The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Saturday, September 21st, 2019, at 10:41 PM EDT.
On Saturday night, the Last Quarter Moon occurs as the Sun in Virgo forms a square with the Moon in Gemini. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness.
After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did we have last week? What did they mean to us? What can be done now?
This phase of the Moon occurs at 28 degrees and 49 minutes of Gemini, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 27 to 30 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) and 0 to 1 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Virgo; Mercury is in Libra; Venus is in Libra; Mars is in Virgo.
The Sun is in Virgo from August 23-September 23. Our focus shifts to the pieces of the puzzle–the little details of our lives. It is now time to take care of practical concerns. Tending to the details of everyday life may not sound like loads of fun, but it can certainly free us from unnecessary stress that results from “collecting” odds and ends of unfinished business. This is an ideal time to get organized, to do detail work, and to improve communications on the job.
Mercury is in Libra from September 14-October 3. A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts – on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.
Venus is in Libra from September 14-October 8. As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty – these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.
Mars is in Virgo from August 18-October 4. In Virgo, Mars is somewhat of a workhorse. We have a passion for details, as well as a need to do the right thing at just the right time under this influence. The satisfaction of a job well done is one of your greatest incentives now. We are more precise and concerned about performance.
Jupiter entered Sagittarius on November 8th, 2018, and transits the sign until December 2nd, 2019. Read more about the Jupiter in Sagittarius transit.
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Libra from September 14 to October 8, 2019. Venus rules Libra and thus is dignified in the sign. Venus feels right “at home” in Libra, where she seeks to balance and harmonize. With Venus in Libra, we can easily be in love with love. We are more comfortable with a close partner with whom we can seek to have a balanced relationship. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want. Although Venus in Libra virtually lives for relationships, there is an air of cool detachment to this energy. We are very obliging with others–quite willing to negotiate and compromise. We can be especially idealistic about love. We prefer things to be done the “right” way, and we’re turned off by aggressive or uncouth behavior. The shadow side of this position is dependence, inconsistency, and superficiality. In an attempt to avoid unpleasant situations, we could easily gloss over deeper issues at play in our relationships. It’s probably best to avoid the trap of acquiescing to our partners but privately resenting the fact or thinking ourselves martyrs for doing so!
This week: On Sunday, we are inclined to question our allegiances and analyze our feelings or relationships. On Tuesday to Thursday, we can be commitment-phobic. Our interactions can open up soft spots or can trigger sensitive issues.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Libra September 14-October 8. As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on a greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty – these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.
Venus conjunct Mercury September 12-13. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners.
Venus contra-parallel Mercury September 15. Interactions bring up questions. We tend to analyze our feelings and relationships.
Venus opposition Chiron September 17. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves. Our relationships may open up some inner wound.
Venus quincunx Uranus September 18-19. Impulsive spending, peculiar attractions, fear of commitment, freedom vs. intimacy issues. We might question whether we need more excitement in our relationships, or whether we need freedom from them, yet we don’t feel confident enough to rock the boat.
Venus contra-parallel Mars September 23. Passions are stimulated and intense. There’s a fine line between love and hate. Competitiveness. Questions are raised or ultimatums made.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, September 16th, from 12:02 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Taurus the next day, Tuesday, September 17th, at 6:31 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, September 19th, from 9:57 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to the Sun), until the Moon enters Gemini at 4:58 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, September 21st, from 10:41 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Sunday, September 22nd, at 12:50 AM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week and is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Tuesday, September 17th, at approximately 6:35 AM EDT, until Thursday, September 19th, at approximately 9:55 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Taurus.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury opposition Chiron. Misunderstandings in communications that occur now stem from taking things too personally. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now. Doubting our ability to make a clear cut decision comes from a feeling that opposing viewpoints hold the same weight, and thus an inability to choose sides. There can be a sense of shooting ourselves in the foot when we present our ideas or opinions, and a feeling of misrepresenting ourselves when we communicate can figure strongly now.
Venus opposition Chiron. Disappointments in love relationships can occur now as we focus on the differences and weaknesses rather than the strong points. We are more aware, and possibly resentful of, imbalances in our relationships. We are less open to romantic feelings and more insecure about whether our affections will be returned.
Mercury quincunx Uranus. It is difficult to get a point across without rubbing people the wrong way or misrepresenting ourselves. Uncertainty reigns today. Avoid making hasty decisions that you will later regret. Impulsiveness, disorganization, unreceptive to practical advice and/or your ideas are not well-received.
Venus quincunx Uranus. Impulsive spending, peculiar attractions, fear of commitment, and freedom vs. intimacy issues may be themes now. We might question whether we need more excitement in our relationships (or leisure activities), or whether we need freedom from them, yet we don’t feel confident enough to rock the boat.
Mars trine Pluto. This is a powerful aspect that helps us to focus on our goals, to take decisive action, and to go after what we want without stepping on others’ toes. We are willing to explore alternatives rather than simply relying on the tried and true. We are not afraid of a challenge and are willing to attempt to overcome obstacles. This is a strong energy for reworking or overhauling a project.
Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus. A tendency to take risks, to feel restless, to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences.
Jupiter square Neptune. We may be misled easily under this influence–by others, or by our own unrealistic or inflated expectations. An inability to focus on important and realistic details, some disorganization, and extravagance or exaggeration are indicated. Routine seems to be particularly unsatisfying now. This is a time when we easily take a detour from a practical path. It can also be a time when we are disillusioned by something (or someone). Spiritual inspiration is a potential.

SEPTEMBER 15
The Moon is in Aries all day. Aries is a brave and direct sign, and with the Moon here, we can be emotionally impulsive. The Moon forms a square to Saturn, however, and we may face some blocks, or there could be some level of denial. The Moon’s square to Saturn may have the effect of spiritually or materially grounding us. Even so, it can feel like a bit of a downer as we’re reminded to harness our energy and channel some of it into productive activities. We want to start fresh, and we’re not as interested in the past as we are in what will work for us today and going forward.
SEPTEMBER 16
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Aries, forming a square to Pluto towards midday. We’re seeking more room for spontaneity, innovation, and independent action. It’s a time of the month for recognizing the need to take the lead or take charge of our lives in some manner. Even so, our ambitions are large, and we can have a hard time fitting everything in today. Mercury opposes Chiron, and we may interpret feedback as criticism. Watch for misrepresentation. As we focus on the differences and weaknesses rather than the strong points, we may give too much weight to matters that don’t deserve such attention.
The void Moon occurs from 12:02 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Pluto), until the Moon enters Taurus the next day, Tuesday, September 17th, at 6:31 AM EDT.
SEPTEMBER 17
The Moon continues its transit of assertive Aries until 6:30 AM EDT, after which the Moon transits tenacious Taurus. With Venus opposite Chiron today, disappointments in love relationships can occur as we focus on the differences and weaknesses rather than the strong points. Temporarily, we can be less confident about our relationships, social life, or social skills. We are more aware and possibly resentful of imbalances in our relationships. As such, we’re not particularly open to romantic feelings, and we can be more insecure about whether our affections will be returned. Mercury’s quincunx to Uranus doesn’t help with decisiveness and can leave us feeling a little unsettled mentally. It can be a challenge to gain others’ understanding today.
The void Moon continues until 6:31 AM EDT when the Moon enters Taurus.
SEPTEMBER 18
Saturn stations as it turns direct today after retrograde motion since April 29th. This shift comes as a potent reminder to take care of our responsibilities and bring our goals down to earth this week. With it, our obligations, and perhaps our limitations, are magnified. Gradually going forward, our long-term goals and plans become more explicit. The Moon is in steady Taurus all day. This Moon transit encourages us to enjoy ourselves and appreciate what we have going for us. There can be a slowing down and stabilizing of our feelings. Earthy activities and sensual pleasures appeal now more than usual, and we find a sense of peace and contentment with that which is familiar and reliable. Even so, the Moon harmonizes with Pluto and Mars as these two bodies head toward a harmonious trine, exact tomorrow morning. We can be feeling determined and ready to make long-lasting changes as the day advances.
SEPTEMBER 19
While a Venus-Uranus quincunx suggests some wavering this morning, we have great energy with us for focusing on what truly matters to us today as Mars forms a trine to Pluto. We are in a good position for harnessing the power of desire and make it work for us. We gain determination and a stronger feeling of purpose now. We are willing to explore alternatives rather than merely relying on the tried and true. We are not afraid of a challenge and are ready to overcome obstacles. This is excellent energy for reworking or overhauling a project. The Moon continues to transit Taurus until 4:58 PM EDT when it enters Gemini. The Gemini Moon is curious and connected. Also as the day advances, a Mars-Uranus dynamic aspect comes into play and points to some tension or excitement. We may be itching for a change, but not entirely sure where to start.
The Moon is void from 9:57 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to the Sun), until the Moon enters Gemini at 4:58 PM EDT.
SEPTEMBER 20
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Gemini, keeping us on our toes mentally. The Gemini Moon is curious, mental, and sometimes nervous. Its energy is light, and its trines to Mercury and Venus help connect us in pleasant ways. The Moon encourages us to diversify, put our feelers out, and pick up new ideas or tips. We’re more interactive and versatile, although somewhat prone to overdo as the day advances and the Moon approaches an opposition to Jupiter. As well, Jupiter and Neptune are approaching a square aspect, and something can feel left up in the air. It may be a cue that we need more inspiration. A Sun-Vesta trine helps ground us. The need to dedicate ourselves to a project or cause is strong now.
SEPTEMBER 21
Jupiter forms a square to Neptune today for the third and final time in a set that first perfected in January. This transit suggests a struggle with our expectations, faith, and dreams. We may be misled easily under this influence, whether by others or by our own unrealistic or inflated expectations. We may need to deal with the consequences of disorganization, extravagance, neglect, or exaggeration. The tendency for restlessness magnifies, and routine seems to be particularly unsatisfying now. This is a time when we easily take a detour from a practical path. It can also be a time when we are disillusioned by something (or someone). We need to watch for a tendency to evade and avoid things, as well as for writing ourselves new beliefs or philosophies that justify this avoidance. There can be a lot of wandering, meandering, and lack of groundedness happening with this influence, some of which can be helpful in moderation. We might have troubles setting boundaries for ourselves, however. There is a need to come down to earth from time to time. Some routines, discipline, regularity, and rhythms should be enforced to counteract this tendency. Spiritual inspiration is a potential as we shed false beliefs, expectations, and paths, however. Resolutions for all of these matters may arrive now. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Gemini, and the Last Quarter Moon occurs tonight as the Moon forms a square with the Sun in Virgo. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness. We become aware of what’s working for us and what isn’t in preparation for next week’s New Moon when something new is born. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes descent into unconsciousness. It’s better to wind down and finish up details or tie up loose ends.
The Moon is void from 10:41 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to the Sun), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Sunday, September 22nd, at 12:50 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Virgo You’re coming into a new cycle centered on taking what you know and what you’ve got and then making the most of it in the real world. Assimilating information and experience, learning lessons and putting them into practice – that’s the focus as this cycle unfolds. It’s a time for prudence and stewardship, a time to tend to the details. You probably already have the grand ideals and visions: now you must get your hands dirty with the bricks and mortar and your mind busy with putting it all together.
Mercury in Libra A new cycle begins for you, signaling a greater than usual interest in relationships, social connections, and the arts – on a more intellectual level than in the past, most likely. Seeing both sides of an issue, and figuring out resolutions to opposing views: these things take on more importance in your life.
Venus in Libra As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty – these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.
Mars in Virgo As a new cycle dawns in your life, there arises a passion for details, a need to do just the right thing at just the right time, and a burning desire to have a place for everything and everything in its place. This can be hard on the digestion if taken to extremes! The satisfaction of a job well done is one of your greatest incentives now.
Jupiter in Sagittarius Faith, optimism, and a yearning to explore all kinds of new horizons: these are some of the focal points in your life at this time. Travel, education, and other ways to stretch your horizons open new doors of opportunity. Religious, philosophical, and cultural matters are likely to have special appeal for you now; transmitting ideas on a broader scale brings gain.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
