Full Moon
The FULL MOON/LUNAR ECLIPSE occurs on Sunday, July 5, 2020, at 12:44 AM EDT.
Very early Sunday, a Full Moon occurs in the sign of Capricorn. A Lunar eclipse is an especially potent lunation — in this case a potent Full Moon. Lunar eclipses are relationship-oriented. The “crisis” that these eclipses tend to elicit is a crisis of lack–a time when we suddenly realize a great need or want. The impact of the crisis can act to sever a relationship–it’s possible. But it can also bring two people together with a sudden awareness of a great need for each other.
Although Lunar eclipses are more relationship-oriented than Solar eclipses, they are not always about relationships between two people. They can trigger awareness of need in other areas of our lives, such as our relationship to work, to our health and bodies, and so forth. This is a time when matters come to light–things that have been brewing under the surface.
When a Full Moon occurs, we can suddenly burst forth with proclamations and outpours that seem fresh and new, simply because they are not yet rationalized. A Lunar eclipse is a more potent Full Moon, and its effects tend to last longer—approximately six months.
This eclipse occurs when the Moon is at approximately 13 to 14 degrees of Capricorn, opposing the Sun at 13 to 14 degrees Cancer.
Lunar Eclipses are about relationships and polarities. With the Cancer-Capricorn axis involved, this Lunar Eclipse presses us to look more closely at our needs, lacks, and wants in our lives concerning the balance between our private lives, domesticity, our need for a home base, and nurturance (represented by Cancer) versus our public lives, careers, reputation, and accountability (represented by Capricorn). Attachments and love are ruled by Cancer, while achievements and rewards/punishments are ruled by Capricorn.
In some ways, this polarity deals with the balance between unconditional love and conditional love. Cancer encourages us to value our home base and our roots, while Capricorn persuades us to consider our sense of duty and responsibility along public or professional lines. While Cancer may be content to be dependent, Capricorn urges us to be grown-up and responsible. Cancer represents the origin, and Capricorn represents the goal. Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire on us. Ideally, a balance should be found between the two energies, and this is what the Full Moon invites us to do.
This Full Moon is about balancing our commitment to our career and families. Something has been building inside of us, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out. Over the coming months, we will discover what this means for us. For now, we can’t sit on our feelings. We need to express them. The Full Moon illuminates this conflict. Some sort of crisis (which can be a crisis of consciousness) or sudden awareness of a lack in our lives provides us with a golden opportunity to explore our emotional needs within the context of the house polarity where the eclipse occurs in our natal charts.
Relationships may be challenged, broken, or strengthened dramatically at this time. Our discovery is emotionally charged and dramatic. Epiphanies are likely at this time as we become acutely aware of our lack. This understanding can propel us into positive action.
This eclipse is one in a series of eclipses that fall along the Cancer/Capricorn axis, and is the final one on this axis, the first having happened in July 2018. It can be viewed as the last cosmic push regarding the themes it has stimulated.
Full Moons and Lunar Eclipses bring issues in our lives to fulfillment. Our emotions are heightened, and there is often some sort of drama involved with the house, sign, and any contacted planets activated by the Full Moon. Look to 14 degrees of Capricorn (and Cancer) in your own chart. This Lunar Eclipse gives us a cosmic push to make needed changes in our lives. The areas of life activated by the eclipse may see dramatic turns, after which the path is clear to move forward. Note that whatever “happens” at this time is nothing truly new. The issues have been brewing inside of us, and emotions have been building. Something comes to light at the time of the Full Moon, and if we get in touch with our emotions, we can get a better idea of what needs to change, or what needs to go.
This Lunar Eclipse in Capricorn is bound to thrust us into a state of heightened awareness of flaws in the structures of our lives, particularly in our career or outer structures and our home and family structures. Decisions made now are emotionally-driven.
Full Moons are always good for magnifying pre-existing problems so that we can see where to bring back balance. Our larger work should be on reaching a good balance between focus on personal and private lives and our professional or public duties, responsibilities, and goals. Enlightenment now provides us with a golden opportunity to explore our emotional needs, which can ultimately lead to positive actions and decisions. There can be a heightened awareness of flaws in our current systems and structures. There can also be an urgent or sudden need/desire to express ourselves, and a strong compulsion to come to a resolution of a problem.
This lunation happens very close to the retrograde-retrograde Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, making revelations rather dramatic. Its harmony with Uranus helps us release and let go.
There can be an epiphany or heightened awareness of our feelings that sets us along a new path. Read more about current eclipses.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 13 degrees and 38 minutes of Capricorn forming an opposition with the Sun at 13 degrees and 38 minutes of Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 9 to 19 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Cancer; Mercury is in Cancer; Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Aries.
The Sun is in Cancer from June 20-July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home”, safe, and secure. Nurturing and taking care of our loved ones and our pet projects comes into focus. Emotions run deep. We are more susceptible to the ups and downs of the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.
Mercury is in Cancer from May 28-August 4. [This is longer than usual due to Mercury’s retrograde from June 18-July 12.] When Mercury is in Cancer, we move from the desire for quantity to the need for quality in terms of the information we are attracted to. We think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more instinctive level now. We have less interest in what is universal, and more interest in what affects us personally and what affects the people around us. Our thoughts are colored by our emotions, so it is more challenging to be objective.
Venus is in Gemini from April 3-August 7. [This is longer than usual due to the retrograde phase of Venus from May 13-June 25 (ended).] With Venus in Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the attitude now. We are sociable, communicative, and interested. We can be animated and fun but may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions now may begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level with Venus in Gemini. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness.
Mars is in Aries from June 27, 2020, to January 6, 2021. [This is longer than usual due to the retrograde of Mars from September 9-November 13, 2020.] Mars feels at home in one of the signs that it rules, Aries, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident. Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.
Jupiter entered Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
Saturn has returned to the sign of Capricorn in retrograde motion (last week). In 2020, Saturn divides its time between the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here. Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July, 1, 2020, and then later, from December 17, 2020, to March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from April 3-August 7. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Fickleness with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates. Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: Venus is direct, but moving a little slowly, having recently been retrograde. Venus is in its post-retrograde shadow until July 29th. We’re seeing some forward movement in projects or relationships that seem to have stalled in May and/or June. This doesn’t happen all at once; it’s more of a slow roll. On Saturday, the 4th, we may say things we don’t mean as our heads and hearts seem disconnected.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus semi-sextile Mercury July 4-5. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel.
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter July 7. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto July 8-9. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus sextile Chiron July 9-10. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn July 17-18. Feelings of isolation, of not getting what we really want, and of not being loved the way we want to be loved can get in the way of pleasant relations with our partners.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, July 6th, from 5:35 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 6:08 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, July 7th, from 12:37 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Wednesday, July 8th, at 2:12 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, July 10th, from 11:49 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Saturday, July 11th, at 1:05 AM EDT.
July 2020:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waxing this week which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions, only until the Full Moon on July 5th. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waning this week which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, also with exceptions, after the Full Moon on July 5th.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Sunday, July 5th, from approximately 1:50 AM EDT, until Monday, July 6th, at approximately 5:30 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Capricorn. However, the final outcome is represented by a conjunction to Saturn, which may be considered difficult depending on the pursuit in question. As well, it’s too close to an eclipse. Another window occurs from Thursday, July 9th, at approximately 8:15 AM EDT, until Friday, July 10th, at approximately 11:45 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Pisces. Caveats: Mercury is retrograde and we’re rather close to the eclipse on the 5th for both windows.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter. We might take great strides to get noticed. Avoid impulsive buying. Problems in our personal life likely won’t get resolved under this influence. Avoid hasty (or haughty!) decisions. We might overstate our feelings or promise more than we can deliver, and the tendency to overdo is strong.
Mercury square Mars. Impatience, hastiness, and disagreements characterize this transit. This is an unfavorable time for any kind of meeting, starting a new project, and business proposals. We can be irritable and say all the wrong things. We may be competing for the floor when it comes to expressing our ideas, thoughts, and opinions, making it difficult to engage in healthy dialogue. Mental agitation could dominate. We may stir up controversy with what we say, or how we say it.
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto. This influence can point to some underlying tensions in social interactions (looking for an ulterior motive and suspiciousness) and relationships (possible jealousies). Passions run hot, but there’s a hidden agenda. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness can be brewing just under the surface of things, and they are in direct proportion to our fear of losing something or someone dear to us. Avoid starting a new relationship at this time, because it can be characterized by these energies. Sometimes, this transit correlates with heartbreak, feelings of unreciprocated love, or romantic disappointment. Often, financial matters come to the fore. Manipulation can color relationships now. Avoid power plays with friends and lovers.
Venus sextile Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses. It’s a strong time for building trust in relationships.
Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

JULY 5
A Full Moon Lunar Eclipse occurs in the sign of Capricorn early today, and the Moon transits Capricorn all day. Our emotions are heightened. There can be some level of drama involved with the areas activated by the eclipse. This eclipse gives us a cosmic push to make needed changes in our lives. This can be the final push that decides matters as it’s the last eclipse in a set of eclipses occurring in Capricorn and its opposite sign, Cancer, in the past couple of years. There can be epiphanies or turning points that effectively clear the path to move forward. This eclipse urges us to look more closely at the needs, lacks, and wants in our lives regarding our private lives, domesticity, our need for a home base, and nurturance (represented by the Sun in Cancer) versus our public lives, careers, reputation, and accountability (represented by the Sun’s opposition to the Moon in Capricorn). We have a heightened awareness of flaws in our lives’ structures, particularly in our career or outer structures and our home and family structures. Decisions made now can be emotionally-driven. The Moon continues its transit of practical, responsible Capricorn all day.
JULY 6
The Moon continues its transit of Capricorn until 6:08 AM EDT when it moves into Aquarius. The Aquarius Moon is impartial, kind, and progressive. It harmonizes with both Mars and Venus today, facilitating social connections and harmonious or creative interactions. Mars and Jupiter form a creative quintile, and this can stimulate our motivation to produce, act, grow, and improve. We’re excited to make our own luck. We are very resourceful and can find much to look forward to under this influence. The desire to take affirmative action is strong with Mars and Jupiter in the cardinal signs of Aries and Capricorn.
The void Moon occurs from 5:35 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 6:08 AM EDT.
JULY 7
The Moon transits Aquarius all day, and we’re especially earnest, friendly, and principled. Our interest in our social life, new ideas, and progress increases. We thrive on intellectual stimulation, change, and unusual or unconventional experiences. Friends, community, groups, causes, and happiness goals can be in sharper focus now. A Mars-Pluto quintile suggests we’re willing to challenge ourselves, and we tend to gravitate toward plans and strategies to get what we desire. As the day advances, we head towards a square between Mars and retrograde Mercury, however. We could too easily find ourselves in disagreement with others, most likely because we’re communicating ineffectively or impatiently. We may be competing for the floor when expressing our ideas, thoughts, and opinions, making it difficult to engage in healthy dialogue. Mental agitation could dominate. We may stir up controversy with what we say, possibly by bringing up a controversial issue from the past, or how we say it. Ideally, we’re moved to resolve problems, but it’s best not to jump to conclusions or decisions now.
The void Moon occurs from 12:37 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Wednesday, July 8th, at 2:12 PM EDT.
JULY 8
The Mercury-Mars square perfects early today, and tensions can lead to speaking or acting prematurely. Mental agitation may stir up and release things we’ve bottled up, however. The Moon continues its transit of Aquarius until 2:12 PM EDT, after which the Moon is in Pisces. With an Aquarius Moon, we seek intellectual stimulation, and we’re drawn to unusual or unconventional experiences. The Pisces Moon is compassionate, sensitive, giving, and perceptive at its best and avoidant when challenged. We approach others with more compassion than usual. It’s a good time for activities that help us detox, forgive, and heal or unwind.
The Moon continues its void period until 2:12 PM EDT when the Moon enters Pisces.
JULY 9
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Pisces, and a positive, healthy escape from the usual can be most welcome. The Pisces Moon is intuitive, trusting, and compassionate. However, a Venus-Pluto sesquiquadrate aspect colors the first half of the day, producing some tension due to fear-based suspicions. There can be some underlying tensions in social interactions and relationships. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness derive from a fear of losing something precious to us. We might not be able to imagine a direct route to our desires right now, which can lead to a tendency to manipulate. Old financial tensions can surface, and issues of trust can re-emerge in relationships. Still, it can also be a time for recognizing the needs and desires that we’ve suppressed. Getting into a healthier relationship with these buried needs can help, and learning from our experiences gets easier as the day advances.
JULY 10
Today’s Pisces Moon finds wonderful channels of expression as it harmonizes with the Sun, Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn, and aligns with Neptune. Compassionate feelings and interactions figure strongly. We’re more tolerant, cooperative, perceptive, and adaptable. It’s a strong time for entertaining dreams and visions. Venus forms a sextile to Chiron, and while we’ve had some ups and downs with love and happiness in recent days, we’re open to learning from our experiences. We’re more inclined toward intimacy and sharing, and we see the beauty in our imperfections. There is a subtle healing power in our words and interactions. We’re better judges of value, and this benefits both relationship and financial decisions.
The void Moon occurs from 11:49 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries tomorrow, Saturday, July 11th, at 1:05 AM EDT.
JULY 11
The Moon leaves Pisces and enters Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, early today, at 1:05 AM EDT. The Aries Moon is assertive, bold, and me-first. We want to forge new paths with this transit. The Moon’s alignment with Mars, the planetary ruler of Aries, emphasizes this Moon position’s fiery nature. We can be excitable and competitive and should probably watch for jumping ahead without considering the consequences, particularly with Chiron stationing today and Mercury stationing tomorrow. Chiron turns retrograde for over five months–until December 15th. Chiron’s retrograde cycle is a good time for introspection. We might reassess mental and physical health programs in our lives during this period. Mercury is gearing up to turn direct tomorrow.
The void Moon continues until 1:05 AM today when the Moon enters Aries.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Cancer Being more in touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do with feelings, but it’s more than that: it’s about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At some levels, this means a greater focus on family life – parents, children, relatives, the whole domestic scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you’re likely to find that houses and other real property take on greater significance for you. Nurturing is where it’s at in your life now: making things grow and taking care of them, planting seeds that will develop and survive far into the future – that’s what it’s all about.
Mercury in Cancer Gut-level is the way you think, speak, and perceive in the cycle you have just begun. You aren’t interested in the superficial; instead, you want to get right to the root of things. You don’t care about the universal, only about how things impact you and yours. Intellect and emotion mix to the point of inseparability.
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular. A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life – lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new – let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far … sometimes in harm’s way, if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
