The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Friday, March 5th, 2021, at 8:30 PM EST.
Friday evening, the Last Quarter Moon is exact when the Sun in Pisces forms a square with the Moon in Sagittarius.
The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. We should consider the revelations we had last, what they mean to us, and what to do next.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 15 degrees and 42 minutes of Sagittarius (square the Sun at 15 degrees and 42 minutes Pisces), affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 14 to 18 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Pisces; Mercury is in Aquarius; Venus is in Pisces; Mars is in Taurus until March 3rd, when it enters Gemini.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18 to March 20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
Mercury is in Aquarius from January 8 to March 15. [This is an extended stay due to a retrograde cycle that occurred from January 30-February 20.] When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.
Venus is in Pisces from February 25 to March 21. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach nevertheless, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be victimized or deluded, as well as evasiveness.
Mars is in Taurus from January 6 to March 3. We are determined, stubborn, and resolute during this cycle. Mars in Taurus can be passive, and is at its strongest when resisting or defending something! In stark contrast to the impulsive Mars in Aries cycle, we tend to pursue our goals by plodding along patiently. Our goal is longevity and long-term satisfaction.
Mars is in Gemini from March 3 to April 23. In Gemini, Mars is considerably more versatile and flexible–and considerably less determined and focused! Our interests become more diversified, possibly to the point of going off on so many tangents that we are scattered and ineffective. It’s an excellent time for strategizing and devising useful tactics to achieve our desires and goals. We’re resourceful and clever, and we know how to use words effectively.
Jupiter is in Aquarius from December 19th, 2020, to May 13, 2021, and then from July 28 to December 28, 2021. Read more about the Jupiter in Aquarius transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Pisces from February 25 to March 21. Like Aquarius, Pisces love is universal. However, Pisces draws no bounds in love. With Venus in Pisces, we have compassion (and perhaps attraction) for those who are left out, overlooked, or victimized. We are self-sacrificing, and we have a hard time setting up borders. The walls go down, we have a hard time saying no (especially if our compassion is engaged), but we are also prone to avoiding all that makes us feel uncomfortable.
Wishful thinking is one expression of Venus in Pisces. We can too easily believe what we want to believe. People can be hard to pin down, and love is hard to define under this influence. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be deluded, as well as evasiveness.
This week: On Tuesday and Wednesday, we’re willing to experiment and try new things in our relationships, which can freshen things up. We’re especially open to making changes or venturing into new territory with our feelings, tastes, and pleasures. It’s not an ideal time for making commitments, but it’s a good time to experiment and explore.
On Friday and Saturday, fears and insecurities are closer to the surface, which can be disruptive in our relationships, but with self-awareness, can be revealing. We can be suspicious or fearful of betrayal.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus contra-parallel Uranus February 22-23. Questions of freedom, change, specialness, and experimentation are raised in our relationships.
Venus sextile Uranus March 2-3. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.
Venus semi-square Pluto March 5-6. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus conjunct Neptune March 13. New and fresh beginnings on romantic levels characterize this transit. Heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion.
Venus parallel Neptune March 13-14.
Venus semi-square Uranus March 15. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, February 28th, from 10:58 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mars), until the Moon enters Libra at 2:17 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, March 2nd, from 9:09 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 3:39 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, March 4th, from 11:10 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 5:44 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, March 6th, from 4:45 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 9:21 PM EST.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun semi-square Pluto. A tendency to want to control our lives through some form of manipulation is strong during this influence. Meeting with obstacles in our paths, however, can force us into the position of using all of our resources to fight back, and we can discover resources we never knew we had in the process.
Venus sextile Uranus. This is a favorable influence for social meetings and events, and for situations that call for treating others with equality and respect. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements as well as financial undertakings. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit. A good time for financial undertakings involving electronics, technology, the internet, metaphysics, and the arts, as well as group activities. A taste for the offbeat is in order.
Mercury conjunct Jupiter. We can visualize in broader terms and see the “big picture” now. Travel is favored, all things equal. We are optimistic, which can help us attract positive circumstances. This is a good time to submit ideas, applications, and so forth, all things equal. This is a time of thinking on a grand scale and long-range planning. Details and mundane affairs do not interest us as much as the big picture does. We are prone to exaggerating the facts due to enthusiasm. Expressing ourselves verbally comes easily, and public relations and negotiations run especially smoothly. This is a time for making long-range plans, seeing the big picture, and thinking about what is really important to us in the long run.
Venus semi-square Pluto. This influence can point to some underlying tensions in social interactions (looking for an ulterior motive or an agenda, suspiciousness) and relationships (possible jealousies). Passions run high and hot, but there’s a hidden agenda. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness run so close to the surface that others can almost feel the heat, and they are in direct proportion to our fear of losing something or someone dear to us.

FEBRUARY 28
The Moon continues its transit of practical Virgo until 2:17 PM EST, harmonizing with Pluto and Mars. We have enough respect for the tried-and-true that we won’t pass something over just because it’s already been done. Nevertheless, we’re exploring all our options now. We can be very determined and focused today, and we have an eye for detail. From 2:17 PM forward, the Libra Moon inclines us to seek the other side to a story. We’re looking at things from a different perspective and giving our relationships their due attention. The Sun and Pluto are heading toward a minor challenging aspect, and later today, we can wrestle with some suspicion or cynicism.
The void Moon occurs from 10:58 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Mars), until the Moon enters Libra at 2:17 PM EST.
MARCH 1
This morning, the Sun forms a semi-square to Pluto, and we can have some struggle letting go. We might crave a sense of control over events, relationships, and circumstances, becoming frustrated at any sign that we don’t have it. Tensions can surface if we’ve been holding onto worries and concerns. The more we bottle up, the more pressure builds. The Moon spends the day in balanced, gracious Libra. We’re looking for ways to even things out and smooth things over. We’re cooperative and fair-minded, especially with the Moon in harmony with Mercury, the North Node, and Jupiter.
MARCH 2
The Moon continues its transit of peace-seeking Libra until 3:39 PM EST, after which the Moon moves through the determined, perceptive sign of Scorpio. We’re interested in discovering deeper truths and motives. A Mercury-Node trine suggests that we may be connecting with information or people that/who encourage us to grow, improve, or move forward.
The void Moon occurs from 9:09 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 3:39 PM EST.
MARCH 3
The Moon spends the day in deep, perceptive Scorpio. However, Venus forms a sextile to Uranus today, lightening our load–and mood. This aspect gently frees us from over-attachment or concern, encouraging us to let go so we can move on. It’s a liberating influence, as we open ourselves up to new ideas, ways of relating, and different people or experiences. Venus-Uranus enables more comfortable and successful social interactions. We may be experimenting and improvising with our pleasures or approaches. It’s also a fine time for intuition and a good sense of future trends in business. Tonight, Mars enters Gemini for a stay until April 23rd. In Gemini, Mars is versatile and flexible but not especially determined or focused. We should watch for becoming so scattered that we’re ineffective. However, it’s an excellent period for diversifying our interests and understanding the power of our communications.
MARCH 4
With Venus and Saturn forming a semi-sextile this morning, we can feel somewhat reserved, not quite able to let our hair down without remembering our responsibilities. However, we’re capable of outstanding balance and understanding. Mercury aligns with Jupiter tonight, and verbal expression flows smoothly, presenting an excellent time to come to agreements and resolutions. We see the big picture and consider what’s meaningful to us. We’re inclined to talk and think about our dreams, plans, friends, and connections, opening up and enjoying the process. We should watch for overstating and promising more than we can do, but it remains a good time to enjoy good humor and positive vibes. We’ve seen this aspect two other times, first in January and then again while Mercury was retrograde in February. While there may have been false starts, we’re now fully on board. The Moon continues its transit of passionate Scorpio until 5:44 PM EST when it enters spirited Sagittarius.
The void Moon occurs from 11:10 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 5:44 PM EST.
MARCH 5
The Moon spends the day in the adventurous, truth-seeking sign of Sagittarius. With the Moon conjunct the South Node of the Moon and the Sun square it, we’re inclined to fall back on old habits and comforts, even if they’re not supportive of our growth. Attachments to the past are a strong pull. We might not easily find ourselves in agreement with the people around us today. The Last Quarter Moon occurs this evening when the Sagittarius Moon forms a square with the Sun in Pisces. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we now feel the need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t. This is not the best time to start a significant project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. However, it’s stable for taking a mature look at a situation, and it’s a good time for finishing up details and processing recent revelations.
MARCH 6
With a Venus-Pluto semi-square this morning, we may be tempted to manipulate or control others and situations, which can lead to unnecessary troubles. Jealousies or possessiveness can emerge. We could be troubled by matters concerned with our affections. The Moon continues its transit of Sagittarius for most of today, until 9:21 PM EST. The Moon’s square to Neptune this morning can stir wistfulness or emotional confusion, and we tend to take a detour from the middle road. Otherwise, the Sagittarius Moon encourages a spirited approach to your day. The Moon moves into industrious Capricorn from 9:21 PM forward, and we begin to connect with our ambitions or goals.
The void Moon occurs from 4:45 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 9:21 PM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn’t cut it anymore: it’s the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.
Mars in Taurus Making the most of what you’ve got, striving for security and stability: that’s the impulse that stirs in you as a new cycle begins in your life. New frontiers? That’s kid’s stuff for you now! What you want is to build something that will last: a pyramid, a Great Wall – you know, that sort of thing. Steady, patient, solid: that’s your style now.
Mars in Gemini Learning, communicating, the exchange of ideas: these are the experiences you crave as a means to make your mark now, as a new phase begins in your life. You’re a person with something to say, and you realize that others have information that is essential to your goals. A time of much mental energy and initiative … perhaps with an element of conflict tossed in for good measure.
Jupiter in Aquarius Innovation, reform, and idealism are your paths to growth and gain now. New, futuristic ideas are part of this, but it’s more than that: putting them into practice is essential because this is much more than empty idealism. A break from the past, a willingness to flaunt convention.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
