Last Quarter Moon
The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Thursday, July 1st, 2021, at 5:10 PM EDT.
Thursday afternoon, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Cancer forms a square with the Moon in Aries. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?
This phase of the Moon occurs at 10 degrees and 14 minutes of Aries forming a square with the Sun at 10 degrees and 14 minutes of Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 8 to 12 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Cancer; Mercury is in Gemini; Venus is in Cancer until the 27th, after which Venus is in Leo; Mars is in Leo.
The Sun is in Cancer from June 21 to July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home”, safe, and secure. Nurturing and taking care of our loved ones and our pet projects comes into focus. Emotions run deep. We are more susceptible to the ups and downs of the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.
Mercury is in Gemini from May 3 to July 11. When Mercury is in Gemini, we are especially communicative, curious, and sociable. Mercury feels right at home in Gemini, one of the signs that it rules. We tend to take more pleasure in gaining a superficial knowledge of many subjects rather than dig deep into any one topic. We are especially astute when it comes to arguing or making a point. We are attracted to wordplays, puns, and negotiations. We are easily distracted.
Venus is in Cancer from June 2 to 27. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and are at our best when we feel safe and secure.
Venus is in Leo from June 27 to July 21. Love is magnificent and grand. We take pride in love, and we are generous with our money as well. This is a warmhearted, teasing, expressive, proud, and extravagant placement for Venus. Love is a bit of a game–a game that is perpetual, as Venus in Leo is forever stuck in the romance stage of a relationship. We feed on attention, acknowledgement, validation, and adoration. Venus in Leo loves to be adored, pampered, and admired. Pride and passion are hallmarks of this cycle. We have a strong ego investment in our love lives during this period. The negative expression of this placement is overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.
Mars is in Leo from June 11 to July 29. In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We are spirited and have grand goals. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals. The sex drive is strong, and passion for life is high.
Jupiter is in Aquarius from December 19th, 2020, to May 13, 2021, and then from July 28 to December 28, 2021. Read more about the Jupiter in Aquarius transit. Jupiter is in Pisces from May 13th to July 28th, when it retreats into Aquarius. Jupiter returns to Pisces on December 28th, 2021. There will be another part to this 3-part act in 2022! Read more about the Jupiter in Pisces transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Cancer from June 2 to 27. We treat lovers with sympathy and tenderness, providing the emotional nurturing that they need. We tend to “play it safe” when it comes to relationships. Love and devotion are most important to us, and provide us with a sense of inner security. We seek a deep love in which we can merge souls and personalities with our lover. We are quite devoted to our partners, and we seek such devotion in return.
However, we could also become possessive, manipulative, and stifling. Familiarity is more important to us now. Our fear of rejection is overdeveloped, and we offer our hearts cautiously as a result. We pay more attention to our lovers’ feelings than their words. We feel threatened if a lover acts in an impersonal, overly independent, or detached manner. Safe and solid relationships are more appealing. Romantic and emotional hurts are very hard to forget.
Love is magnificent and grand!
This week: On Monday and Tuesday, our desire for the pleasures of life is strong, but we tend to overshoot. Troubles in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and pleasures. While we’re not necessarily saying the right things, we’re ready to grow through our missteps or through awkward moments. We’re particularly sensitive in our conversations. On Saturday, we’re inclined to talk about our feelings, connections, affections, and relationships. Nevertheless, we’re not especially clear on these things! We should watch for misrepresenting our feelings.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Cancer Mothering (or being mothered), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time – these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.
Venus in Leo Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired – needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.
Venus quincunx Jupiter June 28. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is with us now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomachs. Troubles in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.
Venus semi-square Mercury June 28-29. Communications between lovers are superficial and unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. Superficiality in romantic expression may exist now.
Venus parallel Mercury July 2-3. A congenial time when we appreciate diplomacy and socialize more readily.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune July 3. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus sextile North Node of the Moon July 5. There is a stronger desire to connect to and belong with others at this time. We are more obliging and sociable.
Venus opposition Saturn July 6. We keep others at arm’s length, unsure of whether we are loved or not. This is a somewhat inhibiting influence when it appears that people value utility over true love. An element of seriousness permeates our love relationships. We may feel criticized and inhibited, unloved and unsatisfied, but our worst enemies may be ourselves and our own fears of getting close to others.
Venus trine Chiron July 7. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships are intense and deep, but not draining.
Venus square Uranus July 8. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting, but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last–but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.
Venus conjunct Mars July 12-13. This is a passionate, warm, expressive, lively and sexy energy. We are now able to take the initiative to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. Our creativity and desire to make something beautiful is stimulated now. We are more able to combine warmth with energy. Social relations are impassioned, and perhaps demanding or extreme. In some cases this impulsive energy generates “love at first sight” scenarios or erotic interludes. Team work is more successful now. Some level of competition is present in our interactions, but it’s likely of a pleasurable and gently challenging kind. Impulsive purchases are possible.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, June 27th, from 3:08 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Monday, June 28th, at 1:51 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, June 30th, from 1:40 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aries at 9:22 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, July 3rd, from 12:15 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Taurus at 8:28 AM EDT.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Venus quincunx Jupiter. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is emphasized now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomach. Challenges in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.
Mercury semi-square Venus. Difficulties in social or romantic communication are possible today. On the other hand, we may make more efforts to be polite and to communicate. Hypersensitivity, and lack of mental discipline. Our minds wander.
Mars opposition Saturn. Circumstances or people tend to stand in our way or thwart our will just now, which can cause some feelings of resentment or frustration. It can be difficult to assert ourselves directly or in an otherwise healthy manner. Our desire to take action and to constructively express our aggressive urges feels thwarted or blocked. It can feel like more effort than usual is required to complete tasks.
Mars trine Chiron. We may have the opportunity to take the lead, or to take action, regarding matters that lead to healing, cleansing, or teaching now. We can feel a sense of mission now. There is likely to be a feeling of fearlessness when it comes to addressing problem areas, and self-confidence as well. There is a drive to take positive action, usually to defend or help others (or ourselves). It’s a strong period for cooperation and purposeful activity.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it’s wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. Take care with legal, financial, and social involvements, contracts, or formal agreements under this dreamy influence.
Sun quincunx Saturn. Doubts, the feeling of not being good enough, and lack of self-confidence might plague us under this influence. Lack of faith in ourselves and in life hinders our movements and initiatives.
Mars square Uranus. We have a tendency to take risks, to feel restless, and to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences. We assert our wills and individuality powerfully, and we are willing to fight for freedom. We might feel rebellious in the face of rules and regulations, particularly those we might feel are outdated, or anything that requires us to conform. There may be changes in work schedules, or life’s circumstances could challenge us in such a way that we need to change our goals or actions. Energy is stop and go, and it can be hard to focus on only one activity.

JUNE 27
Venus enters Leo early today and will transit the sign until July 21st. During this transit, we take pride in love, and we’re generous with our money. It’s a warm-hearted, playful, expressive, and proud placement for Venus. We tend to feed on attention, acknowledgment, validation, and adoration during this transit. We can have a high ego investment in our money, love life, children, or pastimes. We should watch for extravagance and for overstating our feelings only for effect. The Moon spends the day in Aquarius, and vital to our emotional satisfaction are feelings of independence, equality, and freedom. We’re inclusive and concerned with what’s best for all. Especially as the day advances, it’s a great time for gaining allies and for exchanging ideas. Conversations stand out, and shared interests are a likely topic.
The void Moon occurs from 3:08 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mercury), until the Moon enters Pisces tomorrow, Monday, June 28th, at 1:51 PM EDT.
JUNE 28
This morning’s Mars-North Node sextile supports the motivation to move forward or take on a challenge. We can enjoy making connections, or we seek satisfying activities in which to participate. There is a sense that we’re heading in the right direction or that we want to take steps to grow and improve. New opportunities are there if we look for them to help us achieve our desires. A Venus-Jupiter quincunx this afternoon is a minor aspect, but it can stir some restlessness along with some indecision about putting ourselves out there. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is in emphasis, although our eyes can be bigger than our stomachs. Challenges in relationships today are likely due to overblown expectations. Just for now, it can be difficult to find a balance between what we want to do and what we think we should do. The Moon continues its transit of fair-minded Aquarius until 1:51 PM EDT when it heads into creative Pisces.
The void Moon continues until 1:51 PM EDT today when the Moon enters Pisces.
JUNE 29
Mercury is semi-square Venus this morning, and we may be in two minds about a matter. It’s not easy to concentrate with this aspect in play, and we can be pretty sensitive to what we feel people mean in their communications. There can be minor but irritating disconnects as we either rationalize our feelings or emotionalize our observations. We are likely to be feeling sociable and a little indulgent, perhaps lacking concentration when it comes to work or mundane tasks. We don’t want to rock the boat early today, and may make extra effort to please, but some insincerity and lack of clarity may result. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Pisces, encouraging us to get in touch with our imaginative, compassionate side. We might avoid confrontations or challenging situations with a Pisces Moon. However, a Mars-Juno trine tonight encourages us to be direct with one another.
JUNE 30
The Moon spends much of the day in the sign of Pisces. This is a time for winding down, taking a break from the usual pace, and getting into “diffuse mode” to process and digest rather than focus too intently on specifics. There can be a burst of enthusiasm with the Moon entering Aries at 9:22 PM EDT. However, Mars and Saturn are moving towards an opposition, and if we press too hard, we can meet with blocks. Instead of tripping over ourselves attempting to push things that require more time, it’s a time for slowing down, disciplining ourselves, and considering practical angles.
The void Moon occurs from 1:40 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aries at 9:22 PM EDT.
JULY 1
This morning, Mars perfects its opposition to Saturn, and we may be dealing with a reality check or slow-down. General conditions or people can appear to stand in the way of progress or discourage us from seeking our desires, which can cause feelings of resentment or frustration. We’re getting the message that we are moving too quickly, and it drawing on patience will work to our benefit. It’s not easy to assert ourselves directly, or our assertions meet with a brick wall. Our desire to take action and to constructively express our aggressive urges feels thwarted or blocked. With waning motivation, we might find it particularly hard to get through our routines. At this time, we may recognize the need to adopt a humbler, more mature, or more conservative approach. These early-day frustrations subside, and we rebuild enthusiasm, ideally now equipped with a stronger sense of reality, as the day advances. A forward-looking Aries Moon helps this along. We head toward a Mars-Chiron trine, exact tomorrow morning, and we may have the opportunity to take the lead or to take action with matters that lead to healing, cleansing, or teaching. We’re fearlessly addressing problem areas. We may be defending and helping others, and we’re in great shape for cooperation and purposeful activity.
JULY 2
Mars perfects its trine to Chiron this morning, opening us up to healing and repair. It’s straightforward to channel our energy constructively. We’re ready to stand up for others, and we’re feeling vital, spirited, and positive. It’s a time of seeing the way around or over obstacles and hurdles. The Moon spends another day in the sign of Aries, inspiring our independence and desire to innovate. An Aries Moon is bold and spontaneous. We prefer to meet situations head-on, and we can be intent on starting fresh, being first, or pushing forward.
JULY 3
Today’s astrology is busy. Jupiter forms a quintile to Uranus, helping us find channels for expressing our need for change and progress in unique ways. Problem-solving is particularly clever. However, Venus forms a minor square with Neptune, and it might seduce us into believing things that we want to believe. While glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and people might feel good in the moment, it’s best to hold off on making important purchases or relationship decisions until the veil lifts. A Sun-Saturn quincunx can also play with our expectations. Doubts might slow down our movements and initiatives. However, a Mars-Uranus transit is likely to steal the show today, stimulating an urge to break free of restrictions. This influence can point to combative, rebellious, and unpredictable responses. It creates an atmosphere that tempts us to take risks or to act on impulses without considering consequences. We may be too quick to satisfy immediate desires or to rebel if we feel at all confined or restrained. We might feel frustrated with anything requiring us to conform, and we’re inclined to abruptly assert our independence. Inner tension begs for release now, but we should avoid sudden moves. The day can be complicated and frustrating but also pivotal.
The void Moon occurs from 12:15 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Taurus at 8:28 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Cancer Being more in touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do with feelings, but it’s more than that: it’s about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At some levels, this means a greater focus on family life – parents, children, relatives, the whole domestic scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you’re likely to find that houses and other real property take on greater significance for you. Nurturing is where it’s at in your life now: making things grow and taking care of them, planting seeds that will develop and survive far into the future – that’s what it’s all about.
Mercury in Gemini A walking encyclopedia, a yen to know a little bit about everything (and everyone): these are the icons of the cycle you have just begun. Talking, writing, keeping a finger on the pulse of all that’s happening … this is a time of study and learning, a cycle of mental challenge, curiosity, and social/intellectual growth. Such things are an end in themselves rather than a means to any other end.
Mars in Leo The thrill of the chase, the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd: that’s what gets your juices flowing now that you’ve entered a new cycle. To be appreciated, to be admired (adored, even) – that’s what you crave. It’s a time of creativity, drama, and passion; a time when grabbing the spotlight and stealing the scene gives you a thrill. Is winning everything? No – but it’s way ahead of whatever comes in second!
Jupiter in Pisces Mysticism, sensitivity to the needs of others, and an awareness of karma (the link between the present and the past): these are your paths to spiritual growth now. Addressing these issues brings you gain and satisfaction at many levels. A tolerance for differences, an understanding of human frailties and shortcomings.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation.
