The NEW MOON occurs on Friday, June 23, 2017, at 10:31 PM EDT.
On Friday night, a New Moon occurs, marking the beginning of a new cycle. The Gemini New Moon cycle ends and the Cancer New Moon cycle begins.
The New Moon in Cancer is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Crab. These include honoring our deepest, most irrational and intimate, feelings; recognizing the sense of security and safety we derive from whatever it is we call home; allowing ourselves to accept support and offering support to others; and starting a project aimed at improving our domestic lives or a major long-term venture. With this potent Cancer energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle.
It’s time to make some plans and set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs. Concentrate on new ways to enhance family life and domestic affairs, and to build up your feelings of security and safety. With this New Moon, we are particularly alert and observant, ready to put our plans in action. This is a particularly creative and magical New Moon as it occurs around the same time as two significant and powerful trines: Venus trine Pluto and Mars trine Neptune.
This phase of the Moon occurred at 2 degrees and 47 minutes of Sagittarius opposite the Sun at 2 degrees and 47 minutes of Gemini, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 29 to 30 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) and 0 to 7 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Gemini until the 21st, when it enters Cancer; Mercury is in Gemini until the 21st, when it enters Cancer; Venus is in Taurus; Mars is in Cancer.
The Sun is in Gemini from May 20-June 21. Knowledge and diversity motivate us with the Sun in Gemini. We are more sociable, intellectual, and insatiably curious under this influence. We tend to scatter our energies as a result of this curiosity and awareness of all of our options. We are more communicative and versatile, but we can also be unreliable.
The Sun is in Cancer from June 21-July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home”, safe, and secure. Nurturing and taking care of our loved ones and our pet projects comes into focus. Emotions run deep. We are more susceptible to the ups and downs of the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.
Mercury is in Gemini from June 6-21. When Mercury is in Gemini, we are especially communicative, curious, and sociable. Mercury feels right at home in Gemini, one of the signs that it rules. We tend to take more pleasure in gaining a superficial knowledge of many subjects rather than dig deep into any one topic. We are especially astute when it comes to arguing or making a point. We are attracted to wordplays, puns, and negotiations. We are easily distracted.
Mercury is in Cancer from June 21-July 5. When Mercury is in Cancer, we move from the desire for quantity to the need for quality in terms of the information we are attracted to. We think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more instinctive level now. We have less interest in what is universal, and more interest in what affects us personally and what affects the people around us. Our thoughts are colored by our emotions, so it is more challenging to be objective.
Venus is in Taurus from June 6- July 4. In Taurus, Venus is very sensual (naturally), content, and possessive. We seek security and value that which lasts. Our appetite for pleasure is strong. Taurus values the here and the now as well as the world of the five senses. Tangible and physical expressions of love and romance are most important now. Holding on to someone we love is our tendency under Venus in Taurus. The shadow side of this is excessive possessiveness and treating our partners as objects that we own or want to own. On the financial side, Venus in Taurus looks for high-quality, solid, practical, and long-lasting items. Holding on to our possessions is more likely now.
Mars is in Cancer from June 4-July 20. We pursue our interests ardently, but we avoid a direct approach to going after we want. As well, our goals and plans are subject to mood swings and vacillations. We are defensive rather than overtly aggressive. Much of what we do depends on our mood of the moment.
Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015, to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius here.
Jupiter entered Libra on September 9th, 2016, and will transit Libra until October 10, 2017. Read about Jupiter in Libra here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011 and will transit Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Taurus from June 6-July 4. In Taurus, Venus is usually quite content but can be possessive.
This week: On Monday, we can feel a little off in our interactions, wanting, on the one hand, more than we can reasonably handle, and on the other, undervaluing ourselves. It’s not the best time for making commitments due to this vacillation and lack of clarity. However, by nighttime, we are more likely to let go of unrealistic expectations and let things flow. We can experience unusual attractions that add imagination, inspiration, and emotional “color” to our lives. Watch for pettiness, a too logical approach to feelings, or superficiality in our relations from Tuesday night to Wednesday. We might awaken to powerful feelings on Friday and Saturday, even though they may be too new to process fully.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Taurus June 6-July 4. A love of music, an appreciation for sensual pleasures and others of the finer things in life – such are the signs of the cycle which has begun for you. This is aesthetic and artistic to be sure, but it is also practical and materialistic: you develop a keen appreciation for the value of things, including the money it takes to buy them.
Venus quincunx Jupiter June 18-19. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is with us now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomachs. Troubles in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.
Venus semi-square Chiron June 19. Love cannot be forced. This is not a commitment-friendly transit, as we may feel alienated for no apparent reason and unwilling to give of ourselves.
Venus sextile Neptune June 19-20. Unusual attractions that add imagination, inspiration, and emotional “color” to our lives may occur now. We are attuned to the subtleties of human interaction, and we are more inclined to naturally cooperate with others. An imaginative, romantic time.
Venus semi-square Mercury June 20-21. Communications between lovers may feel superficial or unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. We may be especially sensitive to what’s being communicated now.
Venus trine Pluto June 23-24. Powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions. Relationships are intense and deep, but not draining.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Monday, June 19th, from 3:43 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Taurus at 5:53 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, June 21st, from 12:26 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Pluto), until the Moon enters Gemini at 6:45 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Friday, June 23rd, from 2:46 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Uranus), until the Moon enters Cancer at 6:08 PM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the 23rd — a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun sextile Uranus. We are willing to adapt to new circumstances, ideas, and unfamiliar situations. It’s a good time to join organizations and groups and to attend meetings or social events, as these can be enlightening. We can find creative solutions to problems now and effect positive changes. Flexibility is the key to success under this influence.
Mercury opposition Saturn. Our thought patterns take on a negative skew, as we think in pessimistic terms and we communicate sparingly or reluctantly. It’s difficult to trust our instincts, and we second-guess things automatically under this influence. We may need to deal with red tape, re-doing tasks we thought we had finished, problems getting from point A to point B, delays in communication, negative thinking, hypersensitivity, and criticism.
Venus quincunx Jupiter. A strong desire for the pleasures of life is emphasized now, although our eyes are often bigger than our stomach. Challenges in relationships now are likely due to overblown expectations. It can be challenging to find a balance between responsibilities and the desire for self-gratification.
Venus semi-square Sun. Inner discontent can spill over into our relationships, producing subtle tension. It’s best to get in touch with our needs and yearnings instead of overindulging or procastinating.
Venus semi-square Chiron. Blocks to intimacy are possible now as we focus on differences rather than similarities in our relationships with others. We might have a hard time learning from one another as a result.
Sun square Chiron. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong but may be hampered by a lack of confidence or a fear of being different. We might experience a lack of faith in our own decisions. We could too easily follow others’ leads due to self-doubt, or simply to please them and out of fear of asserting our own desires.
Venus sextile Neptune. We are more imaginative and attuned to the world of beauty and romance today. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level is possible now.
Mercury sextile Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue”. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding.
Mercury square Chiron. Communications may be strained, and possibly hurtful or perceived as such. Misunderstandings are more likely now. Decisions may also be hard to come by, as we tend to doubt ourselves or the effectiveness of our ability to solve problems. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now.
Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has an impact, for better or for worse!
Mercury semi-square Venus. Difficulties in social or romantic communication are possible today. On the other hand, we may make more efforts to be polite and to communicate. Hypersensitivity, and lack of mental discipline. Our minds wander.
Venus trine Pluto. An excellent time for finances and for relationships, all things equal. Our feelings are intense and impassioned, but not in an offensive or destructive way. The need to share on deeper levels is strong now. A spiritual regeneration through love is possible.

JUNE 18
The Moon is in assertive, active Aries all day, and the Sun’s sextile to Uranus is a creative, adaptive, and innovative influence. We’re embracing new or unfamiliar ideas and seeking out creative solutions to problems under this influence. However, Mercury in Gemini opposes Saturn this afternoon, pointing to some reluctance or blockage related to our communications and transportation. We may face some criticism or delays. We might feel threatened by unexpected events or challenges to our opinions, ideas, or intelligence. Circumstances are such that we may need to tone down our enthusiasm if our plans are lacking, and think in more practical, realistic terms. Decision-making doesn’t get much easier later today, as alternatives may seem equally attractive, but we feel freer to explore our options.
JUNE 19
Venus forms a with quincunx Jupiter this morning, and we can have a hard time deciding what we want and finding a balance between self-involvement and reliability. The Moon continues to transit the sign of Aries until 5:53 PM, when it enters Taurus. Emotions settle a little, but we can be a little moody or sensitive. The Sun forms a square with Chiron and Venus gets in between the two bodies, forming a semi-square to each. This is an especially sensitive configuration — we can feel restless, uncertain, unappreciated, and perhaps even slighted. Differences between one another seem to loom larger than similarities. We could too easily follow others’ leads due to self-doubt or fear of asserting our own desires, or perhaps in an effort to please them. Alternatively, we might go to great lengths to prove ourselves or assert our individuality, when a better approach would be to recognize our feelings of vulnerability that may be stirred by people or circumstances.
A void of course Moon occurs from 3:43 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to the Sun), until the Moon enters Taurus at 5:53 PM EDT.
JUNE 20
Venus sextiles Neptune early today, and we are especially tuned into our creative or romantic nature. The sextile between Mercury and Uranus early morning encourages alternative approaches and new ideas, as well as technical thinking. Intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue.” Original, creative ideas come naturally. We can take advantage of this by solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding. A square between Mercury and Chiron later today, however, can point to insecurity or strained, unnatural communications, as well as a time when we can be a little more sensitive to criticism. We may doubt ourselves when it comes to solving problems or learning and expressing ourselves. This evening, the Moon’s alignment with Venus in its own sign, Taurus, helps soften rough edges. We aim to please and harmonize under this influence. Both the Sun and Mercury are moving through the last degree of Gemini today, pointing to some tendency to jump into decisions prematurely. Both bodies will enter Cancer early into the day tomorrow and then meet in the sign later morning.
JUNE 21
Both the Sun and Mercury enter the sign of Cancer early today and then align in the first degree of Cancer later morning. This is a superior conjunction of Mercury and the Sun and can stimulate an epiphany, illumination of a matter, or a clearing of the air. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has an impact, for better or for worse! We may want to watch for intellectualizing issues that require more sensitivity, however. The Sun spends the coming month (until July 22nd) in Cancer, and our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home,” safe, and secure. Nurturing and taking care of our loved ones and our pet projects come into focus. We might consider building a base for long-term endeavors now. We are protective of our loved ones and ourselves during this cycle. Mercury will transit Cancer until July 5th, and we think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more intuitive level now. We have less interest in what is universal, and more interest in what affects us personally and what affects the people around us. Our emotions color our thoughts, so it is more challenging to be objective during this cycle. Mercury also forms a semi-square to Venus today, and there can be some hyper-sensitivity in our interactions. We may take offense quickly. This aspect can also point to a certain amount of mental laziness or lack of mental discipline. The Moon is in Taurus until 6:45 PM EDT, after which it transits Gemini.
A void of course Moon occurs from 12:26 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Pluto), until the Moon enters Gemini at 6:45 PM EDT.
JUNE 22
The Moon is in Gemini all day, and we can be especially influenced or seduced by ideas with the Moon’s harmonious trine to Jupiter in Libra and challenging square to Neptune. This is a time of an increased need for conversation and mental engagement. While the Moon in Mercury’s sign winds us up on a mental level, generally speaking with the Moon Balsamic as we move closer towards a New Moon, it’s best to wind down, reflect, and tie up loose ends.
JUNE 23
The Moon is in Gemini until 6:08 PM EDT, after which it transits the sign of Cancer. The Moon’s opposition to Saturn this morning can leave us feeling inhibited or criticized. However, we might learn from negative reviews coming in by choosing to take the lessons from them and discard the negative. The Moon is Balsamic until the New Moon tonight, pointing to a need to reflect, review, and wind down. The New Moon occurs in the sign of Cancer at 10:32 PM, marking the beginning of a new cycle. This is a time for committing to goals that honor our deepest, most intimate feelings and to recognize the sense of security and safety we derive from whatever it is we call home. It’s also a time for allowing ourselves to accept support and offering support to others, and for starting a major long-term venture or a project aimed at improving our domestic lives. With this potent Cancer energy, we have the chance to make significant changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. With this New Moon, we are particularly alert and observant, ready to put our plans in action. This is a particularly creative and magical New Moon as it occurs around the same time as two significant and powerful trines: Venus trine Pluto and Mars trine Neptune. In fact, we’re moving towards a Venus-Pluto trine today, exact tomorrow morning, and the need to share or enjoy life on deeper levels is strong now. A spiritual regeneration through love is possible.
A void of course Moon occurs from 2:46 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Uranus), until the Moon enters Cancer at 6:08 PM EDT.
JUNE 24
The Moon spends the day in Cancer. After a New Moon in the sign last night, we can be feeling energized and itch to make changes, especially related to home and family. With a Venus-Pluto influence this morning, our feelings are pleasantly intense and our interactions a little deeper than usual. We are more strategic and can see the value of patience. We might gain new insight into business and personal relationships. A Mars-Jupiter square, exact early tomorrow, influences the day, however, and particularly as the day advances, we’re easily riled up. Watch carefully for making too much of something that doesn’t deserve so much attention. The temptation to overdo, overexert, overstate, and so forth, can be strong now, especially since Mars is also out of bounds. As well, the Moon aligns with Mars and forms a square with Jupiter, pulling our feelings more directly into the equation. We can be excited about our prospects, but perhaps too hasty, counting our chickens before they hatch, putting money into a venture that needs further review, or overestimating what we can do. We may be so focused on what we think should be and lose sight of what is possible. We can also be excitable and competitive under this influence and ready to fight for what’s fair.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Gemini The cycle which begins for you now will be marked by a more intense focus on mental and communicative activity than you may ever have experienced before. It’s a time of more involvement with other people, a time for gathering information, and a time when you’re apt to be more on the go than ever. There is likely to be an emphasis on reading, writing, studying, and all forms of exchanging information with others in the years ahead – and it will all serve as a path for self-discovery and personal development.
Sun in Cancer Being more in touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do with feelings, but it’s more than that: it’s about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At some levels, this means a greater focus on family life – parents, children, relatives, the whole domestic scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you’re likely to find that houses and other real property take on greater significance for you. Nurturing is where it’s at in your life now: making things grow and taking care of them, planting seeds that will develop and survive far into the future – that’s what it’s all about.
Mercury in Gemini A walking encyclopedia, a yen to know a little bit about everything (and everyone): these are the icons of the cycle you have just begun. Talking, writing, keeping a finger on the pulse of all that’s happening … this is a time of study and learning, a cycle of mental challenge, curiosity, and social/intellectual growth. Such things are an end in themselves rather than a means to any other end.
Mercury in Cancer Gut-level is the way you think, speak, and perceive in the cycle you have just begun. You aren’t interested in the superficial; instead, you want to get right to the root of things. You don’t care about the universal, only about how things impact you and yours. Intellect and emotion mix to the point of inseparability.
Venus in Taurus A love of music, an appreciation for sensual pleasures and others of the finer things in life – such are the signs of the cycle which has begun for you. This is aesthetic and artistic to be sure, but it is also practical and materialistic: you develop a keen appreciation for the value of things, including the money it takes to buy them.
Mars in Cancer Defensive, aren’t we? With this new cycle getting underway, protecting and preserving you and yours takes on a higher than usual priority. A sensitivity to the needs and wants of others and an appreciation for their frailties (as well as your own) makes you more cautious and conservative … you pick your battles with care.
Jupiter in Libra The ties that bind, the harmonious integration of opposites, the perfect balance: these are the keys to your greatest opportunities now. Marriage and other close personal relationships tend to offer bright prospects, and you have a deep yearning to experience the fulfillment they can bring.
Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.” Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
