The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Tuesday, June 7th, 2022, at 10:48 AM EDT.

On Tuesday morning, the First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Gemini forms a square with the Virgo Moon. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we become aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.

Ideally, these challenges motivate us to improve our projects. This can be a time of stress, clashing, and discord, but also of high energy, motivation, and growth.

 

This phase of the Moon occurs at 16 degrees and 51 minutes of Virgo square the Sun at the same degree of Gemini, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 15 to 19 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

The Sun is in Gemini from May 20-June 21. Knowledge and diversity motivate us with the Sun in Gemini. We are more sociable, intellectual, and insatiably curious under this influence. We tend to scatter our energies due to this curiosity and awareness of all of our options. We are more communicative and versatile, but we can also be unreliable.

Gemini represents duality and mediation. Gemini’s energy is intelligent, optimistic, observant, and adaptable. It’s skeptical, ready to consider alternate ways of thinking. We’re prepared to trade, share, exchange, pass on news, teach, guide, and learn.

We gather information during the Sun-in-Gemini cycle, and we benefit from this transit’s objectivity. We’re quick-witted, cheerful, engaging, and we easily adapt, observe, and listen–it’s a clever and crafty influence.

On the downside, we can be gossipy, overly intellectual, or too rational when a softer touch would be more appropriate. As we relay and process information, we could be living too much in our heads, disconnected from what’s in our hearts.

Mercury is in Taurus from April 10-29 and May 22-June 13. When Mercury is in Taurus, our thinking is down to earth, solid, and grounded. Common sense reigns over more fanciful thinking. We communicate more deliberately under this influence, and our minds are oriented to the world of the five senses. We prefer the tried and true rather than new ways of thinking.

Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives, but we may be in danger of narrow, overly conservative, or rigid thinking. It’s a time of practical intelligence and comfortably-paced decisions and thought processes. We’re capable of (and content with) rote, routine, deliberate, or monotonous work and methods.

Venus is in Taurus from May 28-June 22. In Taurus, Venus is naturally very sensual, content, and possessive. We seek security and value those things that are long-lasting. Our appetite for pleasure is strong.

The sign of Taurus values the here and now and the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance figure strongly during the Venus-in-Taurus cycle. Holding on to someone or something we love is our tendency under this influence.

The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own.

On the financial side, Venus in Taurus looks for high-quality, solid, practical, and long-lasting items. Holding on to our possessions is more likely now. With art, tastes, and pleasures, we prefer things that are earthy, natural, and grounded. We can be somewhat indulgent at this time. Uncertainty bothers us more than usual–we favor stability over excitement in love and pleasure.

Mars is in Aries from May 24-July 5. Mars feels at home in Aries, one of the signs that it rules, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident.

Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.

We pursue our goals straightforwardly, confidently, unabashedly, and directly with Mars in Aries. The same goes for expressing anger. We want to be first, come first, and do things on our own–our independence, enterprise, and initiative are well-developed.

This transit is better for endeavors that require courage and strong but not necessarily sustained passion and energy. We don’t want to look back or overthink–we only concern ourselves with what we can accomplish right now. Not inclined to beat around the bush, we confidently pursue our desires.

Uranus is in Taurus.

Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.

There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

Romance & Relationships

Venus is in Taurus from May 28-June 22. In Taurus, Venus is usually quite content, but can be possessive. We seek security and value that which lasts. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the here and the now as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own.

This week: On Sunday and Monday, the 5-6, there are some tendencies to project our fantasies, whether these are positive or negative, onto others or relationships. Watch for deception and self-deception now.

On Wednesday and Thursday, while we may not be expressive or outwardly affectionate, we’re responsible. Some pulling back can occur in relationships now, as we are more self-conscious and cautious with our affections.

However, on Saturday, the 11th, we’re ready to explore, experiment, and change things up. The need for a fresh start is with us. We want to move forward fearlessly into the future.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Taurus A love of music, an appreciation for sensual pleasures and others of the finer things in life – such are the signs of the cycle which has begun for you. This is aesthetic and artistic to be sure, but it is also practical and materialistic: you develop a keen appreciation for the value of things, including the money it takes to buy them.

Venus semi-sextile Mars June 3. We might struggle with whether to take a direct or indirect approach to get what we want. In truth, we may be better off recognizing that it doesn’t have to be one way or the other–a combination would be ideal, or else the see-sawing can be confusing.

Venus semi-square Neptune June 5-6. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.

Venus contra-parallel Saturn June 8-9. We may express our affection sparingly, but also responsibly and in practical ways. Relationships begun under this influence often feel burdensome over time, but they may last longer than most. Some pulling back can occur in relationships now, as we are more self-conscious and cautious with our affections.

Venus conjunct Uranus June 11. We have a taste for the unusual and the avant garde. We are itching for a change. What makes a person unique is more attractive under this influence. Excitement and newness are valued over permanence in social relationships. Freedom is more important than intimacy just now. We lose our fears of taking risks in love and social situations. Romantic infatuations, gossip, unanticipated opportunities socially or financially. We have a greater need for self-expression, personal freedom, and social excitement.

Sun sextile Chiron. An opportunity to find a sense of purpose or a “mission” arises now, increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong. Problem solving is favored.

Venus semi-square Neptune. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it’s wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. The Moon opposes Saturn this afternoon, and we can be frustrated by little things that go wrong or responsibilities that pull us away from our interests. Once past this, the day shapes up to be playful and expressive. The Leo Moon is vibrant and competitive. As well, the Sun heads toward a sextile to Chiron, exact tomorrow morning, and we might find a sense of purpose or a mission, increasing our confidence, possibly through our communications and enterprising spirit. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and people in our lives is strong and healthy now. Problem-solving is favored, and we’re likely to feel empowered.

The void Moon occurs from 7:14 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mercury), until the Moon enters Virgo tomorrow, Monday, June 6th, at  at 2:23 AM EDT.

JUNE 6

The Sun’s sextile to Chiron this morning strengthens problem-solving skills as it helps us see the bigger picture. However, a Venus-Neptune semi-square, also occurring this morning, suggests some tendencies to gloss over problems or see what we want to see, imagining the best or the worst. Of course, the truth is somewhere in between. We might have temporary doubts about our lovability and worth or about relationships, pleasure, or comfort levels. Alternatively, we might go in the other direction and look the other way in the face of critical flaws and details. The Moon enters Virgo at 2:23 AM EDT, and we seek to tie up loose ends and deal with routine matters. This Moon transit draws out our desire to heal, help, and fix.

The Moon continues its void period until it enters Virgo today at 2:23 AM EDT.

JUNE 7

The Moon in Virgo is particular, helpful, and intelligent. We want to tidy up our lives, starting with the details. Today’s Mars-Saturn semi-square suggests it’s best to slow down in the face of obstacles, as trying to move too fast can serve to create more resistance. Since circumstances seem to block our efforts to assert ourselves, patience is necessary now. Helping with this is a Mars-Pluto quintile. With this transit, we’re willing to challenge ourselves, and we tend to gravitate toward plans and strategies to get what we desire. It’s a good time to identify problems and make plans to fix them.

JUNE 8

The Moon continues its transit of detail-oriented Virgo until 11:24 AM EDT, and we’re ready to solve problems. From 11:24 AM forward, the Moon transits Libra, sensitizing us to social cues and relationship matters. Those things that are out of balance or unfair can be more noticeable. The Moon opposes Jupiter this evening, which is “borrow from the future” energy, and we should be careful not to commit to something for which we don’t yet have the resources. Also today, there can be a strong sense of duty associated with loved ones or caring for people in our lives, perhaps without a feeling that we are appreciated for our efforts. We may need to make decisions about family, health, or nutrition.

JUNE 9

The Moon in Libra is gracious. We seek harmony, but our attempts to achieve it can seem to create conflict this morning. We’re especially sensitive to areas of our lives (and especially our relationships) that have come out of balance. With a Moon-Mars opposition, there can be some impatience and combativeness. We can be quick to react. This transit stirs our need for action, activity, and challenges, which can feel at odds with our emotional orientation. The Moon’s trine to the Gemini Sun later today is more cooperative. We’re idealistic, feeling readily connected to one another or to our ideas and plans.

JUNE 10

Mercury forms a trine to Pluto today, and we’re likely to arrive at answers and solutions that eluded us in recent months. A trine between Mercury and Pluto suggests an opportunity to gain a mental advantage. Our mental faculties are attuned to otherworldly impressions, offering us increased insight, psychological understanding and awareness, and focused attention. We are drawn to looking for truths and to unexplored topics and ideas. Mercury formed this same aspect in late April and then, while retrograde, in May. We’ve been looking to the past for answers, and we might now arrive at especially valuable truths or insights. We are gaining a deeper understanding of a matter. We might discover new information that gives us an edge or finally “see” the truth of a matter that we’ve been avoiding. It’s a good time to let go of something that has kept us bound to harmful elements of the past. The Moon continues its transit of Libra until it heads into Scorpio at 4:42 PM EDT.

JUNE 11

Venus aligns with Uranus in the sign of Taurus today, and the need to express ourselves freely and openly comes on strongly. It’s a time when we go a little off-script socially. Whether we’re aware of this or not, we’re itching for a change! Connecting with this desire can help us steer and navigate better. For the time being, we value stimulation and newness over permanence. We lose our fear of taking risks in love, with pleasure, and in social situations. There can be infatuations, whims, gossip, and unexpected opportunities socially or financially. We have a greater need for self-expression, personal freedom, and social excitement. This influence encourages us to let go of rigidity. Still, the Moon transits Scorpio all day, awakening a need to tap into our passions and desires. This Moon opposes Venus and Uranus in Taurus tonight, and we can feel torn between stubbornly resisting change and embracing it.

When the Moon is in Leo

The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.

The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.

When the Moon is in Virgo

We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.

When the Moon is in Libra

Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.

The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.

When the Moon is in Scorpio

 Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.

The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
