Daily Trends
The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Thursday, September 5th, 2019, at 11:10 PM EDT.
On Thursday night, the First Quarter Moon occurs, when the Sun in Virgo forms a square to the Moon in Sagittarius. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 13 degrees and 15 minutes of Sagittarius square the Sun at 13 degrees and 15 minutes of Virgo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 11 to 15 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Virgo; Mercury is in Virgo; Venus is in Virgo; Mars is in Virgo.
The Sun is in Virgo from August 23-September 23. Our focus shifts to the pieces of the puzzle–the little details of our lives. It is now time to take care of practical concerns. Tending to the details of everyday life may not sound like loads of fun, but it can certainly free us from unnecessary stress that results from “collecting” odds and ends of unfinished business. This is an ideal time to get organized, to do detail work, and to improve communications on the job.
Mercury is in Virgo from August 29-September 14. When Mercury is in Virgo, we value precision in speech, thought, and process. This is a time when we analyze and discriminate between what we deem useful or impractical. Mercury feels right at home in Virgo, one of the signs that it rules. Dealing with details is natural and easy now. We need to be careful that we don’t lose perspective if we find ourselves lost in details. We should also be aware of the possibility of expressing ourselves in an overly factual manner, so much so that we come across as dry, critical, or unimaginative.
Venus is in Virgo from August 21-September 14. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, doing detail work, or just being there for our lovers. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. Besides our romantic natures, what we decide to buy and the types of entertainment we enjoy during this cycle are ruled by whether or not things make sense. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent at this time. Rendering services to others can fill a need and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.
Mars is in Virgo from August 18-October 4. In Virgo, Mars is somewhat of a workhorse. We have a passion for details, as well as a need to do the right thing at just the right time under this influence. The satisfaction of a job well done is one of your greatest incentives now. We are more precise and concerned about performance.
Jupiter entered Sagittarius on November 8th, 2018, and transits the sign until December 2nd, 2019. Read more about the Jupiter in Sagittarius transit.
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Virgo from August 21 to September 14, 2019. This is a time when we express our love through practical means and gestures–running errands, doing detail work, or just “being there” for our lovers. Essentially, we fuss over our partners, sometimes a little too much! Our availability and accessibility is a sign of love. Love needs to make sense and have a purpose with Venus in Virgo. Virgo is an Earth sign, which is sensual but also quite practical. We could easily feel guilty if we are too self-indulgent during this cycle. We can be a little shy and prone to worry. We pick up on many different cues, attempting to analyze every detail of our lovers’ reactions and responses. We could worry ourselves sick agonizing over details! In the process, we can miss out on the bigger and perhaps more meaningful cues. As well, Virgo is a sign that can live very much in the mind in the middle of an experience, failing to enjoy the moment. Self-consciousness can get in the way of enjoyment. Rendering services to others can fill a need and can be an expression of love. The shadow side of this position is being overly critical of our partners, picky, or worrisome.
This week: On Sunday, we’re ready to lock something down, make a commitment, or simply embrace responsibility. On Monday, we may be going overboard as we seek more meaning or new horizons. Watch for overcommitting or overstating. However, we’re also anxious to grow and improve, and we may draw in situations that help us do just that. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we’re especially open and vulnerable, and we might protect ourselves through believing fantasies rather than the real thing (or person). We may confront our illusions or spiritual and romantic needs through another person or a relationship that seems to hold a mirror up for us to see where or how far we’ve come. This transit can bring us face to face with our illusions in relationships. Emotions and feelings can be draining due to uncertainty and we may be left to feel that decision-making is too difficult. Neptune places a veil over our eyes and may seduce us into believing what we want to believe rather than what really is. If we haven’t been discriminating enough in love (or with money), problems can surface now for resolution. Romantic and idealistic imagination is aroused now, and we may be especially put off by anything vulgar or harsh. On Friday, our willingness to go “all in” can improve a key relationship. Strong attractions and powerful feelings are likely.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Virgo August 21-September 14. If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn’t you feel guilty about it: that’s what it’s like now. Loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.
Venus parallel the Sun August 26-27. A strong desire for harmony and comfort fill us now. We may be moved to express our affections.
Venus trine Saturn August 31-September 1. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism and maturity in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor, and have much potential to last.
Venus square Jupiter September 1-2. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships. As well, take what your partner says with a grain of salt. There is no malicious intent involved, but feelings of elation can cloud our judgment, and we can promise more than we can deliver.
Venus sextile North Node September 2-3. There is a stronger desire to connect to and belong with others at this time. We are more obliging and sociable.
Venus opposition Neptune September 3-4. Not a good time to start a new relationship, which could be characterized by disappointments, and the tendency to feel emotionally (and sometimes financially) drained by the partner. Uncertainties about existing love.
Venus trine Pluto September 6. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships are intense and deep, but not draining.
Venus sesquiquadrate Uranus September 6-7. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, September 2nd, from 4:34 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 7:35 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, September 4th, from 6:58 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 11:09 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, September 6th, from 12:04 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Saturday, September 7th, at 6:38 AM EDT.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury sesquiquadrate Pluto. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress and pressure. A troubled mind.
Mercury trine Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue”. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by.
Venus trine Saturn. Affections stabilize and mature. Affections stabilize and mature. Maturity with others allows us to take the bad with the good, and finds us seeing our relationships realistically. Small advances can be made in business and in partnerships through strengthening and bonding. Support from older people or authority figures may come by way of solid advice or more tangible help. Renewed ties to old friends are possible, or a new sense of responsibility can be felt in existing friendships. Business sense is good.
Sun conjunct Mars. This is a vital, dynamic time when we thrive on progress and activity. Our more passionate, aggressive, and courageous natures come to the fore. We are able to creatively solve problems and to instinctively take action when necessary under this influence. Self-assertion is what this transit is about. We are direct and frank, and perhaps short-tempered and impulsive.
Venus square Jupiter. Feelings of elation in love or with regards to the pleasures of life can lead us to overdo, overindulge, overspend, and overstate our feelings. Avoid hasty (or haughty!) decisions. We might take great strides to get noticed. Avoid impulsive buying. We may also feel lazy and we are inclined to procrastinate.
Mercury conjunct Mars. This is a good energy for debate or energetic mental work. We may be called upon to make a decision, but it may be a hasty, ill-considered one. We may be argumentative and irritable under this influence, and particularly impatient with vagueness. Be careful to avoid cutting words and aggressive driving. Our minds may be especially clear and active, and this can be a good time to eliminate wasteful activities. This influence excites and over-stimulates the whole nervous system.
Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!
Venus opposition Neptune. Problems with love or money matters crop up because of our lack of the ability to discriminate at this time. It’s easy to see what we want to see, rather than what actually is. We may be more vulnerable emotionally, and thus more susceptible to deceit or self-deceit. Romantic and idealistic imagination is aroused now, and we may be especially put off by anything vulgar or harsh. If possible, put off major decision making regarding social and romantic involvements, as well as finances.
Mercury trine Saturn. Clear, realistic thinking characterizes this influence. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now is likely to beget tangible results in the future. Conversations may be spare but to the point. Manifestation and achievement are what satisfy.
Mercury square Jupiter. Information overload is possible today. It is all too easy to miss or neglect important details. We may exaggerate, have a hard time putting our ideas to practical use, or overstate under this influence. This is an unfavorable transit for travel. Our ideas and plans may be too grandiose just now. We could have a hard time convincing others of our point of view, and we could too easily jump to conclusions. There could be a lot of talk about nothing. Lack of clear mental focus, but we may make measurable progress if we can concentrate.
Sun trine Saturn. We feel grounded and stable. It’s easy to stick to a specific task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it’s steady. We have common sense at our disposal. We are willing to look reality in the eye and to take responsibility for our lives.
Venus trine Pluto. An excellent time for finances and for relationships, all things equal. Our feelings are intense and impassioned, but not in an offensive or destructive way. The need to share on deeper levels is strong now. A spiritual regeneration through love is possible.
Mercury opposition Neptune. We are mentally lazy, finding that our minds wander when presented with technical facts. It’s hard to get solid answers from others, and we can too easily misrepresent ourselves. Avoid signing contracts or formalizing agreements. There can be misunderstandings, misinformation, wishful thinking, confusion, some depression, carelessness, and deception. Our thinking may be self-defeating.
Venus sesquiquadrate Uranus. Unusual attractions (to people and things) can have us acting on a whim. We may deal with freedom versus closeness issues in our relationships. Relationships or finances can be unpredictable. Changes now can create fresh opportunities, however, that can add to our sense of joy and freedom.

SEPTEMBER 1
Mercury perfects its trine to Uranus this morning, and we’re ready to think in fresh, original ways. Insights or creative ideas come suddenly, unexpectedly, and brilliantly. Venus forms a trine to Saturn today and is a stabilizing force, promoting a realistic and perhaps materialistic view of our relationships. Small advances in business and partnerships come through efforts to bond with others and strengthen our connections and projects. We might experience a new sense of responsibility in existing friendships. Business sense is excellent, particularly with the trine occurring in practical Earth signs. Reliability is attractive. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Libra, and we’re seeking fairness and cooperation. As the day advances, a Sun-Mars conjunction comes into strong influence. This can be an especially vital, dynamic time when we thrive on activity and progress. Our more passionate, aggressive, and courageous natures come to the fore. We are direct and frank, and perhaps short-tempered and impulsive.
SEPTEMBER 2
The Sun aligns with Mars this morning, and tomorrow, Mercury will join this configuration. It’s a mentally busy, excitable, and energetic time. We may be especially enthusiastic about learning, moving forward, or taking care of problems. We should watch for bringing a strong ego to a situation, however. Impatience should also be watched. A Venus-Jupiter square today is also enthusiastic but extravagant. It can have the effect of exaggerating or expanding our affections, and this state of mind can lead to overdoing, overstating our feelings, and overindulging. However, if we keep this in check, it can be a useful time for entertaining new ideas and approaches related to pleasure, money, and love. This influence generates friendly but not very disciplined energy. The Moon continues its transit of Libra until 7:35 PM EDT, after which the Moon spends time in the sign of Scorpio.
The void Moon occurs from 4:34 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 7:35 PM EDT.
SEPTEMBER 3
Mercury aligns with Mars and then the Sun today, and our words have more impact than usual. This is a time of motivated, energetic work, particularly related to communications and the mind, and, since it occurs in the sign of Virgo, work and health may be involved. We want to get right to the point so that communications can be on the insensitive side, but also direct and clear. Taking care of business is a major theme now. Keeping busy and making headway satisfies us more than usual, and it will be especially important to channel excess mental energy constructively. Otherwise, we feel nervous, impatient, and irritable. There can be aggressive or excited thinking or communications, and we are more invested in our ideas and convictions than usual. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Scorpio, adding intensity to our feelings. We’re heading toward a Venus-Neptune opposition, suggesting we’re also managing our expectations and perceptions in our relationships.
SEPTEMBER 4
Venus opposes Neptune today, and if we’ve been indiscriminate with money, pleasures, and relationships, problems can emerge now. Uncertainty in Venus-ruled areas of life (romance, social life, and finances) can be prominent. There can be a veil over our eyes, and we can be seduced into believing what we want to believe. This influence arouses romantic and idealistic imagination, and we may be especially put off by anything vulgar or harsh. We need to assess areas of our lives that have become dysfunctional and, in the process, we may need to give up on an unrealistic ideal so that we can make gains. We are more emotionally vulnerable and more susceptible to deceit or self-deceit. If possible, it may be best to delay significant decision-making regarding social, financial, and romantic involvements, as things are not clear along these lines. However, as the day advances, Mercury heads toward a trine to Saturn. This aspect supports detail work, realistic thinking, and step-by-step approaches to learning and communicating. The Moon is in passionate Scorpio until 11:09 PM, after which it transits Sagittarius, stimulating a need for meaning, truth, and adventure.
The Moon is void from 6:58 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 11:09 PM EDT.
SEPTEMBER 5
Mercury forms a trine to Saturn this morning, helping us get grounded and centered in our thinking. Conversations may be spare but to the point or instructive. This is a substantial time for making plans, helping others to understand our perspective, and for systematic thinking. A step-by-step approach to tasks and problems works best right now. As the day advances, we’re more scattered. We head towards a Mercury-Jupiter square, exact early tomorrow, and the Sagittarius Moon forms squares to Mars and the Sun. These influences can create some friction, potentially stimulating impatient speech and decision-making. We should aim to be quick, not hasty. We may exaggerate, have a hard time putting our ideas to practical use, or overstate/promise too much under this influence. We can very well waste our time on inconsequential matters, but this can also be a good time to stretch our minds to entertain bigger possibilities. There is a tendency to overstate, say too much, exaggerate, or latch onto wild ideas. We may be somewhat blind to immediate realities. The First Quarter Moon occurs tonight at 11:11 PM EDT. This can be a time of stress, clashing, and discord, but also of great energy, motivation, and growth. We may be feeling especially ambitious and competitive.
SEPTEMBER 6
With the Sun trine Saturn today, we’re in unusually good shape for productivity, groundedness, and common sense. We feel stable under this influence, making it a good time to lean or pare down the areas of life where we’ve been excessive or have too much going on. We are more able to tune out distractions and concentrate on what matters, although we can also be a little stern at this time. We face reality now and feel stronger for it, and we are most satisfied when meeting our responsibilities. This can be a time of humbling ourselves to good advice or tried and true methods, although, with Mercury about to oppose Neptune, we may shy away from a full commitment. Venus forms a trine to Pluto, and the need to share or enjoy life on deeper levels is strong now. We are more strategic and can see the value of patience. We might gain new insight into business and personal relationships. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Sagittarius.
The Moon is void from 12:04 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Capricorn tomorrow, Saturday, September 7th, at 6:38 AM EDT.
SEPTEMBER 7
A Mercury-Neptune opposition early today suggests we may be seeing others in an unrealistic light and discrepancies can emerge that challenge our thinking. Concentrating on technical facts can be difficult. If our minds are wandering, it may be that we have neglected to feed our imaginations recently. We should watch for misrepresenting ourselves, overlooking critical practical details, and thoughts that are self-defeating. However, this can be a good time for stretching our thinking to dream up possibilities we might miss on a regular day. This morning’s Venus-Uranus minor square can stimulate unusual attractions, whether to people, objects, or situations, that might prompt us to act on a whim. We may deal with freedom versus closeness issues in our relationships. Relationships or finances can be unpredictable. Even so, changes now can create fresh opportunities that can add to our feelings of joy and freedom. The Moon continues its transit of Sagittarius until 6:38 AM EDT, after which the Moon moves through Capricorn.
The Moon continues its void period until it enters Capricorn today at 6:38 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Virgo You’re coming into a new cycle centered on taking what you know and what you’ve got and then making the most of it in the real world. Assimilating information and experience, learning lessons and putting them into practice – that’s the focus as this cycle unfolds. It’s a time for prudence and stewardship, a time to tend to the details. You probably already have the grand ideals and visions: now you must get your hands dirty with the bricks and mortar and your mind busy with putting it all together.
Mercury in Virgo Mental discipline and patience are keynoted as you enter into a new cycle. Thinking things through, accounting for all the details, making careful measurements: these and similar experiences keep your mind active and involved. An interest in health and work may come to the fore.
Venus in Virgo If it makes sense you love it, and if it doesn’t you feel guilty about it: that’s what it’s like now. Loving attention to details and a sense of satisfaction in doing what is right (especially with respect to your health) are some of the qualities that come to the fore at a time like this.
Mars in Virgo As a new cycle dawns in your life, there arises a passion for details, a need to do just the right thing at just the right time, and a burning desire to have a place for everything and everything in its place. This can be hard on the digestion if taken to extremes! The satisfaction of a job well done is one of your greatest incentives now.
Jupiter in Sagittarius Faith, optimism, and a yearning to explore all kinds of new horizons: these are some of the focal points in your life at this time. Travel, education, and other ways to stretch your horizons open new doors of opportunity. Religious, philosophical, and cultural matters are likely to have special appeal for you now; transmitting ideas on a broader scale brings gain.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
