The NEW MOON occurs on Wednesday, November 7th, 2018, at 11:03 AM EST.
A new cycle begins with a New Moon in Scorpio. This cycle presents a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Scorpion.
This lunation stimulates a new beginning in the fixed water sign of Scorpio. It’s a time when we can focus on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Scorpion–passionate, resourceful, focused, probing, deep, and perceptive–and consider how to positively incorporate these qualities into our lives. Scorpio New Moons are generally good for working on our self-mastery skills. We may want to pinpoint the things in our lives that make us feel out of control, such as addictions and debts, and work on freeing ourselves of these emotional burdens. This New Moon cycle is also an opportune one in which to explore what is missing in our lives that leads us to engage in these self-destructive behaviors.
This cycle represents an opportunity to rid ourselves of the “junk” in our lives–material and spiritual. With this potent Scorpio energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. One of Scorpio’s “lessons” involve learning to dig deeper into the mysteries around us instead of always being content with the status quo. Taking the time to understand others’ motives can enrich our feelings of intimacy, forgiveness, and sense of meaning. Scorpio also teaches us that dedication to one meaningful relationship or undertaking can be significantly more satisfying than spreading ourselves around. Here, “quality over quantity” applies. We might want to use this cycle to work on focusing on and developing one special project or relationship in order to help add purposefulness and depth to our lives.
This can also be a time for seeking ways to release our fear of confrontations and of heavy emotional situations, recognizing that although they may be uncomfortable, these situations can lead us toward psychological healing.
This New Moon harmonizes with Neptune and Pluto, heightening our intuition and perception. Even so, Jupiter and Uranus, both very late in their respective signs, are about to form a quincunx, and it makes sense to watch for jumping into or out of something too hastily.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 15 degrees and 11 minutes of Scorpio, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 11 to 19 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius).

The Sun is in Scorpio; Mercury is in Sagittarius; Venus is in Libra; Mars is in Aquarius.
The Sun is in Scorpio from October 23-November 22. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire.” Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio. We have the desire to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair. Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.
Mercury is in Sagittarius from October 31-December 1, and then December 12, 2018-January 4, 2019. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. Ideals are sought, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.
Venus is in Scorpio from September 9-October 31, and then December 2, 2018-January 7, 2019. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special–contact that breaks the taboos, that is extreme and intense, and that is unforgettable. This is a highly emotional position for Venus. It is a passionate, sensual, and intense energy. Our relationships are immensely important to us, and we may even feel that they consume us. In fact, we tend to want to be consumed by them! Our drive is toward intense closeness, but blind faith in our partners is extremely hard for us now. Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up our own power to others are strong. Scorpio is an “all or nothing” energy, and relationships tend to be somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as a result. Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel us to create crises in order to feel alive and vital.
Venus is in Libra from October 31-December 2. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want during this cycle. Although Venus in Libra virtually lives for relationships, there is an air of cool detachment to this energy. We are very obliging with others–quite willing to negotiate and compromise. We can be especially idealistic about love. We prefer that things be done the “right” way, and are turned off by aggressive or uncouth behavior. The shadow side of this position is dependence, inconsistency, and superficiality. In an attempt to avoid unpleasant situations, we could easily gloss over deeper issues at play in our relationships. It’s probably best to avoid the trap of acquiescing to our partners but privately resenting the fact or thinking ourselves martyrs for doing so! This is also a time when we are more artistically inclined. We tend to seek balance in our personal environment.
Mars is in Aquarius from May 16-August 12 and September 10-November 15. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit or miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players–cooperative and less concerned about personal power. We are attracted to unconventional methods and tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective.
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Jupiter entered Scorpio on October 10th, 2017, and will remain in the sign until November 8th, 2018. Read about the Jupiter in Scorpio transit. Jupiter enters Sagittarius on November 8th, 2018, and will transit the sign until December 2nd, 2019. Read more about the Jupiter in Sagittarius transit.
Uranus entered Taurus on May 15, 2018, and will transit Taurus until November 6, 2018, and then from March 6, 2019, to 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Uranus returns to the sign of Aries for a four-month stay.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011, and continues its transit of Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Libra from October 31st to December 2nd. Venus rules Libra and thus is dignified in the sign. Venus feels right “at home” in Libra, where she seeks to balance and harmonize. With Venus in Libra, we can easily be in love with love. We are more comfortable with a close partner with whom we can seek to have a balanced relationship. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want. It’s probably best to avoid the trap of acquiescing to our partners but privately resenting the fact or thinking ourselves martyrs for doing so!
This week: Venus is retrograde again this week. (Venus is retrograde from October 5-November 16). On Thursday and Friday, we find a way to harmonize our needs with desires, our romantic sensibilities with primal urges, our comfort levels with desire for action or challenge, and our desire for companionship with independent nature. We may say the wrong things on Friday and Saturday, and we may even think the wrong things on some level — we can be led astray by our reasoning now.

The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, November 4th, from 2:27 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Libra at 4:01 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, November 6th, from 3:19 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 8:03 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, November 8th, from 5:43 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 2:00 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, November 10th, from 10:36 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Uranus), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 10:56 PM EST.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the 7th – a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions, after which the Moon is waxing — a period that is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, also with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week from Saturday, November 3rd, at approximately 2:25 AM EDT, to Sunday, November 4th, at approximately 2:25 AM EST, while the Moon is in Virgo. A Cazimi Moon occurs in the half hour before and half hour after the New Moon on the 7th – from approximately 10:35 AM to 11:30 AM EST, while the Moon is in Scorpio (when the Moon is within 0° 17′ of the Sun). Another window occurs from Friday, November 9th, at approximately 4:20 PM EST, until Saturday, November 10th, at approximately 10:30 PM EST, while the Moon is in Sagittarius. Note that Venus is retrograde during these windows, however.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun sesquiquadrate Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong, but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different.
Sun trine Neptune. We’re at the right place at the right time, probably because our hunches are more likely to be correct and we are “tuned in”. We are inspired, and charitable acts now will serve to lift our spirits like no drug can. A good time for self-improvement programs or efforts. Instinctual judgment is enhanced under this influence. We are able to see matters, and people, from a different perspective–one that allows for, and even finds beauty in, differences.
Jupiter quincunx Uranus. We might find it difficult to agree and to find something in common right now, and can experience restlessness. We need to make changes, but may not know what or when, and there can be bursts of rebelliousness if we are not in touch. We might avoid making dramatic changes until we’re clearer about what we want.
Venus trine Mars. Romantic activity, sexual attraction, creative action and self-expression in business and the arts, active participation in social functions, and creative initiative are favored under this influence. It’s easy to act upon our social and romantic needs successfully.
Mercury semi-square Venus. Difficulties in social or romantic communication are possible today. On the other hand, we may make more efforts to be polite and to communicate. Hypersensitivity, and lack of mental discipline. Our minds wander.
Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

NOVEMBER 4
The Moon continues its transit of Virgo until 4:01 AM EST when it enters Libra. The Moon in Libra is diplomatic and kind, and we’re primarily concerned with coming to a sense of balance or harmony. The Moon forms a square to Saturn in Capricorn midday, which might put a damper on our spirits temporarily as we are reminded of all we need to accomplish. We may be able to talk through our problems, however, with the Moon sextile Mercury around the same time. The Sun and Mars form a parallel, and our drive is strong. We react quickly to most situations now, as we’re quick to take action, perhaps too much so. We’re self-willed, direct, and transparent under this influence.
The Moon is void from 2:27 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Libra at 4:01 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 5
We may face situations that seem to test our vulnerabilities today, but we’re heading towards a Sun-Neptune trine, which introduces a fluid, graceful theme to the day. We readily access our intuition with this influence. We can be moved to help, support, or give of ourselves. This can be a good time for self-improvement efforts. We see people and life itself from a different perspective–one that not only allows for but finds beauty in differences. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Libra, encouraging us to go to extra lengths to get along and make things work. As well, Venus and Ceres form an alignment, and we can feel pleasantly attached, finding it natural and easy to nurture and support people in our lives, or seeking out the same from others.
NOVEMBER 6
After spending approximately seven years in the sign of Aries, Uranus moved into Taurus on May 15th of this year. Its retrograde began on August 7th. Today, still retrograde, Uranus returns to Aries where it will stay until March 6th, 2019 and finally finish up its transit of the first sign of the zodiac. We might return to redesign or make changes, possibly radical ones, to certain areas of our life so that we can gain some freedom or independence during this period. Also today, the True Node of the Moon moves into the sign of Cancer for an eighteen-month stay. During the period ahead, we’re challenged to reconnect with our needs for nurture. Heavy planets, Saturn and Pluto, are currently transiting Cancer’s opposite sign, Capricorn, and we have a lot of work to do with establishing ourselves in the world through our careers, responsibilities, and social standing. Now, we’re challenged to put our hearts and souls into our personal lives, families, homes, and inner worlds as well. Ideally, we’ll get to a state of balance. The Moon continues its transit of Libra until 8:03 AM EST today, at which time it enters Scorpio and immediately opposes Uranus as Uranus is on the verge of changing signs. We may feel a little on edge and especially sensitive to feelings of restriction.
The Moon is void from 3:19 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 8:03 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 7
The New Moon today occurs in the sign of Scorpio, pointing to a new beginning. We might look for ways to channel the most valuable traits of the sign, including our passionate, perceptive, focused, and resourceful side, into our lives in a meaningful manner. We may want to pinpoint the things that make us feel out of control, such as addictions and debts, and work on freeing ourselves of these emotional burdens. This New Moon cycle is also an opportune one in which to explore what’s missing in our lives that leads us to engage in self-destructive behaviors. This cycle represents an opportunity to rid ourselves of the “junk” in our lives–material and spiritual. Taking the time to understand others’ motives can enrich our feelings of intimacy, forgiveness, and sense of meaning. This can also be a time for seeking ways to release our fear of confrontations and heavy emotional situations, recognizing that although they may be uncomfortable, these situations can lead us toward psychological healing. This New Moon harmonizes with Neptune and Pluto, heightening our intuition and perception. Even so, Jupiter and Uranus move towards a quincunx, exact early tomorrow, with Jupiter at the very end of the sign of Scorpio and hours before it moves into Sagittarius. We should watch for acting on impulse under this influence. We’re inclined to feel rushed, and we may throw ourselves into a decision now, just to get it over with! We might find it difficult to agree or to find something in common right now and can experience restlessness. We need to make changes but may not know what or when, and there can be bursts of rebelliousness if we are not in touch with ourselves. We should probably avoid making dramatic changes until we’re clearer about what we want.
NOVEMBER 8
This morning, Jupiter enters Sagittarius, its own sign, where it will transit until December 2, 2019. This is a period for seeking out what gives us joy–what truly is important in our lives in the long run. We trust in something higher than us, and this provides us with a sense that we are doing the right thing and that we are spiritually protected–“things will work out” is the overall attitude now. This transit teaches us to embrace our more confident, brave, and outgoing selves, and this is how we grow and expand. It’s a time for breaking out of ruts and routines and entertaining new ideas, attitudes, adventures, and places. We attract the best fortune when we are open-handed and generous, tolerant, inspirational, and practice what we preach during this cycle. On a smaller scale, the Moon moves from Scorpio to Sagittarius today, too, at 2:00 PM EST. We’re pulling up out of ourselves, looking for new experiences for emotional refreshment.
The Moon is void from 5:43 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Mars), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 2:00 PM EST.
NOVEMBER 9
Venus forms a trine with Mars today, and our timing is good in our relationships, with business affairs, and in the arts. Acting upon our social and romantic needs comes more naturally to us under this influence. With Venus retrograde, however, we may not completely understand what we need and want just yet, although we’re getting there. Friendly competition motivates us to create something special or to better ourselves, and past relationships or old pleasures and projects can inspire us. There is a sense of healthy give and take happening now. The Moon continues its transit of visionary Sagittarius all day, reinforcing the friendly, dynamic vibes of the Venus-Mars trine and giving us a sense that we can do almost anything if we put our hearts into it.
NOVEMBER 10
With Mercury and Venus forming a semi-square midday, we don’t want to rock the boat and we may make extra effort to please, but some insincerity and lack of clarity can be the result. We can be particularly sensitive in our social life to what’s said or left unsaid now. We quickly become distracted, and our minds readily wander away from the tasks at hand. It’s easier to focus as the day advances as we head towards a Sun-Pluto sextile which tends to remind us of our priorities but can also light a fire under us to achieve and perform. The Moon spends much of the day in the sign of Sagittarius, and then enters Capricorn at 10:56 PM EST, also pointing to a tendency to focus and prioritize as the day progresses.
The Moon is void from 10:36 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Uranus), until the Moon enters Capricorn at 10:56 PM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Scorpio Who owes what, who owns what, and who decides these things: these are some of the major issues for you at the dawn of the cycle that now begins in your life. The only thing we really own is our consciousness; the only master who is never overthrown is oneself. These are lessons best learned early in this cycle. Master them, and you master everything. Dodge these issues, and the great strength that could be yours will remain just out of reach. Understanding inner motivations, seeing through to the core: that’s your real path of power and enlightenment now.
Mercury in Sagittarius A time of expanding your mental horizons is at hand. Religion, philosophy, law, and education are some of the things that may have special importance for you now. Being in touch with faraway people and places satisfies an intellectual yearning – curiosity will take you anywhere and maybe everywhere.
Venus in Libra As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on a greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty – these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.
Mars in Aquarius The reformer, the inventor, the engineer, the revolutionary – these are important archetypes for you as a new cycle gets underway in your life. They are icons of the ambitions that stir you at a time like this. Independence, freedom from past patterns, and a daring readiness to innovate: such are the paths of achievement for you now.
Jupiter in Scorpio The phase now beginning for you emphasizes fixing what is broken or unhealthy, thereby giving it a new lease on life. This is more than one person alone can handle, so the cooperation of others is essential. You give up something in order to get or create something, and you may not understand the reasons why at the time. Sex, money, power, and vitality become key issues.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
