Daily Trends
The NEW MOON occurs on Tuesday, May 11th, 2021, at 3:00 PM EDT.
On Tuesday afternoon, the New Moon occurs in the sign of Taurus. The Aries New Moon cycle ends and the Taurus New Moon cycle begins.
The New Moon in Taurus is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Bull. It’s time to enjoy life’s simple and physical pleasures–savor good food and enjoy activities that bring us in touch with nature and with our bodies. It’s time to stop and smell the roses and to become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure. This is a good cycle under which to re-evaluate our relationship to money and possessions and to discover what truly makes us happy and fulfilled.
This New Moon harmonizes with Neptune and Pluto, suggesting that our inspiration and determination support our efforts to begin fresh. While the squares to Saturn and Jupiter are wide, they’re relevant because the New Moon is closely square the Jupiter/Saturn midpoint. We can be dealing with the desire to grow and expand, but also with limits and rules, and these things may take up a lot of energy. We may need to watch for being too lax or controlling, working on getting to a good balance.
With this potent Taurus energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. It’s time to make some solid and realistic plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 21 degrees and 18 minutes of Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 17 to 25 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) the most significantly.
The above chart is good for seeing the most important influences and the chart patterns for this New Moon.

This week: The Sun is in Taurus; Mercury is in Gemini; Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Cancer.
The Sun is in Taurus from April 19 to May 20. In Taurus, the Sun is methodical, sensual, and receptive. The Sun in Taurus is most active when it is defending or resisting things! As the Sun moves through Taurus when plants take root, our determination and security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar, and values longevity. The shadow side of Taurus is possessiveness and bullheadedness.
Mercury is in Gemini from May 3 to July 11. When Mercury is in Gemini, we are especially communicative, curious, and sociable. Mercury feels right at home in Gemini, one of the signs that it rules. We tend to take more pleasure in gaining a superficial knowledge of many subjects rather than dig deep into any one topic. We are especially astute when it comes to arguing or making a point. We are attracted to wordplays, puns, and negotiations. We are easily distracted.
Venus is in Gemini from May 8 to June 2. In Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the attitude now. We are sociable, communicative, and interested. We can be animated and fun but may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions now may begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level with Venus in Gemini. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness.
Mars is in Cancer from April 23 to June 11. We pursue our interests ardently, but we avoid a direct approach to going after we want. As well, our goals and plans are subject to mood swings and vacillations. We are defensive rather than overtly aggressive. Much of what we do depends on our mood of the moment.
Jupiter is in Aquarius from December 19th, 2020, to May 13, 2021, and then from July 28 to December 28, 2021. Read more about the Jupiter in Aquarius transit.
Jupiter enters Pisces this week on May 13th. While it will transit Pisces only until July 28th when it retreats into Aquarius, it will return to Pisces on December 28th, 2021. There will be another part to this 3-part act in 2022!
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from May 8 to June 2. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Fickleness with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates.
Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. With this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: Venus doesn’t form major aspects to the major planets this week.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus square Jupiter May 7-8. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships. As well, take what your partner says with a grain of salt. There is no malicious intent involved, but feelings of elation can cloud our judgment, and we can promise more than we can deliver.
Venus contraparallel Pluto May 16. Romantic intensity, a feeling of fatedness, possessiveness, fear of betrayal, and insecurity in relationships. Questions of trust can emerge in relationships. Looking for a commitment.
Venus conjunct North Node May 16-17. This is a time for reaching out to others and making connections that further our growth. Cooperation brings rewards. There could be a feeling that we’re lucky in love or in our social life now.
Venus sextile Chiron May 17-18. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
Venus sesquiquadrature Pluto May 17-18. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus trine Saturn May 19. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism and maturity in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor, and have much potential to last.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, May 9th, from 6:51 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Taurus at 7:47 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, May 12th, from 8:24 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Gemini at 8:44 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, May 14th, from 6:52 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Cancer at 9:31 PM EDT.
May 2021:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the 11th, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waxing after the New Moon on the 11th, which is generally favorable for new beginnings, again with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs on Sunday, May 9th, from approximately 2:15 PM to 6:45 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Aries. The Moon is waning as we’re closing in on a New Moon at this point, making it better for pursuits in which you’re letting go rather than gearing up.
A Cazimi Moon occurs on Tuesday, May 11th, from approximately 2:35 PM to 3:25 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Taurus.
Note that another window won’t occur until May 21st.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury sextile Chiron. This is an excellent period for opening up communications with others, as we are more sensitive than usual and more willing to listen. Getting our point across is easier, as it’s not only about which words we choose to communicate, we intuitively express the meaning and intention behind the words. We can effectively use words to heal and comfort just now. We are also more open to new ways of looking at problems or at life in general.
Mars square Chiron. It can be challenging expressing our desires and our anger clearly and directly under this influence. There can be a tendency to rebel against others’ wishes or plans. We may be defensive and touchy, and resentments or frustrations can surface now.
Mars sextile Uranus. This is a period in which we are more willing than usual to take risks and to make necessary changes in our lives. We are naturally bold and assertive, willing to experiment, and conscious of a need to act independently. Our ideas may be ground-breaking, and at the very least progressive. A strong desire to make things happen is with us now.
Mercury trine Saturn. Clear, realistic thinking characterizes this influence. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now is likely to beget tangible results in the future. Conversations may be spare but to the point. Manifestation and achievement are what satisfy.
Sun sextile Neptune. We’re at the right place at the right time, probably because our hunches are more likely to be correct and we are “tuned in”. We are inspired, and charitable acts now will serve to lift our spirits like no drug can. A good time for self-improvement programs or efforts. Instinctual judgment is enhanced under this influence. We are able to see matters, and people, from a different perspective–one that allows for, and even finds beauty in, differences.
Mars quincunx Saturn. Awkward, stop-and-go energy. Attempts to force an issue tend to be thwarted. Indecision or fear can hold us back from taking direct action.

MAY 9
The Moon continues its transit of Aries until 7:47 PM EDT, encouraging our need for new initiatives, action, directness, and a straightforward approach to the world. With the Aries Moon’s square to Pluto this afternoon, we can feel that our ambitions limit our sense of independence. However, its sextile to Jupiter this evening inspires us to make the most of our circumstances. The Taurus Moon from 7:47 PM forward is content, patient, and persevering, encouraging us to enjoy the moment and settle in.
The void Moon occurs from 6:51 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Taurus at 7:47 PM EDT.
MAY 10
The Moon spends the day in Taurus, encouraging us to pay more attention to our physical needs or the material world. While we’re inclined to get comfortable, and it’s a great time to take a pause on this day before the New Moon, Mercury’s aspects stimulate our desire to grow and improve mentally. Learning, teaching, and communicating figure strongly. We might make valuable contact with people who share our intellectual interests or introduce us to new ideas that help us grow, improve, and expand. Or, we might connect with information that similarly moves us forward and challenges us to grow. Mercury’s sextile to Chiron provides an opportunity period for opening up healthy dialogues. We approach problems holistically, and problem-solving skills run high. This transit brings subtle but enhancing energy for communications. However, a couple of influences on the horizon can point to some blocks or insecurities. There can be challenges with motivation levels or resentment brewing. It’s best to wind down today with a New Moon occurring tomorrow, set to steer us a little differently.
MAY 11
The New Moon occurs in the sign of Taurus today at 3:00 PM EDT, making it an excellent time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Bull. It’s time to enjoy life’s simple and physical pleasures, as well as activities that bring us in touch with nature and with our bodies. This New Moon encourages us to “stop and smell the roses” and become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure. It’s an excellent cycle in which to re-evaluate our relationship to money and possessions. We’re discovering what truly satisfies and fulfills us. We may be building and developing the initiatives and innovations begun in the Aries cycle. With this potent Taurus energy, we have the chance to make significant changes in our lives. Also today, Mars forms a square to Chiron and a sextile to Uranus. We’re motivated to get out of a rut, innovate, or entertain new methods. We gravitate to new and unique ways of approaching the world around us. In the name of progress, we can be determined to let go of grudges or baggage, although it may not be straightforward to do so. Old emotional wounds may feel as if they’re wide open. There can be tension and pressure experienced now, as well as some irritability.
MAY 12
Mercury forms a trine to Saturn, helping us to see the practical side of things today. This transit supports work with details, realistic thinking, and step-by-step approaches to learning and communicating. It helps ground and center our thinking. Conversations may be spare but to the point or instructive. This is a good time for assisting others in understanding our perspective and a step-by-step approach to tasks and problems. We are cautious with our expectations, or at least we remind ourselves to be so. Later today, the Sun and Neptune head toward a sextile, and we’re seeking inspiration. We have better access to our imagination and intuition. What feels like serendipity experienced now may have to do with a good sense of timing and a feeling of being in sync with the universe. We are generous and charitable with our time and energy. We can see people and situations from a perspective that embraces and finds beauty in our differences. Philanthropic acts can be rewarding. This is also a good time for self-improvement programs or efforts. The Moon continues its transit of persevering Taurus until 8:44 AM EDT, after which the Moon is in intelligent, friendly Gemini.
The void Moon occurs from 8:24 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Gemini at 8:44 AM EDT.
MAY 13
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Gemini, encouraging our desire to connect and communicate. Its alignment with Mercury and harmony with Saturn helps extend the benefits of practical thinking. Jupiter enters Pisces this evening. While Jupiter usually spends about a year in a sign, this Jupiter in Pisces transit is divided into three date spans due to retrograde motion–first, because Jupiter returns to Aquarius for several months this year, and in 2022, because it returns to Pisces after spending a little time in Aries. Jupiter will be in Pisces from May 13 to July 28, 2021, from December 28, 2021, to May 10, 2022, and finally, from October 28 to December 20, 2022. Until July 28, we’re getting a sneak preview of this transit that encourages us to give of ourselves and embrace compassion and imagination. With Jupiter in Pisces, we attract luck and rich life experiences through our intuition, vision, and understanding. We’re charitable, and we look out for the underdog. We are more idealistic and perhaps less ambitious in a worldly sense, more motivated to give than receive. Jupiter in Pisces encourages us to attend to our needs for gentleness, understanding, and compassion. Indeed, we should watch for escapism, bending personal philosophies or morals to suit the situation, deception and self-deception, restlessness and vague discontent, and unwillingness to face problems or negative concerns directly.
MAY 14
A Gemini Moon keeps things busy and moving until 9:31 PM EDT. We can be especially curious, spending more time than usual in our minds. The Moon in Gemini brings out the chatty in people, as well as a strong desire to keep things stimulating, even if that means hopping from one project to the next. We’re reasonable, logical, and communicative, and we seek contacts and activities that stimulate us and satisfy our need for diversity, variety, and knowledge. At 9:31 PM, the Moon heads into soulful, protective Cancer. Its trine to Jupiter, which is newly in the sign of Pisces, boosts our feelings of joy and comfort with the world of emotions.
The void Moon occurs from 6:52 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Cancer at 9:31 PM EDT.
MAY 15
Mars forms a quincunx to Saturn this morning, pointing to some stop-and-go energy. Attempts to force an issue meet resistance. Sometimes the resistance is internal – indecision or fear can hold us back from taking direct action. This transit has a way of stimulating a glass-half-empty perspective. Rules, restrictions, and limits feel heavy and difficult to coordinate or synthesize with our wants and desires. Timing is off as a result, and the need to adjust our plans can become apparent. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Cancer, and we favor comfort over satisfying our curiosity. We seek familiarity, safety, and quiet. This transit encourages us to center ourselves and let go of overthinking, and it becomes easier as the day advances. Home, family, and familiar settings or situations appeal more than usual.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Taurus The cycle now dawning in your life emphasizes stability, substance, practicality, and the concept of value – value in the material as well as psycho-spiritual sense. This marks a time of building to last, of appreciating the substantial rather than ephemeral. Consolidating past gains rather than focusing on radical new departures is likely to be a major theme for you during this cycle. Appreciating the finer things of life is another hallmark of this phase, which marks a time when you should be concentrating on “smelling the roses” rather than passing them by in such a hurry.
Mercury in Gemini A walking encyclopedia, a yen to know a little bit about everything (and everyone): these are the icons of the cycle you have just begun. Talking, writing, keeping a finger on the pulse of all that’s happening … this is a time of study and learning, a cycle of mental challenge, curiosity, and social/intellectual growth. Such things are an end in themselves rather than a means to any other end.
Mars in Cancer Defensive, aren’t we? With this new cycle getting underway, protecting and preserving you and yours takes on a higher than usual priority. A sensitivity to the needs and wants of others and an appreciation for their frailties (as well as your own) makes you more cautious and conservative … you pick your battles with care.
Jupiter in Aquarius Innovation, reform, and idealism are your paths to growth and gain now. New, futuristic ideas are part of this, but it’s more than that: putting them into practice is essential because this is much more than empty idealism. A break from the past, a willingness to flaunt convention.
Jupiter in Pisces Mysticism, sensitivity to the needs of others, and an awareness of karma (the link between the present and the past): these are your paths to spiritual growth now. Addressing these issues brings you gain and satisfaction at many levels. A tolerance for differences, an understanding of human frailties and shortcomings.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
