The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022, at 5:32 PM EST.
The Last Quarter Moon is exact when the Sun in Pisces forms a square with the Moon in Sagittarius on Wednesday afternoon.
The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. We should consider the revelations we had last, what they mean to us, and what to do next.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 5 degrees and 17 minutes of Sagittarius square the Sun at 5 degrees and 17 minutes of Pisces, affecting people with personal planets and points at approximately 3 to 7 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Pisces; Mercury is in Aquarius; Venus is in Capricorn; Mars is in Capricorn.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side can include self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
While we may not always verbalize our feelings and impressions during this cycle, they’re strong and motivating. We prefer to believe and trust, giving things/people the benefit of the doubt until they prove us wrong. We might often tune out problems or conflicts rather than tackle them head on, hoping they will iron themselves out. Prosperity flows when we’re connecting with our heart, being kind, and helping others. The need to withdraw or retreat to restore our energy is strong from time to time.
Mercury is in Aquarius from February 14-March 9. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, reasonable, objective, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.
We’re reasonable, finding it easier to separate intellect and emotion when assessing a situation. Although progressive-minded and receptive to new studies and information, we are not quick to sway from our ideas and beliefs. During this cycle, we take more interest in thinking that’s daring or original. As we envision a better future, we can come up with truly interesting ideas and concepts.
Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021-March 6, 2022. [This is longer than usual due to the Venus retrograde, occurring entirely in the sign of Capricorn, from December 19, 2021-January 29, 2022.] Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions increases.
We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our “cool” in relationships. We’re steadfast and seek genuine, perhaps old-fashioned connections. It’s not a time for PDA, and we can be somewhat guarded and reserved with expressing our feelings or revealing our relationships.
The underdog who works hard can have their time in the sun now. We value slow and steady effort and long-term prospects. Reliability in others is most attractive.
This cycle favors getting along well with higher-ups, conservative business goals and ventures, long-term investments, and matters related to pension.
Mars is in Capricorn from January 24-March 6. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. Our energy is reliable and faithful. We are slow to anger, but can be quite cold if we are frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity.
Jupiter is in Pisces from December 28th, 2021, to May 10, 2022. Jupiter returned to Pisces on December 28th, 2021. This is part two–there will be another part to this 3-part act later in the year! Read more about the Jupiter in Pisces transit.
Saturn transits Aquarius from March 21 to July 1, 2020, and from December 17th, 2020, until March 7, 2023. Read about Saturn’s transit of Aquarius.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Capricorn from November 5, 2021, to March 6, 2022. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships are paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others’ expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence.
There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.
This week: Venus is in its post-retrograde shadow until March 1st. Slowly but surely, we’re finding that Venus-ruled endeavors, such as money, beauty, art, romance, and pleasure, are returning to a normal pace.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we treat lovers with more tenderness or we see them in a more sensitive, obliging light. We’re particularly open to romance, and we can be quite sensitive to others’ needs and backstories. We see the very best in people now, and this eases our interactions, taking the pressure off in personal relationships.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love ’em: that’s what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so – but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Venus sextile Neptune February 23-24. Unusual attractions that add imagination, inspiration, and emotional “color” to our lives may occur now. We are attuned to the subtleties of human interaction, and we are more inclined to naturally cooperate with others. An imaginative, romantic time.
Venus trine North Node February 28. We are especially concerned with harmonizing and tend to be agreeable and cooperative. We could feel lucky in love, and we could meet someone who is good for us. Fortunate connections might be made now.
Venus parallel Mercury March 1. A congenial time when we appreciate diplomacy and socialize more readily.
Venus semi-square the Sun March 1. Irritations that seem to stem from others could be the reflection of our own inner uneasiness. Do your best to control yearnings for more and search for a creative solution for your inner dissatisfaction.
Venus conjunct Pluto March 2-3. An extraordinarily passionate time for relationships. We are focused and confident. There is a tendency to want–and to demand–a lot from a partnership or friendship. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships begun under this influence are intense and passionate, deep and far from superficial, and can be quite possessive as well.
Venus conjunct Mars March 5-6. This is a passionate, warm, expressive, lively and sexy energy. We are now able to take the initiative to achieve harmony and sexual fulfillment. This influence brings satisfaction to the feelings. Our creativity and desire to make something beautiful is stimulated now. We are more able to combine warmth with energy. Social relations are impassioned, and perhaps demanding or extreme.
In some cases, this impulsive energy generates “love at first sight” scenarios or erotic interludes. Team work is more successful now. Some level of competition is present in our interactions, but it’s likely of a pleasurable and gently challenging kind. Impulsive purchases are possible.
Venus semi-square Jupiter March 5-6. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
Venus semi-square Neptune March 14. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus semi-sextile Mercury March 14. It may be all too easy to say things we don’t mean/feel. There can be a temporary disconnect between the heart and mind.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, February 21st, from 12:01 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 4:19 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, February 23rd, from 4:24 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 8:29 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, February 24th, from 10:24 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Friday, February 25th, at 11:27 AM EST.
February 2022:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waning this week, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Tuesday, February 22nd, at approximately 1:55 PM EST, until Wednesday, February 23rd, at approximately 4:20 AM EST, while the Moon is in Scorpio.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury semi-square Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It’s not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.
Mars sextile Neptune. Inspiration might be found now, and our intuition is strong. This influence favors dancing, swimming, photography, arts, entertainment. There can be letting go of anger, or a softening of the disposition now.
Jupiter semi-square Pluto. We may take on too many interests, activities, or desires under this influence. Exaggerating our importance or power, either to ourselves or others, should be avoided.
Mercury sextile Chiron. This is an excellent period for opening up communications with others, as we are more sensitive than usual and more willing to listen. Getting our point across is easier, as it’s not only about which words we choose to communicate, we intuitively express the meaning and intention behind the words. We can effectively use words to heal and comfort just now. We are also more open to new ways of looking at problems or at life in general.
Venus sextile Neptune. We are more imaginative and attuned to the world of beauty and romance today. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level is possible now.
Mercury square Uranus. Our senses are stimulated, and we could have sudden flashes of insight or fresh new ideas. However, our ideas are not always received well by others and we can be scatter-brained. It’s a challenge to deal with routine matters or monotonous tasks under this influence. Tasks may be left undone or interrupted. This is not a good time to be understood, so we may want to hold off presenting our ideas for the time being. New information can surface now that upsets the status quo, but can also act to stimulate our minds into new ways of thinking.
Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

FEBRUARY 20
The Moon spends another day in the sign of conciliatory, gracious Libra, and we are focused on creating balance and harmony. The Moon’s squares to Venus and Mars this morning can nonetheless point to interpersonal and/or inner conflicts. A need for personal space may clash with relationship goals, and impatience is a possible downfall. Otherwise, this Moon transit helps us see the other side to a story or situation.
FEBRUARY 21
With Mercury in minor challenging aspect to Neptune today, we may struggle with our perceptions, which can be clouded by wishful thinking. We tend to favor daydreams or creative thinking more than dealing with facts and figures. It’s not an ideal time to formalize agreements as we may not be paying close attention to details. We may not express ourselves clearly and/or others are not reading our messages well. The Moon continues its transit of Libra until 4:20 AM EST, when it enters Scorpio. The Scorpio Moon is probing, intense, and intelligent. We see more layers to a situation, and we’re looking for more meaning and challenge in our lives.
The void Moon occurs from 12:01 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 4:19 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 22
The Moon spends the day in Scorpio, and we’re braver about facing emotional issues head-on. We’re more observant, strategic, passionate, and intense, and we gravitate to activities that engage our emotions. With Neptune sextile Vesta today, we’re willing to put in the effort to realize our dreams or wishes. There is good energy for devoting ourselves to a cause or pet project. A Mars-Pluto parallel aspect also comes into play, and we tend to find a focus and throw ourselves into it. We can also want to control situations, and we might lose some objectivity in the process.
FEBRUARY 23
The Moon continues its transit of Scorpio until 8:29 AM EST, when it moves into Sagittarius. The Sagittarius Moon is curious, adventurous, and spirited, encouraging us to explore, seek, and discover. Mars forms a sextile to Neptune, and we actively seek inspiration. Our intuitive guidance can be put to practical use, especially if it helps increase our sense of security. There can be the letting go of anger or a softening of the disposition now. We prefer to cooperate or go our own way than compete. We are also ready to act on our compassion, communicating our intentions through our actions and gestures, and our intuition for making the right moves is strong. We might open up to unusual or alternative healing methods or the use of compassion and forgiveness for healing purposes. Creative arts can thrive.
While this energy is go-with-the-flow, Jupiter and Pluto form a semi-square, introducing tension. Something can subtly challenge our belief system, kickstarting a need for an attitude change. Or, we might have to face narrow-mindedness in others (or in ourselves). Attempting to force our beliefs on others will only lead to frustration. We might struggle between the desire to learn through experience and the need to follow the rules or our ambitions to succeed in the material world.
The Last Quarter Moon also occurs today, and we crave action or movement in our pursuits. It’s not the best time to start a significant project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. However, it’s solid energy for taking a mature look at a situation, and it’s a good time for finishing up details and processing recent revelations. Further, we’re approaching a Mercury-Chiron sextile that’s strong for opening up healthy dialogues. We approach problems holistically, and problem-solving skills are high. This transit brings subtle but enhancing energy for communications.
The void Moon occurs from 4:24 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 8:29 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 24
Mars formed a sextile to Neptune yesterday, and Venus does the same today, encouraging us to open up and embrace loving, non-possessive feelings. We’re finding the best in people and our relationships or pleasures. We approach one another more gently and sensitively than usual with this transit. We are inclined to see our relationships’ spiritual dimensions and treat others with increased compassion. This aspect first formed in late November and then recurred in January while Venus was retrograde, and there can be more to an ongoing story. As gentle as this transit is, a Mercury-Uranus square later today can add abruptness and tension to our thinking patterns and conversations. Our senses are hyper-stimulated. There can be sudden flashes of insight or fresh new ideas, but they may not come together well just yet. We may be impatient with routine matters or monotonous tasks. Disorganization or bluntness with our communications is likely. Information can surface now that upsets the status quo. Even so, this transit can also stimulate our minds, encouraging new ways of thinking.
The void Moon occurs from 10:24 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Capricorn tomorrow, Friday, February 25th, at 11:27 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 25
The Moon continues its transit of bold, spirited Sagittarius until 11:27 AM EST, when it enters Capricorn. The Capricorn Moon is responsible, astute, and security-oriented, and since Capricorn is a cardinal sign, it’s also action-oriented. This Moon grounds us on the one hand and stimulates our ambitions on the other. With a Mars-Vesta alignment, we have a stronger ability to direct our energies into meaningful activities. We’re self-contained, not readily seeking help. We can feel especially dedicated and focused on a special pursuit today.
The void Moon continues until the Moon enters Capricorn today at 11:27 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 26
The Moon spends the day in Capricorn, and it harmonizes with Uranus and Jupiter, pointing to a strong intuition and a good feeling of progress. While we respect tried-and-true methods, we leave some opening for the new and improved. The Capricorn Moon is responsible, alert, and practical. Mercury and Jupiter form a semi-sextile, suggesting some inability to settle on a particular idea, opinion, or project. However, we’re thinking positively, and we bounce back quickly from disappointment.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn’t cut it anymore: it’s the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.
Mars in Capricorn With this new cycle taking hold in your life now, taking charge and being in control become more important issues for you. You want to get things organized, and you have the initiative to do it. This is a time of ambition and responsibility, a time to keep your cool and pace yourself. Working hard is smart, but working smart is better.
Jupiter in Pisces Mysticism, sensitivity to the needs of others, and an awareness of karma (the link between the present and the past): these are your paths to spiritual growth now. Addressing these issues brings you gain and satisfaction at many levels. A tolerance for differences, an understanding of human frailties and shortcomings.
Saturn in Aquarius Ideals are in for a period of testing, as a new phase begins in your life. What are principles worth, unless they are put into practice? That’s an important question for you now. This could mean you may be disappointed by causes you believe in – but if you abandon your principles, you lose.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone, and everyone in their place…
