The FULL MOON occurs on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 6:48 PM EST.
On Monday evening, a Full Moon occurs when the Sun in Capricorn exactly opposes the Moon in Cancer. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of what we started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time – a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
The Cancer-Capricorn polarity deals with the balance between the private life, domesticity, the need for a home base, and nurturance (represented by Cancer) versus the public life, career, reputation, and accountability (represented by Capricorn).
Attachments and love are ruled by Cancer, while achievements and rewards/punishments are ruled by Capricorn. In some ways, this polarity deals with the balance between unconditional love and conditional love. The Cancer Moon encourages us to value our home base and our roots, while Capricorn persuades us to consider our sense of duty and responsibility along public lines.
While Cancer most enjoys attaching to the home and family, Capricorn urges us to attend to the responsibilities to the outside world. Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire on us. Ideally, a balance should be found between the two energies, and this is what the Full Moon invites us to do.
This Full Moon is about balancing our commitment to our career and families. Something has been building inside of us, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out. Over the next two weeks, we will discover what this means for us. For now, we can’t sit on our feelings. We need to express them.
Something is exposed or illuminated, prompting us to get in touch with those things in our personal lives that we may have been neglecting or putting off. With so much attention to our careers or responsibilities these days, a push for considering our emotional needs occurs now.
The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time–a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
This is a time to clear up past patterns that have been holding us back from personal fulfillment, particularly those that are home or family-centered or that revolve around our work-home balance and attitudes toward comfort and responsibility.
This Wolf Moon harmonizes with the True North Node and the Sun aligns with Pluto. Our revelations are intense and can feel larger-than-life, even fateful.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 27 degrees and 51 minutes of Cancer, opposite the Sun at 27 degrees and 51 minutes of Capricorn, affecting people with personal planets and points at approximately 24 to 30 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) and 0 to 2 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
The smaller chart above can be enlarged. It’s a chart drawn for the same Full Moon as the large chart, but with additional points for further information about this Full Moon in Cancer.

This week: The Sun is in Capricorn to the 19th, when the Sun moves into Aquarius; Mercury is in Aquarius; Venus is in Capricorn; Mars is in Sagittarius.
The Sun is in Capricorn from December 21, 2021-January 19, 2022. With the Sun in Capricorn, we are motivated by feelings of responsibility, ambition, and respect for law and order. Capricorn derives much satisfaction in completion and accomplishment. Standards, structures, and an appreciation for order are Capricorn themes.
Capricorn wants tangible results, knows what is feasible and what is not, and is most comfortable working within an established framework and known boundaries or limits. Working towards a long-term goal is most satisfying with this influence.
The Sun is in Aquarius from January 19-February 18. During this cycle, we are motivated by our hunger for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. We become more aware of what is outdated in our lives, and strive to find new perspectives and new ways to do things. The class distinctions, structure, and order that Capricorn finds appealing now seem to be too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us.
We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe.
Mercury is in Aquarius from January 2-25, and then later, from February 14-March 9. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, reasonable, objective, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.
Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021-March 6, 2022. [This is longer than usual due to the Venus retrograde, occurring entirely in the sign of Capricorn, from December 19, 2021-January 29, 2022.] Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions increases.
We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our “cool” in relationships. We’re steadfast and seek genuine, perhaps old-fashioned connections. It’s not a time for PDA, and we can be somewhat guarded and reserved with expressing our feelings or revealing our relationships.
The underdog who works hard can have their time in the sun now. We value slow and steady effort and long-term prospects. Reliability in others is most attractive.
This cycle favors getting along well with higher-ups, conservative business goals and ventures, long-term investments, and matters related to pension.
Mars is in Sagittarius from December 13, 2021, to January 24, 2022. With a Sagittarius Mars, our actions are motivated by our ideals. We are bothered by routine, quickly becoming restless if we feel confined. We have a love of adventure, and of conquest–this is the position of wanderlust. We start projects or challenges with gusto, although we may tend to abandon them rather quickly. This may be because we set our sights too high!
Jupiter is in Pisces from December 28th, 2021, to May 10, 2022. Jupiter returned to Pisces on December 28th, 2021. This is part two–there will be another part to this 3-part act later in the year! Read more about the Jupiter in Pisces transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021, to March 6, 2022. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships are paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others’ expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence.
There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.
This week: Venus is retrograde. Venus-ruled endeavors, such as money, beauty, art, romance, and pleasure, become a little heavier, more prone to reassessment, review, and perhaps delay or a period of limbo. This Venus retrograde cycle lasts until January 29th, and is a period in which we reevaluate or review our love life as well as the manner in which we receive, reveal, and express our affections. Thoughts turn to the past so that we can lay to rest unhealthy habits in these areas of life.
With Venus retrograde in Capricorn, we may question whether our goals mesh in our relationships. Read more about Venus retrograde in Capricorn from December 19, 2021, to January 29, 2022.
On Saturday, the 22nd, we’re reflecting on and analyzing our relationships, especially past ones or long-standing patterns.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love ’em: that’s what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so – but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Venus semi-square Jupiter January 10. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
Venus parallel Mercury January 14 and January 22-23. A congenial time when we appreciate diplomacy and socialize more readily.
Venus parallel the Sun February 3. A strong desire for harmony and comfort fill us now. We may be moved to express our affections.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, January 17th, from 6:49 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to the Sun), until the Moon enters Leo at 11:04 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, January 20th, from 3:16 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mars), until the Moon enters Virgo at 9:03 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, January 22nd, from 2:47 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Libra at 5:03 PM EST.
January 2022:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waxing this week only until the Full Moon on the 17th, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. After the Full Moon on the 17th, the Moon is waning, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, again with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, there are no windows of opportunity this week.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun conjunct Pluto. We are strong-willed and focused under this influence. The need to gain more control over our lives motivates us. We benefit now from strategy and keeping things to ourselves for the time being.
Mercury semi-square Mars. We are quick-witted and ready to argue under this influence. We may be working under stressful or hectic conditions, as we feel pressure to get things done quickly. We are inclined to be snappy and irritable, and we may too easily interrupt others rather than listen. Conflicts of interest are likely.
Mercury sextile Chiron. This is an excellent period for opening up communications with others, as we are more sensitive than usual and more willing to listen. Getting our point across is easier, as it’s not only about which words we choose to communicate, we intuitively express the meaning and intention behind the words. We can effectively use words to heal and comfort just now. We are also more open to new ways of looking at problems or at life in general.
Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus. A tendency to take risks, to feel restless, to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences.
Mercury semi-square Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It’s not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.
Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

JANUARY 16
The Sun aligns with Pluto this morning, and we seek more intensity from our lives and relationships. We’re persistent, and the need to gain more control over our lives can feel pressing. We are strong-willed, resourceful, and focused, and we may very well benefit by keeping things to ourselves and not rushing forward prematurely. This influence brings the desire for self-mastery to our attention. A minor crisis might alert us to an area of life that requires work, improvement, and transformation. We should guard against temperamental behavior and decision-making. Some paranoia or extremes of thinking could be behind this. The focus should be on recycling, updating, revising, and eliminating so that we can grow. A Mercury-Mars semi-square tonight introduces some nervous tension or impatience to our communications and actions. Frustration could fuel our motivation to make a change. We can quickly come up with ideas or retorts, but we can be a little nervous and snappy under this influence. If we allow ourselves to succumb to the pressure to get things done quickly, we may be working under stressful or hectic conditions. It’s not an ideal transit for patience or listening skills. The Moon spends the day in Cancer.
JANUARY 17
A Full Moon occurs at 6:48 PM EST in the sign of Cancer, and it’s a time of culmination and heightened awareness. We can become especially aware of any over-attachment we might have to outdated pleasures, connections, or things. The need for family, nurturing, safety, and comfort are strong. Something comes to light now, and if we get in touch with our emotions/hearts, we can better understand what needs to change or what needs to go. We seek nourishment from others, and we tend to more naturally support others in turn. We take pride in these efforts today, and our needs and cravings seem to be in harmony. The Moon heads into the sign of Leo at 11:04 PM EST, encouraging our theatrical, playful, and competitive sides.
The void Moon occurs from 6:49 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to the Sun), until the Moon enters Leo at 11:04 PM EST.
JANUARY 18
Mercury’s sextile to Chiron this morning can help open up healthy dialogues. We are approaching problems holistically, and problem-solving skills are high. However, a Mars-Uranus minor challenging aspect can leave us on edge. We may be itching for a change but not entirely sure where to start. Of course, this can get us into a bit of trouble if we’re not mindful. Uranus stations and turns direct today after five months of retrograde motion, and Uranus energy hangs heavy in the air this week, with related themes dominating. As the planet gains speed in the next few weeks, our urge to express our unique self, take some chances or risks, rebel, listen to our instincts, and stir up change are reawakened or externalized.
JANUARY 19
The Moon transits Leo all day, and we’re expressive and ready to share. This is a good time for motivation levels regarding work or projects and personal interests. Opportunities to pursue absorbing topics and projects of interest emerge. We can find more joy and meaning in our work or obligations. The Sun forms a trine to the True North Node of the Moon, encouraging us to aspire to our goals, rise to a challenge, and grow and improve. We’re progressing emotionally, and cooperation can bring rewards today. The Sun heads into the sign of Aquarius tonight for a stay until February 18th. During this cycle, we are motivated by our need for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. Our attention turns to what’s outdated in our lives, and we strive to find new perspectives and methods. The structure and order that Capricorn found appealing now seem too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us. We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe in the month ahead. However, we can be unreliable, unpredictable, or too rebellious for our own good when the Sun is under strain.
JANUARY 20
The Moon continues its transit of Leo until 9:03 AM EST, after which it moves through Virgo. The Virgo Moon is more concerned with precision and details, and with this influence, we gravitate to practical activities and helping others. We might be a little more reserved or self-contained than usual with a Virgo Moon, and we can be especially sensitive to criticism. The Moon opposes Jupiter in Pisces this evening, however, and we could be tempted to go overboard to combat boredom. We’re heading toward a Mercury-Neptune semi-square, exact very early tomorrow, and there can be cloudy thinking or a tendency to daydream. We may not express ourselves clearly, or others are not reading our messages well–likely, it’s a combination of the two!
The void Moon occurs from 3:16 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mars), until the Moon enters Virgo at 9:03 AM EST.
JANUARY 21
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Virgo, harmonizing with Uranus and Venus this morning. This Moon transit is particular, intelligent, and helpful–we see the details more than the overview. Its aspects encourage cooperation and inventiveness. We can feel pleasantly motivated to take care of business, get organized, or attend to important details. With Mercury and Jupiter forming a semi-sextile, there can be some inability to settle on a particular idea, opinion, or project. However, we’re thinking positively, and we bounce back quickly from disappointment with this transit.
JANUARY 22
The Moon continues its transit of Virgo until 5:03 PM EST, encouraging a closer look at the small jobs and details of our lives. While the Moon’s trine to Pluto helps us focus, its square to Mars in Sagittarius can be distracting. Impatience isn’t easy to control. The Moon moves through Libra from 5:03 PM forward, motivating us to harmonize. Cooperation comes more easily with the Moon’s trines to the Sun and Mercury. The Sun and Mercury are heading into alignment, exact tomorrow morning, and we can be doing a lot of thinking or intellectualizing now.
The void Moon occurs from 2:47 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Libra at 5:03 PM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
When the Moon is in Leo
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Capricorn You see what’s wrong and you know what to do now: the time has come to make it real, and it’s a lot bigger than any one person. This means cooperation and organization, authority and discipline, responsibility – and all these things are what it takes to get you where you know you must go. But take care! If your vision is only for yourself, what you create cannot last: it must be for some greater good. Ambition, practicality, and achievement are admirable, but they are means to an end – not ends in themselves.
Sun in Aquarius This is a time when your path of self-development and expression becomes more and more unusual – setting you apart from the crowd and from all that is traditional. The new, the futuristic, the high-tech are the hallmarks of your lifestyle as the cycle gets underway. Ideas and technologies that change the way people live – not just one person, but many – are a major new focus in your life. Involvement with ideals and idealistic groups enhances your sense of purpose and mission.
Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn’t cut it anymore: it’s the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.
Mars in Sagittarius Ideology is a keynote of the new phase you have begun – the power of ideas and the power they wield over people. Religious, cultural, or philosophical controversies and crusades have a way of stirring your blood. Travel and adventure are compelling temptations as you dare to test your mettle and stretch your horizons.
Jupiter in Pisces Mysticism, sensitivity to the needs of others, and an awareness of karma (the link between the present and the past): these are your paths to spiritual growth now. Addressing these issues brings you gain and satisfaction at many levels. A tolerance for differences, an understanding of human frailties and shortcomings.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
