The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Monday, June 26th, 2023, at 3:50 AM EDT. 

Early Monday, a First Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Cancer forms a square with the Moon in Libra.

There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, and we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we become  aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.

With a First Quarter Moon, we may want to get something going, but we may not know the next step or the exact direction we want it/us to take. Most suitable activities now include taking action, pushing forward, making offers, researching more options, meeting new people, and gathering new/additional supplies you may need to further a project. It’s best to watch for overconfidence or overshooting the mark. We might use the stress generated now to make changes.

This phase of the Moon occurs at 4 degrees and 29 minutes of Libra square the Sun at the same degree of Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 2 to 6 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Cancer; Mercury is in Gemini until the 26th, when it enters Cancer; Venus is in Leo; Mars is in Leo.

The Sun is in Cancer from June 21-July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home,” safe, and secure.

Nurturing and caring for our loved ones and pet projects come into focus. Emotions run deep, and we easily tune in to the world of feelings. Note that we are more in tune with the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.

We may not want to grow up and face responsibilities or the outside world during the Sun-in-Cancer cycle. We should watch for dependence when we’d do better for ourselves otherwise. However, it’s a robust transit for recognizing our needs for comfort, safety, and familiarity. We’re inclined to form strong bonds and protect our loved ones.

Mercury is in Gemini from June 11-26. When Mercury is in Gemini, we are especially communicative, curious, and sociable. Mercury rules Gemini and feels right at home in the sign. We tend to take more pleasure in gaining a superficial knowledge of many subjects rather than dig deep into any one topic.

When it comes to making a point or debating, we are especially astute while Mercury is in Gemini. We are attracted to wordplays, puns, and negotiations, and we’re easily distracted. It’s a time when we’re more interested in trivia, information tidbits, and detached observations. There can be frequent changes of mind and subject. We’re flexible and quick to grasp topics.

Mercury is in Cancer from June 26-July 11. When Mercury is in Cancer, we move from the desire for quantity with information to the need for quality. We think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more instinctive level. We have less interest in what is universal and more interest in what affects us personally and the people close to us. Our thoughts are colored by our emotions, making it more challenging to be objective.

We have outstanding and detailed memories during this cycle. We’re more likely to absorb information about the emotional background or atmosphere/setting around us, picking up on moods and tones in addition to facts.

While we may not have great confidence in our ability to generate new or original ideas, we have a well-developed sense of humor and radiate warmth in our communications. We take great interest in (and notice of) personal issues and interactions during this period. We don’t care much for intellectual stands if they’re devoid of a personal or heartful element, and we need intimate settings to express ourselves fully.

Venus is in Leo from June 5-October 8. [This transit is longer than usual due to the retrograde of Venus in Leo from July 22nd to September 3rd.] Love is magnificent and grand while Venus is in Leo. We take pride in love, and we are generous with our money as well. This is a warmhearted, teasing, expressive, proud, and extravagant placement for Venus. Love is a bit of a game–a game that is perpetual, as Venus in Leo is forever stuck in the romance stage of a relationship. We feed on attention, acknowledgement, validation, and adoration.

Venus in Leo loves to be adored, pampered, and admired. Pride and passion are hallmarks of this cycle. We have a strong ego investment in our love lives during this period. The negative expression of this placement is overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.

The Venus-in-Leo cycle can be a strong or profitable time for contests, lotteries, parties, recreation, drama, adornment, jewelry, costumes, art dealing, and all things golden. Generosity and warmth contribute to our ability to draw in the right resources. We can have a compelling desire to stand out, be remarkable, and feel special during this period.

Mars is in Leo from May 20-July 10. In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We are spirited and have grand goals. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals. The sex drive is strong, and passion for life is high.

Mars in Leo can awaken a competitive spirit or drive. We’re more willing to take risks to get what we want. We also tend to make a splash, and we want to be in the driver’s seat. This transit is passionate, ardent, and dramatic. We seek to appear strong and prefer to be in the lead or the center of attention. We can be particularly angry if we feel disrespected or in an undignified position.

Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.

There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

However, on Saturday, the 1st, we can wrestle with our simultaneous needs for freedom and closeness. Reactions can be rebellious.

Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus in Leo Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired – needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.

Venus parallel Uranus June 21-22. We embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit. Peculiar, sudden, or avant garde attractions. This is an exciting but unstable energy. Friendship in love relationships becomes more important.

Venus semi-square Mercury June 28. Communications between lovers are superficial and unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. Superficiality in romantic expression may exist now.

Venus trine Chiron June 28-29. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings.

Venus square Uranus July 1-2. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting, but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last–but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.

Venus parallel Mars July 4. Favors romantic and sexual relationships. Intense passions.

Venus parallel Jupiter July 4. We are charitable with others and have a stronger desire than usual to find meaning in our relationships. There may be some overstating or overindulgence now, however.

Venus quincunx Neptune July 15. Idealism and disappointments in love. Avoid becoming blinded by what you want to see, rather than what really is. Doubts about love.

Mercury square Saturn. Getting from point A to point B can be a challenge during this transit due to obstacles. Communications may be blocked or delayed, and negative thinking could dominate at this time. Projects we thought were complete may need revision, and others could appear overly critical, insensitive, or sarcastic. It’s difficult to trust our instincts, and we second-guess things automatically under this influence. Avoid signing on the dotted line at this time.

Mars square Uranus. We have a tendency to take risks, to feel restless, and to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences. We assert our wills and individuality powerfully, and we are willing to fight for freedom. We might feel rebellious in the face of rules and regulations, particularly those we might feel are outdated, or anything that requires us to conform. There may be changes in work schedules, or life’s circumstances could challenge us in such a way that we need to change our goals or actions. Energy is stop and go, and it can be hard to focus on only one activity.

Mercury quincunx Pluto. Something we write or say could trigger power struggles or hostility from others. We may be plagued with self-doubt in our attempts to make decisions. Decisions made now are unlikely to be objective. Re-assessing decisions we have made already, or adjusting our plans, may be in order. Second-guessing.

Sun semi-square Uranus. During this transit, we feel the need for action, but if we don’t know where we’re headed, we might take the wrong turn. Unexpected changes in plans or events can test our patience, and we might feel a bit out of control. However, they could stimulate us to try new approaches and they certainly act to cut boredom. This transit could offer us the drive to do something new, but avoid making hasty major decisions for the time being.

Sun trine Saturn. We feel grounded and stable. It’s easy to stick to a specific task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it’s steady. We have common sense at our disposal. We are willing to look reality in the eye and to take responsibility for our lives.

Mercury semi-square Venus. Difficulties in social or romantic communication are possible today. On the other hand, we may make more efforts to be polite and to communicate. Hypersensitivity, and lack of mental discipline. Our minds wander.

Venus trine Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses, and are less inclined to see fault, or to concern ourselves with fault. It’s a strong time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another.

Mercury semi-square Uranus. We can have flashes of insight, but tend to be scatterbrained. Our ideas and communications may not be well-received because they don’t seem to others to carry weight. Our minds are not peaceful or harmonious under this influence, and irritable tempers, sarcastic speech, and dogmatism are negative expressions of this energy.

Mercury trine Saturn. Clear, realistic thinking characterizes this influence. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now is likely to beget tangible results in the future. Conversations may be spare but to the point. Manifestation and achievement are what satisfy.

Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!

Mercury sextile Jupiter. Positive thinking, new insights, and cooperation are themes now. This influence favors short trips, writing, teaching, studying, submitting applications and forms, test taking, and making diagnoses and observations. This is a time when we more readily exercise good judgment, take a more philosophical approach to thinking, and are more open to learning.

Mercury semi-square Mars. We are quick-witted and ready to argue under this influence. We may be working under stressful or hectic conditions, as we feel pressure to get things done quickly. We are inclined to be snappy and irritable, and we may too easily interrupt others rather than listen. Conflicts of interest are likely.

Sun sextile Jupiter. This transit can bring hopefulness, good will, and increased influence into our lives. It’s favorable for marketing, publishing, and advertising, as well as any self-promotion activities. We may be especially sociable, tolerant, and generous under this influence. Confidence comes from a stronger sense of who we are and the principles we represent. Some form of recognition or distinction is possible now. We are more able to grasp the “big picture” which expands our perspective.

Sun semi-square Mars. Circumstances spur us into action. Aggressiveness and conflicts are possible now. As long as we channel the excess energy constructively, instead of wasting our time arguing, we can accomplish much. We may have “spring fever” now, no matter what the season! We could find ourselves driven by a restless desire to do something; but without a well-defined goal, we tend towards impulsive actions and get ourselves into needless arguments.

JUNE 25

The Moon in Virgo until 6:58 PM EDT is organized, practical, and efficient. However, today’s Mercury-Neptune square is anything but, and while we want to keep on top of things, it can be difficult to translate. We find it challenging to follow or clearly communicate facts, directions, and instructions. Perceptions may be confused or overly idealistic, influenced heavily by wishful thinking and imagination. We may be dealing with deception or self-deception, and it can be difficult to be discriminating. On the plus side, our minds are open to many possibilities and options. The Libra Moon from 6:58 PM forward is relationship-focused, harmonious, and gracious, although as the day advances, we get closer to a Mars-Uranus square, which can feel a little chaotic. A rebellious spirit can set in.

JUNE 26

The Moon continues its transit of Libra today, and the First Quarter Moon occurs at 3:51 AM EDT when the Cancer Sun forms a square with the Libra Moon. We may become aware of obstacles related to a plan or project. This can be a time of stress, clashing, and discord, but also of high energy, motivation, and growth. We’re competitive and ambitious, stirred into action.

Energizing this theme is Mars forming a square to Uranus this morning, stimulating an urge to break free of restrictions. This influence can point to combative, rebellious, and unpredictable responses. It creates an atmosphere that tempts us to take risks or act on impulses without considering the consequences. We may be too quick to satisfy immediate desires or to rebel if we feel at all confined or restrained. We can be frustrated with anything requiring us to conform, and we’re inclined to assert our independence abruptly. Inner tension begs for release now, but we should avoid sudden moves.

Mercury’s quincunx to Pluto this afternoon–just before Mercury changes signs– suggests our perceptions are off. It may be better not to make final judgments. Certainly, decision-making can be fraught. It’s difficult to digest or accept a matter. We might also trigger negative responses from others.

Mercury moves into the sign of Cancer, where it will transit until July 11th. During this cycle, we think, speak, and take in information on a deep, intuitive level. Our emotions color our thoughts more than usual, we communicate with more sensitivity, meaning, and care, and our memory is retentive. It’s a time to absorb information about the emotional background, atmosphere, and setting. We’re picking up on moods and tones in addition to facts. The day can be complicated and frustrating in spots, but also pivotal.

JUNE 27

The Moon spends the day in balanced, tactful Libra, and we’re focusing on harmonizing our relationships and environment. The Moon’s sextiles to Venus and Mars boost our interpersonal skills further. We’re amorous and creative. Mercury forms a sextile with the True North Node of the Moon, and we might connect with information or people who encourage us to grow, improve, or move forward.

JUNE 28

The Sun’s semi-square with Uranus this morning can stir some restlessness that may seem too generalized to put to productive use. We may want to shake things up, make changes, and break the routine. However, we could also be tense if there are unexpected schedule changes or if we’re not in touch with what we need to change. It’s better to keep things simple. As the day advances, this comes most naturally, with the Sun’s trine to Saturn. With this transit, we readily draw upon self-discipline. We can enjoy a real sense of strength and pride in our ability to meet our responsibilities. This transit supports moderation and helps us feel more grounded and stable. We are especially aware of our limitations–and willing to accept them. Enjoyment of our duties or obligations can be in focus. This trine occurs in Water signs, and we can feel particularly empowered managing emotional matters in practical, helpful ways. Mercury’s semi-square to Venus does point to minor misunderstandings or indecision. It’s not easy to concentrate or connect with our hearts. There can be irritating disconnects as we either rationalize our feelings or emotionalize our observations. But with Venus and Chiron approaching a trine, exact early tomorrow, we’re open to learning from our experiences with one another.

JUNE 29

With Venus trine Chiron this morning, we may get an opportunity to heal our relationships through openness to learning from one another. It’s a vital time for building trust in relationships and seeing potential in one another–we more readily see the beauty in human imperfection. We also recognize the value of the people, relationships, and pleasures in our lives more clearly. Interacting with others in fresh ways–with more authenticity and sincerity–can benefit us now. As the day advances, Mercury forms a semi-square to Uranus and heads toward a trine to Saturn. We might rush to complete something, share an idea, or communicate, but things may end up half-done if we’re impatient. We are bored with routine, which can signify that we need some mental refreshment. While there can be minor erratic elements to later day, particularly in our communications, thought processes, and outlook, the Mercury-Saturn trine helps ground and center our thoughts and communications. We begin to see the value in simplifying and taking things step by step. Conversations may be spare but instructive. It’s a good time for systematic thinking and a step-by-step approach to tasks and problems. This transit supports work with details. We’re cautious with our expectations or remind ourselves to keep things moderate.

JUNE 30

Neptune stations and turns retrograde today will remain retrograde until December 6th. This station can cast a veil over our affairs, and it can be challenging to see things clearly this week. Still, the retrograde cycle itself is a period of increased receptiveness, even if we’re putting some of our dreams on hold. It can be a time of indecision or feeling in limbo, but it can also be a period of personal discovery. We may feel let down by a matter now with the shift happening. However, this can lead us along a new and improved path.

As the day advances, we head toward a Sun-Mercury conjunction. Sudden awareness or clarity spurs us on. What we say or write now has an impact, for better or worse! It’s an excellent time to fill in the details of recent ideas and turn recent discoveries into something valuable and workable. There can be an epiphany, illumination of a matter, or a clearing of the air. Still, we should watch for intellectualizing issues that require sensitivity.

JULY 1

The Sun-Mercury alignment occurs early today, and both bodies form semi-squares to Mars and sextiles to Jupiter. We can be tense, impatient, or brassy. Frustration could fuel our motivation to make a change, however. We can quickly come up with ideas or retorts, but we can be nervous and snappy. It’s not an ideal time for patience or listening skills. However, we are clearer in our thoughts and exchanges, and mind-expanding activities, exercises, and conversations can figure strongly. We’re alert and resourceful, seeking solutions to problems or the positive side of situations.

The Moon spends the day in friendly, straightforward Sagittarius. Its harmony with Venus and Chiron boosts our potential to cooperate, build trust, work through problems, and heal.

Moon Signs This Week:

When the Moon is in Virgo

We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.

The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.

When the Moon is in Libra

Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.

The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.

When the Moon is in Scorpio

 Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now.
