The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Thursday, November 11th, 2021, at 7:46 AM EST.
On Thursday morning, the First Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Scorpio forms a square with the Moon in Aquarius.
There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
A First Quarter Moon can be a time of some stress, clashing, and discord, but also of great energy, motivation, and growth. We’re more ambitious and competitive. Things are beginning to take off or turn a corner. This is a time when we want to get something going, but we may not yet know the next step or the exact direction we want to take.
While we should probably watch for overconfidence or overshooting, it’s a good idea to use the stress generated now to make important changes.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 19 degrees and 21 minutes of Aquarius square the Sun at 19 degrees and 21 minutes of Scorpio, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 17 to 21 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
The chart above is with additional points include Chiron, the four major asteroids, and more.

This week: The Sun is in Scorpio; Mercury is in Scorpio; Venus is in Capricorn; Mars is in Scorpio.
The Sun is in Scorpio from October 23-November 21. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire.” Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio–we want to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair.
Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.
We are more likely to prosper through strategy and knowing the value of keeping some things to ourselves at the right times. Efforts to repurpose, recycle, salvage, and transform can be successful. We’re especially successful at organizing, researching, investigating, and analyzing.
While we can be quite controlled with effort, there is some inclination to extremism. We can be drawn to challenges and crises, and we feel compelled to heal, fix, and direct or manage.
Mercury is in Scorpio from November 5-24. When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and arrive at reasonable solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover.
We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried, the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations.
Scorpio is exceptionally sharp, profound, and analytical yet also intuitive. Thinking is inclined to be one-track-minded, focused, and even obsessive.
Mercury-in-Scorpio isn’t shocked by much, or at least keeps its cool even if surprised. During this cycle, our approach is psychological when analyzing, deciding, and studying or observing. We’re not afraid to go places mentally. We get to the heart of a matter or to the bottom line very quickly, usually through instinct. Our resourcefulness and strategy stand out. We’re competitive.
We can be intrigued by motives and secrets or taboos. It’s not easy to take instruction or someone’s word for it–we have to experience it ourselves to draw conclusions. This position of Mercury is one of the most persuasive. It’s an excellent time to research, investigate, troubleshoot, and work on hunches. If left to observe on our own, we do our best thinking, seeking the hidden layers of a situation.
Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021-March 6, 2022. [This is longer than usual due to the Venus retrograde, occurring entirely in the sign of Capricorn, from December 19, 2021-January 29, 2022.] Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions increases.
We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our “cool” in relationships. We’re steadfast and seek genuine, perhaps old-fashioned connections. It’s not a time for PDA, and we can be somewhat guarded and reserved with expressing our feelings or revealing our relationships.
The underdog who works hard can have their time in the sun now. We value slow and steady effort and long-term prospects. Reliability in others is most attractive.
This cycle favors getting along well with higher-ups, conservative business goals and ventures, long-term investments, and matters related to pension.
Mars is in Scorpio from October 30-December 13. In Scorpio, Mars is driven and focused on getting what it wants. We are persevering, single-minded, and strong. The desire to experience our emotional depths, as well as the urge to penetrate the surface of life in order to explore deeper levels of existence, is powerful. We are fascinated with what others tend to repress, and are drawn to experiencing and understanding these things. We are less inclined to avoid important issues now. In some ways, we are attracted to crisis, as we see crisis as transformative and emotionally exciting. We would rather feel extreme emotions than nothing at all, as mediocrity or the “middle road” is felt to be unsatisfying.
Jupiter is in Aquarius from December 19th, 2020, to May 13, 2021, and then from July 28 to December 28, 2021. Read more about the Jupiter in Aquarius transit. Jupiter is in Pisces from May 13th to July 28th, when it retreats into Aquarius. Jupiter returns to Pisces on December 28th, 2021. There will be another part to this 3-part act in 2022! Read more about the Jupiter in Pisces transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021, to March 6, 2022. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships are paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others’ expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence.
There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.
This week: Venus doesn’t form any major aspects to the major bodies this week.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love ’em: that’s what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so – but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Venus sextile Mercury November 5-6. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners. Romantic overtures, expressions of love and affection, making new social contacts. This is a time when promises, pledges, and clarifications (usually very positive!) are made in love relationships.
Venus semi-square Jupiter November 14. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
Venus square Chiron November 14-15. Not a commitment-friendly transit. We are somewhat fearful of investing ourselves emotionally in a relationship.
Venus trine Uranus November 18-19. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, November 7th, from 8:44 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 8:04 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, November 9th, from 12:52 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 10:04 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, November 11th, from 2:53 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Friday, November 12th, at 2:54 AM EST.
November 2021:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider besides the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying).
The Moon is waxing this week, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from approximately 5:50 AM to 8:40 AM EST on Sunday, November 7th, while the Moon is in Sagittarius.
Another window occurs from approximately 8:10 PM EST on Sunday, November 7th, to approximately 12:50 PM on Tuesday, November 9th, while the Moon is in Capricorn.
Another window occurs from approximately 8:50 AM to 2:50 PM EST on Thursday, November 11th, while the Moon is in Aquarius.
Another window occurs from approximately 3:00 AM EST on Friday, November 12th, to Sunday, November 14th, at approximately 12:35 AM EST, while the Moon is in Pisces.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mars sesquiquadrate Neptune. Disorganization, lack of drive, lack of forethought, impracticality, and carelessness are strong possible energies to deal with now. Energy and time are too easily wasted. It’s hard to know what we want and where we’re headed under this influence, and passive-aggressive behavior is likely, as we may not feel effective enough to take direct action or assert ourselves directly. There may be a desire to act upon an impractical fantasy, or an unusual impulse.
Mercury sesquiquadrate Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It’s not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.
Mercury conjunct Mars. This is a good energy for debate or energetic mental work. We may be called upon to make a decision, but it may be a hasty, ill-considered one. We may be argumentative and irritable under this influence, and particularly impatient with vagueness. Be careful to avoid cutting words and aggressive driving. Our minds may be especially clear and active, and this can be a good time to eliminate wasteful activities. This influence excites and over-stimulates the whole nervous system.
Mercury square Saturn. Getting from point A to point B can be a challenge during this transit due to obstacles. Communications may be blocked or delayed, and negative thinking could dominate at this time. Projects we thought were complete may need revision, and others could appear overly critical, insensitive, or sarcastic. It’s difficult to trust our instincts, and we second-guess things automatically under this influence. Avoid signing on the dotted line at this time.
Mars square Saturn. Frustrations, smoldering anger, and a feeling of being blocked when we are attempting to go after what we want characterize this transit. Our desire to take action and to constructively express our aggressive urges feels thwarted or blocked. It can feel like more effort than usual is required to complete tasks.
Mercury quincunx Chiron. Decisions can be hard to come by under this influence, as we tend to doubt our perceptions or the effectiveness of our ability to solve problems. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now, which can lead to misunderstandings.
Sun trine Neptune. We’re at the right place at the right time, probably because our hunches are more likely to be correct and we are “tuned in”. We are inspired, and charitable acts now will serve to lift our spirits like no drug can. A good time for self-improvement programs or efforts. Instinctual judgment is enhanced under this influence. We are able to see matters, and people, from a different perspective–one that allows for, and even finds beauty in, differences.
Mars quincunx Chiron. We might doubt the effectiveness of our efforts to go after what we want under this influence, which can lead to passive-aggressive behavior, defensiveness, or frustration.
Mercury opposition Uranus. Mercury opposition Uranus. We are distracted. Our communications get lost, are interrupted, or are misunderstood. Disagreements with others are quite possible. It’s not a good time to present an argument or an important idea.

NOVEMBER 7
The Moon continues its transit of truth-seeking Sagittarius until 8:04 PM EST, after which it moves into structured Capricorn. With Mars in a minor square to Neptune today, we may believe the route to our desires is a roundabout one. There can be some disorganization or a desire to act upon an unrealistic fantasy or unusual impulse. It’s hard to know what we want and where we’re headed under this influence, and passive-aggressive behavior is possible, as we may not feel effective enough to take direct action or assert ourselves directly. It may be best to wait things out to see if a sudden feeling passes. Seeing holes or losing some confidence in our plans, desires, and pursuits can be more of a symptom of the need for a bit of inspiration or a well-deserved break than it is a sign that the plans are lacking. Of course, if there are flaws, adjustments may be necessary. Otherwise, we may need to rest or recuperate before pressing forward.
The void Moon occurs from 8:44 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 8:04 PM EST.
NOVEMBER 8
The Moon spends the day in Capricorn, and we pay more attention to our long-term goals and responsibilities. Although the Capricorn Moon encourages an appreciation of the tried-and-true or traditional, its trine to Uranus suggests we’re somewhat open to different methods. With a Chiron-Ceres aspect this morning, we’re learning from our experiences, particularly to do with love and attachments, and we enjoy helping people, teaching, and growing through our connections. Later today, a Mercury-Neptune minor square comes into influence, which can be somewhat disorienting. We tend to avoid confrontation with this transit, attempting to move around issues or otherwise taking an indirect approach. It’s not an ideal time for clear thinking and handling details.
NOVEMBER 9
With a sesquiquadrate between Mercury and Neptune this morning, we tend to perceive situations in an impractical or overly optimistic way. It can serve to diffuse our concentration or focus. However, Mercury and Mars are heading to alignment, exact tomorrow, and we can end up mentally wired later today. The Moon spends most of the day in Capricorn, aligning with Pluto there. The Capricorn Moon is resourceful, sensible, ambitious, and earthy. We crave results, preferring to see the reality of a situation. With the Moon heading into Aquarius at 10:04 PM EST, our interest in our social life, new ideas, and progress increases.
The void Moon occurs from 12:52 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 10:04 PM EST.
NOVEMBER 10
Mercury aligns with Mars in the sign of Scorpio this morning, and both bodies form squares to Saturn this afternoon. We can be very interested in producing ideas and fixing problems. The Mercury-Mars conjunction is a good influence for motivated, energetic work, particularly related to communications and the mind. Since it occurs in the sign of Scorpio, power dynamics and sharing may be involved. Mercury-Mars excites and over-stimulates our nerves. We want to get right to the point so that communications can be on the insensitive side. Keeping busy and making headway satisfies us more than usual, and it’s best to channel excess mental energy constructively. Tensions are possible, particularly as we can be over-excited about an idea or resistant to letting others’ input in. There is a strongly competitive theme now. As determined as we may be, there are obstacles to surmount. We could feel blocked from asserting and expressing ourselves or pursuing our desires. We might also be preoccupied with serious or weighty issues. There can be difficulties getting our message across or physically getting somewhere. It’s challenging to trust our instincts temporarily. It may be best to seek the motivation to make changes rather than focus too heavily on flaws and limitations. Editing and improving make sense now as we may encounter resistance if we push ahead. We might deal with disapproval or a dip in confidence, and we should draw on patience and aim to develop our endurance. We might recognize some of our limits and adjust our speed accordingly–it’s a better time for maintenance than it is for moving forward. While the Moon in Aquarius all day is generally a good influence for healthy detachment, it hooks into the heavy, tense energy of Mercury-Mars-Saturn today, and we can be more emotionally invested in our frustrations.
NOVEMBER 11
This morning, the First Quarter Moon is exact with the Sun in Scorpio square to the Moon in Aquarius. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. There can be some trial and error or tension to manage now, although it can also help motivate us to make a move. Recent endeavors may face their first obstacles. A Mercury-Chiron quincunx, also this morning, can introduce some misunderstandings, doubts, and hypersensitivity. The Moon spends the day in Aquarius, encouraging us to seek intellectual stimulation and unusual or unconventional experiences. Friends, community, groups, causes, and happiness goals can be in stronger focus now. With the Moon-Jupiter alignment this afternoon, we’re embracing our unique side or social life and reaching for our joy, seeking to grow, expand, and improve. Our imagination and idealism are active. The desire to connect and make others happy is strong.
The void Moon occurs from 2:53 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Friday, November 12th, at 2:54 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 12
The Moon finishes its transit of Aquarius at 2:54 AM EST, at which time it moves into Pisces. The Pisces Moon is compassionate, sensitive, giving, and wise at its best and noncommittal or avoidant when challenged. It’s a good time to forgive and release, particularly with a trine aspect between the Sun and Neptune today. This transit brings a fluid, graceful theme to the day. We readily access our intuition, and we can be moved to help, support, or give of ourselves. We see people and life itself from a different perspective–one that not only allows for but finds beauty in differences. We seek and find inspiration. We would do well to de-emphasize some of our material concerns or interests, at least temporarily. However, we can lose some patience as the day advances with a Mercury-Uranus opposition coming into influence, occurring tomorrow morning. As well, a quincunx between Mars and Chiron this afternoon can leave us doubting the effectiveness of our assertions or efforts to go after what we want, which can lead to passive-aggressive behavior, defensiveness, or frustration. We can find it challenging to be both assertive and sensitive now, and possibly see-saw between one and the other. It can be difficult to assert ourselves effectively without provoking, annoying, or concerning others. The trick is to combine both sensitivity and directness instead of narrowing our choices to either/or.
The void Moon period continues until the Moon enters Pisces today at 2:54 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 13
Mercury opposes Uranus this morning, producing mental tension, miscommunication, changes of mind or plans, and resistance to ideas. These, however, can lead to new insights if we’re open to them. We can be confrontational or controversial. As such, it may not be the best time to present an argument or an important idea, but friction stimulated can challenge us to learn more about our own minds and opinions. Epiphanies and unusual insights can occur now, or surprising news might arrive that turns our perception of a situation on its head. The day advances with a more easygoing, cooperative theme. The Moon spends the day in Pisces, aligning with Neptune and harmonizing with the Sun this afternoon and evening. The Pisces Moon encourages us to get in touch with our imaginative, compassionate side.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Scorpio Who owes what, who owns what, and who decides these things: these are some of the major issues for you at the dawn of the cycle that now begins in your life. The only thing we really own is our consciousness; the only master who is never overthrown is oneself. These are lessons best learned early in this cycle. Master them, and you master everything. Dodge these issues, and the great strength that could be yours will remain just out of reach. Understanding inner motivations, seeing through to the core: that’s your real path of power and enlightenment now.
Mercury in Scorpio A pronounced curiosity about taboos and mysteries plays a greater part in your life now. Your mind is on cutting through the nonessentials and penetrating to the core is where your mind is at now; you want to know who (or what) pulls the strings. Sex, taxes, investments, and others of life’s most compelling phenomena may captivate your interest more than ever before.
Mars in Scorpio Tear it down and build it up again, reach in and pluck out the offending element: that’s what the new cycle you have entered is like. Power becomes a compelling idea, perhaps even an aphrodisiac – and you’ve got a stronger than usual supply of it now. Use it, don’t abuse it – or you might find that it’s a two-edged sword!
Jupiter in Aquarius Innovation, reform, and idealism are your paths to growth and gain now. New, futuristic ideas are part of this, but it’s much more than that: putting them into practice is essential because this is much more than empty idealism. A break from the past, a willingness to flaunt convention.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
