The NEW MOON occurred on Saturday, March 13th, 2021, at 5:21 AM EST.
The New Moon in Pisces marked the beginning of a new cycle, occurring last week on Saturday morning. It’s a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Fish. These include taking a leap of faith, accepting imperfections in ourselves and in others as a different kind of “perfection,” starting a project that requires imagination and visualization skills, consciously putting time aside for peaceful and rejuvenating activities, and sharing a dream with another.
With this potent Pisces energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives.
This New Moon is especially creative and romantic with its alignment to Venus and Neptune. Venus and Neptune are approaching a conjunction in the sign of Pisces. The major bodies are direct, contributing to a feeling of moving forward.
Ceres is conjunct Chiron in Aries at the time of this New Moon, lending a sense that we’re growing and helping one another through sensitivity to our vulnerabilities.
This phase of the Moon occurred at 23 degrees and 4 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 19 to 27 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.
While the chart above is excellent for getting a strong sense for the chart pattern and major themes, the following alternate chart with additional bodies (Chiron, asteroids, Eris, etc.) shows more detail, if needed:
Next week, on March 21st:
The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at 10:40 AM EDT.
On Sunday morning, the First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Pisces forms a square with the Moon in Gemini. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 1 degree and 12 minutes of Cancer forming a square with the Sun at 1 degree and 12 minutes of Aries, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 29 to 30 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) and 0 to 3 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Pisces until the 20th when it enters Aries; Mercury is in Aquarius until the 15th when Mercury enters Pisces; Venus is in Pisces; Mars is in Gemini.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18 to March 20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
The Sun is in Aries from March 20 to April 19. In Aries, the Sun is enthusiastic and spontaneous. We are motivated by the desire to conquer. We are more impulsive, and have the urge to initiate. Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly–there is little shame with Aries. It is brave and pioneering, and somewhat innocent. We are direct and rather uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted and lack the desire to plan ahead.
Mercury is in Aquarius from January 8 to March 15. [This has been an extended stay due to a retrograde cycle that occurred from January 30-February 20.] When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.
Mercury is in Pisces from March 15 to April 3rd. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
Venus is in Pisces from February 25 to March 21. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach nevertheless, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be victimized or deluded, as well as evasiveness.
Mars is in Gemini from March 3 to April 23. In Gemini, Mars is considerably more versatile and flexible–and considerably less determined and focused! Our interests become more diversified, possibly to the point of going off on so many tangents that we are scattered and ineffective. It’s an excellent time for strategizing and devising useful tactics to achieve our desires and goals. We’re resourceful and clever, and we know how to use words effectively.
Jupiter is in Aquarius from December 19th, 2020, to May 13, 2021, and then from July 28 to December 28, 2021. Read more about the Jupiter in Aquarius transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Pisces from February 25 to March 21. Like Aquarius, Pisces love is universal. However, Pisces draws no bounds in love. With Venus in Pisces, we have compassion (and perhaps attraction) for those who are left out, overlooked, or victimized. We are self-sacrificing, and we have a hard time setting up borders. The walls go down, we have a hard time saying no (especially if our compassion is engaged), but we are also prone to avoiding all that makes us feel uncomfortable.
Wishful thinking is one expression of Venus in Pisces. We can too easily believe what we want to believe. People can be hard to pin down, and love is hard to define under this influence. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be deluded, as well as evasiveness.
This week: On Sunday, we are open, forgiving, willing to give one another the benefit of the doubt, and seeing the best in our relationships. On Monday, we can be a bit flighty with one another, unsure whether we want to be close to someone or free from ties temporarily. On Tuesday and Wednesday, there continues to be some tension if we feel obligated or if someone seems to be holding us back. By Thursday, we’re far more determined to make what we have work for us. A Venus-Pluto sextile supports intimacy, understanding, and depth in our connections.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus conjunct Neptune March 13. New and fresh beginnings on romantic levels characterize this transit. Heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion.
Venus parallel Neptune March 13-14.
Venus semi-square Uranus March 15. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
Venus semi-square Saturn March 16-17. Feelings of isolation, of not getting what we really want, and of not being loved the way we want to be loved can get in the way of pleasant relations with our partners.
Venus sextile Pluto March 17-18. Subtly powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions.
Venus conjunct the Sun March 25-26. Good relating is the focus, although some may find this energy superficial in that surface charm, diplomacy, and harmony is the goal. The pursuit of pleasure is emphasized.
Venus semi-square Jupiter March 26-27. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, March 15th, from 11:40 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Taurus the next day, Tuesday, March 16th, at 6:56 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, March 18th, from 4:40 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Gemini at 7:47 PM EDT.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun semi-square Saturn. It’s hard to satisfy the ego today. We feel blocked by circumstances or others. It’s too easy to feel discouraged, but discouragement is a time waster. Gratitude isn’t forthcoming right now, so it’s best to wait it out rather than waste energy letting it get to you.
Venus semi-square Uranus. Unusual attractions (to people and things) can have us acting on a whim. We may deal with freedom versus closeness issues in our relationships. Avoid impulse buys at this time, and hold off on decision-making with regards to finances. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness is probable in romantic relationships. We may not see eye to eye with a loved one, and we could be taken off guard by unexpected events. This is not a favorable aspect for beauty treatments because they could have unexpected results.
Sun sextile Pluto. Research brings rewards. We benefit now from strategy and keeping things to ourselves for the time being. Opportunities to find or renew something we had lost, and to gain some power are available now.
Venus semi-square Saturn. There may be difficulties relating to others under this influence. People may be cool with their affections and emotionally distant. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be “money pits” as time passes. There may be anxiety or troubles with regards to matters concerned with the feelings. Romantic disappointments, unrequited love, separations, and broken engagements are the more negative manifestations. We tend to lack social confidence at this time and adopt a shy, formal, or reserved social manner. This transit is best used for reflection.
Mars sextile Chiron. We may have the opportunity to take the lead, or to take action, regarding matters that lead to healing, cleansing, or teaching now. We can feel a sense of mission. There is likely to be a feeling of fearlessness when it comes to addressing problem areas, and self-confidence as well. There is a drive to take positive action, usually to defend or help others (or ourselves). It’s a strong period for cooperation and purposeful activity.
Venus sextile Pluto. If we seize the opportunity, this is a good time for both finances and relationships. The feelings are impassioned, but not in an offensive or unpleasant way. We are focused and confident, and we appreciate depth of feeling and authenticity in our dealings with others.
Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

MARCH 14
The Moon spends the day in the sign of bold, initiating Aries, encouraging us to start fresh or take on a new challenge. The Moon harmonizes with Mars and Saturn, and we readily turn tensions into winning situations today. Still, we’re heading to a Sun-Saturn semi-square, exact early tomorrow, which casts a serious tone to the day. We’re tuning into our sense of duty and desire to protect, control, and build. We’re cautious and serious-minded, and we could face challenges to self-expression. Responsibilities can weigh heavily on our minds.
MARCH 15
The Moon spends the day in pioneering Aries, and we want to move on and start fresh. A Venus-Uranus semi-square suggests impermanent tastes, attractions, and whims. The need for new challenges or a novel approach may be at the root of this. Changes now can create fresh opportunities that can add to our sense of joy and freedom, but it can take some trial and error to understand our needs and wants. Mercury enters the sign of Pisces today and will transit the sign until April 3rd. During this cycle, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors our thoughts and communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We gravitate to consciousness-raising information.
The void Moon occurs from 11:40 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Taurus tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16th, at 6:56 AM EDT.
MARCH 16
The Moon continues its transit of Aries until it moves into Taurus at 6:56 AM EDT. With a Taurus Moon, we’re seeking some stability, sameness, and familiarity. We’re nevertheless open to making some changes with a Sun-Pluto sextile and the Moon’s alignment with Uranus tonight. The Sun’s sextile to Pluto puts us in a renovating spirit. We seek a little more depth from our activities and connections. This influence subtly increases our ambition, determination, and dedication. Making improvements or working toward a personal goal can be successful now. We tend to direct our energy constructively and seek out new insight into our lives.
The void Moon period continues until 6:56 AM when the Moon enters Taurus.
MARCH 17
A Venus-Saturn semi-square aspect today can point to possible diffidence in our interactions. We may be cool with our sentiments and emotionally distant. Anxiety or troubles with matters concerned with the feelings and affections are likely. Although it’s a clumsy aspect, the second half of the day is vital for enthusiasm and healing power. Mars forms a sextile to Chiron, and we may have the opportunity to take the lead or take action that leads to healing, cleansing, or teaching. We can feel a pleasant, motivating sense of mission. We can be fearless about addressing problem areas. There is a drive to take affirmative action, most likely to defend or help ourselves and others. We want to fix problems, and we latch onto projects and activities that give us a stronger sense of purpose. The Moon spends the day in steady and resolute Taurus.
MARCH 18
Today’s Venus-Pluto sextile can help us gain new insight into our relationships, money matters, and comfort or pleasure needs. Or, we take a comfortably strategic approach to these things. Our feelings are more focused and intensified in a generally pleasant and positive way. In fact, we seek depth of emotion and authenticity in our dealings. The Taurus Moon taps into this energy through harmonious aspects, and we’re emotionally onboard and invested. Today’s Venus-Mars quintile is excellent for seeing relating patterns and using them positively to encourage creativity and excitement. The Moon continues its transit of sensual, determined Taurus until 7:47 PM EDT when it enters communicative, versatile Gemini.
The void Moon occurs from 4:40 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Gemini at 7:47 PM EDT.
MARCH 19
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Gemini, aligning with Mars and keeping our minds in motion. It may not be easy to concentrate today, but it can be a good time to pick up interesting information. We suffer no shortage of ideas, although it may be challenging to decide between them. Our thoughts might race, and we can be very quick (possibly too fast) to respond and react. However, the Moon also forms a trine to Saturn, helping us pace ourselves and boosting our tactical skills. We’re on the ball, sharp, agile, and curious. With a Saturn-Ceres sextile, we’re recognizing the value of organizing and structuring our home life or relationships with loved ones. Responsibilities to our loved ones are clear, and we more readily accept them. Tomorrow morning, the Sun will enter Aries, but today, it travels through the last degree of the zodiac, and we might look back before moving forward.
MARCH 20
The Sun enters pioneering Aries this morning, marking the time of the Spring equinox and the start of the astrological New Year. The Sun will transit the sign of Aries until April 19th. We’re enthusiastic and spontaneous during this cycle, and we can be motivated by the desire to conquer, initiate, or pioneer. We are impulsive, and we want to come first and innovate. Aries is a sign that bounces back quickly and is often without pause for regret. We are direct, brave, and relatively uncomplicated in our needs, but we can also be short-sighted or impatient. The Moon spends the day in connected, intelligent Gemini. While the Gemini Moon’s square to Neptune this afternoon can point to some listlessness, it encourages us to diversify and put our feelers out. We’re more interactive and versatile with this Moon.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn’t cut it anymore: it’s the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
Mars in Gemini Learning, communicating, the exchange of ideas: these are the experiences you crave as a means to make your mark now, as a new phase begins in your life. You’re a person with something to say, and you realize that others have information that is essential to your goals. A time of much mental energy and initiative … perhaps with an element of conflict tossed in for good measure.
Jupiter in Aquarius Innovation, reform, and idealism are your paths to growth and gain now. New, futuristic ideas are part of this, but it’s more than that: putting them into practice is essential because this is much more than empty idealism. A break from the past, a willingness to flaunt convention.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
