Sign Combinations: Sun in Aries and Aquarius Ascendant
Two people with the same Sun sign will share some similar traits. However, not all Aries Sun individuals present the same way, and that’s where their Ascendant sign (or Rising sign) comes into play.
The Sun sign is also modified by the Sun’s aspects and house position, and a full interpretation of a person’s natal chart can be illuminating. However, Sun-Ascendant combinations can reveal interesting differences (and similarities) between people born under the same Sun.

What does it mean to have the Sun in Aries AND a Aquarius Ascendant?
Sun in Aries – Aquarius Ascendant Combination
Fiery personality with an authentic vibe.
A unique, independent personality. Unusual interests, and the first in line for something new.
Description: The combination of an Aries Sun and an Aquarius Ascendant makes for an unabashedly authentic person who will talk very openly about their big, sometimes radical, ideas. There will be no question whether they are being truthful about themselves, as they do not wish to ever come across as dishonest or as someone who cannot think for themselves.
Because both signs, Aries and Aquarius, are very freedom-loving and independent with go-getting spirit, the Aries-Aquarius will carve out their own path in life and live their lives without much care for what others think of them.
The Aquarius Ascendant in this combination adds a more considerable intellectual component to the nature when meeting people than the traditional Aries. With a focus on the big picture and society as a whole, they may speak of their ideas in a way that is more detached from emotions and more focused on the objective they have set.
Others may view the Sun in Aries/Aquarius Ascendant person as a visionary with big dreams. Energetic Aries qualities will inevitably emerge when talking about these ideas–they speak excitedly and at length about them! Still, they may come across as stubborn and unwavering about their beliefs. In reality, they are much more adaptable than they appear.
With Aries being often impatient and needing change to escape boredom and the Aquarius Ascendant adding an appearance of being closed off emotionally, these kinds of Aries may appear especially “hard to get” regarding relationships. They’re not always comfortable talking about their emotions with new people in their lives, but once they break down those walls, the Aries inside will come forward, who is much more straightforward and direct about what they are feeling.
With that Aries core personality, the Aries-Aquarius person is naturally reactive and impulsive. But when facing the world, they instinctively try to put their emotions aside and lean more on logic and their minds than their hearts.
As this combination needs to be true to themselves, they dislike feeling caged in by rules and will be the first to openly question and argue rules and societal expectations and norms. When it comes to their appearance, they are always the first to know the newest trends, but they will only ever wear what they genuinely like. They are not afraid to stand out, and they often desire it. They come across incredibly open to new ideas and progressive.
With this Ascendant bringing out Aries’ helpful qualities, they may desire to be part of a group to work for a greater good in some capacity. Although they’re more of a team player than an average Aries, the core Aries desire for independence and competitiveness occasionally emerges, which could lead to difficulties committing to any one group for a long time.
The sign of Aries has big dreams and a palpable excitement for what they are doing but with a bit of a short attention span. This, paired with the progressive appearance of the Aquarius Ascendant, can produce someone with a seemingly ever-changing stream of interesting new ideas for the world! They want to change the world somehow, and their creativity and enthusiasm about the ideas they need to get there are something they genuinely love to talk about with people they meet.
Key Traits of this combination
You will find most or all of the following traits, depending on how the natal chart is configured:
- Fiercely independent.
- Unshakably authentic.
- Idealistic.
If the Aries Sun/Aquarius Rising person has the Sun in the 3rd house of their natal chart, communication and connection are big themes in their lives. This combination is quite outgoing and approachable.
If, on the other hand, the Aries Sun is in the 2nd or 4th house, there is more rootedness and less adaptability. This Aries-Aquarius is idealistic and humanitarian, but is also quite security-focused, needing a lot of time with familiar faces and places to regroup.
Whichever is the case, the Aries-Aquarius person’s Mars and Saturn/Uranus positions will tell more of the story, refining the picture further.
Likes: having the most original ideas, straightforward approaches, progress, novelty.
Dislikes: hedging, passive aggression, being the last to know.
What’s the difference between the Sun and Ascendant sign?
Your Aries Sun sign traits are your core personality characteristics. When someone meets you for the first time, they more likely see your Aquarius Ascendant attributes. After getting to know you further, they’ll recognize both Aries and Aquarius.
- Different elements: Aries is a fire sign (Fire signs are fiery, assertive, and impulsive) and Aquarius is an air sign (Air signs are mental, social, and fair-minded).
- Different modes: Aries is a cardinal sign (Cardinal signs are proactive and controlling) and Aquarius is a fixed sign (Fixed signs are determined and resist change).
- Compatible elements and different modes: The Fire of Aries harmonizes with the Air of Aquarius. These signs complement one another well. While Aries and Aquarius are different, they share enough similarities and compatible qualities to create a harmonious package. The signs differ more obviously in their modes: Aries wants to stay on top of things and is ready to make changes, while Aquarius is slower to adapt to changes. As such, the Aries-Aquarius person may appear more patient and set in their ways than they are.
