Natal Chart Interpretations: Cafe Astrology Report

What follows is the text for natal chart interpretations found in the free birth chart here, written by Annie Heese, Cafe Astrology. Ascendant Signs/Rising Signs

Aries Ascendant

The Ascendant defines, in part, the first impression we make on others in a personal rather than professional sense. It represents our physical appearance, our physical bodies and overall health, and the body ego. It can be the mask or costume we wear to greet the world. It reveals our natural and personal defense mechanisms that we use to adapt to – and cope with – our environment. The Ascendant also shows our first impressions of the world around us and our expectations of same –whether we are naturally hesitant or enthusiastic, for example. How we begin new projects and our attitude towards new experiences come under the rule of the Ascendant.

With an Aries Ascendant, you are direct and quick. Your first instinct is to do, rather than think. You don’t always plan ahead — more often than not, you charge forward without much ado, preferring to deal with issues as they arise.

You are forthright but not necessarily aggressive. Impatience can certainly be a vice, but you don’t have much trouble taking on something new, and others admire your courageous and enterprising nature. You have a youthful, direct manner that sees what it wants and goes for it. At the same time, there is rarely malice in your intent.

You may be competitive, but it’s more about putting pressure on yourself to be FIRST. You love to come out ahead in virtually all you do. You get ready quickly, walk quickly, and have little patience for dilly-dallying. Your temper is quick, too. It’s also quick to disappear. In fact, you thrive on putting the past behind you and moving on. Rarely do you hold grudges (unless you have a strong eighth house, Pluto, or Scorpio presence in your chart). Your mannerisms are rather simple and straightforward.

You love action, and you’re often found attempting to stir up some activity. One of your many strengths lies in your enterprising ways. Finishing things you start does not always come as easily, unless your rising sign ruler, Mars, is placed in a more tenacious sign, such as Taurus or Scorpio. In fact, Mars takes on more importance in your chart because Mars rules your rising sign. The position of Mars by house, sign, and aspect in your chart has a strong bearing on how and where you direct your Aries rising energies. It colors your personal approach to the world and your attitude towards new beginnings.

This Ascendant often gives a rather swift walk, with the head leaning forward slightly. This walk is surprisingly distinctive. Headaches and sinus or eye problems are the usual physical complaints of this position. Rashes and acne on the face and shoulders sometimes occur. Broad shoulders and slim hips are common. Often, Aries rising people are quick to smile, and they possess a youthful charm throughout life.

It is entirely possible that early in life you were typecast the “independent” child. As an adult, this role may very well have stuck with you. People don’t run to help you out – you appear quite fine doing things on your own. You have learned to be self-reliant, and this usually stems from your early experiences. Your first instinct is to cover up any sign of weakness. This shield or mask can cause you a few problems at times, as people often see you as stronger than you may feel.

People frequently see you as a leader or trendsetter, at least on the first impression, and, as a result, they don’t usually come on strong when they approach you. Alternatively, you may be seen as a loner or someone who is just fine on their own.

You are a pioneer, and you’re enthusiastic about new things. You’re the one who breaks the ice. Diplomacy may not be your best quality (unless Libra, Venus, and/or the seventh house are strong). You are certainly me-centered, or at least come across that way, but you do so unapologetically. Peer pressure influences you far less than most people. In fact, you’re just fine going your own way and doing your own thing. You truly don’t want to come across as a follower.

Taurus Ascendant

Slow, steady, and capable are adjectives that we can safely attach to individuals born with a Taurus Ascendant. You are likely to possess tremendous stamina and staying power, or, at the very least, you come across as very stable and comfortable. You are often quite loyal to the people you care about, and even to places, objects, and situations. Although you typically don’t come on strong, you have a strong personal presence, and you fairly radiate stability. There is also a wonderfully healing and sensual aura surrounding you.

The sign on the Ascendant reveals how individuals start or approach new things and situations. Taurus, by nature, is resistant to change as a Fixed Earth sign. It can be difficult to sway Taurus rising natives –they’re often rather stubborn and fixed in their ways. Your first instincts are to feel things out in the realm of the five senses. You have a well-developed sense of smell and touch, and you respond powerfully to the material world. You adopt a practical approach to life, and you are often very methodical. Security is one of your first considerations before undertaking anything new.

You may be very cautious and careful, at least at first or in appearance. With a Fixed sign on your Ascendant, you are definitely NOT known for your flexibility. Rather, you possess determined single-mindedness. You may have been labeled the slow and cautious child in your early years. Sometimes, this placement indicates a childhood in which there was a little too much emphasis on the material world. However, you are likely to have fond memories of your early years unless Venus is very challenged in your chart.

In fact, Venus is your first house ruler, and its position and condition by sign, house, and aspect have a particularly profound impact on your life. The placement of Venus can also influence and color your appearance, mannerisms, and approach to the world around you or new situations. For example, if you have Venus in a Fire sign, you may come across as more assertive or impatient than other people with Taurus rising.

You may very well be a creature of habit. While you are a tolerant person, changes to your routine can be difficult for you to accept. In fact, one of your pet peeves is to be pushed into new situations. People have a hard time getting you to change your mind once it’s made up.

More than most, Taurus rising prefers the “good things” in life. Self-indulgence can be a weakness for many with this Ascendant. You may very well be a collector in a significant way — you place a lot of value on your possessions. More than most, you may want to own your own home or a piece of land, for example. You also thrive on physical touch.

You often avoid atmospheres that are very noisy or chaotic. You come across as quite easygoing, and, for the most part, this is true. However, you do have a breaking point, and once beyond it, you are unlikely to come back.

Security and certainty are tremendously important to you. Perhaps you take your time on new beginnings because once you set out on a course, you rarely stray from it. Stubbornness and persistence can get you places. However, it can sometimes cause interpersonal problems, mainly because people close to you can be tempted to approach you in roundabout ways simply to get their way. If this persists, relationships can become toxic. Aim for more flexibility and place more value on others’ honesty and directness than peace and harmony in the moment.

You often prefer to dress in quality clothes with a comfortable feel to them. You are rarely ostentatious in your presentation. Many people with this rising sign have strong and sturdy physiques or the appearance of robustness. You tend to move in a graceful or sensual manner. Many people with your rising sign have beautiful, soothing voices. You radiate contentment and peace. While this endears you to others, at times this can lead you to feel misunderstood. There can be times when you’re feeling anxious and off-center, but you rarely appear this way.

Often rather possessive in partnership, those with Taurus rising don’t easily break up their relationships, or their routines and habits! Although you are not particularly jealous, you have some tendency to view your partners or friends as your personal property. Intensity and loyalty are especially important to you. You are a highly sensual person, often preferring the comforts that a one-to-one, stable partnership offers. Although you value harmony and calm, your partnerships may be on the passionate side.

Gemini Ascendant

Your Ascendant is Gemini (or Gemini is rising in your chart). With a Gemini Ascendant, you see the world as a place to learn. You’re curious about the people around you. You are an individual who loves to ask questions, move around freely, and mingle.

Restless and often quick in physical expression, you exude an air of impatience even if you don’t mean to. Nervous tics or an appearance of ephemerality are common with this position. There is a cleverness to you that can intimidate some, especially sensitive folk. Your facility with words can be an incredible asset, although there can be times when you identify too much with your mental agility and forget, in your personal interactions and communications, to nurture the people around you. A certain lack of warmth in presentation can be the result, and although this style is generally a facade, the fact that it’s just an image may not be immediately apparent to most. People with, for example, predominant Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces) may feel a little ill at ease with you (before they get to know you more personally, that is), while strong Air types (Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius) more fully appreciate your sense of fun and cleverness.

There are two main styles of presentation for a Gemini Ascendant. One style is bubbly, changeable, talkative, and a little quirky. You’re interesting and fun. You constantly explain things, whether it’s your own behavior and opinion or those of the world around you. Another distinct “style” is a rather cool and intellectual demeanor. If you’re this type, you are quite witty and clever, but you present yourself in a less cheerful and changeable way than the first group. Your observations are sharp, and your overall manner is a tad impersonal.

No matter the style, you are given to analysis and making sense of your world. Your powers of observation are well-developed, you are mentally active (more often than not, your mind is racing!), and you almost always have something bright or witty to say. It is easy for you to get sidetracked, as your curiosity is large, your mind quick, and your attention span rather short!

As a child, you may have earned the label as the intellectual, inquisitive, and perhaps odd or scatterbrained child. Sometimes there was some lack of warmth or an overemphasis on the intellect in your early years. However, the early environment was likely intelligent, busy, and engaging.

People with this placement are often very humorous and playful. Frequently, they are superb at mimicking others.

You retain a youthful quality throughout life. In fact, many people with Gemini rising frequently say, “I don’t want to grow up!” New situations are typically greeted with youthful enthusiasm and curiosity. However, if Mercury, the planet ruling your Ascendant, is challenged, you can be quite prone to anxiety. In fact, the condition and placement of Mercury in your chart takes on more importance than usual, as it may be considered your chart’s ruler. Mercury’s sign, house position, and aspects help to color your mannerisms, defense mechanisms, and approach to the world.

Your face is tremendously expressive, and you might find that people seem to read a lot into your expressions. Very frequently, you wear a quizzical or pensive look.

You are very sensitive to your environment, and you thrive on movement, light, and fresh air. It’s a little too easy for you to feel restless, but a brisk walk or a change of scenery can put you in a better mood. It’s simply not good for you to stay hidden away or in closed quarters without contact for very long. You’re extremely adaptable and flexible, and finding an anchor will be important in your life. Watch for starting too many things, as you don’t always feel like following through. Continuity can be difficult for you. You are very reasonable, and this trait endears you to others.

In one-to-one relationships, you seek some personal freedom and space, although this may not be as prominent if you have Venus and/or Mars in a water sign. You gravitate towards people with robust personal philosophies and similar politics. You enjoy intellectual debates and exchanging ideas. Cancer Ascendant

With a Cancer Ascendant, you are likely to come across as a gentle creature. There’s something familiar about you — at least you appear to be the guy or gal next door. When you enter a room, you don’t walk in with a big splash. Instead, you move to the sides and weave your way inwards. People you haven’t met might often see you as familiar. Because you are rather sensitive to your environment, you can get flustered easily, especially in public.

You wear your feelings on your face! Sometimes, people will read your expressions as emotions you’re not even feeling at the moment. Very much does depend on your mood, which is quite variable. You can be extraordinarily helpful and kind, but quite miserable when you’re down. You tend to withdraw and self-nurture during these times. Even so, you’re very likable and have a sincere, warm personality.

You are extremely sensitive to the emotional environment and atmosphere around you. Surround yourself with supportive people, but do try to step outside of your comfort zone from time to time so that you learn that you can do so with good results. Confidence builds slowly but surely this way. Sometimes, you put on a tough exterior so that you’re not taken advantage of or taken for granted. Unfortunately, there are people who will take advantage of your kindness, but building a wall can block out the respectful people, too!

When you were a child, you may have been labeled the sensitive, emotional, or moody one. For some people with this Ascendant, there was extra coddling in their childhood, which can affect adult life, too. Safety and security are driving forces, and your need for these things plays a significant role in your reaction to new experiences. You approach new situations and people with some level of caution. You definitely come around once you feel safe, but playing it safe can sometimes limit your experiences.

You can have a wonderful sense of humor and your observations are real treasures. You see the world in a unique and beautiful way, and people love it when you share your point of view. When you’re happy and engaged, you might often be described as warm, funny, and sweet.

The Moon has a stronger influence in your chart than most. Look to the Moon’s condition and placement by sign, house, and aspect for further refinements of the personality you project to others, your defense mechanisms, and the ways you approach the world around you.

Your first instinct, when threatened or on unfamiliar ground, is to protect yourself! When new situations present themselves, your first instinct may be to withdraw immediately. You may very well come across as shy, but more often than not, caring. You seem quite sweet — even innocent. You appear unassuming enough to be quite approachable. Some Cancer Ascendants, however, have retreated into themselves so much as to be quite the opposite. Most are delightfully loyal and genuinely kind-hearted.

Since Capricorn is the sign on the Descendant, Cancer Ascendant people are looking for structure and security in their partner and their relationship. You might function best when your partner displays strength, financial and emotional stability, and know-how. In fact, you may very well prefer it when a relationship has clear rules. Security is the primary need, and you are more than willing to give up some personal freedom to get it. In some cases, Cancer Ascendant people can surprise their partners. Why? Leo Ascendant

Leo rising people cannot help but be noticed. They radiate a unique energy and magnetism that gets others’ attention. Sometimes it’s because they are loud people who pay a lot of attention to their personal appearance (especially their hair!); other times it’s due to a regal manner that simply demands interest from others.

You are very self-aware and body-conscious. You are acutely aware of others, and how you come across. In fact, you are especially aware of your personal “backdrop” – you consider what the people you’re with, and the environments you’re in, do to your own image. Often, Leo rising natives feel as if they are on stage, even in the privacy of their own homes!

You are given to rash decisions, temper tantrums, and excesses. However, you have plenty of staying power and drive, and your idealism keeps you from getting into too much trouble. The desire to oversee the goings-on in your circle can sometimes amount to bossiness or the appearance of bossiness. If this wish doesn’t go too far, however, it’s really about making sure the people you love are alright. Many Leo rising people are managers, either by profession or character.

The tendency to overestimate things, and yourself, is entirely possible with this rising sign. This is due to your natural enthusiasm and optimism about any new undertaking. Sometimes, people with this position are walking commercials. In fact, Leo rising people make excellent promoters.

You can be quite demonstrative and given to grand gestures, although if your Sun is in a less outgoing sign or house, this may not be quite as evident. Quiet power is perfectly fine. Drama does come naturally to you either way. In fact, sometimes you can be so caught up in fiction that you’re a little blind to fact. You have an unusual need to be admired and respected.

Whether or not you’re popular, you can be hard to resist. In fact, it’s probably up to you whether you want to move with the “in” crowd or not. You can be quite selective about who you give your full friendship to, probably because you’re tremendously loyal and whole-hearted with those you do, so it’s not something you take lightly. People can be intimidated, however, upon first meeting, mainly because you come across as quite self-assured and self-sufficient. You do want to appear in control, and you very much exceed at doing so. This might work against you at times when you could use a bit of help.

No matter your age in real-world terms, you are a kid at heart. You are fun-loving and warm, generous and spirited. In childhood, you may have acquired the label of the strong one, and much was expected of you. Even so, caregivers might have also treated you very carefully, tiptoeing around you, as they knew how easy it was to hurt your pride. As a child, when you were happy, you were a true peach, but when you weren’t, everyone around you suffered! This may have been a reason for this kind of “special handling.” As you mature, ideally you learn that recognition and feedback are not what make you powerful, even if this message was absorbed at an early age.

You can often find yourself in the position of leader, whether or not you’ve chosen that role – you simply radiate the kind of energy that suggests you’re in command and know what to do next. While you try to hide it, you are worried about failing or coming across as weak and ineffective. You are very proud! You have a strong sense of bravado and performance. Almost to a fault, you take the high road.

It’s quite likely you have a strong physical constitution. You pay particular attention to your personal appearance and mannerisms. You often choose clothing and hairstyles that are youthful and stylish. Your manner is authoritarian and stable, and also quite warm. You always seem to make a strong impression. There is something about you that is substantial, and people usually consider you to be trustworthy.

You can be intensely, and quite stubbornly, loyal and giving. It’s imperative that others treat you with the respect and recognition you deserve — you are unlikely to forge a real bond with someone who doesn’t. You often attract people who are a little more emotionally detached than you, and those who tend to go their own way rather than follow the crowd.

Just how magnanimous and outgoing you are will be modified by the placement of your Sun by sign and house, as well as the Sun’s condition by aspect. This is because the ruling planet of your Ascendant (which is often called the chart ruler) is the Sun. For example, a Leo rising person with Sun in Virgo may not come across as strongly as a Leo rising person with Sun in Aries. No matter the placement of the Sun, however, you are quite self-aware and optimistic. You have a natural flair for presentation, an eye for quality, and a hard-to-resist warmth of style. Virgo Ascendant

People with Virgo rising are often a little understated in their personal mannerisms and appearance, although a lot depends on the position of Mercury (the ruling planet of Virgo) in the chart. There is an intelligent and reserved aura about Virgo rising individuals that is unmistakable, however.

You may come across as somewhat shy or aloof, as you need time to analyze everything around you before you warm up to both situations and people. This quality can be received exactly as that, or it can be received as a rather stand-offish, cool, and even critical manner (depending on the audience).

One of the strongest personality traits of this position is body-awareness. You can be particularly sensitive to any discomfort or other signals your body gives you. For this reason, you can be particularly concerned with physical health and might be drawn to mind-body awareness exercises such as yoga. You might also be quite particular with food! Although some people with Virgo rising have good appetites, there can be an unmistakable pickiness about what they put in–and on–their bodies.

You are likely to worry a lot, especially when confronted with new situations. It’s difficult not to since you notice the tiniest details that others overlook. Your powers of observation are through the roof, but sometimes this trait adds too much to the anxiety pile.

With Virgo rising, it’s definite that you have Pisces on the Descendant. This can point to a tendency to attract (or be attracted to) people who need help, which can lead to uncomfortable or confusing situations — sometimes you feel taken advantage of. Despite the Virgo rising tendency to appear rather collected and professional, relationships can sometimes get messy simply because you don’t always see your partners and partnerships clearly. You want to see the best in a partner.

You absolutely have your own way of doing things! Some may even call your methods unusual or peculiar, but they get the job done. It’s very true that Virgo is a flexible sign — after all, it’s from the Mutable mode family — and you often make accommodations for others. However, your way is the right way, and as much as you allow others to do their own thing, you demand the right to do the same. You’ve put a lot of time and energy into your methods, after all.

You work hard at whatever you do. Always going the extra mile, you have a difficult time being idle. As hard as you work, however, you may not always be focused on the big prize. For one, worry and particularness can slow you down — you can be quite the perfectionist. For another, you’re not always comfortable in the spotlight. However, this trait can be modified by the position and condition of Mercury in your chart, by sign, house, and aspect. For example, if Mercury is in Aquarius, you may not mind standing out from the crowd!

You are at your best in a line of work or with projects that you can oversee and manage in detail. Starting small and expanding slowly but surely is definitely the better choice for you, as situations that seem beyond your control can overwhelm you too quickly. Your confidence builds as you move along at your own pace. Watch that you don’t miss out on opportunities because of the high standards you have for yourself. You may not think you can handle something, but if you give it a try, you may very well realize that you worried about it for nothing.

You can be highly skilled at what you do. It’s no surprise that there are many artisans among you with your meticulous attention to detail and your desire to perfect and hone your craft. You might also be drawn to projects and lines of work that involve a lot of research, analysis, classification, and detail work.

You can come across as a little cool or critical, often without even realizing it. In truth, you are kind and concerned. You do live in your head so much that you can end up not trusting your intuition — something to watch for! You are not obviously demonstrative. You are an earthy and sensual being, but it doesn’t show up in first impressions.

Orderliness is vital to you. Chaotic situations stress you out more than they do others. You quickly become aware of all the variables involved in a new situation, and it’s important to you that you feel you can manage them. With Mercury your sign’s ruler, you can be given to fretting, tension, and nervousness. You certainly aim to pay attention to the smallest details. You can be a great lover of lists, catalogs, and schedules. Feeling organized finds you at your happiest!

You possess a quiet charm, and once you have the chance to warm up to new people and situations, you have much to offer. In other words, it’s worth the extra effort that people may need to put in to get to know you! Libra Ascendant

Everybody seems to like people with your Libra rising sign! You just come across as exceptionally nice, pleasant, and fair. While the condition of Venus in your chart can modify this, many of you give an easy, warm, and approachable first impression. Look a little closer at the lives of people with your Ascendant, and these nice people may have had quite a few problems in their relationships. Some of them have had a string of relationships, and it can be hard to imagine why! Perhaps it’s because people with Libra Ascendants attract others to them effortlessly. Besides, they often don’t know what to do with themselves without a significant other. Of course, not all Libra rising people are made the same, and some simply come across as companionable but are quite fine on their own.

You might often be found smoothing everything over – you do love pleasant surroundings! You likely have a particularly charming smile, a gentle approach with others, and an easygoing image. Even those Libra Ascendant natives who are not endowed with classic good looks are attractive. You may very well pay a lot of attention to your personal appearance — the colors you wear, your hair, the way you walk. The sign of Libra aims for balance, and this can translate as special attention to balance in both your appearance and manner.

You can be enormously persuasive, although you will almost always use a “soft sell” approach when you want to win others over, which is all (or most) of the time! A tendency to pass the buck and keep up that “nice guy/gal” image can be your worst qualities. However, you can make an excellent mediator and will generally be the first to accommodate others. Peace-making and diplomacy are powerful and necessary skills, and you have them down pat.

Because Aries, Libra’s opposing sign, is on your partnership sector or Descendant, you might often find yourself attracted to competent, active partners. This can work out very well for you as your partner can take on the role that you don’t want for yourself. If it does cause problems, then there are some things to consider, however. For one, this can sometimes mean that your close relationships have bickering or competitiveness as themes. The more you learn to accept the blame rather than attempt to push it onto others, this can certainly decrease. You have a sweet image, yes, but if you overidentify with this image (which is very easy to do!), then this can cause some interpersonal problems. In other instances, however, you attract aggressive people into your life because you seem so malleable, and this can be toxic – you’ll need to draw some boundaries. Most of the time, however, seeking out a more assertive partner works just fine for you, and much will have to do with how Mars, ruler of Aries, is doing in your chart.

You are wonderfully gracious and accommodating, making you a real asset to any group. You are remarkedly skilled at negotiating and harmonizing. You are a people person, and you’re always intrigued by how people interact with one another. Cooperation comes very easily to you – in fact, it’s usually your first instinct.

Libra is an Air sign, and yes, sometimes people with your Ascendant can come across as airheads! However, that can simply be a first impression. You prefer to avoid direct confrontation. However, you can be quick to point out injustices. You prefer people are treated fairly and as equals.

You usually prefer that others don’t experience your ups and downs or your difficult side. However, this sometimes works against you. In an effort to keep things pleasant, you may give off the impression that you’re fine when you’re not. As a child, you may have been “typecast” as the easygoing, agreeable one, and it can sometimes feel difficult to break out of that mold.

An imbalanced, chaotic environment can be particularly challenging for you to navigate, and it can lead to quite a bit of anxiety. You will do whatever you can to balance things out. You pay more attention than most to the sounds, colors, and others’ moods around you, and you can spend quite a bit of time and energy on attempts to bring things into harmony. For your own health and well-being, you can benefit from taking extra time to yourself learning what it is that you need and want, as you may too often confuse others’ needs and wants with your own. If you end up going along with others so that you can keep the peace, you may be doing yourself a disservice at times.

You truly understand others and this makes it very comfortable to be around you, particularly if in one-to-one setups. You make a good counselor. Design, marketing, the law, and art are well-starred. You love orderliness and beautiful things and surroundings.

Scorpio Ascendant

Scorpio Ascendant people have a lot of presence. There is something about them that tells the world that they are not to be pushed around. Their manner commands respect, and in some cases, fear. With your Scorpio Ascendant, you can be quiet or loud, but you always seem powerful and determined, regardless of what’s going on inside you.

People either love or hate you – you are unlikely to go through life unnoticed. In fact, you might even find it confusing when you realize that you elicit such strong reactions from others. You seem to look right through people, seeing through superficiality. This can be quite intimidating to some, and intriguing to others!

In your dealings with others, you perpetually and instinctively look for answers by reading between the lines. Surface details are often quickly discarded when it comes to feeling out a situation or people around you.
