The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Saturday, November 27th, 2021, at 7:28 AM EST.

A Last Quarter Moon occurs on Saturday morning, when the Sun in Sagittarius forms a square with the Moon in Virgo.

The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.

This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. We might consider recent revelations, what they mean to us, and our next steps. Going forward, it’s a better time to tie up loose ends, take inventory, and let go if necessary. We’re sorting out what does and doesn’t work for us.

This week: The Sun is in Scorpio until November 21st, after which it’s in Sagittarius; Mercury is in Scorpio until the 24th, after which Mercury is in Sagittarius; Venus is in Capricorn; Mars is in Scorpio.

The Sun is in Scorpio from October 23-November 21. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire.” Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio–we want to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair.

Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.

We are more likely to prosper through strategy and knowing the value of keeping some things to ourselves at the right times. Efforts to repurpose, recycle, salvage, and transform can be successful. We’re especially successful at organizing, researching, investigating, and analyzing.

While we can be quite controlled with effort, there is some inclination to extremism. We can be drawn to challenges and crises, and we feel compelled to heal, fix, and direct or manage.

The Sun is in Sagittarius from November 21-December 21. With the Sun in Sagittarius, our focus shifts from the need for an intimate connection with a person and with ourselves, to the desire to reach out to the world and connect with something larger than ourselves. While the Sun moves through this fiery, mutable sign, we can take steps to increase our understanding and awareness of the world around us. We are more able to muster up the courage to expand our horizons and branch out into new ways of thinking.

We can gain more confidence and optimism by focusing on the “big picture” as we move away from our focus on the details of mundane existence. Although we may be prone to overdoing our expectations, we have the opportunity to nurture our faith, hope, and vision under this influence.

Mercury is in Scorpio from November 5-24. When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and arrive at reasonable solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover.

We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried, the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations.

Scorpio is exceptionally sharp, profound, and analytical yet also intuitive. Thinking is inclined to be one-track-minded, focused, and even obsessive.

Mercury-in-Scorpio isn’t shocked by much, or at least keeps its cool even if surprised. During this cycle, our approach is psychological when analyzing, deciding, and studying or observing. We’re not afraid to go places mentally. We get to the heart of a matter or to the bottom line very quickly, usually through instinct. Our resourcefulness and strategy stand out. We’re competitive.

We can be intrigued by motives and secrets or taboos. It’s not easy to take instruction or someone’s word for it–we have to experience it ourselves to draw conclusions. This position of Mercury is one of the most persuasive. It’s an excellent time to research, investigate, troubleshoot, and work on hunches. If left to observe on our own, we do our best thinking, seeking the hidden layers of a situation.

Mercury is in Sagittarius from November 24-December 13. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. We seek ideals, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.

We’re more inclined to ask questions and seek answers during this forward-looking cycle. We might often wax philosophical, and we enjoy wrapping our minds around new concepts and ideas. Still, the details are not as interesting to us now, as we prefer to envision the big picture.

On the downside, we can be inconsistent and lack attention to details. While frank and open, we can also be tactless during this period. We’re generous with our communications and input, and we’re humorous and friendly at this time.

Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021-March 6, 2022. [This is longer than usual due to the Venus retrograde, occurring entirely in the sign of Capricorn, from December 19, 2021-January 29, 2022.] Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions increases.

We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our “cool” in relationships. We’re steadfast and seek genuine, perhaps old-fashioned connections. It’s not a time for PDA, and we can be somewhat guarded and reserved with expressing our feelings or revealing our relationships.

The underdog who works hard can have their time in the sun now. We value slow and steady effort and long-term prospects. Reliability in others is most attractive.

This cycle favors getting along well with higher-ups, conservative business goals and ventures, long-term investments, and matters related to pension.

Mars is in Scorpio from October 30-December 13. In Scorpio, Mars is driven and focused on getting what it wants. We are persevering, single-minded, and strong. The desire to experience our emotional depths, as well as the urge to penetrate the surface of life in order to explore deeper levels of existence, is powerful. We are fascinated with what others tend to repress, and are drawn to experiencing and understanding these things. We are less inclined to avoid important issues now. In some ways, we are attracted to crisis, as we see crisis as transformative and emotionally exciting. We would rather feel extreme emotions than nothing at all, as mediocrity or the “middle road” is felt to be unsatisfying.

Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.

There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021, to March 6, 2022. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships are paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others’ expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence.

There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.

This week: On Thursday, we may say the wrong things, and we’re particularly sensitive. However, we’re ready to grow through our missteps or through awkward moments. Because we’re in the pre-retrograde Venus shadow, we might later end up revising the decisions we make now.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love ’em: that’s what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so – but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.

Venus trine Uranus November 18-19. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.

Venus semi-square Mercury November 25. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.

Venus sextile Neptune November 30. Unusual attractions that add imagination, inspiration, and emotional “color” to our lives may occur now. We are attuned to the subtleties of human interaction, and we are more inclined to naturally cooperate with others. An imaginative, romantic time.

Venus conjunct Pluto December 10-11. An extraordinarily passionate time for relationships. We are focused and confident. There is a tendency to want–and to demand–a lot from a partnership or friendship. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships begun under this influence are intense and passionate, deep and far from superficial, and can be quite possessive as well.

It’s a good time to let go of something that has kept us bound or stuck in a difficult position. The Sun finishes up its transit of Scorpio today, entering Sagittarius for a stay that lasts until December 21st. Our focus shifts from the need for an intimate connection with a person, project, or ourselves, to the desire to reach out to the world and connect with something larger than ourselves. While the Sun moves through the fiery, mutable sign of Sagittarius, we might take steps to increase our understanding and awareness of the world around us. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Cancer, and we seek familiar faces and spaces. Safety, comfort, and warmth are most appealing now. This transit encourages us to center ourselves and let go of overthinking. We recognize that our feelings run deep, and we are unafraid to face them, making it an excellent time to get in touch with what motivates us and others. We crave a stronger sense of belonging. The Cancer Moon is protective, insular, emotional, and devoted. Nevertheless, with a Moon-Uranus sextile tonight, it’s a good time to invent, inspire, and perhaps get comfortable in new ways.

NOVEMBER 23

With the Sun’s alignment to the true South Node of the Moon today, we should watch for holding onto something that no longer supports our growth only because it’s comfortable or familiar. If we’re looking for clarity, we get a window into areas of our lives to which we cling too tightly, perhaps to our detriment. This may relate to fears of facing facts. As well, we might be afraid of losing inspiration or faith in our current beliefs. The Moon spends the day in Cancer, continuing to encourage us to attend to our home base. Its trine to Mars this morning helps motivate us to get in touch with our feelings, needs, and passions, even if it initially pulls us out of your comfort zone.

NOVEMBER 24

The Moon continues its transit of Cancer until 10:58 AM EST, after which the Moon is in Leo. We seek comfortable, safe, and familiar faces and places until the Moon changes sign, after which we open up to more feedback, attention, and interaction. Mercury moves into Sagittarius today, where it will stay until December 13th, inspiring an adventurous mindset. Mercury in Sagittarius is curious, questioning, and brave with thoughts and ideas. Our thinking is optimistic and idealistic, and our faith increases. However, we are not always very precise or detail-oriented during this cycle. With the Sun also in Sagittarius, our goals are lofty.

The void Moon occurs from 12:46 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Pluto), until the Moon enters Leo at 10:58 AM EST.

NOVEMBER 25

We may feel somewhat stuck on a mental plane today with Mercury aligning with the South Node of the Moon. The tendency is to overthink, overexplain, or overanalyze, which can be a form of procrastination or emotional avoidance. Mercury also forms a semi-square to Venus, and we may be in two minds about a matter–decisions can be hard to come by under these influences. It’s not easy to concentrate or connect with our hearts, and we can be pretty sensitive to what we feel people mean in their communications. There can be minor but irritating disconnects as we either rationalize our feelings or emotionalize our observations. We are likely to be feeling sociable and a little indulgent, perhaps lacking concentration when it comes to work or run-of-the-mill tasks. However, the Moon spends the day in dramatic, determined Leo, helping us find ways to enjoy ourselves.

NOVEMBER 26

The Moon continues its transit of Leo until 9:12 PM EST, opposing Jupiter around midday, and it can be tempting to push our boundaries with our affections or creations. This is “borrow from the future” energy, and we should be careful not to commit to something for which we don’t yet have the resources. However, we have grounding energy helping us out. The third and final perfection of a long-term transit, Saturn sextile Chiron, occurs today. This transit first occurred in February and returned in June. This transit has been roughly following along the same timeline as the Saturn-Uranus square, helping to soften some of the square’s rough edges. It’s a time for feeling competent, effective, and secure. This transit encourages us to express our unique qualities. We tend to go our own way without stirring up controversy by acting professionally and respectfully. There’s no need for show-boating with this aspect! It helps humble us, and with increased realism, we can pursue our goals with better chances of success. As the last in a set, it’s a good time to consolidate some of these lessons we’ve absorbed over the previous nine months. The Moon’s move into Virgo tonight stirs the desire to get organized and busy.

NOVEMBER 27

The Moon spends the day in Virgo, encouraging our desire to help, sort, analyze, and organize. The Last Quarter Moon is exact as the Sun in Sagittarius forms a square with the Virgo Moon this morning, signaling a time to review and sort rather than push something new. Until after the New Moon/Solar Eclipse next week, it’s a better time to tie up loose ends, take inventory, and let go if necessary. We might consider our recent revelations, what they mean to us, and what’s our possible next step. The Virgo Moon encourages our desire to acquire skills, excel at our work, pay special attention to health, and assist others. With Jupiter’s semi-sextile Pluto today, we may not fully engage with our intuition or instincts, and judgment may temporarily be off. Excessiveness can be an issue. We might do battle with our ideals and morals. Certainly, it may not be easy to find a balance between optimism and skepticism today.

When the Moon is in Gemini

Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.

The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.

When the Moon is in Cancer

 The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.

The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.

When the Moon is in Leo

The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.

The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

When the Moon is in Virgo

We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
