Daily Trends
The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 9:12 PM EDT. On Saturday night, the First Quarter Moon occurs, when the Sun in Taurus forms a square with the Moon in Leo. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 21 degrees and 3 minutes of Leo forming a square the Sun at 21 degrees and 3 minutes Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 19 to 23 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Taurus; Mercury is in Aries until May 6th, after which Mercury is in Taurus; Venus is in Aries; Mars is in Gemini.
The Sun is in Taurus from April 20-May 21. In Taurus, the Sun is methodical, sensual, and receptive. The Sun in Taurus is most active when it is defending or resisting things! As the Sun moves through Taurus when plants take root, our determination and security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar and values longevity. The shadow side of Taurus is possessiveness and bullheadedness.
Mercury is in Aries from April 17-May 6. When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries.
Mercury is in Taurus from May 6-21. When Mercury is in Taurus, our thinking is down to earth, solid, and grounded. Common sense reigns over more fanciful thinking. We communicate more deliberately under this influence, and our minds are oriented to the world of the five senses. We prefer the tried and true rather than new ways of thinking. Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives, but we may be in danger of narrow, overly conservative, or rigid thinking.
Venus is in Aries from April 20-May 15. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now. Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
Mars is in Gemini from March 31-May 15. In Gemini, Mars is considerably more versatile and flexible–and considerably less determined and focused! Our interests become more diversified, possibly to the point of going off on so many tangents that we are scattered and ineffective.
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Jupiter entered Sagittarius on November 8th, 2018, and transits the sign until December 2nd, 2019. Read more about the Jupiter in Sagittarius transit.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Aries from April 20 to May 16, 2019.
This week: Venus aspects are complicated this week. Its square to Saturn on Monday and Tuesday can be a checkpoint moment for our relationships. Temporarily, we may be fearing the worst and seeing the flaws. There can be some emotional distance or blockage, and ideally, it’s a time for reaching a new level of maturity and realism in your relationships. Venus forms a trine to Jupiter on Wednesday and Thursday, and while this is one of the most generous and flowing influences around, at the same time, Venus forms a square to Pluto, suggesting some drama is involved. We should watch for drama or exaggeration that is destructive. We may be swinging from seeing the best and the worst. Fears of having the rug pulled from under our feet in our relationships can be stimulated now.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Aries April 20-May 16. Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Venus parallel Chiron May 2-3. Healing energy is brought to love relationships, and a new cycle begins. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings, and more willing to act upon them. This is a good time to make a resolution to repair, heal, and improve relationships.
Venus square Saturn May 6-7. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus trine Jupiter May 8-9. Harmony and good will reign under this influence. Expansive feelings in love, and a feeling that anything is possible if we set our sights high enough, are experienced now. We are friendly, big-hearted, sociable, and optimistic. It is easy to make social contacts under this influence. Cheerfulness, trust, and confidence in love and social matters.
Venus square Pluto May 8-9. Intense passions, but there’s a hidden agenda. Jealousy and possessiveness are high, in direct proportion to fear of losing a partnership. Avoid starting a new relationship at this time, because it can be characterized by these energies.
Venus sextile Mars May 13-14. This points to success and ease in close personal interactions. We are passionate and sexy. It is a good time for financial ventures, social life, artistic pursuits, romance, and pleasure. We are now able to take the initiative and to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. We may make permanent ties or relationships that prove to be fruitful and fortunate.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, May 5th, from 11:10 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Pluto), until the Moon enters Gemini at 11:40 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, May 7th, from 7:50 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mars), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Wednesday, May 8th, at 5:07 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, May 9th, from 10:07 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Leo the next day, Friday, May 10th, at 9:14 AM EDT.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mars quincunx Pluto. A strong desire to prove ourselves may be at the root of confrontations and bull-headedness at this time. Avoid forcing issues.
Mars opposition Jupiter. Over-estimating what we are capable of doing characterizes this transit. What we want to do may conflict with what is actually possible. We may get fired up over opposing viewpoints, and we may need to adjust our plan of action. Errors in judgment made now are likely due to impulsiveness and the overlooking of crucial details.
Venus square Saturn. Gaining what we want is challenging under this influence, due to negative attitudes and the tendency to need more than what is possible. Difficulties socializing with others stem from an increased sensitivity to rejection as well as stiffness with the affections. Emotional distance in relationships. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be “money pits” as time passes.
Mercury semi-square Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It’s not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.
Mercury conjunct Uranus. The ability to grasp intellectual concepts is high right now. Our intuition is spot-on, and we tend to have the right idea at the right moment. The senses may be overloaded, to the point that we are scatter-brained, impulsive, nervous, or impatient. If channeled well, however, our ideas are inventive, original, progressive, and unbiased.
Sun sextile Neptune. We’re at the right place at the right time, probably because our hunches are more likely to be correct and we are “tuned in”. We are inspired, and charitable acts now will serve to lift our spirits like no drug can. A good time for self-improvement programs or efforts. Instinctual judgment is enhanced under this influence. We are able to see matters, and people, from a different perspective–one that allows for, and even finds beauty in, differences.
Venus trine Jupiter. Friendliness and optimism characterize this transit. We are big-hearted and our feelings are expansive. The outlook is cheerful and hopeful and the atmosphere is cooperative. This is a sociable, perhaps lazy and self-indulgent, time. We easily find meaning in our social connections. We are more open and trusting of friends and lovers. Integrity and loyalty are favored. A favorable influence for winning people’s trust. Speculation, advertising, publishing, and travel are favored.
Venus square Pluto. Intense passions, but there’s a hidden agenda. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness run high, in direct proportion to fear of losing partnership. Avoid starting a new relationship at this time, because it can be characterized by these energies. Social interactions may be intense or could provoke intense feelings. Changes in financial status or relationships may occur now. Emotions and issues in a close relationship that have been brewing beneath the surface for quite awhile come to the surface at this time, possibly in a very disruptive way. All of our relationships intensify and we need to be aware of a tendency to act in a rather compulsive, demanding way towards others. This is an “all or nothing” energy. Manipulative behavior, fear of betrayal, and power struggles are possible.
Sun semi-square Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different.
Mercury sesquiquadrate Jupiter. We experience information overload, and we neglect to consider details. People tend to exaggerate today.
Sun trine Saturn. We feel grounded and stable. It’s easy to stick to a specific task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it’s steady. We have common sense at our disposal. We are willing to look reality in the eye and to take responsibility for our lives.

MAY 5
With Mars and Pluto quincunx this morning, feelings of anger, competitiveness or anger can be difficult to manage or understand, especially since they may be displaced or unresolved as they’ve built from other times. Avoid forcing issues. Mars opposes Jupiter today, and we have a strong desire to expand, to grow, and to do and know more. If we feel limited or restricted, or if we don’t know where to begin, this can serve to frustrate. There can be impatience. What we want to do may conflict with what is possible. We may get fired up over opposing viewpoints, particularly as Mars and Jupiter fall along the mental Gemini-Sagittarius axis, and we may need to adjust our plan of action. Competitive feelings, however, can motivate us to push ourselves a little harder. The trick will be to do so in moderation. Errors in judgment made now are likely due to impulsiveness and the overlooking of crucial details. Mars-Jupiter can bring a turning point to a project or even an attitude. We can feel very passionately about our beliefs, but we should watch that this doesn’t border on self-righteousness. Instead, we might work hard at improving our ideas and uncovering information. There is a lot of creative and mental energy generated now, but perhaps a little too much, so that tempers can flare. Ideally, we harness the energy to make changes and improvements. The Moon spends most of the day in the sign of Taurus, entering Gemini at 11:39 PM EDT.
The Moon is void from 11:10 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Pluto), until the Moon enters Gemini at 11:40 PM EDT.
MAY 6
The Moon spends the day in connected, curious Gemini. We’re reasonable, logical, and communicative, and we seek contacts and activities that stimulate us and satisfy our need for diversity, variety, and knowledge. Mercury enters Taurus today, however, where it will stay until May 21st. When Mercury is in Taurus, our thinking is down to earth, stable, and grounded. Common sense reigns over fanciful thinking. We communicate quite deliberately under this influence. We gravitate towards tried and true methods rather than seek out new ones. Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives during this cycle, but we should watch for overly conservative or rigid thinking. As the day advances, a Venus-Saturn square comes into orb, and there can be some withholding or socially awkward energy later today as we may be overthinking.
MAY 7
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Gemini, stirring our curiosity and desire to stay in the loop. With a Venus-Saturn square occurring this morning, however, we may feel a little discouraged on a social level if we don’t receive the feedback we crave, or this can be a checkpoint moment with a relationship or money matter. Gaining what we want is challenging under this influence, possibly due to negative expectations or a tendency to crave more than what is currently, and realistically, possible. Difficulties socializing can occur if we are a little more sensitive to rejection than usual. There may be a lesson or reality check related to matters of the heart, pleasures, or finances. Temporarily, we’re unlikely to feel free or generous with money or our hearts now.
The Moon is void from 7:50 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mars), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Wednesday, May 8th, at 5:07 AM EDT.
MAY 8
The Moon continues its transit of Gemini until 5:07 AM EDT, after which the Moon transits its own sign, Cancer. Warmth, comfort, familiarity, and safety are drives with the Moon in Cancer. Mercury forms a semi-square to Neptune and a conjunction to Uranus this morning, and we can feel inspired to think and connect or communicate in new, fresh ways. This can be a time of mental breakthroughs, creative envisioning, innovative thinking, and perhaps nervous energy. We’re not content merely recycling old ideas or performing repetitive processes, and we are quick to latch onto progressive approaches and methods. We may seek to stir things up or shock others with our ideas and communications. Our senses may overload to the point that we are scatter-brained, impulsive, nervous, or impatient. If channeled well, however, we can come up with inventive, original, progressive, and unbiased ideas and methods. We’re looking for inspiration. Later today, the Sun forms a sextile to Neptune–another indication that we’re seeking inspiration. We have better access to our imagination and intuition, although we may be distracted by shiny things — all that’s brand new, different, or unusual. What feels like serendipity experienced now may have to do with a good sense of timing and a feeling of being in sync with the universe. We are generous and charitable with our time and energy. We can see people and situations from a perspective that embraces and finds beauty in our differences. Philanthropic acts can be rewarding. This is also a good time for self-improvement programs or efforts.
The Moon ends its void period at 5:07 AM EDT when the Moon enters Cancer.
MAY 9
Venus harmonizes with Jupiter today, stimulating a strong taste for freedom, pleasure, warmth, generosity, and excitement in our relationships. We need to feel that we’re growing in and through our relationships, and we may very well stimulate some drama. Venus also forms a square to Pluto, bringing intensity into the equation. Problems or fears that we’ve held to ourselves can now surface in disruptive ways. Dissatisfaction with levels of freedom or intimacy in relationships can peak. There may be changes in financial affairs or status. If we’ve been mishandling power or using manipulative tactics, consequences may emerge now. With Jupiter strong, we want to give the benefit of the doubt, but with Pluto, we can be afraid of betrayal and doubt others as a result. We should watch for swinging between extreme faith and suspicion when the truth is somewhere in between. Excessiveness can be another pitfall of this combination. The main challenge involves releasing our control or hold over others and in our relationships. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Cancer, and we’re sensitive, vulnerable, and empathetic. We’re interested in laying down roots, nourishing and protecting what’s ours, and finding sustenance in familiarity and safety.
The Moon is void from 10:07 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Leo the next day, Friday, May 10th, at 9:14 AM EDT.
MAY 10
Mercury forms a minor challenging aspect with Jupiter today, pointing to potentially impulsive decisions. Watch for distorted perceptions and communications or news now. While this aspect can stimulate some restlessness and a tendency to overlook details, as the day advances, a Sun-Saturn trine comes into influence, and this helps us with self-discipline and moderation. We can enjoy a real sense of strength and pride in our ability to meet our responsibilities. We feel grounded and stable. We are more aware of our limitations–and willing to accept them. Enjoyment of our duties, work, or obligations can be in focus. The Moon continues its transit of Cancer until 9:14 AM EDT when it enters Leo.
The Moon ends its void period at 9:14 AM EDT when the Moon enters Leo.
MAY 11
This morning, the Sun forms a trine to Saturn in Earth signs, and we can feel particularly empowered dealing with practicalities and seeing things realistically. The Moon spends the day in the sign of proud, creative Leo. Tonight, the First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Taurus forms a square with the Moon in Leo. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. We become aware of differences, and this can be a time of stress, clashing, and discord, but also of high energy, motivation, and growth. We may be feeling especially ambitious and competitive. Things are beginning to take off or to turn a corner. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles. This is a time when we want to get something going, but we may not know the next step or the exact direction we want it or us to take.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
When the Moon is in Leo
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Taurus The cycle now dawning in your life emphasizes stability, substance, practicality, and the concept of value – value in the material as well as psycho-spiritual sense. This marks a time of building to last, of appreciating the substantial rather than ephemeral. Consolidating past gains rather than focusing on radical new departures is likely to be a major theme for you during this cycle. Appreciating the finer things of life is another hallmark of this phase, which marks a time when you should be concentrating on “smelling the roses” rather than passing them by in such a hurry.
Mercury in Aries New ideas and an independent or pioneering mental orientation take on more importance in your life at this time. Teaching, learning, communicating, and social contact have a way of outlining new directions in your life now, and there is much activity and involvement with these kinds of issues.
Mercury in Taurus “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” – that’s the key to the way you think at a time like this. Practical, utilitarian ideas are the ones that make the most sense now – putting them to good use is a focus for you. Material things are foremost on your mind in many respects: an emphasis on the real rather than the ideal.
Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Mars in Gemini Learning, communicating, the exchange of ideas: these are the experiences you crave as a means to make your mark now, as a new phase begins in your life. You’re a person with something to say, and you realize that others have information that is essential to your goals. A time of much mental energy and initiative … perhaps with an element of conflict tossed in for good measure.
Jupiter in Sagittarius Faith, optimism, and a yearning to explore all kinds of new horizons: these are some of the focal points in your life at this time. Travel, education, and other ways to stretch your horizons open new doors of opportunity. Religious, philosophical, and cultural matters are likely to have special appeal for you now; transmitting ideas on a broader scale brings gain.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
