The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 2:33 PM EST. On Saturday afternoon, the Last Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in early Pisces forms a square with the Moon in early Sagittarius. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon (on February 26th), when something new is born once again. Next week’s New Moon is a Solar Eclipse in Pisces.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?
This phase of the Moon occurs at 0 degrees and 20 minutes of Sagittarius square the Sun at 0 degrees and 20 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 2 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) and 28 to 30 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
A FULL MOON LUNAR ECLIPSE occurred on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 11:19 PM EST. On Friday night, a Full Moon occurred, when the Sun in Aquarius formed an opposition with the Moon in Leo. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time – a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
This Full Moon is especially potent, as it is a Lunar Eclipse. Lunar eclipses are relationship-oriented. The “crisis” that these eclipses tend to elicit is a crisis of lack – a time when we suddenly recognize a great need or want. The impact of the crisis can act to sever a relationship – it’s possible. But it can also bring two people together with a sudden awareness of a great need for each other. Although Lunar eclipses are more relationship-oriented than Solar eclipses, they are not always about relationships between two people. They can trigger awareness of need in other areas of our lives, such as our relationship to work, to our health and bodies, and so forth. This is a time when matters come to light – things that have been brewing under the surface.
This Lunar Eclipse presses us to look more closely at our needs, lacks, and wants in our lives. The Leo-Aquarius polarity deals with the balance between the personal (Leo) and the impersonal (Aquarius). The energy of Leo is creative self-expression and the boost to the individual ego that we receive through pleasure and romance, while Aquarius rules the group, more impersonal friendships, and objectivity. This Full Moon urges us to strike a balance between romance and friendship, and between expressing ourselves in personal and impersonal ways. The Leo Moon is proud and intensely individual—not content with simply being just one of the team. The Aquarius Sun, while individualistic as well, values independence and the “team.” The Full Moon illuminates this conflict. Some sort of crisis (which can be a crisis of consciousness) or sudden awareness of a lack in our lives provides us with a golden opportunity to explore our emotional needs within the context of the house polarity where the eclipse occurs in our natal charts. Relationships may be challenged, broken, or strengthened dramatically at this time. Our discovery is emotionally charged and dramatic. Epiphanies are likely at this time as we become acutely aware of our lack. This understanding can propel us into positive action.
Eclipses are tied to changing circumstances. However, we are usually the ones to precipitate or to attract changes because our “inner guides” know that we need it. Human beings are progressive by nature, and although we might stay in situations that are making us miserable for longer than we should, deep down inside we know that change is necessary for growth.
With the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives. However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as emotions burst forth into our consciousness. It’s time to express ourselves and to let things out of our systems. Of course, we might want to exercise some care while doing so, knowing that what is coming out of us is new and not particularly rational as yet. Full Moons are about exposing or illuminating issues that are already there, but that have not yet been dealt with.
When a Full Moon occurs, we can suddenly burst forth with proclamations and outpourings that seem fresh and new, simply because they are not yet rationalized. A Lunar eclipse is a more potent Full Moon, and its effects tend to last longer. The effects of a Lunar eclipse last approximately six months.
Full Moons and Lunar Eclipses bring issues in our lives to fulfillment. Our emotions are heightened, and there is often some sort of drama involved with the house, sign, and any contacted planets activated by the Full Moon. Look at 22-23 degrees of Leo/Aquarius in your own chart. This Lunar Eclipse gives us a cosmic push to make needed changes in our lives. The areas of life activated by the eclipse may see dramatic turns, after which the path is clear to move forward.
Note that whatever “happens” at this time is nothing truly new. The issues have been brewing inside of us, and emotions have been building. Something comes to light at the time of the Full Moon, and if we get in touch with our emotions, we can get a better idea of what needs to change, or what needs to go. Read more about the Lunar Eclipse here.
This phase of the Moon occurred at 22 degrees and 28 minutes of Leo opposite the Sun at 22 degrees and 28 minutes of Aquarius, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 17 to 27 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

Feb 10, 2017, 7:33 PM Sun Opposition Moon (Full Moon)

Feb 26, 2017, 9:58 AM Sun Conjunct Moon (New Moon)
(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Aquarius until the 18th, after which the Sun is in Pisces; Mercury is in Aquarius; Venus is in Aries; Mars is in Aries.
The Sun is in Aquarius from January 19-February 18. During this cycle, we are motivated by our hunger for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. We become more aware of what is outdated in our lives, and we strive to find new perspectives and new ways to do things. The class distinctions, structure, and order that Capricorn finds appealing now seem to be too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us. We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
Mercury is in Aquarius from February 7-25. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.
Venus is in Aries from February 3-April 2 and then April 28-June 6. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now. Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
Mars is in Aries from January 28-March 9. Mars feels at home in one of the signs that it rules, Aries, and therefore its power is boosted. Our energy is spontaneous, forward-looking, and even courageous under this influence. Our competitive spirit is well-developed, and our goal is to win! We are active, single-minded, and confident. Our actions are direct–we instinctively find the fastest way to get from point A to point B. The shadow side of Mars in Aries is a tendency to be impatient, arrogant, impulsive, short-lived, unreflective, and self-centered.
Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015, to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius here.
Jupiter entered Libra on September 9th and will transit Libra until October 10, 2017. Read about Jupiter in Libra here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
This week: Venus forms fewer aspects than usual this week. Its movement is apparently slower as it moves closer to its retrograde cycle (Venus will be retrograde in Aries and Pisces from March 4-April 15). Venus forms a parallel to Uranus on Friday and Saturday, and we are drawn to unusual or non-traditional pleasures, art, people, and situations.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Venus sextile Mercury February 10. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners. Romantic overtures, expressions of love and affection, making new social contacts. This is a time when promises, pledges, and clarifications (usually very positive!) are made in love relationships.
Venus parallel Uranus February 17-18. We embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit. Peculiar, sudden, or avant garde attractions. This is an exciting but unstable energy. Friendship in love relationships becomes more important.
Venus semi-square Mercury February 23. Communications between lovers may feel superficial or unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. We may be especially sensitive to what’s being communicated now.
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, February 13th, from 7:38 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Libra at 3:44 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, February 15th, from 8:55 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to the Sun), until the Moon enters Scorpio the next day, Thursday, February 16th, at 1:42 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Friday, February 17th, from 2:39 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Sagittarius the next day, Saturday, February 18th, at 1:53 PM EST.

Notes on aspects this week:
The month of February features more than usual harmonious aspects, although less so this week. A few awkward aspects suggest a time of adjustments more than apparent growth. Mercury gets in between a Saturn-Chiron square from Sunday to Tuesday which can lead to frustrating indecision. We can feel stuck between going the traditional route and breaking out of the usual patterns of thinking and communicating, and we lack the confidence to go hard in either direction. A Jupiter-Chiron quincunx adds more uncertainty to the mix. If we are not self-aware, we might push impractical ideas and projects ahead, only to face obstacles. This is a better time for double-checking facts and learning more about what we’re doing before advancing.
On Monday and Tuesday, however, conservative and moderate moves benefit us with the Sun’s sextile to Saturn. This applies in particular to social relationships, networking, legal matters, education, and sharing ideas. Thursday’s Mercury-Mars sextile once again ties together Aries and Aquarius energies in pleasing ways. We may be feeling particularly confident and enthusiastic about our ideas, and we want to put plans into action. We are in between eclipses this week, making it not ideal for new beginnings, in general.
This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury semi-square Chiron. Communications may be careless, hurtful or perceived as hurtful under this influence. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. There may be impatience with rules, worry or guilty feelings, and conflicting viewpoints now.
Sun sextile Saturn. We feel grounded and stable. It’s easy to stick to a specific task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it’s steady. We are taking into account practical considerations and we are especially aware of the element of time. We are more able to discipline ourselves and put our egos aside in order to get the job done.
Mercury semi-square Saturn. Red tape, re-doing tasks we thought we had finished, problems getting from point A to point B, delays in communication, negative thinking, hyper-sensitivity and criticism–these are all potentials now. The energy is best used for focusing on fixing errors rather than harping on how irritating they are!
Jupiter quincunx Chiron. There can be a questioning of our goals, or possibly our beliefs and faith, as doubt and uncertainty are likely now. We may feel a little lost and susceptible to influence. If we are not self-aware, we might push impractical ideas and projects ahead, only to face obstacles. Circumstances are such that we need to make adjustments to our plans and goals. We may need to tame expectations of ourselves and of others if they are unreasonably high.
Mercury sextile Mars. Mental alertness, enthusiasm, and energetic communications figure now. Quick decisions can be made. We are productive and take “busy-ness” in stride. We are alert and aware, and can easily turn ideas into workable projects.

What’s In Store By the Stars – Daily Astrology Trends
(as featured on our site’s main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)
FEBRUARY 12
Mercury forms a semi-square with Chiron this morning, and we can particularly sensitive about communications. Communications may be careless, hurtful or perceived as hurtful under this influence. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words, and there may be impatience with rules, worry or guilty feelings, and conflicting viewpoints to contend with now. We don’t have enough faith or confidence in our choices to make effective decisions at the moment, but this gives us a chance to learn more about areas where we feel uninformed. The Moon is in Virgo all day, harmonizing with Pluto this evening. We want to be useful and productive, and focusing on details is our route to making headway. We are inclined to be analytical, critical, and technical under a Virgo Moon.
FEBRUARY 13
The Moon is in Virgo until 3:44 PM. Its square to Saturn this morning can point to some feelings of being overwhelmed or discouraged. While there is some tendency to be critical or nitpicky if we’re not feeling directed and confident, there is good energy for making progress with a concerted effort as the Sun and Saturn move towards a sextile, exact very early tomorrow. We feel grounded and stable. It’s easy to stick to a particular task and make headway. Productivity may be slow, but it’s steady. We are more able to discipline ourselves and put our egos aside to get the job done. This transit can teach us that humbling ourselves to accept constructive criticism and advice — or to recognize areas that need strengthening — can be beneficial.
A void of course Moon occurs from 7:38 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Libra at 3:44 PM EST.
FEBRUARY 14
Jupiter and Chiron form a quincunx today – an aspect that first became exact in December and will recur on September 23rd (it’s happening very close to the Jupiter-Uranus opposition). With this longer-term aspect, there can be a questioning of our goals, or possibly our beliefs and faith, as doubt and uncertainty creep in. We may feel a little lost and susceptible to influence. If we are not self-aware, we might push impractical ideas and projects ahead, only to face obstacles. Circumstances are such that we need to make adjustments to our plans and goals. We may need to tame expectations of ourselves and others if they are unreasonably high. We might also deal with insecurities that are preventing us from pursuing our goals freely and confidently. The Moon is in relationship-focused Libra all day, and we seek out a balance. However, there can be some trial and error getting to the point of harmony, particularly with the Moon’s opposition to Mars in Aries later today.
FEBRUARY 15
While the Libra Moon forms a square to Pluto this morning, stimulating some tension if we don’t feel in control of our business or relationships, it aligns with Jupiter midday, forms a sextile with Saturn late afternoon, and forms a trine with the Sun this evening. We’re far more successful at bringing balance and harmony to our lives today. Emotional relief is possible now. We move towards a Mercury-Mars sextile as the day progresses, and we easily become fired up and enthusiastic about our ideas and projects. We are more confident than usual about our intellectual powers. We’re alert and aware under this influence. We’re ready to make quick decisions. Our communications may be particularly spirited and frank. We can quickly turn ideas into workable projects.
A void of course Moon occurs from 8:55 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to the Sun), until the Moon enters Scorpio the next day, Thursday, February 16th, at 1:42 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 16
Mercury forms a sextile with Mars today, and mental alertness, enthusiasm, and energetic communications figure strongly now. Quick decisions and assessments may be made. We are ready to see and act on opportunities. Communications may be frank or hurried, but also refreshingly to the point. The Moon transits Scorpio from 1:42 AM EST, and we can be determined. Emotional needs are intense and demanding. We can be focused on making deep, lasting changes that empower us under the influence of a Scorpio Moon.
The void Moon ends when the Moon enters Scorpio at 1:42 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 17
The Moon continues its transit of Scorpio all day, drawing our attention to complexities, intangibles, and mysteries. The Scorpio Moon forms a square with Mercury this morning, and what feels right clashes with logic for the time being. What we communicate may be a misrepresentation of our true feelings. It’s difficult to be objective at present, as much as we’d like to be. This afternoon, the Moon forms a sextile with Scorpio’s ruling planet, Pluto, boosting our self-confidence and resourcefulness. We can experience exciting but possibly fleeting attractions today as Venus and Uranus move towards a parallel. There can be spontaneous meetings and forward movement in our relationships. We have good instincts for future trends.
A void of course Moon occurs from 2:39 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Sagittarius the next day, Saturday, February 18th, at 1:53 PM EST.
FEBRUARY 18
The Sun enters Pisces this morning, where it will transit until March 20th. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings and a sense of universal correlations. We are less motivated to take action than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. On the shadow side, there can be self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness. The Moon is in Scorpio until 1:53 PM EST, after which it transits fiery, truth-seeking Sagittarius. The Last Quarter Moon occurs this afternoon when the Sun in early Pisces forms a square with the Moon in early Sagittarius. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week‘s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t. This is in preparation for next week’s New Moon/Solar Eclipse (on February 26th), when something new is born once again. It’s not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon.
The void Moon ends when the Moon enters Sagittarius at 1:53 PM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others’ approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it’s passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won’t work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it’s an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don’t want to plan ahead, and prefer to “wing it”.
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve “winging it”, travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
This Week’s Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends)
Sun in Aquarius This is a time when your path of self-development and expression becomes more and more unusual – setting you apart from the crowd and from all that is traditional. The new, the futuristic, the high-tech are the hallmarks of your lifestyle as the cycle gets underway. Ideas and technologies that change the way people live – not just one person, but many – are a major new focus in your life. Involvement with ideals and idealistic groups enhances your sense of purpose and mission.
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn’t cut it anymore: it’s the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high-tech.
Mars in Aries Fresh challenges and initiatives light your fires now, as a new cycle begins in your life – lots of energy, a powerful urge to be first or come out on top. Away with the old and on to the new – let no one and nothing stand between you and your objective! Headstrong impulses and rash courage can take you far … sometimes in harm’s way, if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Libra The ties that bind, the harmonious integration of opposites, the perfect balance: these are the keys to your greatest opportunities now. Marriage and other close personal relationships tend to offer bright prospects, and you have a deep yearning to experience the fulfillment they can bring.
Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.” Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
