The LAST QUARTER MOON occurred on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 2:33 PM EST. On Saturday afternoon, the Last Quarter Moon occurred when the Sun in early Pisces formed a square with the Moon in early Sagittarius. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon (on February 26th), when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?
This phase of the Moon occurred at 0 degrees and 20 minutes of Sagittarius square the Sun at 0 degrees and 20 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 2 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) and 28 to 30 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
Next week, a New Moon Solar Eclipse will occur in Pisces on February 26th, 2017, at 9:58 AM EST.

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Pisces; Mercury is in Aquarius until the 25th, when it enters Pisces; Venus is in Aries; Mars is in Aries.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
Mercury is in Aquarius from February 7-25. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.
Mercury is in Pisces from February 25-March 13. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
Venus is in Aries from February 3-April 2 and then April 28-June 6. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now. Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
Mars is in Aries from January 28-March 9. Mars feels at home in one of the signs that it rules, Aries, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident. Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.
Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015, to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius here.
Jupiter entered Libra on September 9th, 2016, and will transit Libra until October 10, 2017. Read about Jupiter in Libra here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Aries from February 3-April 2 and then April 28-June 6. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. This week: Venus forms fewer aspects than usual this week. Its movement is apparently slower as it moves closer to its retrograde cycle (Venus will be retrograde in Aries and Pisces from March 4-April 15). A semi-square between Mercury and Venus on Thursday can point to sensitivity to what’s expressed, and it can be difficult communicating or understanding our affections. Misunderstandings can result.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Venus parallel Uranus February 17-18. We embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit. Peculiar, sudden, or avant garde attractions. This is an exciting but unstable energy. Friendship in love relationships becomes more important.
Venus semi-square Mercury February 23. Communications between lovers may feel superficial or unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. We may be especially sensitive to what’s being communicated now.
Venus parallel Mars March 10-11. Favors romantic and sexual relationships. Intense passions.
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, February 20th, from 6:38 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Saturn), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Tuesday, February 21st, at 2:08 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, February 22nd, from 10:24 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, Thursday, February 23rd, at 12:18 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, February 25th, from 1:12 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Pisces at 7:25 PM EST.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week — a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs on Monday, the 20th, from approximately 1:14 AM to 6:35 PM EST, while the Moon is in Sagittarius. Another window occurs from Thursday, the 23rd, at approximately 12:20 PM EST, to Saturday, the 25th, at approximately 1:10 PM EST, while the Moon is in Aquarius. Keep in mind, however, that this is a week before the Solar Eclipse and judgment may be off.

Notes on aspects this week:
Mercury in Aquarius plays into an ongoing Jupiter-Saturn-Uranus configuration through sextiles and trines this week, and we can have especially innovative ideas and make exciting plans for the future. We can talk through our desire for freedom, negotiate and plan regarding our ideas and plans, and express ourselves well. We are making good use of the resources and tools we have and communicating effectively. This is a good time for tempering our enthusiasm with practical yet innovative thinking. Friends and networks can be helpful.
Mars forms a square with Pluto and the Sun gets in between this challenging aspect on the 21-22, however, which can really heat things up. Frustrations mount and we can feel caught in between others’ dilemmas or confined by our own.
This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury sextile Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue”. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding.
Sun semi-square Mars. Circumstances spur us into action. Aggressiveness and conflicts are possible now. As long as we channel the excess energy constructively, instead of wasting our time arguing, we can accomplish much. We may have “spring fever” now, no matter what the season! We could find ourselves driven by a restless desire to do something; but without a well-defined goal, we tend towards impulsive actions and get ourselves into needless arguments.
Mercury trine Jupiter. Looking for meaning in mundane affairs, positive thinking, insights, cooperation–these are themes of this influence. Our ideas are big and our intentions noble. We might receive good news or offers now. We prefer to think about the big picture rather than becoming bogged down with details. This transit favors short trips, writing, teaching, studying, submitting applications and forms, accurate diagnoses and observations (all things equal).
Sun semi-square Pluto. A tendency to want to control our lives through some form of manipulation is strong during this influence. Meeting with obstacles in our paths, however, can force us into the position of using all of our resources to fight back, and we can discover resources we never knew we had in the process.
Mars square Pluto. Our desires are intense and difficult to satisfy under this influence. A tendency to bully and confront may dominate. Efforts to make changes could be thwarted, or power struggles emerge. The trick is to remain flexible and to develop strategies for achieving our goals. The desire to get the upper hand is strong, but it’s unlikely to happen under this influence. It would be wise to observe whatever powerful feelings that confrontations or conflicts arouse under this influence, as this transit has a way of pulling out suppressed matter, or emotional “slush”. Passions run high, and so does sexual energy.
Mercury sextile Saturn. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now will have tangible results in the future.
Mercury semi-square Venus. Difficulties in social or romantic communication are possible today. On the other hand, we may make more efforts to be polite and to communicate. Hypersensitivity, and lack of mental discipline. Our minds wander.
Sun semi-square Uranus. During this transit, we feel the need for action, but if we don’t know where we’re headed, we might take the wrong turn. Unexpected changes in plans or events can test our patience, and we might feel a bit out of control. However, they could stimulate us to try new approaches and they certainly act to cut boredom. This transit could offer us the drive to do something new, but avoid making hasty major decisions for the time being.
Sun sesquiquadrate Jupiter. We may feel vague restlessness and discontent with life as it is. We want more, but perhaps too much. Overestimation, wastefulness, and exaggeration. Elevated moods, but unstable ones, as they may not be based on reality.

What’s In Store By the Stars – Daily Astrology Trends
(as featured on our site’s main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)
FEBRUARY 19
The Moon is in Sagittarius all day, and we are both curious and spontaneous. We are attracted to new situations of conquest or adventure, and we require less prompting than usual to get moving and learning. Bored with the mundane, anything that breaks the routine is appealing now. The Moon’s trine to Venus in Aries this morning points to pleasant activities and interactions with others, as well as expressing our enthusiasm and affection easily. With the Moon forming a square to Neptune midday, we may be wrestling with our expectations, however. This is a good time to dream up big ideas, but putting them into motion should probably wait. We are optimistic, helpful, and eager to share words of wisdom today.
FEBRUARY 20
The Moon in Sagittarius aligns with Saturn and harmonizes with Mars, Mercury, Uranus, and Jupiter. We have many ideas and projects going now, and if we can decide on any one or two, we’re both enthusiastic and ready to put in the effort. Mercury’s sextile to Uranus today promotes progressive, innovative thinking and conversing. Group activities and meetings can go well. We can have unexpected insights now. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding. A Sun-Mars semi-square comes into influence today, however, and we may feel impatient or restless if we have unfinished business. This influence does better when we have a well-defined goal, but we may want to reach that goal more quickly than is currently possible.
A void of course Moon occurs from 6:38 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Saturn), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Tuesday, February 21st, at 2:08 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 21
The Sun gets in between an applying Mars-Pluto square today, as it forms a semi-square to each planet. This can feel particularly tense – we crave a sense of control over events, relationships, and circumstances, and become frustrated at any sign that we don’t have it. There may be arguments, standstills, and power games now. Meeting with obstacles in our paths, however, can force us into the position of using all of our resources to fight back, and we can discover resources we never knew we had in the process. A trine between Mercury and Jupiter today may help lighten the load a little by pulling ourselves out of obsessive thinking. This can happen through conversations, a sense of hope or faith in the future, and big-picture thinking. We are seeking out a little more meaning to our projects and experiences.
The void Moon ends when the Moon enters Capricorn at 2:08 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 22
The Mars-Pluto square perfects early today, and our desires are intense and difficult to satisfy. A tendency to bully, confront, or provoke might dominate. Efforts to make changes could be thwarted, or power struggles emerge. Attempts to gain control and power are fruitless. It would be wise to observe and learn from whatever powerful feelings arise from confrontations or conflicts now, as this transit has a way of pulling out suppressed matter, or emotional “slush.” The Moon’s alignment with Pluto and square to Mars reinforce these themes and extend them to the afternoon. The Moon also gets in between the Jupiter-Uranus opposition, stimulating restlessness and fears of confinement or repression. A potentially tense day! However, this can also be a time for formulating new plans and strategies once we’re calm enough to do so.
A void of course Moon occurs from 10:24 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aquarius the next day, Thursday, February 23rd, at 12:18 PM EST.
FEBRUARY 23
The Moon continues its transit of Capricorn until 12:18 PM EST, after which it’s in Aquarius, and we’re less focused on individual success and performance and more concerned with team effort. Emotional satisfaction comes from a strong sense of independence and equality. A sextile between Mercury and Saturn today helps to ground us after a couple of days of intensity. Generally speaking, it’s a good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to make preparations. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now is likely to yield tangible results in the future. We begin to rely on more traditional methods and structures to accomplish our tasks. While the Mercury-Saturn influence encourages a systematic, logical approach to our work and thinking processes, a Mercury-Venus semi-square points to some sensitivity to one another’s communications. There is a tendency to misunderstand each other – even when we are in agreement, we perceive otherwise.
The void Moon ends when the Moon enters Aquarius at 12:18 PM EST.
FEBRUARY 24
The Moon is in Aquarius all day. While it transits Aquarius, it will harmonize with Venus (today), and then Mars, Uranus, Jupiter, Saturn (tomorrow), opening up many opportunities to connect, learn, and grow, and multiple channels for expressing our feelings. We thrive on intellectual stimulation, change, and unusual or unconventional experiences today, and with the Sun and Uranus about to form a semi-square aspect (exact early tomorrow), there can be tension or restless feelings if we’re following the usual routine. If we’re resisting change, then we can feel particular pressure as changes seem to be thrust upon us. Interrupted plans can force us to try new approaches. Be willing to experiment and explore for best results now.
FEBRUARY 25
The Sun challenges Jupiter and Uranus, which are applying to an opposition, exact on March 2nd. We’re likely to feel quite a bit of tension if we feel confined or restrained. We can be nudged towards trying new methods, but decisions made now may be too hasty. If we keep overestimation and wastefulness in check, our progressive attitude can lead us on a path of fresh and exciting opportunities. Mercury enters Pisces today where it will transit until March 13th, and our thought processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our ideas and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information during this cycle. The Moon is Balsamic today with a New Moon/Solar Eclipse occurring tomorrow, making it most appropriate to wind down and let go rather than begin anew.
A void of course Moon occurs from 1:12 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Pisces at 7:25 PM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don’t want to plan ahead, and prefer to “wing it”.
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve “winging it”, travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don’t want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence–even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It’s a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
This Week’s Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends)
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn’t cut it anymore: it’s the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high-tech.
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life – lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new – let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far … sometimes in harm’s way, if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Libra The ties that bind, the harmonious integration of opposites, the perfect balance: these are the keys to your greatest opportunities now. Marriage and other close personal relationships tend to offer bright prospects, and you have a deep yearning to experience the fulfillment they can bring.
Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.” Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
