The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Sunday, June 28, 2020, at 4:16 AM EDT.
On Sunday morning, a First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Cancer forms a square with the Moon in Libra. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 7 degrees and 6 minutes of Libra forming a square with the Sun at 7 degrees and 6 minutes of Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 5 to 9 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Cancer; Mercury is in Cancer; Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Aries.
The Sun is in Cancer from June 20-July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home”, safe, and secure. Nurturing and taking care of our loved ones and our pet projects comes into focus. Emotions run deep. We are more susceptible to the ups and downs of the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.
Mercury is in Cancer from May 28-August 4. [This is longer than usual due to Mercury’s retrograde from June 18-July 12.] When Mercury is in Cancer, we move from the desire for quantity to the need for quality in terms of the information we are attracted to. We think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more instinctive level now. We have less interest in what is universal, and more interest in what affects us personally and what affects the people around us. Our thoughts are colored by our emotions, so it is more challenging to be objective.
Venus is in Gemini from April 3-August 7. [This is longer than usual due to the retrograde phase of Venus from May 13-June 25 (ended).] With Venus in Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the attitude now. We are sociable, communicative, and interested. We can be animated and fun but may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions now may begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level with Venus in Gemini. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness.
Mars is in Aries from June 27, 2020, to January 6, 2021. [This is longer than usual due to the retrograde of Mars from September 9-November 13, 2020.] Mars feels at home in one of the signs that it rules, Aries, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident. Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.
Jupiter entered Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
Saturn returns to the sign of Capricorn in retrograde motion this week. In 2020, Saturn divides its time between the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here. Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July, 1, 2020, and then later, from December 17, 2020, to March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from April 3-August 7. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Fickleness with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates. Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: Venus is direct, but moving a little slowly, having recently been retrograde. Venus is in its post-retrograde shadow until July 29th. We begin to see some forward movement in projects or relationships that seem to have stalled. This doesn’t happen all at once; it’s more of a slow roll. On Saturday, the 4th, we may say things we don’t mean as our heads and hearts seem disconnected.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus sextile Chiron June 10-11. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
Venus semi-sextile Mercury July 4-5. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel.
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter July 7. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, June 29th, from 9:03 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 6:48 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, July 1st, from 9:21 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 9:22 PM EDT (only one minute long!).
VOC Moon on Friday, July 3rd, from 9:06 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Saturday, July 4th, at 12:48 AM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waxing this week which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Tuesday, June 30th, at approximately 11:30 AM EDT, to Wednesday, July 1st, at approximately 9:20 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Scorpio. Caveat: Mercury is retrograde and Saturn is on the verge of changing signs during this window.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mars sextile Saturn. Work takes on definite shape, and we can see results from our efforts. This gives us a sense of responsibility and a feeling of directedness and purposefulness. This is a good time to temper our energy and to exercise better judgment. A good time to get and feel organized. Seniority is favored now. Traditional methods work, and thoroughness brings rewards.
Jupiter conjunct Pluto. An increased need for shared interests with others, as well as for adventurous or risky undertakings, is with us now as we strive for more personal significance. Benefits may come now through those in authority or the government. It can be a time of personal growth and expansion. This can be an ambitious time when a desire for success is especially strong. The ability to sway or persuade can be enhanced. One of the most positive uses of this transit is a drive to better ourselves. We might solve a problem that has been in existence for some time, or capitalize upon a resource that was previously hidden. Social or material goals may come into strong focus, and reform could figure now. Our faith may be reborn or developed strongly now. We might decide to invest our time and energy (and possibly money) into an ambitious new project. We should take advantage of the increased drive this transit brings, but avoid tendencies towards self-righteousness, exaggeration, and obsession. This transit generally favors big business, the law, grants, taxes, education, and commerce. Increased influence, faith, and insight are likely now.
Sun square Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different. We might experience a lack of faith in our own decisions. We could too easily follow others’ leads due to self-doubt, or simply to please them and out of fear of asserting our own desires.
Mercury sextile Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue”. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding.
Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!
Sun sextile Uranus. We are willing to adapt to new circumstances, ideas, and unfamiliar situations. It’s a good time to join organizations and groups and to attend meetings or social events, as these can be enlightening. We can find creative solutions to problems now and effect positive changes. Flexibility is the key to success under this influence.
Mercury square Chiron. Communications may be strained, and possibly hurtful or perceived as such. Misunderstandings are more likely now. Decisions may also be hard to come by, as we tend to doubt ourselves or the effectiveness of our ability to solve problems. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now.

JUNE 28
The First Quarter Moon occurs today when the Sun in Cancer forms a square to the Moon in Libra. We may become aware of obstacles related to a recent plan or project. This can be a time of stress, clashing, and discord, but also of high energy, motivation, and growth. We’re competitive and ambitious, stirred into action. The Mars-Saturn sextile perfects this morning, favoring traditional methods and modest ambitions. Thoroughness brings rewards, and we appreciate slow but steady progress. This transit encourages a sense of responsibility and a feeling of directedness. It’s a good time to temper our energy, pace ourselves productively, and exercise better judgment. This is also a satisfying time to get organized. The Moon spends the day in the sign of relationship-focused Libra. While our goal is to get along, there can be some back and forth before we harmonize.
JUNE 29
The Moon continues its transit of Libra until 6:48 PM EDT, forming squares to Jupiter and Pluto. Jupiter and Pluto, both retrograde, are heading toward another alignment, exact early tomorrow. The Moon aggravates this transit today, pointing to some building tension. There is a lot of creative energy generated now, but perhaps a little too much, so that tempers can flare. Still, we can feel driven to make peace or build harmony. The Moon’s transit of Scorpio from 6:48 PM forward draws us to transformative and emotionally exciting experiences. We’re interested in discovering deeper truths and motives. Jupiter and Pluto first formed a conjunction in April and will meet again in November before moving on. This second of three alignments this year sparks a need for shared interests or for taking on a challenge as we strive for more significance. It can be an ambitious time when a desire for success, growth, and development is especially strong. One of the most positive uses of this transit is a drive to better ourselves and the world around us. We might solve a problem that has been in existence for some time or capitalize upon a previously hidden resource. Social or material goals may come into sharper focus, and reform could figure strongly now. We’re learning to make the most of our resources, and we’re dealing with change and transformation with more confidence and faith. Making the most of changing circumstances is powerful. This can also be a time of seeking more significance or meaning in our work and/or recognizing and practicing more of our principles and values in our work, career, and business. Themes of increased influence and insight are prominent. We should take advantage of the increased drive that this transit brings, but avoid tendencies towards self-righteousness, exaggeration, and obsession. There is an inclination to take things too far.
The void Moon occurs from 9:03 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 6:48 PM EDT.
JUNE 30
This is an astrologically busy day. The Jupiter-Pluto conjunction perfects early today, emphasizing our determination to improve, grow, and succeed. The inferior conjunction of the Sun and Mercury occurs today, marking the middle of the Mercury retrograde phase. We get a unique window into the past as it might impact our future. It’s an important time for new ideas, although they’re very new and raw at this “birthing” stage. There is an awakening happening at this time as we release old patterns and begin anew. It’s a good time for processing recent events and ideas, and for beginning to look at problems or issues from a new perspective and understanding, mainly related to home, family, and nurture. Significant new ideas are born at this time, and they’re likely to have staying power or significance down the road. What we say or write now has more impact than usual. Still, we may not have all the facts necessary to come to a solid conclusion, and we might later have to revise plans or decisions. The Sun and Mercury are sextile Uranus and square Chiron, perfecting either today or tomorrow, and we can be both craving change and feeling reticent about making changes. We’re seriously considering making improvements and progress. We may embrace new and unfamiliar circumstances, ideas, and situations, and seek creative solutions to problems. Flexibility and innovation can bring rewards now. Even so, a dip in confidence or faith in our resolutions or principles can lead to following others’ leads, when a better approach would be to recognize our feelings of vulnerability that may be stirred by situations in which we find ourselves now. We’re drawn to alternative approaches and new ideas, and we tend to solve problems in new, innovative ways. Still, we can be more sensitive to criticism than usual, which can hamper decision-making. The Moon spends the day in Scorpio, inclining us to scope out the hidden layers of our lives.
JULY 1
Mercury forms a square to Chiron today, and there can be some insecurity or strained, unnatural communications. We can be a little more sensitive to criticism than usual. Decisions may also be hard to come by, as we tend to doubt ourselves or the effectiveness of our ability to solve problems. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. However, our missteps can point us to our vulnerabilities. Saturn moves back into the sign of Capricorn today to finish up its transit of the sign (until December 17th). Saturn first began its transit of Capricorn in December 2017, continuing in the sign until March 21st of this year when it moved into the sign of Aquarius. Since that ingress, Saturn has turned retrograde and now returns to Capricorn in retrograde motion. Saturn will now journey through the sign of Capricorn for over five months before restarting its transit of Aquarius in December. We may return to unfinished business in the months ahead. The Moon continues in Scorpio today until 9:22 PM EDT when it enters truth-seeking Sagittarius.
The void Moon occurs from 9:21 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 9:22 PM EDT (very brief!).
JULY 2
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Sagittarius and is enthusiastic and idealistic. We’re more optimistic and forward-looking with this transit. While the Sagittarius Moon is spontaneous, we have brilliant energy with us today for strategy and insight. Pluto aligns with Pallas, and Jupiter will do so tomorrow. We’re willing to invest our energy into solving problems, and we can be determined to get to the truth of a matter. This is a good time for healing, regenerative activities, particularly to do with the mind and thinking. We should avoid attempting to push our ideas or plans onto others. As the day advances, we can be quite motivated to grow and improve our family, home, business, or long-term project.
JULY 3
The Moon spends the day in the adventurous sign of Sagittarius. Sagittarian ruler, Jupiter, aligns with Pallas today, and we’re especially optimistic, helpful, and ready to share words of wisdom. This is a strong influence for big-picture planning and thinking. We are high-minded, courageous, tolerant, and inclusive. We may feel compelled to state our truth, and we tend to go big with our ideas, ethics, beliefs, causes, and promotions. The Sagittarius Moon encourages us to explore, learn, and discover. We can thoroughly enjoy a sense of mission now.
The void Moon occurs from 9:06 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn tomorrow, Saturday, July 4th, at 12:48 AM EDT.
JULY 4
The Moon enters Capricorn shortly into the day, at 12:48 AM EDT. We can be more resolved, determined, and goal-oriented than usual. With a sensible Capricorn Moon, we seek order and structure, and our careers, reputation, and objectives are in focus. Situations that require us to keep a cool head work best under this influence since we’re not easily swept away by our feelings. We’re inclined to buckle down and work, organize, and plan. However, around the Moon-Mars square this morning, we can be temperamental. We might battle a simultaneous need to do our own thing. We’re also heading toward a Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse, which will occur early tomorrow. Emotions are building, and we can be on the verge of important epiphanies.
The void Moon continues until 12:48 AM EDT today when the Moon enters Capricorn.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Cancer Being more in touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do with feelings, but it’s more than that: it’s about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At some levels, this means a greater focus on family life – parents, children, relatives, the whole domestic scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you’re likely to find that houses and other real property take on greater significance for you. Nurturing is where it’s at in your life now: making things grow and taking care of them, planting seeds that will develop and survive far into the future – that’s what it’s all about.
Mercury in Cancer Gut-level is the way you think, speak, and perceive in the cycle you have just begun. You aren’t interested in the superficial; instead, you want to get right to the root of things. You don’t care about the universal, only about how things impact you and yours. Intellect and emotion mix to the point of inseparability.
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular. A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life – lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new – let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far … sometimes in harm’s way, if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
