A FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Monday, November 7th, 2016, at 2:51 PM EST. On Monday afternoon, the First Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Scorpio forms a square with the Moon in Aquarius.
There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 15 degrees and 50 minutes of Aquarius forming a square with the Sun at 15 degrees and 50 minutes of Scorpio, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 14 to 18 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Scorpio; Mercury is in Scorpio until the 12th, when it enters Sagittarius; Venus is in Sagittarius until the 11th, when it enters Capricorn; Mars is in Capricorn until the 9th, when it enters Aquarius.
The Sun is in Scorpio from October 22-November 21. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire”. Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio. We have the desire to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair. Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.
Mercury is in Scorpio from October 24-November 12. When Mercury is in Scorpio, our thoughts and communications are more probing and intense. While Mercury in Libra urged us to find balance and to arrive at fair solutions, Mercury in Scorpio instinctively knows that life simply isn’t fair. Mercury in Scorpio seeks truths in all that is hidden and undercover. We tend to probe, observe, and focus our thoughts under this influence. Looking for motivations–the more deeply buried the better–satisfies an intellectual need now. Our thoughts are profound. We throw away superficial manners of communicating in favor of deep conversations. Scorpio is extremely sharp, profound, and analytical. Thinking is inclined to be one-track minded, focused, and even obsessive.
Mercury is in Sagittarius from November 12-December 2. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. Ideals are sought, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.
Venus is in Sagittarius from October 18-November 11. Moving from Scorpio to Sagittarius, romantic energy shifts from intense to buoyant. Sagittarius, of course, has its intense moments, considering it is a fire sign. However, its energy is considerably less focused; and, while Scorpio is most concerned with intimacy with a specific person, Sagittarius’ love is of a more universal kind. Romantic adventures, as well as a straightforward–even blunt–approach to love, are on the agenda. Gone are the intricacy and complexity of Venus in Scorpio. Truth and higher meaning are things that take priority with Sagittarius.
Venus is in Capricorn from November 11-December 7. Getting serious about our finances and boosting our relations with business partners and/or co-workers will be easier than usual under this influence. Our talents for creating artistic structure and form are enhanced, and our ability to form connections with people who support our ambitions is increased. We value enduring connections, reliability, and faithfulness. We take expressing our feelings seriously, and we take our time to warm up to others. We generally keep our “cool” in relationships.
Mars is in Capricorn from September 27-November 9. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. Our energy is reliable and faithful. We are slow to anger, but can be quite cold if we are frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity.
Mars is in Aquarius from November 9-December 19. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit-or-miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players–cooperative and less concerned about personal power. We are attracted to unconventional methods and tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective.
Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015, to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius here.
Jupiter enters Libra on September 9th and will transit Libra until October 10, 2017. Read about Jupiter in Libra here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Sagittarius from October 18-November 11. Moving from Scorpio to Sagittarius, romantic energy changes from intense to buoyant. Truth and higher meaning are focal points for Sagittarius. Venus in Sagittarius is forward-looking, not very specific, outgoing, and energetic. Freedom is most important in our love relationships now. We take a happy and enthusiastic approach to love, and we might find too much intensity or seriousness depressing. We have a taste for the exotic as well as for adventure with Venus in Sagittarius. The shadow side of this position is restlessness, the inability to “settle down”, and endlessly searching for something bigger and “better”.
Venus is in Capricorn from November 11-December 7. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships is paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions, and somewhat skeptical of both our own feelings and others’ expressions of affection. Longevity is important to us under this influence. There is a formality to Capricorn that can make personal expressions seem awkward and forced. However, this cycle offers us the opportunity to consider some of the practical issues of our relations and to work on making our partnerships work in the real world. A dose of realism in our personal lives can help us to feel more grounded and secure in the long run.
This week: Venus doesn’t form any major aspects to the major bodies this week. It does change signs on the 11th, however, from Sagittarius to Capricorn.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Sagittarius A yearning for adventure and far horizons stirs in you now. To roam, to wander and wonder, to seek freedom and go where no one has gone before – these things are deep and powerful longings. A time of romantic crusades, a universal love that might not be too particular.
Venus in Capricorn Marry for money and then learn to love ’em: that’s what your heart tells you now, as a new cycle gets underway in your life. Does that sound cynical? Maybe so – but it does reflect the yearning you feel for security and stability now, and it suggests the kind of compromises you may be willing to make to accomplish these objectives.
Venus trine Uranus November 4-5. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.
Venus sextile Neptune November 19. Unusual attractions that add imagination, inspiration, and emotional “color” to our lives may occur now. We are attuned to the subtleties of human interaction, and we are more inclined to naturally cooperate with others. An imaginative, romantic time.
Venus trine North Node November 19. We are more concerned about harmonizing and tend to be agreeable and cooperative. We could feel lucky in love, and we could meet someone who is good for us. Fortunate connections might be made now.
Venus parallel Mercury November 23-24. A congenial time when we interact diplomatically and socialize more readily.
Venus conjunct Pluto November 24-25. An extraordinarily passionate time for relationships. We are focused and confident. There is a tendency to want–and to demand–a lot from a partnership or friendship. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships begun under this influence are intense and passionate, deep and far from superficial, and can be quite possessive as well.
Venus square Jupiter November 24-25. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships. As well, take what your partner says with a grain of salt. There is no malicious intent involved, but feelings of elation can cloud our judgment, and we can promise more than we can deliver.
Venus sextile Chiron November 28-29. Love has the power to heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings and more willing to act upon them.
Venus square Uranus November 29. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting, but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last–but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.
Venus semi-square Neptune December 2. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deception may come to light now.
Venus parallel the Sun December 5-6. A strong desire for harmony and comfort fill us now. We may be moved to express our affections.
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, November 6th, from 4:57 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mars), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 8:56 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, November 8th, from 8:55 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Pisces at 4:46 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, November 10th, from 6:18 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries at 8:46 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, November 12th, from 7:46 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Uranus), until the Moon enters Taurus at 9:25 PM EST.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury trine Chiron. This is an excellent period for opening up communications with others, as we are more sensitive than usual and more willing to listen. Getting our point across is easier, as it’s not only about which words we choose to communicate, we intuitively express the meaning and intention behind the words. We can effectively use words to heal and comfort just now. We are also more open to new ways of looking at problems or at life in general.
Mercury quincunx Uranus. It is difficult to get a point across without rubbing people the wrong way or misrepresenting ourselves. Uncertainty reigns today. Avoid making hasty decisions that you will later regret. Impulsiveness, disorganization, unreceptive to practical advice and/or your ideas are not well-received.
Sun sextile Pluto. Research brings rewards. We benefit now from strategy and keeping things to ourselves for the time being. Opportunities to find or renew something we had lost, and to gain some power are available now.
Mars semi-square Saturn. We are called upon to solve problems, or our plans and efforts meet with resistance. Circumstances seem to block our efforts to assert ourselves. Patience is necessary now, although frustration is very likely. It can feel like more effort than usual is required to complete tasks.
Mercury semi-square Jupiter. We experience information overload, and we neglect to consider details. People tend to exaggerate today. Monotonous mental tasks are harder to take under this influence. Our minds are restless.
Sun trine Chiron. A sense of purpose or a “mission” is with us now, increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong. Problem solving is favored.
Mercury semi-square Pluto. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress, trouble, or pressure.

What’s In Store By the Stars – Daily Astrology Trends
(as featured on our site’s main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)
NOVEMBER 6
The Moon continues its transit of Capricorn today until 10:15 AM EST when it enters Aquarius. Mercury forms a trine to Chiron and then later a quincunx to Uranus. We can be especially alert, observant, and willing to learn and understand. Even so, there can be an impulsive and disorganized feel to this time. An approaching Sun-Pluto sextile helps. We may be discovering new ways of looking at problems or life in general. We feel stronger and enjoy the empowered feeling that making changes and improvements brings. Research brings rewards. We benefit now from strategy and perhaps some discretion. Opportunities to find or renew something we had lost, and to gain a stronger feeling of personal power, can emerge now.
A void of course Moon occurs from 4:57 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mars), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 8:56 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 7
The Sun forms a sextile to Pluto early today. This can be an exceptionally resourceful time when we feel perfectly capable of overcoming obstacles and meeting challenges. There can be an opportunity to rebuild or reform a project and to work on self-improvement. The Moon is in Aquarius all day, and we are especially clever, independent, and intuitive. This afternoon, the First Quarter Moon occurs as the Moon in Aquarius forms a square with the Sun. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground and gaining momentum, and it may face its first obstacles.
NOVEMBER 8
The Moon continues its transit of Aquarius until 4:46 PM EST, and we’re friendly and humanitarian. We tend to move away from those things that are overly traditional or classic. We may be battling waning motivation, lowered energy, or personal problems that interfere with our ability to nurture and care for others this morning, however. There may be up-in-the-air or confusing elements surrounding home life or a support system. We might choose to avoid putting pressure on others with our expectations or neediness now for best results now. Judgment may be skewed by wishful thinking. We should watch for unresearched decision making now, particularly with Mars traveling the last degree of a sign and inclining us towards hastiness. The Moon is in Pisces from 4:46 PM EST forward, stimulating gentle, sensitive, and perhaps escapist tendencies.
A void of course Moon occurs from 8:55 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Pisces at 4:46 PM EST.
NOVEMBER 9
Mars enters Aquarius today, where it will transit until December 19th. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit-or-miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players– very cooperative and not as concerned about personal power. We are attracted to unconventional methods and tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective. Mars is now in mutual reception with Uranus, and this relationship boosts the performance of both planets. Today, Mars forms a semi-square with Saturn and the Moon in Pisces plays into this energy as it squares Saturn and semi-squares Mars. We may want to resolve a frustrating problem now but could be too impatient to make satisfying progress. We should watch for applying too rigid standards now. We can feel thwarted, blocked, or slowed down, and enthusiasm is likely to wane as a result. Delays are possible but might lead to important edits and adjustments.
NOVEMBER 10
The Pisces Moon harmonizes with the Sun in Scorpio early today, promoting good instincts and increasing our powers of perception and empathy. Inner harmony and balance stimulate cooperation. We tend to express ourselves more genuinely when the Sun and Moon are in harmony. The Moon continues to transit Pisces before entering pioneering Aries at 8:46 PM EST. Boundaries and walls come down with the Pisces Moon, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It’s a time when details are overlooked, and feelings defy description. We instinctively start a new cycle when the Moon enters the first sign of the zodiac, Aries, at 8:46 PM. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive during this short Moon sign cycle.
A void of course Moon occurs from 6:18 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries at 8:46 PM EST.
NOVEMBER 11
The Moon is in Aries, and we are ready to get something started! A Mercury-Jupiter semi-square this morning might point to many talks that don’t lead anywhere substantial, however. We might experience information overload, and we are not seeing all the details — perhaps jumping to conclusions. Monotonous mental tasks and routines are harder to take under this influence, and our minds are restless. Tonight, Venus moves into the sign of Capricorn, where it will stay until December 7th. Venus in Capricorn is a cycle in which security and stability in our relationships are paramount. We are more cautious with our emotions and feelings. We might also be somewhat skeptical of others’ expressions of affection, sensing or imagining an ulterior motive.
NOVEMBER 12
Mercury enters Sagittarius today, and our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. Until December 2nd, ideals are sought, our thinking is optimistic, and our faith increases. We seek out more meaning and something to believe in. We’re especially concerned about what’s just and fair. However, we are not always very precise under this influence. With a Sun-Chiron trine today, an opportunity to find a sense of purpose or a “mission” can arise now, increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences as well as through people around us is strong. Problem solving is favored under this influence. Even so, a quincunx between the Sun and Uranus comes into range tonight and can point to feeling a little off-center due to surprise circumstances or those things that we can’t control. Changes in life’s circumstances can require an adjustment to our plans. A semi-square between Mercury and Pluto is made even stronger as Mercury and Pluto are also parallel. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. The Moon continues its transit of Aries until 9:25 PM EST when it enters earthy Taurus.
A void of course Moon occurs from 7:46 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Uranus), until the Moon enters Taurus at 9:25 PM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don’t want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence–even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It’s a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We’re motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and “stop to smell the roses”. Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
This Week’s Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends)
Sun in Scorpio Who owes what, who owns what, and who decides these things: these are some of the major issues for you at the dawn of the cycle that now begins in your life. The only thing we really own is our consciousness; the only master who is never overthrown is oneself. These are lessons best learned early in this cycle. Master them, and you master everything. Dodge these issues, and the great strength that could be yours will remain just out of reach. Understanding inner motivations, seeing through to the core: that’s your real path of power and enlightenment now.
Mercury in Scorpio A pronounced curiosity about taboos and mysteries plays a greater part in your life now. Your mind is on cutting through the nonessentials and penetrating to the core is where your mind is at now; you want to know who (or what) pulls the strings. Sex, taxes, investments, and others of life’s most compelling phenomena may captivate your interest more than ever before.
Mercury in Sagittarius A time of expanding your mental horizons is at hand. Religion, philosophy, law, and education are some of the things that may have special importance for you now. Being in touch with faraway people and places satisfies an intellectual yearning – curiosity will take you anywhere and maybe everywhere.
Mars in Capricorn With this new cycle taking hold in your life now, taking charge and being in control become more important issues for you. You want to get things organized, and you have the initiative to do it. This is a time of ambition and responsibility, a time to keep your cool and pace yourself. Working hard is smart, but working smart is better.
Mars in Aquarius The reformer, the inventor, the engineer, the revolutionary – these are important archetypes for you as a new cycle gets underway in your life. They are icons of the ambitions that stir you at a time like this. Independence, freedom from past patterns, and a daring readiness to innovate: such are the paths of achievement for you now.
Jupiter in Libra The ties that bind, the harmonious integration of opposites, the perfect balance: these are the keys to your greatest opportunities now. Marriage and other close personal relationships tend to offer bright prospects, and you have a deep yearning to experience the fulfillment they can bring.
Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.” Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
