Daily Trends
The NEW MOON occurs on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at 10:26 PM EDT.
On Wednesday night, a new cycle begins. The Aries New Moon cycle ends and the Taurus New Moon cycle begins.
The New Moon in Taurus is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Bull. It’s time to enjoy life’s simple and physical pleasures–savor good food, and enjoy activities that bring us in touch with nature and with our bodies.
It’s time to stop and smell the roses and to become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure. This is a good cycle under which to re-evaluate our relationship to money and possessions, as well as to discover what truly makes us happy and fulfilled.
With this potent Taurus energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. It’s time to make some solid yet realistic plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs.
This New Moon harmonizes with the North Node and aligns with Uranus, suggesting that we can quickly connect with a sense of purpose for making changes and starting anew. However, it forms a square to Saturn, and it can be difficult but rewarding to strike a balance between convention and innovation, as well as between security and freedom. Duties, responsibilities, and obligations that we’ve been avoiding need our attention, although we might see them (initially) as blockers.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 3 degrees and 24 minutes of Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 29 to 30 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) and 0 to 8 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Aries until April 19th, when it enters Taurus; Mercury is in Aries; Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Aquarius.
The Sun is in Aries from March 19/20-April 19. In Aries, the Sun is enthusiastic and spontaneous. We are motivated by the desire to conquer. We are more impulsive, and have the urge to initiate. Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little shame with Aries. It is brave and pioneering, and somewhat innocent. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted and lack the desire to plan ahead.
The Sun is in Taurus from April 19-May 20. In Taurus, the Sun is methodical, sensual, and receptive. The Sun in Taurus is most active when it is defending or resisting things! As the Sun moves through Taurus when plants take root, our determination and security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar, and values longevity. The shadow side of Taurus is possessiveness and bullheadedness.
Mercury is in Aries from April 11-27. When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries.
Venus is in Gemini from April 3-August 7. In Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the attitude now. We are sociable, communicative, and interested. We can be animated and fun but may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions now may begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level with Venus in Gemini. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness.
Mars is in Aquarius from March 30-May 13. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit or miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players–cooperative and less concerned about personal power. We are attracted to unconventional methods, and tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective.
Jupiter entered Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
In 2020, Saturn divides its time between the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius. Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here. Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July, 1, 2020, and then later, from December 17, 2020, to March 7, 2023.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from April 3-August 7. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Fickleness with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates. Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: On Saturday, the 25th, we’re a bit reticent about sharing ourselves. Insecurities can keep us from giving ourselves to others temporarily.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter April 16-17. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
Venus sextile Mercury April 17-18. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners. Romantic overtures, expressions of love and affection, making new social contacts. This is a time when promises, pledges, and clarifications (usually very positive!) are made in love relationships.
Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn April 25. Feelings of isolation, of not getting what we really want, and of not being loved the way we want to be loved can get in the way of pleasant relations with our partners.
Venus semi-square Mercury April 28-29. Communications between lovers may feel superficial or unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. We may be especially sensitive to what’s being communicated now.
Venus square Neptune May 3 and then May 20. Relationship ups and downs characterize this transit–a time when romantic mirages are more than likely. We see what we hope to see, rather than what really is. The “highs” of a relationship begun under this energy may be thrilling, but the accompanying “lows” are bound to set in, and they can be extremely draining. Be careful not to set yourself up for disappointment.
Venus conjunct Mercury May 21-22. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, April 19th, from 7:32 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Monday, April 20th, at 3:01 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, April 22nd, from 8:32 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Taurus at 3:37 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, April 24th, from 8:44 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Gemini the next day, Saturday, April 25th, at 3:21 AM EDT.
April 2020:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, although with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). It’s waxing after the New Moon on the 22nd, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, also with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs on Sunday, April 19th, from approximately 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Pisces. Another window occurs on Friday, April 24th, from approximately 2:40 AM to 8:40 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Taurus (this period is better after 7:40 AM).

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun square Saturn. As we face obstacles to our goals, we begin to see the tools with which we have to overcome them. A heavy dose of realism seems forced upon us under this influence, but our efforts to measure up to expectations can ultimately increase our confidence in our ability to be responsible for ourselves. This influence is a somber one.
Sun semi-square Neptune. Our willpower is low as we stray from our goals and temporarily lose focus. It’s difficult to formulate — or stick to — clear goals during this transit. Concentrating on artistic or spiritual pursuits is better than focusing on matters that require straightforward, factual thinking today. It can be difficult knowing where or how to direct our willpower under this influence. It’s also a challenge knowing where we stand with others. Avoid such things as scheduling surgery, important appointments, job interviews, or launches of new projects at this time.
Mercury square Pluto. The tendency to read between the lines with a negative slant is strong during this transit, and can easily stir up trouble. Suspiciousness, making mountains out of molehills, telling others only what we want them to know are possible themes. Mental anxiety or troubles could manifest now. We should try to avoid forcing our ideas on others and strive to maintain an open mind. Compulsive thinking is possible. On the other hand, this influence can suggest the ability to engage in deep, penetrating communication.
Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn. There may be difficulties relating to others under this influence. People may be cool with their affections and emotionally distant. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be “money pits” as time passes. There may be anxiety or troubles with regards to matters concerned with the feelings. Romantic disappointments, unrequited love, separations, and broken engagements are the more negative manifestations. We tend to lack social confidence at this time and adopt a shy, formal, or reserved social manner. This transit is best used for reflection.

APRIL 19
Today, the Sun enters the Fixed Earth sign, Taurus, where it will transit until May 20th. We’re more practically, materially, and sensually oriented during this month-long cycle. The Taurus Sun takes its time–it is deliberate, methodical, and languishing. It’s also patient and receptive energy. During this cycle, our security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar and values longevity, although it can sometimes be possessive and stubborn. While the Taurus Sun is practical, the Moon spends the day in Pisces, stimulating our imagination. This is a time to heal, forgive, and approach our lives more intuitively.
The void Moon occurs from 7:32 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Monday, April 20th, at 3:01 AM EDT.
APRIL 20
The Moon enters the sign of Aries early today (at 3:01 AM EDT), inspiring us to start fresh. We’re action-oriented and enterprising under this influence, although we’re not exceptionally patient. The Sun forms a sextile with the True North Node of the Moon today, encouraging us to rise to a challenge and to grow and improve. However, the Sun will form a square with Saturn very early tomorrow, and this can have a restrictive effect on us today. We may face obstacles to our goals, but through them, we can more clearly see the tools with which we have to overcome them. We need to consider the reality or practical side of a situation and may need to assume more responsibility now. We may be facing reality on a matter, and our efforts to measure up to expectations can ultimately boost our confidence in our ability to be responsible for ourselves. Our commitment to others or to a team, group, or community can temporarily interfere with personal comfort levels. This is a time for thinking about what’s best in the long term, and it may mean forgoing or limiting something in the present for better results in the future.
The void Moon period continues until the Moon enters Aries at 3:01 AM EDT.
APRIL 21
The Sun-Saturn square perfects early today, pointing to a feeling of being blocked or limited. We may need to slow down and pay attention to flaws in a plan before moving forward. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Aries, and we crave instant results. We’re quick to react. However, what we begin now we may not finish, not only because Aries energy is more about initiative than follow-through, but also because the Moon is Balsamic today with a New Moon occurring tomorrow night. We’re symbolically in the dark as we clear the way for new beginnings. This is a time for review and reflection, and with the Moon in active Aries, we’re inclined to do some meditating in motion.
APRIL 22
The New Moon occurs tonight in the sign of Taurus at 10:27 PM EDT, making it an excellent time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Bull. It’s time to enjoy life’s simple and physical pleasures, as well as activities that bring us in touch with nature and with our bodies. It’s time to “stop and smell the roses” and to become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure. This is an excellent cycle in which to re-evaluate our relationship to money and possessions. We’re discovering what truly satisfies and fulfills us. We may be building and developing the initiatives and innovations begun in the Aries cycle. With this potent Taurus energy, we have the chance to make significant changes in our lives. Also today, with a Pluto-Chiron quintile, we’re exceptionally creative and smart about solving dilemmas, particularly those that may have been holding us back from personal growth. It’s a good time for devising strategies. The Moon continues its transit of Aries until 3:37 PM EDT when it enters Taurus.
The void Moon occurs from 8:32 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Taurus at 3:37 PM EDT.
APRIL 23
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Taurus, and we tend to crave comfort and predictability. While the Taurus Moon wants to get comfortable, with the Moon’s alignment with Uranus this morning, we’re open to new ways of doing so. We’re approaching our money, personal possessions, and other resources differently as our values are evolving. As the day advances, slowing down comes more naturally to us. This Moon position is persistent, stubborn, and stable. Earthy activities and sensual pleasures appeal more than usual.
APRIL 24
The Moon spends the day in earthy, sensual Taurus. A semi-square between the Sun and Neptune points to some indecision or listlessness. Our willpower may be on the low side as we stray from our goals and temporarily lose focus. This aspect serves as a small reminder to consider our need for downtime, fantasy, or spirituality. Mental anxiety or troubles could manifest as the day advances with a Mercury-Pluto square coming into influence, exact early tomorrow. This aspect may play to our insecurities and fears that we’re not getting all the information we need. Attempts to push our ideas onto others should be avoided. We can become obsessed with getting our message across and for others to agree with our opinions. Compulsive thinking is possible, but with mindfulness, we might be able to engage in in-depth, penetrating communication or think more deeply about a matter.
The void Moon occurs from 8:44 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Gemini the next day, Saturday, April 25th, at 3:21 AM EDT.
APRIL 25
Pluto stations and turns retrograde today and will be retrograde until October 4th. This shift of direction tends to bring about some initial confusion, heaviness, and magnification of problems. Pluto’s retrograde cycle itself, however, is an excellent period for research and gaining new insight into our self-destructive tendencies, needs for control, and search for the truth by looking within. Outward pressures may ease somewhat during this period. Over the coming months, we may be reassessing how we use our power. A Venus-Saturn minor square suggests some emotional reservations today. We can be a little more guarded with our feelings or worried about our money under this influence. We might see the less flattering side of people or relationships. Small obstacles or hurdles require patience. As the day advances, a Mercury-Jupiter square comes into influence–it perfects shortly into the day tomorrow. We can feel rushed to make a decision when it may be better to wait. Our ideas are big, but we may jump to conclusions or speak on a matter too soon. There is a tendency to overstate, say too much, exaggerate, or latch onto wild ideas. However, if we can use this energy to stretch our minds to entertain new ideas and to wait on putting these ideas into action, this can be a helpful influence. The Sun and Uranus are heading into alignment, exact tomorrow morning, and we’re changing the ways we view and use money and personal possessions. Our values are evolving, and the energies of today and tomorrow tend to spotlight this theme. We’re also inclined to break the rules or go against tradition and expectations.
The void Moon continues until 3:21 AM EDT when the Moon enters Gemini.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Aries A new sense of self, a more assertive personal style, a more dynamic approach to life: these are the hallmarks of the cycle that begins for you now. Doubts fade into the background, and reserve is more and more a thing of the past. It’s time for action; your destiny is in your hands, rather than set apart. Full speed ahead (“and damn the torpedoes”) is your motto now, for better or for worse!
Sun in Taurus The cycle now dawning in your life emphasizes stability, substance, practicality, and the concept of value – value in the material as well as psycho-spiritual sense. This marks a time of building to last, of appreciating the substantial rather than ephemeral. Consolidating past gains rather than focusing on radical new departures is likely to be a major theme for you during this cycle. Appreciating the finer things of life is another hallmark of this phase, which marks a time when you should be concentrating on “smelling the roses” rather than passing them by in such a hurry.
Mercury in Aries New ideas and an independent or pioneering mental orientation take on more importance in your life at this time. Teaching, learning, communicating, and social contact have a way of outlining new directions in your life now, and there is much activity and involvement with these kinds of issues.
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular. A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Mars in Aquarius The reformer, the inventor, the engineer, the revolutionary – these are important archetypes for you as a new cycle gets underway in your life. They are icons of the ambitions that stir you at a time like this. Independence, freedom from past patterns, and a daring readiness to innovate: such are the paths of achievement for you now.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
