The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Friday, March 9, 2018, at 6:20 AM EST.
On Friday morning, the Last Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Pisces forms a square with the Moon in Sagittarius. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon (on the 1st), we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon (on March 17th), when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?
This phase of the Moon occurs at 18 degrees and 50 minutes of Sagittarius square the Sun at 18 degrees and 50 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 17 to 21 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.
The FULL MOON occurred on Thursday, March 1st, 2018, at 7:52 PM EST.
A Full Moon occurred in the sign of Virgo on Thursday. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time–a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
With the Virgo-Pisces service axis involved, this Full Moon presses us to find a balance between day-to-day functions and routines, physical health, and the need for order (Virgo) and vision, spiritual health, disorder, and the infinite (Pisces). Virgo rules the tools and techniques that we use to deal with day-to-day life, while Pisces rules the tools that we use to deal with our spiritual selves.
Some sort of crisis (which can be a crisis of consciousness) or sudden awareness of a lack in our lives provides us with a golden opportunity to explore our emotional needs within the context of the house polarity where the Full Moon occurs in our natal charts. This Full Moon urges us to strike a balance between work and service, practicality and impracticality, criticism and acceptance. With the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives.
However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as there is a sense of emotions bursting forth into our consciousness. It’s time to express ourselves and to let things out of our systems. Over the next two weeks, we will discover what this means for us. For now, we can’t sit on our feelings. We need to express them. Of course, we might want to exercise some care while doing so, knowing that what is coming out of us is not particularly rational as yet.
This Full Moon occurs in Virgo around the time of a Mercury-Mars square, and there can be impatience or harsh exchanges associated with our discoveries and realizations. However, the lunation harmonizes with Saturn, and this helps us formulate longer-term plans and strategies.
This phase of the Moon occurred at 11 degrees and 23 minutes of Virgo forming an opposition to the Sun at 11 degrees and 23 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 7 to 15 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Pisces; Mercury is in Pisces until the 6th, when it enters Aries; Venus is in Pisces until the 6th, when Venus enters Aries; Mars is in Sagittarius.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20th. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
Mercury is in Pisces from February 17-March 6. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
Mercury is in Aries from March 6-May 13. When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries.
Venus is in Pisces from February 10-March 6. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach nevertheless, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be victimized or deluded, as well as evasiveness.
Venus is in Aries from March 6-31. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now. Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
Mars is in Sagittarius from January 26-March 17. With a Sagittarius Mars, our actions are motivated by our ideals. We are bothered by routine, quickly becoming restless if we feel confined. We have a love of adventure, and of conquest–this is the position of wanderlust. We start projects or challenges with gusto, although we may tend to abandon them rather quickly. This may be because we set our sights too high!
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Jupiter entered Scorpio on October 10th, 2017, and will remain in the sign until November 8th, 2018. Read about Jupiter in Scorpio transit here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011, and will transit Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Pisces from February 10-March 6. Like Aquarius, Pisces love is universal. However, Pisces draws no bounds in love. With Venus in Pisces, we have compassion (and perhaps attraction) for those who are left out, overlooked, or victimized. We are self-sacrificing, and we have a hard time setting up borders. The walls go down, we have a hard time saying no (especially if our compassion is engaged), but we are also prone to avoiding all that makes us feel uncomfortable. Wishful thinking is one expression of Venus in Pisces. We can too easily believe what we want to believe. People can be hard to pin down, and love is hard to define under this influence.
This week: On Sunday, we have powerful energy with us for breaking through a problem area in relationships through conversation with the goal of repairing and healing.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus conjunct Mercury March 3-4. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners.
Venus conjunct Chiron March 4. Healing energy is brought to love relationships, and a new cycle begins. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings, and more willing to act upon them. This is a good time to make a resolution to repair, heal, and improve relationships.
Venus square Saturn March 12-13. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter March 12-13. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
Venus parallel Chiron March 12-13. Healing energy is brought to love relationships, and a new cycle begins. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings, and more willing to act upon them. This is a good time to make a resolution to repair, heal, and improve relationships.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, March 5th, from 1:19 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Uranus), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 8:24 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, March 7th, from 3:56 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 5:04 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Friday, March 9th, from 9:28 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Uranus), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Saturday, March 10th, at 4:53 AM EST.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun conjunct Neptune. We are extremely sensitive to the moods and undercurrents around us. We make judgments intuitively and instinctually. We may have a hard time defining our actions and our goals, perhaps losing sight of reality and reason. Flexible morals. Increased spiritual awareness, imagination, and inspiration.
Mercury conjunct Venus. Lighthearted conversations, sociability, humor, cooperation. Good time for socializing and for communicating with ease, telling others how we feel, and negotiating. Mentally, we’re not as disciplined as usual, as we prefer to chat with others and to think about more “pleasant” things than work. Generally favorable for commerce.
Mercury conjunct Chiron. Our intuitive understanding increases. This influence can stimulate us to open our minds and to learn from circumstances and from others. Sudden awareness spurs us to grow and improve. We are also more open to new ways of looking at problems or at life in general. There may be some hyper-sensitivity to what is communicated now, however.
Venus conjunct Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as to learning from one another. We more easily see beauty in human weaknesses, and are less inclined to see fault, or to concern ourselves with fault. It’s a strong time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another, although the process might feel painful! Insecurities are revealed and, ideally, cleansed. A new cycle of healing in love begins now.

MARCH 4
The Moon spends the day in Libra. With the Sun conjunct Neptune this morning, we are acutely aware of our dreams and ideals. A Mercury-Venus-Chiron conjunction, also in Pisces, gives us the opportunity — and desire — to talk or think through our feelings, sensitivities, issues, and concerns. While we are especially sensitive now, it’s a good time for socializing and communicating, telling others how we feel, and negotiating. Our intuitive understanding increases. We’re open to learning from circumstances and others. Sudden awareness spurs us to grow and improve. It’s a time for expressing compassion or forgiveness. We are also more open to new ways of looking at problems or life in general. We’re drawn to problems, fears, and insecurities with a desire to repair them. We more readily see beauty in human weaknesses, and we are less inclined to see (or concern ourselves with) fault. It’s a definite time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another, although the process might feel painful at points.
MARCH 5
The Moon continues to transit Libra until its entrance into Scorpio at 8:24 AM EST. The Scorpio Moon is loyal, passionate, perceptive, and involved. Its sextile to Saturn in Capricorn promotes deliberate and persistent hard work. However, we should watch for taking on too much or wasting energy with Mars semi-sextile Jupiter influencing the day. We might want very much to be productive but somehow go in circles, primarily because we may be overreaching, until we settle on a plan and take things step by step.
The Moon is void from 1:19 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Uranus), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 8:24 AM EST.
MARCH 6
Both Mercury and Venus enter the sign of Aries today. Mercury will transit Aries until May 13th, and during this cycle, we’re less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries. We want to be the first ones with the idea now. Mercury usually spends about three weeks in a sign, but due to Mercury’s upcoming retrograde cycle (from March 22nd to April 15th), it’s spending over two months in Aries. Venus in Aries until March 31st is bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back–we’re not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Tastes are simple, but we can feel the need to fulfill them urgently. The Moon spends the day in Scorpio, harmonizing with the Sun in Pisces and promoting cooperation and confidence.
MARCH 7
The Moon aligns with Jupiter and harmonizes with Chiron, Venus, and Mercury today, suggesting a smooth flow of communication, attention, and affection. The Moon continues its transit of Scorpio until 5:04 PM EST, after which it transits Sagittarius. Both Mercury and Venus are now in Aries, and their harmony with the Sagittarius Moon later today points to positive, to-the-point, but friendly interactions. There is a lively spirit to tonight. A Mercury-Pluto quintile today inclines us to want to pay special attention to a particular project or idea and develop it more fully. We’re pleasantly dedicated or attentive now.
The Moon is void from 3:56 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Sagittarius at 5:04 PM EST.
MARCH 8
Jupiter’s yearly retrograde begins today and will continue until July 10th. During this cycle, recognizing areas of excess or extravagance can help us. We may need to slow down certain endeavors if they’ve been moving too quickly, or this happens naturally. Some enthusiasm may wane as certain realities of time and energy set in. The Sagittarius Moon continues to spark our desire to learn, explore, and discover. Its square to Neptune this evening, however, can be a little disorienting as we look for ways to satisfy our more spiritual or imaginative needs.
MARCH 9
This morning, the Last Quarter Moon occurs when the Sun in Pisces forms a square with the Moon in Sagittarius. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness of sorts. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t. This helps us prepare for next week’s New Moon (on March 17th), when something new is born once again. This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. This is a time for mature decisions. The Moon aligns with Mars later today, however, pointing to some impulsiveness. It awakens emotional desire and stimulating some level of urgency. The Moon’s trine to Uranus helps us find easy, creative, and even inventive channels for these energies.
The Moon is void from 9:28 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Uranus), until the Moon enters Capricorn the next day, Saturday, March 10th, at 4:53 AM EST.
MARCH 10
The Moon finishes its transit of Sagittarius and enters Capricorn at 4:53 AM EST. This morning can be a time of building faith or confidence in our skills and talents, and for making plans and seeing important patterns. We can experience a stronger desire to seek out meaning, wisdom, and mental stimulation. We’re motivated to solve problems. As the day advances, we may be feeling pleasantly attached, finding it natural and easy to nurture and support people in our lives. However, by day’s end, a Mercury-Saturn square comes into influence, and there can be complaints or negative assessments in focus. Projects we thought were complete may need revision. We can be temperamental and sensitive, yet also given to criticizing. Communication blocks or challenges are possible. It may be better to seek motivation to make changes rather than focus too heavily on flaws and limitations.
The Moon is void until 4:53 AM EST when the Moon enters Capricorn.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius
The Moon is at her most optimistic and upbeat in Sagittarius. We are motivated by a need to seek the truth, and we are ready to pursue a new vision. We are not interested in details just now. Instead, we focus on the big picture. New experiences and adventures satisfy a deep emotional need. Spontaneity is the key. We may also be inclined toward overdoing and overstating. We don't want to plan ahead, and prefer to "wing it".
The Moon in Sagittarius generally favors the following activities: Adventurous activities that involve "winging it", travel, higher education, starting publishing projects, advertising, sports, physical activity.
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
Mercury in Aries New ideas and an independent or pioneering mental orientation take on more importance in your life at this time. Teaching, learning, communicating, and social contact have a way of outlining new directions in your life now, and there is much activity and involvement with these kinds of issues.
Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Mars in Sagittarius Ideology is a keynote of the new phase you have begun – the power of ideas and the power they wield over people. Religious, cultural, or philosophical controversies and crusades have a way of stirring your blood. Travel and adventure are compelling temptations as you dare to test your mettle and stretch your horizons.
Jupiter in Scorpio The phase now beginning for you emphasizes fixing what is broken or unhealthy, thereby giving it a new lease on life. This is more than one person alone can handle, so the cooperation of others is essential. You give up something in order to get or create something, and you may not understand the reasons why at the time. Sex, money, power, and vitality become key issues.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
