The NEW MOON Solar Eclipse (Total) occurs on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019, at 3:16 PM EDT.
On Tuesday afternoon, the New Moon occurs in the sign of Cancer. This lunation is a Solar Eclipse, and its effects can be felt up to six months after the actual date of the eclipse. In the Moon-ruled sign of Cancer, domestic issues, family, personal popularity, the public, women’s interests, safety, security, food, support, our past/roots/heritage, and emotional issues are likely a strong focus.
This eclipse is about new beginnings regarding all of these matters. Occurring in the sign of Cancer, we are called upon to feed our foundation–all of that which we call “home,” including the foundation we have built inside of ourselves, needs to be tended to and honored. We need to pay attention to our instincts, our deepest needs, and our feelings; and to recognize the importance of our family and our personal circle of friends and the security, sense of belonging, and safety we derive from them. We are called upon to get in touch with our vulnerability and our needs for intimacy, as well as opening ourselves up to accepting support from others; to offer and show support for others, without a hidden agenda; and we might begin a new project that involves improving the home itself, or improving domestic life in general.
With this potent Cancer energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters. Some of Cancer’s “lessons” involve learning to feed our souls, to honor our innermost feelings, and to get in touch with our vulnerability and dependency on others. We are reminded of our support system and our need for a sense of safety and security. If we focus too much on achieving our career objectives at the expense of building a solid sense of personal satisfaction, we eventually become ineffective both personally and professionally. This is because our push for results on a professional level will not bring us long-term success if we don’t know what it is we need for ourselves on a personal level.
Flaws in an important system in our lives are revealed around the time of the eclipse, prompting us to redo or to start fresh. Something ends in order for something else to start anew. We may be called to give up something in order to move forward into a new chapter in our lives. Although the “new” may be unrecognizable, it is important to allow the necessary surrender to the unknown.
An eclipse occurs close to the nodal axis, and this eclipse is closer to the North Node. Eclipses close to the North Node tend to feel easier than those in conjunction to or closer to the South Node, as there is a sense of moving forward instead of a focus on having to let go of something. Still, there is an element of the unknown involved that can worry some. Note that the last set of Cancer-Capricorn eclipses occurred from 2009-2011, and similar themes that occurred during that period may be in focus now and in the coming months.
Major developments in the personal areas ruled by Cancer in our charts are likely to occur over the course of the next 3-6 months. However, because this series of eclipses falling in Cancer-Capricorn happens until mid-2020, we can extend this range even further. The last eclipse falling along this axis will occur in July 2020. Not everyone will feel the effect of the eclipse with the same intensity. Those whose personal planets are activated by the degree of the eclipse will most feel its effects on a personal level. More about this Solar Eclipse.
It’s useful to know that eclipses occur along a sign axis in sets every nine years. This eclipse is part of a set that runs from 2018-2020. Previous ones were 2009 to 2011,
This phase of the Moon occurs at 10 degrees and 38 minutes of Cancer forming a conjunction to the Sun at 10 degrees and 38 minutes Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 6 to 16 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
This week: The Sun is in Cancer; Mercury is in Leo; Venus is in Gemini until July 3rd, after which Venus is in Cancer; Mars is in Cancer until July 1st, after which Mars is in Leo.
The Sun is in Cancer from June 21-July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home,” safe, and secure. Nurturing and taking care of our loved ones and our pet projects come into focus. Emotions run deep. We are more susceptible to the ups and downs of the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.
Mercury is in Leo from June 26-July 19 and then August 11-29. When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal–and the grander a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do under Mercury in Leo.
Venus is in Gemini from June 8-July 3. With Venus in Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the attitude now. We are sociable, communicative, and interested. We can be animated and fun but may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions now may begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level with Venus in Gemini. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness.
Venus is in Cancer from July 3-27. In Cancer, Venus is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. Cancer love is dedicated, warm, and devoted. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We are affectionate and cuddly, and we’re at our best when we feel safe and secure.
Mars is in Cancer from May 15-July 1. We pursue our interests ardently, but we avoid a direct approach to going after we want. As well, our goals and plans are subject to mood swings and vacillations. We are defensive rather than overtly aggressive. Much of what we do depends on our mood of the moment.
Mars is in Leo from July 1-August 18. In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We are spirited and have grand goals. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals. The sex drive is strong, and passion for life is high.
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Jupiter entered Sagittarius on November 8th, 2018, and transits the sign until December 2nd, 2019. Read more about the Jupiter in Sagittarius transit.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from June 8 to July 3, 2019. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Inconsistency with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates. Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
Venus is in Cancer from July 3 to 27, 2019. We treat lovers with sympathy and tenderness, providing the emotional nurturing that they need. We tend to “play it safe” when it comes to relationships. Love and devotion are most important to us and provide us with a sense of inner security. We seek a deep love in which we can merge souls and personalities with our lover. We are quite devoted to our partners, and we seek such devotion in return. However, we could also become possessive, manipulative, and stifling. Familiarity is more important to us now. Our fear of rejection is overdeveloped, and we offer our hearts cautiously as a result. We pay more attention to our lovers’ feelings than their words. We feel threatened if a lover acts in an impersonal, overly independent, or detached manner. Safe and solid relationships are more appealing. Romantic and emotional hurts are very hard to forget.
This week: Venus forms a parallel to the Sun early on Sunday, June 30th, and we are taking more interest and pride in our relationships. Venus doesn’t form any further major aspects until next week.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini June 8-July 3. Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus in Cancer July 3-27. Nurturing (or being nurtured), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time – these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.
Venus quincunx Pluto June 26-27. This is a time of adjustments and re-assessments in our close personal relationships and/or with regards to our social lives. Issues of power and control can arise. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
Venus parallel the Sun June 29-30. A strong desire for harmony and comfort fill us now. We may be moved to express our affections.
Venus square Chiron July 7-8. Not a commitment-friendly transit. We are somewhat fearful of investing ourselves emotionally in a relationship.
Venus quincunx Jupiter July 15-16. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is with us now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomachs. Troubles in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, July 1st, from 5:49 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Cancer at 9:25 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, July 3rd, from 10:25 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Pluto), until the Moon enters Leo at 11:20 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, July 5th, from 2:25 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Virgo the next day, Saturday, July 6th, at 12:26 AM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
This week, the Moon is waning until the New Moon on July 2nd, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. From the New Moon forward, the Moon is waxing, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, again with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week on Monday, July 1st, from approximately 3:00 AM to 5:45 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Gemini. However, it’s so close to the Solar Eclipse that occurs on the 2nd that major new beginnings and decisions should be avoided. Another window occurs from approximately 10:10 AM on Thursday, July 4th, until approximately 2:20 AM EDT on Friday, July 5th, while the Moon is in Leo. This is also a bit too close to the Solar Eclipse on July 2nd and to Mercury’s retrograde station on the 7th, however.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mercury sesquiquadrate Neptune. We are not thinking clearly, preferring to daydream. Technical facts can be glossed over at this time. It’s not a good time to make a presentation, to ask for what you want, or to formalize agreements.
Mars sesquiquadrate Jupiter. Although we may have much enthusiasm for life and for new projects, over-confidence and over-estimation of what we can do is likely. We are ready and willing to fight for our beliefs. We may be excitable and competitive. Jumping ahead without considering the consequences can be costly.

JUNE 30
With the Sun’s parallel to Venus today, we’re likely to experience a strong desire for harmony and comfort, and we can be moved to express our affections. At the same time, we are taking more pride in our relationships or diplomacy, and we may be putting more effort into these things now. We prefer to attract than pursue and to compromise than fight. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Gemini, and we can be especially curious, spending more time than usual in our minds. With the Moon opposite Jupiter tonight, restlessness is stirred, and we can be tempted to go overboard to combat boredom, or we may be challenged to move out of our comfort zones on a mental level.
JULY 1
Mars enters the sign of Leo today where it will transit until August 18th. Mars in Leo is proud, self-confident, and grand. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner during this cycle, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and seek the least complicated route to our goals. Passion for life runs high, and this theme will be reinforced further when the Sun also enters Leo on the 22nd and then Venus on the 27th. The Moon continues its transit of curious Gemini until 9:25 PM EDT when it enters protective, nurturing Cancer. The Moon aligns with Venus while it’s still transiting Gemini. We’re drawn to activities that bring more beauty and harmony to our lives, and we’re inclined to use conversation to get there. A Solar Eclipse occurs tomorrow, making today a critical time for unwinding or winding down.
The Moon is void from 5:49 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Cancer at 9:25 PM EDT.
JULY 2
A total Solar Eclipse occurs today in the Moon-ruled sign of Cancer, and we’re beginning fresh with domestic matters, family, personal popularity, the public, women’s interests, safety, security, food, support, our past/roots/heritage, and emotional issues. We are called to pay particular attention to our instincts, our deepest needs, and our feelings. It’s a time to recognize the importance of our family and our personal circle of friends as well as the security, sense of belonging, and safety we derive from them. This eclipse is one of a set of eclipses falling along the Cancer-Capricorn axis, the first one having already occurred in July 2018, and the last of which set to take place in July 2020. This is a time for exploring the relationship between our inner and outer selves.
JULY 3
Mercury forms a minor challenging aspect with Neptune today, which can serve to diffuse our concentration or focus. We’re more likely to perceive situations in an impractical or overly optimistic way, making it a less than ideal time for clear thinking and the handling of details. The Moon is in Cancer most of the day, and we are more concerned than usual with our personal lives and family. We’re inclined to respond to challenges or stress by retreating or withdrawing. We may prefer to stick with safe and familiar people, places, and situations right now. Venus enters Cancer today, where it will transit until the 27th. Venus in Cancer is nurturing, protective and self-protective, cautious, and fertile. We experience many emotional ups and downs in love under this influence due to increased sensitivity and impressionability. We are tender, romantic, and attached. We show our love through our devotion, care, and concern. We’re at our best when we feel safe and secure. During this cycle, we may have a greater interest in home life and home improvement, nesting, home business, domestic and family activities, and purchases of long-term items. Saturn’s opposition to the true North Node of the Moon is a longer-term aspect that can point to challenges related to hanging on to old habits that may be preventing us from growing, improving, and thriving. We should watch for sticking with the familiar only for fear of change. Interestingly, fear of quiet, intimacy, spending more time with loved ones, family, and ourselves may be the issues at this time, in part because these things take us away from our ambitions and work which feel a little safer or more measurable for the time being, somewhat ironically. The Moon enters Leo at 11:20 PM EDT, which can bring out our desire to entertain and share.
The Moon is void from 10:25 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Pluto), until the Moon enters Leo at 11:20 PM EDT.
JULY 4
Today’s Mars-Jupiter sesquiquadrate can point to some agitation and competitive feelings that can either spur us on to make improvements or distract us. Enthusiasm and motivation can be incredible now if we know where to channel excess energy, but over-confidence and over-estimation of what we are capable of doing may lead to poor decisions or regrettable actions. We can also be rather argumentative and reactive with this combination. The Moon spends the day in the sign of Leo, and we’re ready to enjoy and express ourselves. With the Moon’s square to Uranus, we are in no mood to be told what to do or how to act. We can be going our own way now.
JULY 5
The Moon is in Leo all day, inspiring us to find our inspiration! We’re seeking out love and appreciation, and our hearts are big. There is a tendency to worry about what others think of us a little too much today, however. With Venus semi-sextile Mars, we may be struggling with whether to take a direct or indirect approach to getting what we want, when we may be better off recognizing that it doesn’t have to be one way or the other–a combination would be ideal, or else the see-sawing can be confusing to all.
The Moon is void from 2:25 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Virgo the next day, Saturday, July 6th, at 12:26 AM EDT.
JULY 6
The Moon moves into Virgo early today, at 12:26 AM EDT, and we have a desire to tidy up our affairs. Keeping busy and making headway satisfies us more than usual. The Moon taps into the energy of an upcoming Venus-Uranus sextile, and this can serve to open our minds and hearts to new ideas and new ways of relating. Do note that Mercury is moving towards its retrograde station, happening tomorrow, and we may want to save launches or brand new projects for a better time. While the retrograde period that lasts from the 7-31 is strong for catching ourselves up, the days around the shifts can be disorienting, and this can be an issue today. We may not know all the facts, and we should watch for confusing directions and perceptions. There can be difficulties getting our message across successfully now, and this is temporary.
The void Moon ends when the Moon enters Virgo today at 12:26 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
When the Moon is in Leo
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Cancer Being more in touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do with feelings, but it’s more than that: it’s about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At some levels, this means a greater focus on family life – parents, children, relatives, the whole domestic scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you’re likely to find that houses and other real property take on greater significance for you. Nurturing is where it’s at in your life now: making things grow and taking care of them, planting seeds that will develop and survive far into the future – that’s what it’s all about.
Mercury in Leo The hallmark of the cycle you have just begun is thinking, learning and communicating with style. Intellectual creativity is highlighted, and your social connections have a certain flair of drama to them. Winning the admiration of others for the things you say or write (and the way you do it) takes on more importance in your life.
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes naturally now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Venus in Cancer Nurturing (or being nurtured), sympathy, a yearning to put down roots, and a fondness for things that have stood the test of time – these are some of the hallmarks of the phase that now begins in your life. Romantic and social experiences, as well as artistic tastes, will show evidence of these factors.
Mars in Cancer Defensive, aren’t we? With this new cycle getting underway, protecting and preserving you and yours takes on a higher than usual priority. A sensitivity to the needs and wants of others and an appreciation for their frailties (as well as your own) makes you more cautious and conservative … you pick your battles with care.
Mars in Leo The thrill of the chase, the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd: that’s what gets your juices flowing now that you’ve entered a new cycle. To be appreciated, to be admired (adored, even) – that’s what you crave. It’s a time of creativity, drama, and passion; a time when grabbing the spotlight and stealing the scene gives you a thrill. Is winning everything? No – but it’s way ahead of whatever comes in second!
Jupiter in Sagittarius Faith, optimism, and a yearning to explore all kinds of new horizons: these are some of the focal points in your life at this time. Travel, education, and other ways to stretch your horizons open new doors of opportunity. Religious, philosophical, and cultural matters are likely to have special appeal for you now; transmitting ideas on a broader scale brings gain.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
