The NEW MOON occurs on Tuesday, February 1st, 2022, at 12:46 AM EST.
Early Tuesday, a New Moon occurs in the sign of Aquarius–the Capricorn New Moon cycle ends, and the Aquarius New Moon cycle begins. In the sign of Aquarius, friendship, brotherhood, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, humanitarian efforts, or joining a group will be a strong focus. New beginnings regarding any or all of these matters are possible now.
It’s a time to solve problems that require thinking “outside of the box” and look to the future with a brand new, positive, and hopeful vision. We brainstorm and socialize, focusing on extending a friendly hand, receiving support, and expressing platonic love for those around us. It’s a time to give our emotions and passions a “break” as we develop more objectivity and some detachment from past haunts.
We might learn how something (or someone) works, revitalize ourselves through experiences that are new or simply different, reach out to people in our social circle and community, and recognize the value of our friendships and social networks.
It’s a time to acknowledge that some level of detachment and distancing ourselves from our habits and attachment to the past will help us break away from destructive behaviors that are holding us back.
With this potent Aquarius energy, we have the chance to make progressive changes in our lives. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters.
This New Moon aligns with Saturn, suggesting a somber determination to start fresh, even with some reluctance involved. With its square to Uranus, some unexpected or rebellious elements are likely.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 12 degrees and 20 minutes of Aquarius, affecting people with personal planets and points at approximately 8 to 16 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
This second chart is of the same New Moon but with additional points, such as the four major asteroids, Chiron, and more.

This week: The Sun is in Aquarius; Mercury is in Capricorn; Venus is in Capricorn; Mars is in Capricorn.
The Sun is in Aquarius from January 19-February 18. During this cycle, we are motivated by our hunger for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. We become more aware of what is outdated in our lives, and strive to find new perspectives and new ways to do things. The class distinctions, structure, and order that Capricorn finds appealing now seem to be too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us.
We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe.
Mercury is in Capricorn from January 25-February 14. When Mercury is in Capricorn, our thinking is methodical and our focus is sober and practical. It is easier to concentrate on the task at hand under this influence. Our conversations may be quite realistic or focused on business/practical matters. Our thought patterns and communication styles become more logical, orderly, and organized.
We are more able to sort out what is relevant and essential. Realism enters the picture, our speech is no-nonsense, and precision becomes important to us. Our survival instincts are strong–we’re interested in what will benefit us in the long term.
We’re not interested in the fluff, preferring to get right to a point or the bottom line. Communication can be somewhat guarded or cautious, and similarly not very floral or expressive. We gravitate to concrete subjects and information that’s logical, useful, and well-organized. We may prefer a methodical approach to studying. Our fantasies may be well-considered and possible, with realistic overtones.
We need to be wary of becoming too rigid in our thinking. We may come across as cold or harsh. For some, there is a fine line between realism and pessimism. At times, we might lack humor, or we’re inclined toward sarcasm when joking. We can be quite stubborn with our ideas and methods.
We can use this period to make solid, realistic plans and get organized. It’s a favorable time to advise, teach, or guide. Generally, we’re more concerned than usual with our reputation or responsibilities. Our dependability can reap rewards. We love to plan ahead and map out our next steps. Changes of schedule can be most disconcerting during this cycle. Our reactions are sensible, cool, and level-headed while Mercury is in Capricorn.
Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021-March 6, 2022. [This is longer than usual due to the Venus retrograde, occurring entirely in the sign of Capricorn, from December 19, 2021-January 29, 2022.] Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions increases.
We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our “cool” in relationships. We’re steadfast and seek genuine, perhaps old-fashioned connections. It’s not a time for PDA, and we can be somewhat guarded and reserved with expressing our feelings or revealing our relationships.
The underdog who works hard can have their time in the sun now. We value slow and steady effort and long-term prospects. Reliability in others is most attractive.
This cycle favors getting along well with higher-ups, conservative business goals and ventures, long-term investments, and matters related to pension.
Mars is in Capricorn from January 24-March 6. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. Our energy is reliable and faithful. We are slow to anger, but can be quite cold if we are frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity.
Jupiter is in Pisces from December 28th, 2021, to May 10, 2022. Jupiter returned to Pisces on December 28th, 2021. This is part two–there will be another part to this 3-part act later in the year! Read more about the Jupiter in Pisces transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021, to March 6, 2022. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships are paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others’ expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence.
There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.
This week: Venus is no longer retrograde. It’s recovering from the retrograde cycle, however, and is in its post-retrograde shadow until March 1st. Slowly but surely, we’re finding that Venus-ruled endeavors, such as money, beauty, art, romance, and pleasure, are getting back to a normal pace.
On Thursday, the 3rd, we’re investing more energy and pride in harmonizing and connecting.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love ’em: that’s what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so – but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Venus parallel Mercury January 14 and January 22-23. A congenial time when we appreciate diplomacy and socialize more readily.
Venus parallel the Sun February 3. A strong desire for harmony and comfort fill us now. We may be moved to express our affections.
Venus parallel Saturn February 10. We may express our affection sparingly, but also responsibly and in practical ways. Relationships begun under this influence often feel burdensome over time, but they may last longer than most.
Venus conjunct Mars February 15-16. This is a passionate, warm, expressive, lively and sexy energy. We are now able to take the initiative to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. Our creativity and desire to make something beautiful is stimulated now. We are more able to combine warmth with energy. Social relations are impassioned, and perhaps demanding or extreme.
In some cases, this impulsive energy generates “love at first sight” scenarios or erotic interludes. Team work is more successful now. Some level of competition is present in our interactions, but it’s likely of a pleasurable and gently challenging kind. Impulsive purchases are possible.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, January 30th, from 11:44 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, Monday, January 31st, at 4:43 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, February 1st, from 6:01 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Saturn), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Wednesday, February 2nd, at 6:00 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Friday, February 4th, from 4:41 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aries at 9:57 AM EST.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the 1st, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waxing this week after the New Moon on the 1st, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, also with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity this week occurs from Wednesday, February 2nd, at approximately 6:05 AM, to Friday, February 4th, at approximately 4:35 AM EST, while the Moon is in Pisces. Note that Mercury stations and turns direct on the night of February 3rd.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun square Uranus. We can’t expect much of anything when the Sun squares Uranus, except the unexpected! Disrupted routines and plans are in order, which help to stimulate the adoption of new approaches. During this transit, we feel the need for action, but if we don’t know where we’re headed, we might take the wrong turn. Unexpected changes in plans or events can test our patience, and we might feel a bit out of control. However, they could stimulate us to try new approaches and they certainly act to cut boredom. This transit could offer us the drive to do something new, but avoid making hasty major decisions for the time being.
Mars sextile Jupiter. Decisive action comes naturally now. We possess willpower, verve, and energy that we can direct toward achieving our goals. Success in contracts, negotiations, and business deals comes easily. We want to branch out and take on more challenges. A good time for making new goals or to initiate new projects (all things equal). Optimism and enthusiasm; adventurous spirit. Positive attitudes create winning situations now. A spirit of friendly competition prevails, as well as the desire to take beneficial action.
Sun conjunct Saturn. This is a time when we are called upon to “get real”. We feel the constraints of time and are motivated by the desire to manifest tangible results. It’s “nose to the grindstone” time. We may feel overworked; alternatively, we welcome some discipline into our lives. Avoid launching new projects, particularly financial ones. Instead, work on a new plan for creating order in your life, or on an old project that requires a new commitment. Emotional energy is not enough to fuel us for the time being; thus we could feel sapped on a physical level. However, making new commitments to old goals, shouldering responsibilities, and making careful use of our resources could feed our need for structure and order in our lives.

JANUARY 30
The Sun forms a square to Uranus today, and changes we make now may feel out of character or abrupt. Disrupted routines and plans are likely, and while they can be unsettling at first, they can also stimulate the adoption of new approaches. Our strong desire for independence or to break the rules could impair our judgment. Even so, if we’re willing to learn from our mistakes, we might adopt a more careful approach to making necessary changes. We should watch for being irresponsible in our rebellions and guard against temperamental behavior and decision-making. Disruptions can pull up buried frustrations, which we should probably examine more closely. It can be a time to learn something new about ourselves. With the Sun semi-sextile Venus, we may feel that our quest for pleasure, affection, love, or comfort is at odds with what we think we should be doing, which can lead to mild tension or feelings of guilt, and perhaps some indecision. Seeking to fulfill both of these needs without doing so at the expense of the other makes sense.
The void Moon occurs from 11:44 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aquarius tomorrow, Monday, January 31st, at 4:43 AM EST.
JANUARY 31
The Moon continues its transit of Capricorn until it enters Aquarius at 4:43 AM EST. The Aquarius Moon is fair-minded. We tend to see all sides on a matter, and we can be more invested in our friendships, connections, and happiness goals. This is a good time to put in effort towards progressive causes and projects or bring new, unique, and exciting elements to our work. New techniques or options can emerge. However, what we begin now, we may not finish. With the New Moon occurring shortly into the day tomorrow, the Moon is Balsamic today. We’re symbolically in the dark as we clear the way for new beginnings. This is a time for review and reflection.
The void Moon occurs until the Moon enters Aquarius today at 4:43 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 1
The New Moon occurs early today–at 12:46 AM EST–in the sign of Aquarius. It motivates or prompts us to start fresh with a friendship, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, happiness pursuits, trying something new, or humanitarian efforts. We’re looking to the future with a new vision, and we’re doing more brainstorming and socializing. It’s an excellent time to see the value of developing more objectivity and a bit of detachment. This New Moon aligns with Saturn, suggesting a somber and resolute determination to start fresh, although perhaps some reticence or a strong sense that we’ll have more responsibilities with our new beginnings. With its square to Uranus, some unexpected or rebellious elements are likely. Consider that we might not yet have all the information we need to push ahead with Mercury retrograde until the night of the 3rd. However, it can be easier to distance ourselves from habits that may be holding us back.
The void Moon occurs from 6:01 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Saturn), until the Moon enters Pisces tomorrow, Wednesday, February 2nd, at 6:00 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 2
The Moon continues its transit of Aquarius until 6:00 AM EST, when it heads into Pisces. The Pisces Moon is gentle and kind, and its alignment with Jupiter magnifies and expands our compassionate feelings. We’re reaching for our joy, and we seek to grow, develop, and improve, primarily through embracing our emotions, empathy, spirituality, or downtime. The Moon also forms a sextile to Mars, heightening our feelings and stirring our passions. While the Pisces Moon can be elusive, this transit improves our ability to meet challenges.
The void Moon continues until the Moon enters Pisces today at 6:00 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 3
The Moon spends the day in Pisces, aligning with Neptune, and bringing on a need to unwind, go with the flow, or accept and forgive. Mercury stations and turns direct tonight after retrograde motion since January 14th. Over the coming weeks, recent problems with communications and decision-making should start to improve. The answers we’ve been waiting for can arrive. Plans or projects that have stalled might now resume. However, we can be flooded with energies that are hard to make sense of during today’s shift. Thus, we might avoid critical decision-making for the time being, if possible. It’s a better day to take in than to take action. It’s also a good idea not to rush conversations and observations.
FEBRUARY 4
Mars forms a sextile to Jupiter this morning, and we are enthusiastic about making changes and improvements. We are more courageous and energetic than usual, and it can benefit us greatly if we direct this energy into worthwhile projects or causes. A spirit of gentle competition prevails as we seek to branch out and take on more challenges. This influence inspires enterprise and confidence in taking action on our beliefs and convictions. We may be going to bat for the underdog. The Sun forms its yearly alignment to Saturn today, however, which suggests the need to rein things in. It’s a time to work on a revised plan for creating order in our lives or on an old project that requires a new commitment. Emotional energy is not enough to fuel us for the time being. As such, we could feel drained on a physical level. However, recommitting to goals, shouldering responsibilities, and carefully using our resources could feed our need for structure and order in our lives and get us back on track. The Moon continues its transit of Pisces until 9:57 AM EST, when it enters independent Aries.
The void Moon occurs from 4:41 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aries at 9:57 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 5
Today’s Moon in Aries is assertive, direct, and straightforward. We want to start fresh and move on, and we have no interest in dwelling on the past. However, this Moon can be impatient and hasty, especially early today with its square to Mars and, later, to Venus. Still, this afternoon, the Aries Moon harmonizes with Saturn and the Sun, and it’s easier to pace ourselves. We can be excited about our personal plans. While we want to be the first to discover new things with this Moon position, it would benefit us to share time with others. We can enjoy increased clarity derived from a feeling that what we want and need are in harmony.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Aquarius This is a time when your path of self-development and expression becomes more and more unusual – setting you apart from the crowd and from all that is traditional. The new, the futuristic, the high-tech are the hallmarks of your lifestyle as the cycle gets underway. Ideas and technologies that change the way people live – not just one person, but many – are a major new focus in your life. Involvement with ideals and idealistic groups enhances your sense of purpose and mission.
Mercury in Capricorn Figuring out how to organize projects and people is apt to become a topic of special interest – and a challenge – at a time like this. Opinions are not enough for you now: they must be backed by authority or evidence, and above all they must have practical worth and application. A period of intense study and thought.
Mars in Capricorn With this new cycle taking hold in your life now, taking charge and being in control become more important issues for you. You want to get things organized, and you have the initiative to do it. This is a time of ambition and responsibility, a time to keep your cool and pace yourself. Working hard is smart, but working smart is better.
Jupiter in Pisces Mysticism, sensitivity to the needs of others, and an awareness of karma (the link between the present and the past): these are your paths to spiritual growth now. Addressing these issues brings you gain and satisfaction at many levels. A tolerance for differences, an understanding of human frailties and shortcomings.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
