Daily Trends
The FULL MOON/LUNAR ECLIPSE occurs on Friday, May 5th, 2023, at 1:34 PM EDT.
A Full Moon occurs when the Sun in Taurus forms an opposition to the Moon in Scorpio on Friday afternoon. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time – a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
The Taurus-Scorpio polarity deals with the balance between all that is mine (Taurus) and all that is yours (Scorpio). It also emphasizes the concept of form (Taurus) versus transformation (Scorpio). While Taurus deals with matter, personal values, material goods, possessions, and security, Scorpio rules the destruction of form, shared possessions, change, and transformation. The Sun in Taurus encourages happiness with the simple, tangible things in life, while the Scorpio Moon draws our attention to complexities, intangibles, and mysteries.
Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire on us. Ideally, a balance should be found between the two energies, and this is what the Full Moon invites us to do. This Full Moon is about emotional declarations. Something has been building inside of us, likely of an intimate nature, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out.
Over the coming months, we will discover what this declaration means for us. For now, we can’t sit on our feelings — we need to express them. The Full Moon illuminates this conflict between collecting and sharing.
With the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives. However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as emotions burst forth into our consciousness. It’s time to express ourselves and to let things out of our systems. Of course, we might want to exercise some care while doing so, knowing that what is coming out of us is new and not particularly rational as yet.
Full Moons are about exposing or illuminating issues that are already there, but that have not yet been dealt with. Where does the Full Moon fall by house in your natal chart? Read more here.
Because this Full Moon is a Lunar Eclipse and part of a set of eclipses falling along the Taurus-Scorpio axis (from November 2021 to October 2023), it holds significant weight and is one of several cosmic pushes toward understanding and improving our attachments, financial state, and intimate life. Read more about eclipses. See also Eclipse Dates: Tables.
Our feelings count, and we’ll see and feel their power now, paving the road for new directions. However, this can be an impulsive and misguided time for acting. It’s better to observe, take in, and process before jumping into action.
This is the sixth of seven eclipses in a Taurus-Scorpio set.
What follows is another chart wheel of this eclipse with additional points:
This phase of the Moon occurs at 14 degrees and 38 minutes of Scorpio opposite the Sun at the same degree of Taurus, and affecting people with personal planets and points at 10 to 25 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Taurus; Mercury is in Taurus; Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Cancer.
The Sun is in Taurus from April 20-May 21. In Taurus, the Sun is methodical, sensual, and receptive. The Sun in Taurus is most active when it is defending or resisting! As the Sun moves through Taurus when plants take root, our determination and security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar and values longevity. The shadow side of Taurus is possessiveness and bullheadedness.
The Sun in Taurus is the connoisseur and sensualist. It’s patient, stubborn, earthy, stable, and rooted. The Sun-in-Taurus cycle is a good one for maintaining or building, as well as enjoying and appreciating what’s already in place. While the Taurus Sun is slow to warm up, it’s stable and persevering once it does. We value what’s long-term, strong, and lasting during this phase.
Mercury is in Taurus from April 3-June 11. [This transit is longer than usual due to Mercury’s retrograde in Taurus from April 21 to May 14.] When Mercury is in Taurus, our thinking is down to earth, solid, and grounded. Common sense reigns over more fanciful thinking. We communicate more deliberately under this influence, and our minds are oriented to the world of the five senses. We prefer the tried and true rather than new ways of thinking.
Attention to one thing at a time can simplify our lives, but we may be in danger of narrow, overly conservative, or rigid thinking. It’s a time of practical intelligence and comfortably-paced decisions and thought processes. We’re capable of (and content with) rote, routine, deliberate, or monotonous work and methods.
Venus is in Gemini from April 11-May 7. With Venus in Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the motto now. We are friendly, communicative, charming, and interested.
While it’s a time when we can be animated and fun, we may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions often begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level while Venus is in Gemini. We’re most attracted to mentally interesting people. Sometimes, our curiosity leads us into relationships that we might not form otherwise. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness or disinterest in profundity.
Venus in Gemini is flirtatious, captivating, and adaptable. We ask questions and want to keep things light and lively. During this transit, we do best when we’re mentally engaged and our desire for variety is addressed. Social stimulation is appealing. Good fortune with transportation and communication can figure strongly.
Mars is in Cancer from March 25-May 20. We pursue our interests ardently, but we avoid a direct approach to going after we want while Mars transits Cancer. As well, our goals and plans are subject to mood swings and vacillations. We are defensive rather than overtly aggressive. Much of what we do depends on our current mood of the moment.
We’re also very intuitive and can be moved to take action to bring peace or comfort and safety to our lives during this period. We go to bat for our loved ones. In fact, we’re fiercely protective. It’s a powerful period for putting ego matters aside so that we can push our plans forward. Inner satisfaction and love are generally more important to us than outer achievements at this time. Personal and domestic goals are our priority during this phase.
Jupiter is in Aries.
Jupiter was in Aries from May 10 to October 28, 2022 before it retreated into Pisces. This was part one of two, with the second and final part in progress, occurring from December 20, 2022, to May 16, 2023. Read more about Jupiter’s transit of Aries.
Saturn transits Pisces from March 7th, 2023 until May 24th, 2025, and Sep 1st, 2025, to Feb 13th, 2026. Read about Saturn’s transit of Pisces.
Uranus is in Taurus.
Uranus transits Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and then from March 6th, 2019, until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. Above all, we’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle.
There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. In general, we’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money, are likely. Our income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.

Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from April 11-May 7. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Fickleness with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates. Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: From Tuesday to Thursday, we can be revisiting old conversations and while we may want to make sense of things, we’re not seeing our relationships very clearly. We’re not as diplomatic as we aim to be, either. We should be on alert for tendencies to project our fantasies, whether these are positive or negative, onto others or relationships. We may not be seeing things clearly when our hearts are involved. It’s hard to know what or who to believe with wishful thinking distorting our perceptions temporarily. Watch for deception and self-deception now.
However, also on Thursday, we’re ready to give one another the benefit of the doubt, and we’re opening up our hearts. We’re feeling particularly generous and hopeful.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes natural now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto April 24. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus semi-square Mercury May 2-3. Communications between lovers are superficial and unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. Superficiality in romantic expression may exist now.
Venus square Neptune May 3-4. Relationship ups and downs characterize this transit–a time when romantic mirages are more than likely. We see what we hope to see, rather than what really is. The “highs” of a relationship begun under this energy may be thrilling, but the accompanying “lows” are bound to set in, and they can be extremely draining. Be careful not to set yourself up for disappointment.
Venus sextile Jupiter May 4. This aspect generates a happy, friendly, and optimistic attitude. People are a little more outgoing and sociable. Favors travel, education, and culture. Romantic opportunities. Harmony and good will.
Venus quincunx Pluto May 7. This is a time of adjustments and re-assessments in our close personal relationships and/or with regards to our social lives. Issues of power and control can arise. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects.
The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart to determine the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass.
The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, May 1st, from 7:52 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Neptune), until the Moon enters Libra the next day, Tuesday, May 2nd, at 2:09 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, May 4th, from 5:17 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 10:32 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, May 6th, from 10:38 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Neptune), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 4:04 PM EDT.
May 2023:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
It’s important to note that there are more factors to consider in addition to the windows listed below. The following windows are starting points. For example, you generally don’t want to elect a new venture when a very challenging aspect is applying, and it’s preferable to elect a time when a particularly positive aspect hasn’t yet perfected (is applying rather than separating).
The Moon is waxing this week until the Full Moon occurs on May 5th, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, with some exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waning after the Full Moon on the 5th, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, also with some exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from Friday, the 5th, at approximately 9;15 PM EDT, until Saturday, May 6th, at approximately 10:35 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Scorpio. Major caveats: this window occurs while Mercury is retrograde AND right after a Lunar Eclipse, compromising decision-making–there’s a lot we don’t know at this point.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury semi-square Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It’s not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.
Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!
Sun semi-square Neptune. Our willpower is low as we stray from our goals and temporarily lose focus. It’s difficult to formulate — or stick to — clear goals during this transit. Concentrating on artistic or spiritual pursuits is better than focusing on matters that require straightforward, factual thinking today. It can be difficult knowing where or how to direct our willpower under this influence. It’s also a challenge knowing where we stand with others. Avoid such things as scheduling surgery, important appointments, job interviews, or launches of new projects at this time.
Mercury semi-square Venus. Difficulties in social or romantic communication are possible today. On the other hand, we may make more efforts to be polite and to communicate. Hypersensitivity, and lack of mental discipline. Our minds wander.
Mars sesquiquadrate Saturn. We are called upon to solve problems, or our plans and efforts meet with resistance. Circumstances seem to block our efforts to assert ourselves. Patience is necessary now, although frustration is very likely. It can feel like more effort than usual is required to complete tasks.
Venus square Neptune. Relationship ups and downs characterize this transit – a time when romantic mirages are more than likely. We see what we hope to see, rather than what really is. The “highs” of a relationship begun under this energy may be thrilling, but the accompanying “lows” are bound to set in, and they can be extremely draining. Be careful not to set yourself up for disappointment. The same goes for finances – what appears to be a great buy is likely to turn out to be a financial drain or money pit. Lines can blur when it comes to pursuit of pleasure, as we can convince ourselves to believe what we want to believe.
Venus sextile Jupiter. Cooperation, consideration for others, cheerfulness, positive attitude towards relationships, romantic opportunities, harmony. Favors financial endeavors. Optimistic spiritual energy is brought to relationships. We tend to connect to a higher purpose regarding our personal relationships and our values, attaching meaning to them. We may enjoy a feeling of well-being now. Ease is experienced in social situations. We are freer with our affections (and our money). This is also a favorable transit for entertaining and socializing.

APRIL 30
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Virgo, and the need to get organized can come on strongly. The Moon in Virgo is adaptable, helpful, and intelligent. Its trines to the Sun this morning and Mercury this afternoon help us find satisfying outlets for expressing our needs. Conversations can be supportive and two-way, and negotiations are fair. Keeping busy and making headway satisfies us more than usual. We’re more focused on the details of our lives than the larger goals, giving us a chance to manage essential tasks that help fortify and support our endeavors.
MAY 1
While the Moon in Virgo today craves some semblance of order, with a Mercury-Neptune semi-square early day, there can be cloudy thinking or a tendency to daydream. We may not express ourselves clearly, or others are not reading our messages well–likely, it’s a combination of the two. The Sun is also heading toward a semi-square with Neptune.
Pluto stations and turns retrograde today, and Pluto’s intense and complex energy hangs heavy in the air in the days surrounding this event. Now and over the coming months (Pluto is retrograde until October 10th), we are not as open, overt, or direct about our desire for control or power, and some of us may be less in touch with it. This shift of direction can bring about some initial confusion, heaviness, and magnification of problems. Pluto’s retrograde cycle itself, however, is an excellent period for research and gaining new insight into our self-destructive tendencies, needs for control, and search for the truth by looking within. Outward pressures may ease somewhat during this period. Over the coming months, we may reassess how we use our power. This is the first retrograde Pluto makes while in the sign of Aquarius. On June 11th, retrograde Pluto will return to Capricorn.
The inferior conjunction of the Sun and Mercury occurs this evening, marking the middle of the Mercury retrograde phase. We get a unique window into the past as it might impact our future. It’s a critical time for new ideas, although they’re very new and raw at this “birthing” stage. There is an awakening happening at this time as we release old patterns and begin anew. It’s a good time to process recent events and ideas and to start looking at problems or issues from a new perspective and understanding, mainly related to finances, security, and comfort. Significant new ideas are born at this time and will likely have staying power or significance down the road. What we say or write now has more impact than usual. Still, we may not have all the facts necessary to come to a solid conclusion, and we might later have to revise plans or decisions. With a Lunar Eclipse occurring in only four days, we’re especially in the dark on matters.
The Moon is void from 7:52 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Neptune), until the Moon enters Libra the next day, Tuesday, May 2nd, at 2:09 AM EDT.
MAY 2
The Sun forms a semi-square to Neptune this morning, and there can be some indecision, limbo, or listlessness. Our willpower can plummet as we stray from our goals and temporarily lose focus. This aspect serves as a gentle reminder to consider our needs for downtime, fantasy, or spiritual refreshment. Jupiter’s semi-sextile with Neptune suggests some tendency to avoidance or dishonesty, which can undermine our confidence. If we overlook our need for moral, spiritual, or non-material elements in our pursuits, we can feel vaguely dissatisfied now. However, a Venus-Pluto biquintile can point to a comfortably strategic approach to our money and relationships. The Moon moves into Libra at 2:09 AM EDT, turning our emotional focus to harmonizing and balancing.
The void Moon continues today until the Moon enters Libra at 2:09 AM EDT.
MAY 3
Today’s Libra Moon is balanced, relationship-focused, and gracious. This morning, retrograde Mercury forms a semi-square to Venus, and our words may not reflect what’s in our hearts. As we try to get the words just right, we could fall short with sensitivity. We may be in two minds about a matter–decisions can be hard to come by. Nevertheless, we’re making an extra effort to cooperate. With a Mars-Saturn sesquiquadrate this evening, it’s best to slow down in the face of obstacles, as trying to move too fast can create more resistance. Since circumstances seem to block our efforts to assert ourselves, patience is necessary now.
MAY 4
Venus forms a square to Neptune today, and this transit can cast a veil over our needs, wants, and perceptions. We may be dreaming up the ideal, which can clash with reality. We can lack some discrimination, particularly regarding people we care about, our relationships, and material things. We should make an effort to separate fact from fiction to not set ourselves up for disappointment. What appears to be a great buy or something we need may turn out to be useless to us, or worse, a financial drain or money pit. Lines can blur with pursuing pleasure, as we can convince ourselves to believe what we want to think. We’re likely too close to the situation. Examining discontent experienced now may be an opportunity to identify where we’ve neglected our spiritual, idealistic, romantic, or imaginative needs. The Moon continues its transit of fair-minded Libra until 10:32 AM EDT, when it moves into passionate Scorpio. With a Lunar Eclipse occurring tomorrow, it’s all the more reason to take things with a grain of salt.
The Moon is void from 5:17 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 10:32 AM EDT.
MAY 5
The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse occurs today at 1:35 PM EDT in the sign of Scorpio. It’s the sixth eclipse in an eclipse set of seven occurring along the Taurus-Scorpio sign axis (the first appeared in November 2021, and the last will happen in October 2023). We can experience symbolic illumination–something that’s been building inside of us releases now. Our emotions heighten, and we’re likely to awaken to our material and emotional needs and our attachments. We should take some time to process our discoveries since the eclipse tends to magnify our issues. It’s best to watch what we say or put out into the world today since it’s all too easy for things to become exaggerated under this influence.
MAY 6
The Moon continues its transit of Scorpio today until 4:04 PM EDT, harmonizing first with Mars and then Neptune. The Scorpio Moon brings out intensity today. We’re deliberate, strategic, perceptive, and emotional. These transits stir our desire for intimacy. We are more emotionally present and involved than usual. The Sagittarius Moon, from 4:04 PM forward, encourages an enthusiastic and optimistic approach. A creative aspect between Venus and Chiron suggests gaining a social advantage through a willingness to grow, learn, and listen. We’re especially receptive to one another’s needs.
The Moon is void from 10:38 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Neptune), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 4:04 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Taurus The cycle now dawning in your life emphasizes stability, substance, practicality, and the concept of value – value in the material as well as psycho-spiritual sense. This marks a time of building to last, of appreciating the substantial rather than ephemeral. Consolidating past gains rather than focusing on radical new departures is likely to be a major theme for you during this cycle. Appreciating the finer things of life is another hallmark of this phase, which marks a time when you should be concentrating on “smelling the roses” rather than passing them by in such a hurry.
Mercury in Taurus “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” – that’s the key to the way you think at a time like this. Practical, utilitarian ideas are the ones that make the most sense now – putting them to good use is a focus for you. Material things are foremost on your mind in many respects: an emphasis on the real rather than the ideal.
Mars in Cancer Defensive, aren’t we? With this new cycle getting underway, protecting and preserving you and yours takes on a higher than usual priority. A sensitivity to the needs and wants of others and an appreciation for their frailties (as well as your own) makes you more cautious and conservative … you pick your battles with care.
Jupiter in Aries Faith in yourself and your future is emphasized as you begin this new cycle. A feeling that anything is possible leads to new ventures, a clean break from the past. At its best, this is a very positive and optimistic new cycle in your life, but at times, overconfidence can border on foolhardy bravery. Don’t burn your bridges behind you!
Saturn in Pisces Making peace with the past, coming to terms with karmic debts: these are some of the issues that confront you as a new phase begins in your life. Failure to face these things can cause setbacks and put obstacles in your path. Learn to look beyond the narrowly personal and selfish or you’ll get in over your head.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Aquarius Reform, revolution, a rejection of the past and a focus on the future: these are the signatures of the new phase now beginning in your life. Tradition becomes irrelevant, and the conventional wisdom is revealed as dogma or outright nonsense – and what’s the difference, really? Radical changes in all things social and intellectual.
