The NEW MOON occurs on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at 5:46 AM EDT.
On Sunday morning, the New Moon occurs early in the sign of Leo.
The New Moon in Leo is an excellent time for formulating goals regarding “all things Leo.” We might concentrate on new ways to enhance our romantic life, creative endeavors and hobbies, and relationship with children, as well as to build our self-confidence and healthy pride in ourselves.
Some of Leo’s “lessons” involve taking pride in ourselves as unique individuals, assuming responsibility for our lives, and giving ourselves warmly and generously to others. This New Moon period is an excellent time to meditate upon some of the characteristics of Leo. Keywords for this self-expressive fire sign — such things as proud, magnanimous, generous, hospitable, caring, warm, authoritative, active, and open — are traits that might be incorporated into our personalities. We all have Leo somewhere in our charts. Seek this month (and next) to improve those areas of life. It’s time to awaken the “inner child” in ourselves and to find ways to creatively express ourselves.
With this potent Leo energy, we have the chance to make significant changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. It’s time to make some plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs.
Next month, a New Moon will occur again in the sign of Leo, this time late in the sign, and will be a Solar Eclipse and particularly potent. With the New Moon occurring at the very beginning of the sign of Leo, new beginnings are emphasized. Events occurring now and next month may relate to January and February 2015. With the Sun and Moon applying to a conjunction to Mars, we should watch for prematurity and impulsiveness. However, it can be a courageous, proactive time. The desire to win, initiate, innovate, and take action is strong, particularly when it comes to creative and romantic matters.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 0 degrees and 44 minutes of Leo conjunct the Sun at 0 degrees and 44 minutes of Leo, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 26 to 30 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) and approximately 0 to 6 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Leo; Mercury is in Leo until the 25th, after which Mercury is in Virgo; Venus is in Gemini; Mars is in Leo.
The Sun is in Leo from July 22-August 22. In Leo, the Sun is proud, outgoing, and playful. The Leo Sun is intensely individual—not content with simply being just one of the team. It’s time to shine, add a touch of color and drama to our lives, and perform. Like the flowers and fruit of the season–blossoming and ripened–this is a time when we want to enjoy ourselves and express ourselves. We are more generous and grand in our gestures and attitudes. On the shadow side, we can also be self-centered and vain.
Mercury is in Leo from July 5-25. When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal–and the grander a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do under Mercury in Leo.
Mercury is in Virgo from July 25-August 31 and then September 9-29. When Mercury is in Virgo, precision in speech, thought, and process is now important to us. This is a time when we analyze and decide what is useful and what we deem to be impractical. Mercury feels right at home in Virgo, one of the signs that it rules. Dealing with details is natural and easy now. We need to be careful that we don’t lose perspective if we find ourselves lost in details. We should also be aware of the possibility of expressing ourselves in a too factual manner, so much so that we come across as dry, critical, or unimaginative.
Venus is in Gemini from July 4-31. In Gemini, we have a finger in every pie. Curiosity motivates us on romantic and social levels. “Variety is the spice of life” is the attitude now. We are sociable, communicative, and interested. We can be animated and fun but may also keep our distance on an emotional level. Attractions now may begin with words, as we tend to bond more readily on a mental level with Venus in Gemini. The shadow side of Gemini is fickleness.
Mars is in Leo from July 20-September 5. In Leo, Mars is proud, self-confident, and grand. We are spirited and have grand goals. We go after what we want in a direct, self-assured manner, desiring dramatic results. We prefer not to worry about details, and take the least complicated route to our goals. The sex drive is strong, and passion for life is high.
Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015, to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius here.
Jupiter entered Libra on September 9th, 2016, and will transit Libra until October 10, 2017. Read about Jupiter in Libra here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011 and will transit Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Gemini from July 4-31. In Gemini, Venus is communicative, sociable but emotionally aloof, insatiably curious, and a little bit flighty. Inconsistency with our affections is a strong possibility, but the desire for a meeting of minds is strong and the urge to socialize dominates. Some detachment from our emotions is likely, which may be a breath of fresh air for some. The lines of communication open, although we may only scratch the surface of things. Under this influence, love is playful and lighthearted. Fickleness is the shadow side of Venus in Gemini.
This week: The opposition between Venus and Saturn can be felt on Sunday and Monday and can point to the need to be mature in love. We are assessing our relationships from a practical standpoint. We may feel inhibited when it comes to expressing our feelings. This can be a time when May-December romances are prominent.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Gemini July 4-31.
Venus parallel the Sun July 18-19. A strong desire for harmony and comfort fill us now. We may be moved to express our affections.
Venus quincunx Pluto July 20. This is a time of adjustments and re-assessments in our close personal relationships and/or with regards to our social lives. Issues of power and control can arise. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
Venus parallel Mars July 21-22. Favors romantic and sexual relationships. Intense passions.
Venus opposition Saturn July 23-24. We keep others at arm’s length, unsure of whether we are loved or not. This is a somewhat inhibiting influence when it appears that people value utility over true love. An element of seriousness permeates our love relationships. We may feel criticized and inhibited, unloved and unsatisfied, but our worst enemies may be ourselves and our own fears of getting close to others.
Venus square Chiron July 29-30. Not a commitment-friendly transit. We are somewhat fearful of investing ourselves emotionally in a relationship.
Venus sextile Uranus July 29-30. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, July 23rd, from 2:06 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Leo at 4:35 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, July 25th, from 5:23 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mercury), until the Moon enters Virgo at 6:34 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, July 27th, from 2:32 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Libra at 11:38 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, July 29th, from 5:31 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Uranus), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 8:24 PM EDT.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Venus opposition Saturn. Not a good influence for financial endeavors. Burdens are magnified.
Mercury trine Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue”. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by.
Mercury quincunx Chiron. Decisions can be hard to come by under this influence, as we tend to doubt our perceptions or the effectiveness of our ability to solve problems. It can be hard to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now, which can lead to misunderstandings.
Sun conjunct Mars. This is a vital, dynamic time when we thrive on progress and activity. Our more passionate, aggressive, and courageous natures come to the fore. We are able to creatively solve problems and to instinctively take action when necessary under this influence. Self-assertion is what this transit is about. We are direct and frank, and perhaps short-tempered and impulsive.
Mercury semi-square Jupiter. We experience information overload, and we neglect to consider details. People tend to exaggerate today. Monotonous mental tasks are harder to take under this influence. Our minds are restless.
Mercury sesquiquadrate Pluto. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress and pressure. A troubled mind.
Sun sesquiquadrate Saturn. It’s hard to satisfy the ego today. We feel blocked by circumstances or others. It’s too easy to feel discouraged, but discouragement is a time waster. Gratitude isn’t forthcoming right now, so it’s best to wait it out rather than waste energy letting it get to you.
Note: Times given in the table/calendar above are Eastern Time (ET).

What’s In Store By the Stars – Daily Astrology Trends
(as featured on the site’s main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)
There is also a new Astrology Trends Calendar that includes these daily trends overviews and other astrological events such as ingresses, stations, and lunations.
JULY 23
The Moon completes its transit of Cancer at 4:35 AM EDT and enters Leo. Shortly after the Moon enters Leo, the New Moon occurs (at 5:46 AM) very early in the sign (in the first degree). This lunation is an excellent time for formulating goals regarding “all things Leo.” We might concentrate on new ways to enhance our romantic life, creative endeavors and hobbies, and relationship with children, as well as to build our self-confidence and healthy pride in ourselves. With this strong Leo energy, we have the chance to make significant changes in our lives that will benefit us well beyond this Moon cycle. It’s time to make some plans and set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs. Next month, a New Moon will occur again in the sign of Leo, this time late in the sign, and will be a Solar Eclipse and particularly potent. With the New Moon occurring at the very beginning of the sign of Leo today, there is an emphasis on brand new beginnings. With the Sun and Moon applying to a conjunction to Mars, we should watch for prematurity and impulsiveness. However, it can be a courageous, proactive time. The desire to win, initiate, innovate, and take action is strong, particularly when it comes to creative and romantic matters.
The Moon is void from 2:06 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Leo at 4:35 AM EDT.
JULY 24
The Moon spends the day in Leo, and while we may be riding on the energy of yesterday’s New Moon in the sign, this morning’s Venus-Saturn opposition suggests some negative feedback or blockage can slow us down. Ideally, this is only enough to pace ourselves. We may feel criticized or unsatisfied. Financial limitations may make themselves known. Burdens of our debts or obligations to others are magnified. We may need to pay the piper, or if we’ve been overdoing pleasures, a reminder of our responsibilities comes now. However, a Mercury-Uranus trine opens our minds to out of the ordinary possibilities. Original, creative ideas emerge. We might seek out thoughts, ideas, news, and conversations that lift us above small problems and free our thinking. Even so, a Mercury-Chiron quincunx is tricky and can make decisions hard to come by as we tend to doubt some of our perceptions or the effectiveness of our ability to solve problems. It can be difficult to read the intention behind the words used to communicate now, which can lead to misunderstandings.
JULY 25
The Moon continues its transit of Leo until 6:34 AM EDT when it enters Virgo. The Virgo Moon is practical and helpful. While we can find many things to do and we’re busier than usual, it’s easy to get into a comfortable routine. We want to be useful and productive, and focusing on details seems the best route to making headway. We are analytical, critical, and technical under the influence of a Virgo Moon. The details of daily existence capture our attention more than usual now, and in the coming weeks as well with Mercury’s move into the sign today. Mercury will transit Virgo until August 31st and then again from September 9-29 — a longer stay than usual due to Mercury’s upcoming retrograde from August 12th to September 5th. Mercury feels right at home in Virgo, one of the signs that it rules (the other is Gemini). We aim for more precision in our speech, thoughts, and methods during this cycle. We need to be careful that we don’t lose perspective if we find ourselves lost in details. We should also be aware of the possibility of expressing ourselves in a too factual manner, so much so that we come across as dry, critical, or unimaginative. Otherwise, this is a useful transit, particularly for skill-building, organization, and analysis.
A void of course Moon occurs from 5:23 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Mercury), until the Moon enters Virgo at 6:34 AM EDT.
JULY 26
The Sun and Mars unite today in the sign of Leo, and this can be an especially vital, dynamic time when we thrive on activity and progress. Our more passionate, aggressive, and courageous natures come to the fore. We solve problems creatively, and we instinctively take action. We are direct and frank, and perhaps short-tempered and impulsive. It’s an excellent time to lead, but we should watch for self-centered and egotistical behavior. Passions run high, but remember that sudden urges and desires may be more about internal unrest than inner truth. We’re moving towards a Mercury-Jupiter semi-square that can increase the chances of disagreements. Otherwise, Sun-Mars can give us a nice shot of energy and courage. Competition can be motivating. The Moon is in Virgo all day, and we’re inclined to see the details and flaws around us. Ideally, this encourages us to solve problems. However, we’re unlikely to be content with clerical work or patient with handling details now with the Sun-Mars and Mercury-Jupiter influences dominating the energies of the day.
JULY 27
The Moon continues its transit of Virgo until 11:38 AM EDT when the Moon enters Libra. The Moon’s transit of Libra is conciliatory and relationship-focused. We’re seeking out balance and weighing our options. This evening, the Moon forms a sextile with Mars and the Sun in Leo, picking up and complementing the energies of the separating conjunction of these bodies. We’re open to change and looking for opportunities to initiate and advance. We find it easy and natural to express our feelings through satisfying channels and activities. We’re exceptionally resourceful now, as well as affectionate and expressive in our relationships, willing to take the initiative.
A void of course Moon occurs from 2:32 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Venus), until the Moon enters Libra at 11:38 AM EDT.
JULY 28
The Moon is in Libra all day, stimulating our desire for harmony, balance, and peace, but getting there can involve some conflicts! A Mercury-Pluto dynamic aspect this morning points to difficulties trusting others. We tend to investigate rather than take things at face value. While we can use this energy to develop strategies to get to the bottom of a matter, we should watch for unnecessary stress from making mountains out of molehills. The Moon aligns with Jupiter and forms a square to Pluto later today, pulling up themes of an upcoming Jupiter-Pluto square, exact August 4th, and we can be pushing ourselves too hard or overreaching, feeling pressure to perform, achieve, and advance.
JULY 29
The Sun forms a sesqui-square with Saturn this morning, and we may feel confined, limited, or restricted when it comes to personal plans and self-expression. As the day advances, we move towards a Venus-Uranus sextile and Venus-Chiron square. While there can be some insecurities and blocks to intimacy, the sextile between Venus and Uranus helps bring us out of our shells, encouraging our bolder, more innovative natures, socially speaking. We are most interested in all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements, personal pleasures, and financial undertakings. We may be experimenting, improvising, and trying on new ways of relating to others and expressing ourselves. The Moon continues its transit of compromising Libra until 8:24 PM EDT, after which it moves through the perceptive, passionate sign of Scorpio.
A void of course Moon occurs from 5:31 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Uranus), until the Moon enters Scorpio at 8:24 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
When the Moon is in Leo
The Moon in Leo speaks to our "inner child". It's a warm, generous, whole-heartedly loving position. Pride keeps us from pettiness, but it can also prevent us from opening up and revealing how we are truly feeling. We are on stage, our feelings are grand, and we appreciate some drama in our lives. We are easily threatened by anything that seems to be impersonal. This is a time when we seek attention--when we want to stand out for our special qualities. It's a strong time for romance and any creative activity as well.
The Moon in Leo generally favors the following activities: Creative activities, activities involving children, generous undertakings, undertakings in which personal recognition is desired, and risk-taking.
When the Moon is in Virgo
We instinctually gravitate towards practical activities under the influence of a Virgo Moon. In an urge to set things right, we might easily find ourselves re-organizing and rethinking plans. Emotional satisfaction comes from solving problems, making order out of confusion, and helping others. Health matters might come into focus. We notice the smaller parts that make up the whole, and instead of letting nagging details bother us, we might work on ironing them out so that we can feel more confident moving ahead.
The Moon in Virgo generally favors the following activities: Mental pursuits, work activities, services, and routines. Activities that would benefit from tending to details.
When the Moon is in Libra
Creating order is the focus, not necessarily through tidying or organizing as was the case while the Moon was in Virgo, but rather through pleasing interactions with others and aesthetics in our environment. We tend to solve problems through diplomacy, and we are more able to put aside our own emotions in order to achieve the peace we crave. The tendency now is to avoid direct confrontations. Decisions do not come easily. Seeing both sides to any given situation is the main reason for hesitation. Fear of losing others' approval is another.
The Moon in Libra generally favors the following activities: Relationship and partnership issues, activities involving teamwork and cooperation, activities that involve self-examination, activities related to beauty.
When the Moon is in Scorpio
Intensity is what the Moon in Scorpio is all about. Whether it's passion, elation, sorrow, or desire, emotions are felt on a deeply personal level. We are motivated by the desire to get to the bottom of things, and we instinctively read between the lines. Superficiality won't work for us now. The Moon in Scorpio urges us to uncover our own power, and it's an excellent time to rid ourselves of old fears and limiting habits. It can be an intimate and passionate time. Avoid manipulative tactics, brooding, and suspiciousness.
The Moon in Scorpio generally favors the following activities: Taxes, accounting, intimacy issues, psychological examinations, research, self-examination, getting rid of old things.
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Leo “This I do for me” is your motto at a time like this. This is your time to shine, like a swirl of starstuff that has finally reached critical mass and suddenly starts to give off more light than it receives. Issues of pride, mastery, and appreciation become more and more central to your lifestream as this cycle progresses, as does a very important lesson: it’s not what you do so much as how you do it, not who you are so much as how you make others feel about themselves. If it doesn’t come from the heart, it shouldn’t matter now.
Mercury in Leo The hallmark of the cycle you have just begun is thinking, learning and communicating with style. Intellectual creativity is highlighted, and your social connections have a certain flair of drama to them. Winning the admiration of others for the things you say or write (and the way you do it) takes on more importance in your life.
Mercury in Virgo Mental discipline and patience are keynoted as you enter into a new cycle. Thinking things through, accounting for all the details, making careful measurements: these and similar experiences keep your mind active and involved. An interest in health and work may come to the fore.
Venus in Gemini Saying (or writing) it with style comes natural now. A yen for variety is a hallmark of this phase, and this especially applies to romantic experience and artistic tastes. (The latter tends to focus on literature in general and poetry in particular.) A sociable, congenial, slightly frivolous orientation sets in.
Mars in Leo The thrill of the chase, the smell of the greasepaint, the roar of the crowd: that’s what gets your juices flowing now that you’ve entered a new cycle. To be appreciated, to be admired (adored, even) – that’s what you crave. It’s a time of creativity, drama, and passion; a time when grabbing the spotlight and stealing the scene gives you a thrill. Is winning everything? No – but it’s way ahead of whatever comes in second!
Jupiter in Libra The ties that bind, the harmonious integration of opposites, the perfect balance: these are the keys to your greatest opportunities now. Marriage and other close personal relationships tend to offer bright prospects, and you have a deep yearning to experience the fulfillment they can bring.
Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.” Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
