First Quarter Moon
The FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Thursday, November 15th, 2018, at 9:54 AM EST.
On Thursday morning, the First Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Scorpio forms a square with the Moon in Aquarius.
There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 23 degrees and 11 minutes of Aquarius forming a square with the Sun at 23 degrees and 11 minutes of Scorpio, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 21 to 25 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.
LAST WEEK: The NEW MOON occurred on Wednesday, November 7th, 2018, at 11:03 AM EST.
A new cycle began with a New Moon in Scorpio. This cycle presented us with a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Scorpion.
This lunation stimulated a new beginning in the fixed water sign of Scorpio. It’s a time when we can focus on some of the constructive traits of the sign of the Scorpion–passionate, resourceful, focused, probing, deep, and perceptive–and consider how to positively incorporate these qualities into our lives. Scorpio New Moons are generally good for working on our self-mastery skills. We may want to pinpoint the things in our lives that make us feel out of control, such as addictions and debts, and work on freeing ourselves of these emotional burdens. This New Moon cycle is also an opportune one in which to explore what is missing in our lives that leads us to engage in these self-destructive behaviors.
This cycle represents an opportunity to rid ourselves of the “junk” in our lives–material and spiritual. With this potent Scorpio energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. One of Scorpio’s “lessons” involve learning to dig deeper into the mysteries around us instead of always being content with the status quo. Taking the time to understand others’ motives can enrich our feelings of intimacy, forgiveness, and sense of meaning. Scorpio also teaches us that dedication to one meaningful relationship or undertaking can be significantly more satisfying than spreading ourselves around. Here, “quality over quantity” applies. We might want to use this cycle to work on focusing on and developing one special project or relationship in order to help add purposefulness and depth to our lives.
This can also be a time for seeking ways to release our fear of confrontations and of heavy emotional situations, recognizing that although they may be uncomfortable, these situations can lead us toward psychological healing.
This New Moon harmonized with Neptune and Pluto, heightening our intuition and perception. Even so, Jupiter and Uranus, both very late in their respective signs, were about to form a quincunx, and it makes sense to watch for jumping into or out of something too hastily.
This phase of the Moon occurred at 15 degrees and 11 minutes of Scorpio, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 11 to 19 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius).

The Sun is in Scorpio; Mercury is in Sagittarius; Venus is in Libra; Mars is in Aquarius until November 15th, from which time Mars is in Pisces.
The Sun is in Scorpio from October 23-November 22. The guiding principle of Scorpio is “I desire.” Scorpio is the sign of depth, intimacy, and extremes of feeling. Superficiality simply will not do with the Sun in Scorpio. We have the desire to get to the bottom of matters. Mediocrity does not satisfy either. All that is hidden, taboo, secret, or suppressed interests us. In Libra, we strived towards equality and fairness. Scorpio, however, instinctively believes that life simply isn’t fair. Scorpio’s energy is provocative, usually in a quiet way, as well as passionate, strong-willed, and intense. It can be an immensely healing and transformative energy. Jealousy, vindictiveness, beating a dead horse, and manipulative are some of the more negative expressions of Scorpio.
Mercury is in Sagittarius from October 31-December 1, and then December 12, 2018-January 4, 2019. When Mercury is in Sagittarius, our thinking shifts from a need to plumb the depths of any given situation to the desire to learn about a wide range of topics. Ideals are sought, our thinking is more optimistic, and our faith increases. We are more equipped to believe and to persuade. What is fair and unfair concerns us most now. However, we are not always very precise under this influence.
Venus is in Scorpio from September 9-October 31, and then December 2, 2018-January 7, 2019. Deeply passionate relations are the focus with Venus in Scorpio. Superficial flirtations and contacts do not satisfy now, as we yearn for “body and soul” contact with someone special–contact that breaks the taboos, that is extreme and intense, and that is unforgettable. This is a highly emotional position for Venus. It is a passionate, sensual, and intense energy. Our relationships are immensely important to us, and we may even feel that they consume us. In fact, we tend to want to be consumed by them! Our drive is toward intense closeness, but blind faith in our partners is extremely hard for us now. Fears of being too vulnerable or of giving up our own power to others are strong. Scorpio is an “all or nothing” energy, and relationships tend to be somewhat of a rollercoaster ride as a result. Disdain for mediocrity and superficiality can compel us to create crises in order to feel alive and vital.
Venus is in Libra from October 31-December 2. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want during this cycle. Although Venus in Libra virtually lives for relationships, there is an air of cool detachment to this energy. We are very obliging with others–quite willing to negotiate and compromise. We can be especially idealistic about love. We prefer that things be done the “right” way, and are turned off by aggressive or uncouth behavior. The shadow side of this position is dependence, inconsistency, and superficiality. In an attempt to avoid unpleasant situations, we could easily gloss over deeper issues at play in our relationships. It’s probably best to avoid the trap of acquiescing to our partners but privately resenting the fact or thinking ourselves martyrs for doing so! This is also a time when we are more artistically inclined. We tend to seek balance in our personal environment.
Mars is in Aquarius from May 16-August 12 and September 10-November 15. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit or miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players–cooperative and less concerned about personal power. We are attracted to unconventional methods and tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective.
Mars is in Pisces from November 15-December 31. We tend to feel less motivated to go after traditional goals, and more motivated to pursue spiritual or emotional drives during this cycle. We dislike confrontation during this trend. Our output is variable rather than straightforward, and our energy is similarly up and down. We may put others’ needs ahead of our own, and our more idealistic side comes to the fore. During this cycle, going after what we want becomes less straightforward and more complicated!
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Jupiter entered Sagittarius on November 8th, 2018, and transits the sign until December 2nd, 2019. Read more about the Jupiter in Sagittarius transit.
Uranus entered Taurus on May 15, 2018, and will transit Taurus until November 6, 2018, and then from March 6, 2019, to 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Uranus returned to the sign of Aries for a four-month stay.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011, and continues its transit of Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Libra from October 31st to December 2nd. Venus rules Libra and thus is dignified in the sign. Venus feels right “at home” in Libra, where she seeks to balance and harmonize. With Venus in Libra, we can easily be in love with love. We are more comfortable with a close partner with whom we can seek to have a balanced relationship. We are more inclined to employ charm rather than aggressive behavior in order to get what we want.
This week: Venus is retrograde again this week until November 16th when it turns direct. Note: Venus has been retrograde since October 5th. With the direct turn of Venus, we begin to see some forward movement in projects or relationships that seem to have stalled. This doesn’t happen all at once; it’s more of a slow roll. On Friday and Saturday, just as Venus stations direct, it forms a contra-parallel with Uranus and can have us questioning our commitments if they seem stifling.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:

Venus trine Mars November 8-9. Sexual attraction, romantic activities, and fertility are favored. This is one of the best times to enhance a relationship. Excellent time for starting a new relationship, all things equal.
Venus semi-square Mercury November 9-10. Communications between lovers may feel superficial or unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. We may be especially sensitive to what’s being communicated now.
Venus contra-parallel Uranus November 16-17. Questions of freedom, change, specialness, and experimentation are raised in our relationships.
Venus semi-square Mercury November 21-22. Communications between lovers may feel superficial or unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. We may be especially sensitive to what’s being communicated now.
Venus parallel Mars November 27-28. Favors romantic and sexual relationships. Intense passions.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune November 29. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus opposition Uranus November 30. Not a good time to start relationships. Independence is the reigning need. Some fickleness. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Tuesday, November 13th, from 10:15 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 10:47 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, November 15th, from 10:59 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Uranus), until the Moon enters Pisces at 11:43 PM EST.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun sextile Pluto. Research brings rewards. We benefit now from strategy and keeping things to ourselves for the time being. Opportunities to find or renew something we had lost, and to gain some power are available now.
Sun semi-square Saturn. It’s hard to satisfy the ego today. We feel blocked by circumstances or others. It’s too easy to feel discouraged, but discouragement is a time waster. Gratitude isn’t forthcoming right now, so it’s best to wait it out rather than waste energy letting it get to you.
Mars sextile Uranus. This is a period in which we are more willing than usual to take risks and to make necessary changes in our lives. We are naturally bold and assertive, willing to experiment, and conscious of a need to act independently. Our ideas may be ground-breaking, and at the very least progressive. A strong desire to make things happen is with us now.

NOVEMBER 11
The Sun and Pluto form a sextile today, and we may be discovering new ways of looking at problems or life in general. We feel stronger and enjoy the empowered feeling that results from making changes and improvements. Research brings rewards. We benefit from strategy and perhaps some discretion. We’re more resourceful than usual, and we feel perfectly capable of overcoming obstacles and meeting challenges. There can be an opportunity to rebuild or reform a project and to work on self-improvement. Also today, the Capricorn Moon aligns with Saturn, reinforcing a serious, responsible, ambitious tone to the day. Situations that require us to keep a cool head work best under this influence since we’re not easily swept away by our feelings. We’re inclined to buckle down and work, organize, and plan.
NOVEMBER 12
The Moon transits Capricorn all day, and we continue to seek more order and structure in our lives. Our careers, reputation, and objectives are in focus with the Moon in this sensible sign. As the Moon harmonizes with Neptune and the Sun and aligns with Pluto, we’re both practical and intuitive today. The Sun is moving towards a semi-square to Saturn, exact early tomorrow, and as the day advances, we may be seeing the more serious side of things as worries creep into our consciousness. While others may appear unsympathetic and we can feel hampered or held back, this is a good time to edit and refine projects.
NOVEMBER 13
The Sun forms a semi-square to Saturn this morning, and this can point to some level of discouragement or a dose of reality that brings us down to earth. Gratitude may not be forthcoming right now, so it’s best to wait it out rather than waste energy looking for it. This influence can teach us to look for the intrinsic rewards for our actions. The Moon continues its transit of Capricorn until 10:47 AM EST, at which time it enters Aquarius. The progressive, unique Aquarius Moon forms a sextile to Jupiter in Sagittarius, and our enthusiasm and idealism increase as the day advances.
The Moon is void from 10:15 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 10:47 AM EST.
NOVEMBER 14
The Moon continues its transit of Aquarius all day, stimulating our progressive, inventive, and innovative side. Mars will enter the sign of Pisces tomorrow, but before it goes, it forms a sextile to Uranus, exact early tomorrow and influencing today. Mars and Uranus are in mutual reception, boosting this aspect’s benefits further. We’re in the mood to experiment and make things happen, and we can be very creative about it. This aspect points to greater willingness to take risks and make necessary changes in our lives. We are naturally bold and assertive, willing to take a chance, and conscious of a need to act independently. It’s easy and natural to break through obstacles, to find alternative methods of going after what we want, and to take progressive action or to take the lead. More courage, confidence, and energy are available to us. We embrace change, progress, and new methods.
NOVEMBER 15
Mars and Uranus perfect their sextile this morning. We’re ready to make changes that move our lives forward under this influence. The First Quarter Moon occurs today when the Sun in Scorpio forms a square to the Moon in Aquarius at 9:55 AM EST. Mars enters Pisces today and will stay in the sign until the last day of the year, December 31st. We are less motivated to pursue traditional goals and more driven by spiritual or emotional goals during this cycle. Our energy and output can be variable. Going after what we want seems considerably less straightforward while Mars is in Pisces. We tend to avoid confrontation, and we take an intuitive approach to the pursuit of our desires. We may put others’ needs ahead of our own, and our more idealistic side comes to the fore. Tomorrow, Venus turns direct and Mercury turns retrograde, and with all of these shifts occurring today and tomorrow, it’s better to take our time with important decisions. The Moon ends its transit of Aquarius at 11:43 PM EST when it enters Pisces.
The Moon is void from 10:59 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Uranus), until the Moon enters Pisces at 11:43 PM EST.
NOVEMBER 16
Venus turns direct today after a retrograde phase since October 5th. Gradually over the next few weeks, matters ruled by Venus (including love and money) should move forward more straightforwardly. Our confidence in ourselves and the universe builds, and warmth and affection are easier to express openly and directly. Tact and diplomacy re-emerge, and more clarity is likely to come to our love and social relationships. While the shift occurs today, we can be confused or disoriented, however. It’s important to be patient and take our time processing our feelings. This is especially the case with Mercury stationing and turning retrograde today which can confuse matters further. As the shift from direct to retrograde occurs, there can be some magnification of problems and difficulties understanding directions or one another. Mercury will remain retrograde until December 6th. It begins its retrograde cycle in Sagittarius and then returns to the sign of Scorpio on December 1st. Communication can be tricky, and it can be challenging to focus on hard facts. During this cycle, our thinking is turned inward, as we review and re-assess matters. Mercury retrograde periods can be times of heightened inner awareness, when meditation, keeping a journal, reworking old plans, and reviewing past work are favored. Minor breaks in the mechanical aspects of communication can reconnect us to other, possibly more meaningful, means of communication. The more difficult times are the periods of the shifts themselves – near the stations – after which we grow more and more accustomed. The Moon spends the day in Pisces, and we’re tuning into our dreams and fantasies.
NOVEMBER 17
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Pisces, encouraging us to get in touch with our imaginative, compassionate side. We are more idealistic, spiritually aware, and sensitive. Boundaries dissolve, and we are disinclined to make definite or firm conclusions and decisions. We might avoid confrontations or challenging situations now. Decisions or commitments may not be easy under this influence, but trusting in our intuition is. Also today, we may have difficulty relating to one another if we are not treating each other as equals. There can be temptations to manipulate to get our way with the Sun’s opposition to Juno. There can be jealousy or lack of trust that interferes with healthy interactions. Disagreements may be about perceived respect or lack thereof. Conceding may feel as if we are giving up something of ourselves, but coming to a balance or compromise is desirable now.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.

THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Scorpio Who owes what, who owns what, and who decides these things: these are some of the major issues for you at the dawn of the cycle that now begins in your life. The only thing we really own is our consciousness; the only master who is never overthrown is oneself. These are lessons best learned early in this cycle. Master them, and you master everything. Dodge these issues and the great strength that could be yours will remain just out of reach. Understanding inner motivations, seeing through to the core: that’s your real path of power and enlightenment now.
Mercury in Sagittarius A time of expanding your mental horizons is at hand. Religion, philosophy, law, and education are some of the things that may have special importance for you now. Being in touch with faraway people and places satisfies an intellectual yearning – curiosity will take you anywhere and maybe everywhere.
Venus in Libra As this new cycle takes hold in your life, romance and social interaction take on a greater importance for you. Harmonious ties to others are what you yearn for; refinement and elegance are what you seek. The ideal partnership, the perfect balance, the highest standards of truth and beauty – these are some of the things that quicken your pulse now.
Mars in Aquarius The reformer, the inventor, the engineer, the revolutionary – these are important archetypes for you as a new cycle gets underway in your life. They are icons of the ambitions that stir you at a time like this. Independence, freedom from past patterns, and a daring readiness to innovate: such are the paths of achievement for you now.
Mars in Pisces There’s a martyr complex in the air, now that this new phase has begun in your life. How can you (or anyone) save the world? It’s a question you’ll probably ask yourself as this cycle continues. Defending the weak, undoing injustice, and tilting at windmills can be a big temptation. You might even win a few hands – but you’ll blister a couple if you’re not careful.
Jupiter in Scorpio The phase now beginning for you emphasizes fixing what is broken or unhealthy, thereby giving it a new lease on life. This is more than one person alone can handle, so the cooperation of others is essential. You give up something in order to get or create something, and you may not understand the reasons why at the time. Sex, money, power, and vitality become key issues.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
