things, including the money it takes to buy them.
Venus sextile North Node March 8-9. There is a stronger desire to connect to and belong with others at this time. We are more obliging and sociable.
Venus contra-parallel Saturn March 21-22. We may express our affection sparingly, but also responsibly and in practical ways. Relationships begun under this influence often feel burdensome over time, but they may last longer than most. Some pulling back can occur in relationships now, as we are more self-conscious and cautious with our affections.
Venus sextile Neptune March 22. Unusual attractions that add imagination, inspiration, and emotional “color” to our lives may occur now. We are attuned to the subtleties of human interaction, and we are more inclined to naturally cooperate with others. An imaginative, romantic time.
Venus semi-square Chiron March 23-24. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, March 16th, from 5:34 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 12:26 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, March 18th, from 8:48 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 9:16 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, March 20th, from 5:00 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Pisces tomorrow, Saturday, March 21st, at 8:34 AM EDT.
March 2020:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Monday, March 16th, at approximately 12:30 PM EDT, until Wednesday, March 18th, at approximately 8:45 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Capricorn. Even so, this period ends with a conjunction to Saturn, which is not always desirable.

Mars conjunct Jupiter. This is a time when we possess a wealth of enthusiastic energy. We more readily take chances. We can have an insatiable appetite now. Our sense of timing is excellent. We feel strong, positive, adventurous, and energetic. Our goal is to expand. We are competitive in a friendly manner, and we readily rise to a challenge. MARCH 15
The Moon spends the day in brave Sagittarius, stimulating our need to break the routine and experience life more spontaneously. The Sagittarius Moon demands action, emotional refreshment, or a change of scenery. We’re eager to learn, experience, and explore, at least on an emotional level. We are not inclined to analyze or question our feelings now. Still, if we’ve attached ourselves to unrealizable dreams, we may feel a little deflated this afternoon as the Moon squares Neptune.
MARCH 16
Mercury returns to the sign of Pisces today, where it will transit until April 11th. Mercury first entered Pisces early February, but due to its retrograde, retreated into Aquarius. Mercury in Pisces is intuitive and patient. Our thinking is holistic. Until the 29th, Mercury remains in its post-retrograde shadow, and we may be covering old ground, this time armed with more information. This morning, the Last Quarter Moon is exact with the Sun in Pisces forming a square to the Moon in Sagittarius. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we now need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t. This is not the best time to start a significant project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. However, it’s stable for taking a mature look at a situation, and it’s a good time for finishing up details and processing recent revelations. The Moon continues its transit of Sagittarius until 12:26 PM EDT, after which it moves through the sign of Capricorn. A Capricorn Moon is responsible and practical.
The void Moon occurs from 5:34 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 12:26 PM EDT.
MARCH 17
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Capricorn, and we continue to seek more order and structure in our lives. Our careers, reputation, and objectives are in focus with the Moon in this sensible sign. We’re more aware of our image or standing, as well as of our obligations. Still, it’s an excellent time to make connections that seem to gently push our boundaries, and we feel better for it.
MARCH 18
The Moon spends much of the day in the sign of Capricorn, aligning with Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn. It also forms a sextile to the Sun. We can be quite determined, enterprising, and ambitious today. Our sense of responsibility is stronger than usual. Our view of life is realistic and sensible, and we want to take action to build our sense of security. We look for ways to make us feel more secure and in control, and we’re pursuing your ambitions directly and courageously. The Moon enters Aquarius at 9:16 PM EDT, and we become less interested in accomplishments and more interested in connecting.
The void Moon occurs from 8:48 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 9:16 PM EDT.
MARCH 19
The Sun forms a sextile to Saturn today, shortly before both bodies change signs. This is a super influence for getting prepared and attending to our practical affairs. We’re giving our priorities extra attention and giving them our best efforts. We can feel on the verge of change, and we want to be ready. This transit helps ground us, or at the least, gives us a sense of rhythm and helps us pace ourselves. This influence has the most beautiful potential to teach us that humbling ourselves to accept constructive criticism and advice or to recognize areas that need strengthening can be beneficial. It supports disciplining ourselves to bring more purpose and practicality to our lives. This is a time for self-awareness that leads to realistic plans and goals. We prefer and benefit from conservative, safe moves now. The Sun enters pioneering Aries today, marking the time of the Spring equinox and the start of the astrological New Year, and will transit Aries until April 19th. We’re enthusiastic and spontaneous under this influence, and we can be motivated by the desire to conquer. We are impulsive, and we want to initiate, come first, and innovate. Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little pause for regret with Aries. It is brave and pioneering. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted or impatient. The Moon spends the day in Aquarius.
MARCH 20
Mars aligns with Jupiter in the sign of Capricorn today, bolstering our need to reach beyond our usual bounds. It’s a time when we possess a wealth of enthusiastic energy, and we’re ready to take chances. Our goal is to expand. We feel strong, positive, adventurous, and energetic. We are competitive, decisive, and we readily rise to a challenge and actively pursue our goals. There is some danger, however, of overdoing. We may be overly confident, boastful, or pushy with our opinions. Or we can take on too much, overestimating our capabilities. With Mars and Jupiter in Capricorn, business, increased order or security, and ambition can be the focus of our enterprising spirit. We feel compelled to take action. Our desires are big at this time, and the details will need to follow later. The Moon spends the day in Aquarius, and we’re drawn to new and unique ways of approaching the world around us. Our sense of community runs high.
The void Moon occurs from 5:00 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Pisces tomorrow, Saturday, March 21st, at 8:34 AM EDT.
MARCH 21
The Moon continues its transit of fair-minded Aquarius until 8:34 AM EDT, after which the Moon is in intuitive Pisces. A major planetary ingress happens today: Saturn enters Aquarius. With Saturn in Aquarius, this can be a time for improving, simplifying, pruning, and redefining Aquarius-ruled areas of life, including our social lives, friendships, group associations, happiness goals, involvements, contributions, and associates. While there can be tests involved, it can also be a time for putting our ideals or dreams into practical motion. We’re less patient with pipe dreams as we gravitate toward more realistic plans, goals, and ideas. During this cycle, we have a strong sense of both the past and future. Ideally, we’re able to put our egos aside to do what’s best for the collective. This transit comes in parts: it starts today and runs until July 1st when Saturn returns to Capricorn to finish up its transit. It will re-enter Aquarius on December 17th and will then continue in the sign until March 2023.
The void Moon continues until the Moon enters Pisces today at 8:34 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn’t cut it anymore: it’s the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.
Mars in Capricorn With this new cycle taking hold in your life now, taking charge and being in control become more important issues for you. You want to get things organized, and you have the initiative to do it. This is a time of ambition and responsibility, a time to keep your cool and pace yourself. Working hard is smart, but working smart is better.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
