First Quarter Moon
The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Wednesday, December 4th, 2019, at 1:58 AM EST.
Early Wednesday, a First Quarter Moon occurs, when the Sun in Sagittarius forms a square with the Moon in Pisces. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 11 degrees and 49 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 10 to 14 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Sagittarius; Mercury is in Scorpio; Venus is in Capricorn; Mars is in Scorpio.
The Sun is in Sagittarius from November 22-December 21. With the Sun in Sagittarius, our focus shifts from the need for an intimate connection with a person and with ourselves, to the desire to reach out to the world and connect with something larger than ourselves. While the Sun moves through this fiery, mutable sign, we can take steps to increase our understanding and awareness of the world around us. We are more able to muster up the courage to expand our horizons and branch out into new ways of thinking. We can gain more confidence and optimism by focusing on the “big picture” as we move away from our focus on the details of mundane existence. Although we may be prone to overdoing our expectations, we have the opportunity to nurture our faith, hope, and vision under this influence.
Mercury is in Scorpio from October 3-December 9. When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and to arrive at fair solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover. We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away the superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations. Scorpio is extremely sharp, profound, and analytical. Thinking is inclined to be one-track minded, focused, and even obsessive.
Venus is in Sagittarius from November 1-25. Moving from Scorpio to Sagittarius, romantic energy shifts from intense to buoyant. Sagittarius, of course, has its intense moments, considering it is a fire sign. However, its energy is considerably less focused; and, while Scorpio is most concerned with intimacy with a specific person, Sagittarius’ love is of a more universal kind. Romantic adventures, as well as a straightforward–even blunt–approach to love, are on the agenda. Gone are the intricacy and complexity of Venus in Scorpio. Truth and higher meaning are things that take priority with Sagittarius.
Venus is in Capricorn from November 25-December 20. Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions is increased. We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our “cool” in relationships.
Mars is in Scorpio from November 19, 2019-January 3, 2020. In Scorpio, Mars is driven and focused on getting what it wants. We are persevering, single-minded, and strong. The desire to experience our emotional depths, as well as the urge to penetrate the surface of life in order to explore deeper levels of existence, is powerful. We are fascinated with what others tend to repress, and are drawn to experiencing and understanding these things. We are less inclined to avoid important issues now. In some ways, we are attracted to crisis, as we see crisis as transformative and emotionally exciting. We would rather feel extreme emotions than nothing at all, as mediocrity or the “middle road” is felt to be unsatisfying.De
Jupiter entered Sagittarius on November 8th, 2018, and transits the sign until December 2nd, 2019. Read more about the Jupiter in Sagittarius transit.
Jupiter enters Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Capricorn from November 25 to December 20, 2019. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships are paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others’ expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence. There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.
This week: On Sunday and Monday, Venus aligns with the South Node, and we may be questioning whether some relationships (or elements of our relationships) are good for us. We may be a little indulgent with one another now. A Venus-Mars sextile is creative on Monday and Tuesday. We’re using a balanced combination of attraction and pursuit for achieving what you want. We’re throwing more of ourselves into what we are pursuing or doing now, and we’re more likely to connect passionately or romantically than usual. Later in the week, on Saturday, we’re enjoying the different colors and layers of love, seeing the best in others and our relationships.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Capricorn November 25-December 20. Marry for money and then learn to love ’em: that’s what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so – but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Venus square Chiron November 26. Not a commitment-friendly transit. We are somewhat fearful of investing ourselves emotionally in a relationship.
Venus opposition North Node December 1-2. This is a time for reviewing our attachments in terms of whether they are contributing to our growth.
Venus sextile Mars December 2-3. This points to success and ease in close personal interactions. We are passionate and sexy. It is a good time for financial ventures, social life, artistic pursuits, romance, and pleasure. We are now able to take the initiative and to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. We may make permanent ties or relationships that prove to be fruitful and fortunate.
Venus sextile Neptune December 7-8. Unusual attractions that add imagination, inspiration, and emotional “color” to our lives may occur now. We are attuned to the subtleties of human interaction, and we are more inclined to naturally cooperate with others. An imaginative, romantic time.
Venus conjunct Saturn December 10-11. Affections stabilize and mature. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. An air of formality is brought to personal and social relationships. A new sense of realism in existing partnerships comes now. A sense of duty may lead us to sacrifice a personal pleasure for a cause or for a loved one; thus we may have to abstain from personal gratification for the time being. Problems in personal relationships that have been swept under the carpet may surface now, and we are ready to face them. Dissatisfaction with loved ones becomes more glaring. Renewed ties to old friends or lovers are possible, or a new sense of responsibility in existing relationships.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, December 2nd, from 7:28 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Tuesday, December 3rd, at 2:11 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, December 5th, from 3:15 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Aries at 2:45 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, December 7th, from 10:02 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Taurus the next day, Sunday, December 8th, at 2:30 AM EST.

DECEMBER 1
The Moon transits Aquarius all day, stimulating our progressive, inventive, and innovative side. Friends, community, groups, causes, and happiness goals can be in stronger focus now. We’re independent, yet we know how to make good use of a team under this influence. We’re progressive in our approach, and we’re also quite determined. We have a good sense of what’s worked in the past and what may require an update. Mars and the North Node are heading towards a trine aspect, and we’re motivated to grow, improve, and pursue our desires. Today and tomorrow are strong for enjoying and appreciating comfortable relationships.
DECEMBER 2
Jupiter enters the sign of Capricorn today, where it will visit until December 19th, 2020. With Jupiter in Capricorn for over a year, we seek concrete results. Our attitude towards work and practical, realistic action is positive. Our judgment is prudent and mature, but we may sometimes lack the imagination or risk-taking attitude that helps spur innovation. We need to learn to be more flexible and tolerant of weaknesses during this transit. We should also watch for an overly self-serving approach. We are in the best shape when we take on a disciplined, committed, step-by-step approach to the realization of our goals. We value achievement in the long term, and we’re especially proud when we’re taking responsibility for ourselves. We succeed through resourcefulness and reducing waste. Some form of streamlining is vital at this time, particularly with Saturn’s transit of Capricorn taking place concurrently for much of the Jupiter in Capricorn transit. Venus aligns with the South Node today, and we might fall back on behaviors and indulgences that keep us distant from our true feelings and needs. Mercury heads towards a sextile to Pluto, exact early tomorrow, and we see new layers to a situation.
The void Moon occurs from 7:28 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Tuesday, December 3rd, at 2:11 AM EST.
DECEMBER 3
The Moon finishes up its transit of Aquarius early today, entering Pisces at 2:11 AM EST. The Pisces Moon is compassionate and spiritual. With Venus sextile Mars today, it’s time for taking a creative approach to our relationships and projects, and we’re particularly resourceful. This transit supports flow and ease in close personal interactions without sacrificing engagement. We can make connections that prove to be fruitful and fortunate, and business relationships and pursuits can prosper. We’re likely to want to express our affections through the actions we take, and we can feel compelled to create something beautiful. We are also more interactive and charming than usual. A Mars-Pluto quintile suggests we’re willing to challenge ourselves.
The void Moon continues until the Moon enters Pisces at 2:11 AM EST.
DECEMBER 4
The First Quarter Moon occurs early today at 1:59 AM EST. This can be a time of stress, clashing, and discord, but also of high energy, motivation, and growth. Even so, the Moon is in Pisces all day, and while this Moon phase can generate ambitious and competitive energy, the Pisces Moon prefers to go with the flow. As such, as the day advances, we’re idealistic, spiritually aware, and sensitive. This morning, its alignment with Neptune tends to magnify Piscean qualities. We’re tolerant and mellow, and we’re easily touched. This transit stimulates our imagination, for better or worse.
DECEMBER 5
The Moon continues its transit of Pisces until 2:45 PM EST. The Pisces Moon is compassionate and spiritual, generally encouraging an intuitive approach to the day. The Moon enters Aries, prompting the desire to initiate or start fresh, at 2:45 PM EST. However, it aligns with Chiron and forms a square to Jupiter, possibly prompting some missteps due to overblown expectations. Jupiter and Chiron are approaching a square, exact on the 8th, and we’re hooking into this energy now. It’s important to look within and come to a greater understanding of what we truly need or believe. Otherwise, the Moon in Aries is bold and ready to take action.
The Moon is void from 3:15 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Aries at 2:45 PM EST.
DECEMBER 6
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Aries, stimulating our pioneering instincts. It’s a fiery, sometimes impatient, and decisive position of the Moon. We seek a fresh start now, and we’re quick to let go of the past–we want to start fresh or come first. Energy is forward-looking. We want immediate results, and if the effect we make is not exciting enough right away, we might quickly drop a project or plan for another one. We may feel particularly energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic in the hours surrounding the Moon’s trine to the Sagittarius Sun when we can enjoy increased clarity derived from a feeling that what we want and what we need are in harmony. We are more able to cooperate with others under this influence. With Venus and Vesta heading toward a trine, there’s good energy for solidifying or strengthening a relationship or commitment.
DECEMBER 7
The Moon spends another day in the active, enterprising sign of Aries. The Moon’s square to Pluto this morning can introduce a conflict between wanting to push ahead and needing to use strategy. While the Aries Moon is direct and straightforward, we’re heading towards a Sun-Neptune square that stimulates the opposite approach. We may feel that the route to our desires is a roundabout one. There can be some disorganization and impracticality now, or a temporary drain of energy. We are challenged to consider our spiritual needs, which might at this point seem to conflict with our plans and goals, or we may need to confront the areas of our lives where reality isn’t measuring up to our ideals. Until we find ways to incorporate imagination and spirit into our lives appropriately, there can be problems feeling inspired or motivated. It can be a time of increased spiritual awareness, vision, and inspiration, although we might first struggle with this. There may be detours or distractions to deal with now. We are reminded to tend to any overlooked spiritual needs before pushing forward.
The Moon is void from 10:02 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Taurus the next day, Sunday, December 8th, at 2:30 AM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Sagittarius You’re now embarking on a trek into a land of dreams – not passive daydreams, but vibrant visions of what may be. The time has come to stop looking at the world as it is and asking why. Now’s the time to imagine the world as it could be, and the question has become: “Why not?” You also cannot do everything you imagine now, but you cannot do anything you don’t KNOW you can do – so believe, and dare to make it happen! This means expanding your mind, your belief system, your whole base of knowledge and experience. Time’s a-wasting – let no grass grow between your toes!
Mercury in Scorpio A pronounced curiosity about taboos and mysteries plays a greater part in your life now. Your mind is on cutting through the nonessentials and penetrating to the core is where your mind is at now; you want to know who (or what) pulls the strings. Sex, taxes, investments, and others of life’s most compelling phenomena may captivate your interest more than ever before.
Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love ’em: that’s what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so – but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Mars in Scorpio Tear it down and build it up again, reach in and pluck out the offending element: that’s what the new cycle you have entered is like. Power becomes a compelling idea, perhaps even an aphrodisiac – and you’ve got a stronger than usual supply of it now. Use it, don’t abuse it – or you might find that it’s a two-edged sword!
Jupiter in Sagittarius Faith, optimism, and a yearning to explore all kinds of new horizons: these are some of the focal points in your life at this time. Travel, education, and other ways to stretch your horizons open new doors of opportunity. Religious, philosophical, and cultural matters are likely to have special appeal for you now; transmitting ideas on a broader scale brings gain.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
