The NEW MOON occurs on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at 11:12 PM EDT.
On Wednesday night, the New Moon occurs in the sign of Leo. The New Moon in Leo is an excellent time for formulating goals regarding “all things Leo.” We might concentrate on new ways to enhance our romantic life, creative endeavors and hobbies, and relationship with children, as well as to build our self-confidence and healthy pride in ourselves.
Some of Leo’s “lessons” involve taking pride in ourselves as unique individuals, assuming responsibility for our lives, and giving ourselves warmly and generously to others. This New Moon period is an excellent time to meditate upon some of the characteristics of Leo. Keywords for this self-expressive Fire sign — such things as proud, magnanimous, generous, hospitable, caring, warm, authoritative, active, and open — are traits that might be incorporated into our personalities.
We all have Leo somewhere in our charts. Seek the coming month to improve those areas of life. It’s time to awaken the “inner child” in ourselves and to find ways to creatively express ourselves. With this potent Leo energy, we have the chance to make significant changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. It’s time to make some plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs.
With the Sun and Moon square Uranus, we should watch for prematurity and abrupt changes or rebellion. However, it can be a courageous, proactive time. The desire to change and improve creative and romantic matters is strong.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 8 degrees and 37 minutes of Leo conjunct the Sun at 8 degrees and 37 minutes of Leo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 4 to 14 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

This week: The Sun is in Leo; Mercury is in Cancer; Venus is in Leo; Mars is in Leo.
The Sun is in Leo from July 22-August 23. In Leo, the Sun is proud, outgoing, and playful. The Leo Sun is intensely individual—not content with simply being just one of the team. It’s time to shine, add a touch of color and drama to our lives, and perform. Like the flowers and fruit of the season—blossoming and ripened—this is a time when we want to enjoy ourselves and express ourselves. We are more generous and grand in our gestures and attitudes. On the shadow side, we can also be self-centered and vain.
Mercury is in Leo from June 26-July 19 and then August 11-29. When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal–and the grander a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do under Mercury in Leo.
Mercury is in Cancer from July 19-August 11. When Mercury is in Cancer, we move from the desire for quantity to the need for quality in terms of the information we are attracted to. We think, speak, and take in information on a deeper, more instinctive level now. We have less interest in what is universal, and more interest in what affects us personally and what affects the people around us. Our thoughts are colored by our emotions, so it is more challenging to be objective.
Venus is in Leo from July 27-August 21. We take pride in love, and we are generous with our money as well. This is a warmhearted, teasing, expressive, proud, and extravagant placement for Venus. Love is a bit of a game–a game that is perpetual, as Venus in Leo is forever stuck in the romance stage of a relationship. We feed on attention, acknowledgment, validation, and adoration. We have a strong ego investment in our love lives during this period. The negative expression of this placement is overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.
Mars is in Leo from July 1-August 18. In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We are spirited and have grand goals. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals. The sex drive is strong, and passion for life is high.
Jupiter entered Sagittarius on November 8th, 2018, and transits the sign until December 2nd, 2019. Read more about the Jupiter in Sagittarius transit.
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Leo from July 28 to August 21, 2019.
Venus in Leo loves to be adored, pampered, and admired. Pride and passion are hallmarks of this cycle. We have a strong ego investment in our love lives during this period. The negative expression of this placement is overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.
This week: There can be some intensity in our love or social lives on Wednesday to Friday. Some resistance to getting close to one another is possible, but we can learn through these feelings. Relationships may go through healing, or ups and downs may lead to new commitments.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Leo July 27-August 21. Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired – needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter July 27. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune July 30. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus trine Chiron July 31-August 1. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings.
Venus square Uranus August 1-2. We might have to deal with issues of freedom versus intimacy during this period. Peculiar or impulsive attractions are exciting but unlikely to last very long. Treat them as passing fancies, and enjoy them while they last–but try to hold off on making any big decisions with regards to love today.
Venus parallel Mercury August 4-5. A congenial time when we appreciate diplomacy and socialize more readily.
Venus trine Jupiter August 7-8. Harmony and goodwill reign under this influence. Expansive feelings in love, and a feeling that anything is possible if we set our sights high enough, are experienced now. We are friendly, big-hearted, sociable, and optimistic. It is easy to make social contacts under this influence. Cheerfulness, trust, and confidence in love and social matters.
Venus quincunx Saturn August 8-9. A feeling that we may not be able to express our affections, or that our affections will not be received well, can undermine us in our relationships. Fear of rejection, emotional distancing, and over-sensitivity.
Venus quincunx Neptune August 10-11. Idealism and disappointments in love. Avoid becoming blinded by what you want to see, rather than what really is. Doubts about love.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, July 28th, from 11:24 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Cancer the next day, Monday, July 29th, at 7:31 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, July 30th, from 11:33 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mercury), until the Moon enters Leo the next day, Wednesday, July 31st, at 9:18 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, August 1st, from 4:48 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mars), until the Moon enters Virgo the next day, Friday, August 2nd, at 9:20 AM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the 31st, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. After the New Moon, the Moon is waxing, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, again with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs at the Cazimi Moon on Wednesday, July 31st, from approximately 10:45 PM to 11:40 PM EDT, while the Moon is in Leo. Caveats: Note that Mercury is only just ending its retrograde, stationing direct within an hour of this window! Another window occurs from Saturday, August 3rd, at approximately 9:30 AM, until Sunday, August 4th, at approximately 12:25 AM EDT, while the Moon is in Virgo.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Sun trine Chiron. A sense of purpose or a “mission” is with us now, increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and through others is strong. Problem-solving is favored.
Sun square Uranus. We can’t expect much of anything when the Sun squares Uranus, except the unexpected! Disrupted routines and plans are in order, which help to stimulate the adoption of new approaches. During this transit, we feel the need for action, but if we don’t know where we’re headed, we might take the wrong turn. Unexpected changes in plans or events can test our patience, and we might feel a bit out of control. However, they could stimulate us to try new approaches and they certainly act to cut boredom. This transit could offer us the drive to do something new, but avoid making hasty major decisions for the time being.
Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune. Happiness is addictive under this influence. We tend to see what we want to see. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and of people provides us with instant gratification. However, it’s wise to hold off on making important purchases, or natalizing a relationship until the veil lifts. Take care with legal, financial, and social involvements, contracts, or formal agreements under this dreamy influence.
Mars quincunx Neptune. We can feel vaguely discontented and without direction under this influence. The tendency to be careless is also strong now. Poor judgment or laziness can prevent us from realizing our plans.
Venus trine Chiron. We have the chance to heal our personal relationships now, as we are more open to intimacy and commitment, as well as learning from one another. We more easily see the beauty in human weaknesses, and we’re less inclined to see fault–or to concern ourselves with fault. It’s a strong time for building trust in relationships, and for seeing potential in one another.
Venus square Uranus. Values and tastes may clash, and group activities may suffer as a result. Impulsive attractions to both people and material goods can lead us astray. Avoid impulse buys at this time. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness are probable in romantic relationships. We may not see eye to eye, and we might be taken off guard by unexpected events. This is not a favorable aspect for beauty treatments because they could have unexpected results. We may struggle with freedom versus intimacy issues at this time. Hold off on decision-making with regards to finances.
Mars sesquiquadrature Chiron. We can be easily offended under the influence of this transit. Touchiness. Difficulties expressing our anger or desires in a direct manner.
Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

JULY 28
Today’s Sun-Chiron aspect encourages a holistic approach to problem-solving and points to opportunities to learn, grow, and improve. We’re putting our respect in the right places. An opportunity to find a sense of purpose or a “mission” can arise now, increasing our confidence. The desire to learn and grow through experiences and people in our lives is healthy, and this helps improve relationships as well as problem-solving. The Moon spends another day in the sign of Gemini, stimulating our curiosity further.
The Moon is void from 11:24 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Neptune), until the Moon enters Cancer tomorrow, Monday, July 29th, at 7:31 AM EDT.
JULY 29
The Sun forms a square to Uranus today, and changes made now seem out of character or abrupt. Disrupted routines and plans are likely, and while they can be unsettling at first, they can also help to stimulate the adoption of new approaches. Our strong desire for independence or to break the rules could impair our judgment. Even so, if we’re willing to learn from our mistakes, we might choose to adopt a more careful approach to making necessary changes now. Disruptions can pull up buried frustrations, which we should probably examine more closely. It can be a time to learn something new about ourselves. Relationships or finances can be/seem unpredictable. The Moon continues its transit of Gemini until 7:31 AM EDT, after which it transits Cancer.
The Moon continues its void period until 7:31 AM EDT when it enters Cancer.
JULY 30
Both Venus and Mars are in minor challenging aspect with Neptune today, suggesting some adjustments to our expectations needed. Glossing over the more realistic points, details, and flaws of circumstances and people can provide us with instant gratification. However, it’s best to hold off on big decisions until the veil lifts. Take care with legal, financial, and social involvements, contracts, or formal agreements, especially with Mercury heading toward a station. Transits can serve to undercut our confidence in taking action or asserting ourselves. However, if our plans are running counter to our ideals, it’s a time for recognizing our spiritual or emotional needs and making adjustments before pushing forward. These aspects serve as a reminder to slow down and tune into our intuition. The Moon spends the day in the sensitive, moody, and protective sign of Cancer.
The Moon is void from 11:33 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mercury), until the Moon enters Leo tomorrow, Wednesday, July 31st, at 9:18 AM EDT.
JULY 31
The Moon ends its transit of Cancer at 9:18 AM EDT, after which the Moon transits Leo, aligning with Venus this afternoon and encouraging cooperation and generosity. The New Moon occurs in Leo tonight at 11:12 PM, bringing proud, generous, warm, and authoritative energy. With this potent Leo energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives that will benefit us now and in the weeks ahead. It’s time to make some plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs. We might concentrate on new ways to enhance romance and creativity and to build up our feelings of confidence and pride. With this lunation square Uranus, we should watch for prematurity and abrupt changes or rebellion. However, it can be a courageous, proactive time. The desire to change and improve our lives is strong. Also tonight, Mercury turns direct after a several-week retrograde. Over the coming weeks, problems with communications and decision-making we may have encountered while Mercury was retrograde should clear up. We might be flooded with energies that are hard to make sense of as the change takes place today. As such, important decision-making might be avoided for the time being.
The Moon continues its void period until 9:18 AM EDT when it enters Leo.
AUGUST 1
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Leo. A New Moon occurred in Leo last night, and energy for new beginnings is with us now. Venus forms a trine to Chiron and heads toward a square to Uranus. We may be opening our hearts to one another as we see the beauty in our imperfections. We’re open to new ways of interacting. However, Venus in Leo seeks constancy and personal presence in its interactions and pleasures, while Uranus challenges this with its drive for freedom and independence. Circumstances now can seem to pit freedom versus intimacy or closeness. We may be acting on whims, or we might experience sudden, unusual attractions, likely because of our fears that we’ll lose our independence. Or, we can be frustrated by others’ seeming indifference when we’d prefer to go all in. The Moon aligns with Mars today, pointing to some impulsiveness. This aspect awakens emotional desire and stimulates a sense of urgency.
The Moon is void from 4:48 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mars), until the Moon enters Virgo tomorrow, Friday, August 2nd, at 9:20 AM EDT.
AUGUST 2
Venus perfects its square to Uranus this morning, presenting a potential challenge or struggle. Values and tastes may clash, and social activities may suffer as a result. Impulsive attractions to both people and material goods can lead us astray. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness are possible in romantic relationships. Hold off on decision-making regarding finances, as there is a tendency to act on a whim rather than reason. We may only need a change of pace. The Moon continues its transit of Leo until 9:20 AM EDT, after which the Moon enters Virgo. The Virgo Moon is particular, concerned, and responsible. We’re more focused on the details of our lives than the larger goals. This gives us the chance to manage essential tasks that help fortify and support our endeavors.
The Moon continues its void period until 9:20 AM when it enters Virgo.
AUGUST 3
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Virgo, and we may feel compelled to set our affairs in order. We are putting communications, organizing, and producing in the forefront. Health and work take on greater importance. This morning, a minor square between Mars and Chiron suggests we can be touchy and quick to feel offended or overwhelmed. We can find it difficult to express our anger or desires in a direct, straightforward manner under this influence. Fear of being ineffective can undermine our confidence when it comes to doing new things. The Virgo Moon does help with clarity but not over-sensitivity.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
When the Moon is in Leo
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Leo “This I do for me” is your motto at a time like this. This is your time to shine, like a swirl of starstuff that has finally reached critical mass and suddenly starts to give off more light than it receives. Issues of pride, mastery, and appreciation become more and more central to your lifestream as this cycle progresses, as does a very important lesson: it’s not what you do so much as how you do it, not who you are so much as how you make others feel about themselves. If it doesn’t come from the heart, it shouldn’t matter now.
Mercury in Cancer Gut-level is the way you think, speak, and perceive in the cycle you have just begun. You aren’t interested in the superficial; instead, you want to get right to the root of things. You don’t care about the universal, only about how things impact you and yours. Intellect and emotion mix to the point of inseparability.
Venus in Leo Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired – needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.
Mars in Leo The thrill of the chase, the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd: that’s what gets your juices flowing now that you’ve entered a new cycle. To be appreciated, to be admired (adored, even) – that’s what you crave. It’s a time of creativity, drama, and passion; a time when grabbing the spotlight and stealing the scene gives you a thrill. Is winning everything? No – but it’s way ahead of whatever comes in second!
Jupiter in Sagittarius Faith, optimism, and a yearning to explore all kinds of new horizons: these are some of the focal points in your life at this time. Travel, education, and other ways to stretch your horizons open new doors of opportunity. Religious, philosophical, and cultural matters are likely to have special appeal for you now; transmitting ideas on a broader scale brings gain.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
