The LAST QUARTER MOON occurs on Friday, July 6, 2018, at 3:51 AM EDT.
Early Friday, the Last Quarter Moon is exact, when the Sun in Cancer forms a square with the Moon in Aries. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to some sort of crisis of consciousness. After basking in the awareness symbolized by the full light of the Moon at the time of last week’s Full Moon, we disperse our knowledge and come to a point when we need to sort out what works for us–and what doesn’t–in preparation for next week’s New Moon, when something new is born once again.
This is not the best time to start a major project, as the decreasing light of the Moon symbolizes a descent into unconsciousness. It’s time to begin finishing up the details of that which was conceived at the last New Moon. What revelations did you have last week? What did they mean for you? What can be done now?
This phase of the Moon occurs at 14 degrees and 13 minutes of Aries forming a square to the Sun at 14 degrees and 13 minutes Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 12 to 16 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.
The FULL MOON occurred in the sign of Capricorn on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at 12:53 AM EDT.
Very early Thursday, a Full Moon occurred when the Cancer Sun opposes the Moon in Capricorn. The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the promise of fulfillment of that which was started at the New Moon. It is an emotional time–a time of romance, fertilization, and relationships.
The Cancer-Capricorn polarity concerns the balance between the private life, domesticity, the need for a home base, and nurturance (represented by Cancer) versus the public life, career, reputation, and accountability (represented by Capricorn). Attachments and love are ruled by Cancer, while achievements and rewards/punishments are ruled by Capricorn. In some ways, this polarity deals with the balance between unconditional love and conditional love. Cancer encourages us to value our home base and our roots, while Capricorn persuades us to consider our sense of duty and responsibility along public or professional lines. While Cancer may be content to be dependent, Capricorn urges us to be grown-up and responsible. Cancer represents the origin, and Capricorn represents the goal.
Neglecting either end of the axis will surely backfire on us. Ideally, a balance should be found between the two energies, and this is what the Full Moon invites us to do. This Full Moon is about balancing our commitment to our career and families. Something has been building inside of us, and now is the time when the energy of the cosmos fairly demands that we let it out. Over the next two weeks, we will discover what this means for us. For now, we can’t sit on our feelings. We need to express them.
The Full Moon illuminates this conflict between roots and direction. With the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives. However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as there is a sense of emotions bursting forth into our consciousness. It’s time to express ourselves and to let things out of our systems. Of course, we might want to exercise some care while doing so, knowing that what is coming out of us is fresh, unrefined, and not particularly rational as yet. This Full Moon aligns with Saturn and trines Uranus, suggesting somewhat sober realizations that we can nevertheless make work for us. There may be a tough decision or choice, reality check, or we may feel some pressure to make changes.
This phase of the Moon occurred at 6 degrees and 28 minutes of Capricorn opposing the Sun at 6 degrees and 28 minutes of Cancer, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 2 to 10 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Cancer; Mercury is in Leo; Venus is in Leo; Mars is in Aquarius.
The Sun is in Cancer from June 21-July 22. We are self-protective and insular under this influence. Our attention turns to our nest–our families, homes, and anything that makes us feel “at home”, safe, and secure. Nurturing and taking care of our loved ones and our pet projects come into focus. Emotions run deep. We are more susceptible to the ups and downs of the Moon while the Sun is in Cancer.
Mercury is in Leo from June 29-September 5. When Mercury is in Leo, our thinking is more confident and grand. The focus is now on the goal–and the grander a goal the better! The details may not be quite as important now. We are more expressive, even theatrical and given to speech-giving and story-telling under this influence. We are also more convincing and persuasive, as we exude confidence when we speak or write. We may not listen as well as we normally do under Mercury in Leo.
Venus is in Leo from June 13-July 9. Love is magnificent and grand. We take pride in love, and we are generous with our money as well. This is a warmhearted, teasing, expressive, proud, and extravagant placement for Venus. Love is a bit of a game–a game that is perpetual, as Venus in Leo is forever stuck in the romance stage of a relationship. We feed on attention, acknowledgment, validation, and adoration. Venus in Leo loves to be adored, pampered, and admired. Pride and passion are hallmarks of this cycle. We have a strong ego investment in our love lives during this period. The negative expression of this placement is overstating our feelings simply for the effect, as well as extravagance.
Mars is in Aquarius from May 16-August 12 and September 10-November 15. Dynamic yet erratic energy levels, achieving our goals through hit or miss tactics, and impersonal expression of anger are characteristics of Mars in Aquarius. We are team players–cooperative and less concerned about personal power. We are attracted to unconventional methods and tend to approach problems from an intellectual, detached perspective.
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Jupiter entered Scorpio on October 10th, 2017, and will remain in the sign until November 8th, 2018. Read about Jupiter in Scorpio transit here.
Uranus entered Taurus on May 15, 2018, and will transit Taurus until November 6, 2018, and then from March 6, 2019, to 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011, and will transit Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Leo from June 13-July 9. Love is magnificent and grand!
This week: Sunday can be a little stark overall for our social interactions. Adjustments need to be made before things flow smoothly. While there are strong indicators of cooperation and mutual respect on Wednesday and Thursday, there can be some fireworks related to buried frustrations that can emerge as disagreements.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Leo June 13-July 9.Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired – needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.
Venus quincunx Pluto June 30-July 1. This is a time of adjustments and re-assessments in our close personal relationships and/or with regards to our social lives. Issues of power and control can arise. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
Venus trine Uranus July 11. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, July 1st, from 6:57 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Venus), until the Moon enters Pisces the next day, Monday, July 2nd, at 1:32 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Wednesday, July 4th, from 5:47 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Thursday, July 5th, at 12:50 AM EDT.
VOC Moon on Saturday, July 7th, from 3:09 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Venus), until the Moon enters Taurus at 8:51 AM EDT.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Venus quincunx Pluto. This is a time of adjustments and re-assessments in our close personal relationships and/or with regards to our social lives. Issues of power and control can arise. Unreasonable or irrational fears of loss, or jealousy, could also emerge.
Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn. There may be difficulties relating to others under this influence. People may be cool with their affections and emotionally distant. Avoid new financial undertakings, as they may prove to be “money pits” as time passes. There may be anxiety or troubles with regards to matters concerned with the feelings. Romantic disappointments, unrequited love, separations, and broken engagements are the more negative manifestations. We tend to lack social confidence at this time and adopt a shy, formal, or reserved social manner. This transit is best used for reflection.
Mercury quincunx Saturn. Communication challenges today make it hard to get a point across. Delays, “red tape”, and vague feelings of forgetting important details.
Sun trine Jupiter. This influence is about growth and expansiveness. We are more aware of moral issues, and have a desire to improve and learn. Optimism and confidence are basic elements in the energy of this transit. We are more willing to take a risk or two, and we are motivated by a desire to impress others. Enthusiasm runs high, and cooperation comes easy. This is generally a good time to schedule new beginnings in business, education, personal relationships, marriage, creative projects, and so forth, all things equal.
Mercury opposition Mars. We may be quick on the trigger when it comes to verbal reactions to others, and we may seriously lack diplomacy at this time. People may do the opposite of what they are told or what they think is best! This is not the best time to take a trip. However, this transit stimulates the desire to work and to produce.

JULY 1
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Aquarius, stimulating our desire to connect. Venus forms a couple of minor challenging aspects today, suggesting an interruption of flow in our social lives, however. Our perceptions are skewed by fears and insecurities now. There can be a tendency to second-guess feelings, relationships, and even purchases with Venus quincunx Pluto this morning. This is a time of adjustments and reassessments in our relationships, with spending or entertainment, or with regards to our social lives. Fears and jealousy can emerge, seemingly out of nowhere, and they can push us to see our emotional blind spots. We may be taking our relationships, interactions, exchanges, and pleasures more seriously with the Venus-Saturn influence and perhaps taking this too far to the point that we feel awkward or emotionally distant. We’re not feeling especially natural, and our social confidence can decrease now. We might be seeing the less flattering side of people or relationships. Small obstacles or hurdles require patience. This is a better influence for working with details and ironing out problems than it is for bigger decision-making or planning.
The Moon is void from 6:57 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Venus), until the Moon enters Pisces tomorrow, Monday, July 2nd, at 1:32 PM EDT.
JULY 2
The Moon continues void and in the sign of Aquarius until 1:32 PM EDT, after which the Moon is in Pisces. While a Pisces Moon encourages us to break down barriers, a Mercury-Saturn quincunx today can have us worried about same. This influence can point to communication challenges that make it hard to get the point across, or to get from one place to the next without hassle. It can also lead to mental blocks or difficult decisions as we tend to doubt ourselves (and others) and whether we have all the details we need to make good, practical choices. Sensitivity to what’s said or not communicated can run high today.
The Moon is void until 1:32 PM EDT when it enters Pisces.
JULY 3
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Pisces, aligning with Neptune and forming trine aspects to the Sun in Cancer and Jupiter in Scorpio. We’re in particularly good shape for compassionate feelings and interactions, learning something new and inspiring, and sharing inspirational stories. We demonstrate increased tolerance and cooperation. A Uranus-Ceres trine is excellent for innovation in our work, with health, and methods, in general. This is a good time for discovering new and possibly improved ways of relating, nurturing, and healing. Group settings might also encourage these things. Allowing our loved ones more freedom to be themselves can be in focus.
JULY 4
With Chiron stationary and turning retrograde, we might feel flooded with energies that are hard to make sense of, and thus important decision-making is best avoided for the time being, as our thinking can be a little skewed. Mars is retrograde, too, further reinforcing a need to take it slowly with decision-making. It’s better not to jump to conclusions. However, while the station can bring some feelings of overwhelm, Chiron’s retrograde cycle itself, which lasts until December 9th, is a good time for introspection. We might reassess mental and physical health programs in our lives during this period. We’re heading towards a Sun-Jupiter trine, which promotes a generous, warm, open-minded, and open-handed approach today. We’re tolerant, cooperative, and give one another the benefit of the doubt. This is a beautiful aspect for camaraderie. We’re also moving towards a Mercury-Mars opposition, however, which can introduce some tensions related to bottled up resentment or anger and possible technical problems and issues that seem to slow things down. Watch for sharp words and errors in judgment now. The Moon in Pisces is void much of the day, from 5:47 AM EDT forward, suggesting it’s an ideal time to take a break.
The Moon is void from 5:47 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Pluto), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Thursday, July 5th, at 12:50 AM EDT.
JULY 5
The Moon ends its transit of Pisces at 12:50 AM EDT when it enters Aries. The Moon in Aries is assertive, impulsive or spontaneous, and brave. The Sun forms a trine to Jupiter this morning, stimulating hope, optimism, and a desire to improve, impress, and do good (or the right) things. We are seeking to grow and expand a venture, a relationship, our knowledge, personal philosophy or self-improvement program. Enthusiasm runs high, and cooperation comes easily. We might make grand gestures, show off a little, or simply feel that we’re above petty problems and differences. However, Mercury opposes retrograde Mars this morning – an aspect that occurs approximately every two years. We can be quick on the trigger when it comes to verbal reactions to others under this influence. We can feel pressured to get things done quickly, and the pace is hectic. We can be agitated, competitive, combative, and argumentative, talking over others and/or communicating things that agitate and stir up controversy. Recent nervous tension can reach a release point, and this can be messy at first, but ultimately clears the air. With Uranus and Juno aligned tonight, we’re motivated to be true to ourselves, and we’re emphasizing our unique qualities. We may be leveraging our ability to lead and inspire now. This can be a time of dynamic, positive group activities, and there can be especially friendly energy in our relationships. We can be together and give one another space at the same time, accepting and respecting individuality. Interactions are fresh, progressive, and inspiring.
The Moon is void until 12:50 AM EDT when it enters Aries.
JULY 6
The Last Quarter Moon is exact early today when the Sun in Cancer forms a square with the Moon in Aries. The Last Quarter Moon phase points to a crisis of consciousness of sorts. It’s excellent, however, for vision and maturity. Both Venus and Mercury form creative biquintiles, stimulating clever thinking and maneuvering. This is a potentially brilliant day for strategies and plans. The Moon spends the day in the sign of pioneering Aries.
JULY 7
The Moon continues its transit of enterprising Aries until 8:51 AM EDT, after which it travels through stable Taurus. With a Taurus Moon, we crave comfort and predictability, and its trine to Saturn today provides these things. However, the Moon also aligns with Uranus, and we’d be wise to embrace some level of change and progress. With the Moon’s square to Mars tonight, it can be all too easy for frustrations or impatience to interfere with these goals. The Sun’s contra-parallel to Saturn suggests we become especially aware of our responsibilities, commitments, and limitations today, mainly through our interactions with others.
The Moon is void from 3:09 AM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Venus), until the Moon enters Taurus at 8:51 AM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Cancer Being more in touch with your emotional roots is a keynote of the cycle that now takes hold in your life. This has to do with feelings, but it’s more than that: it’s about making the things you feel and care about a reality. At some levels, this means a greater focus on family life – parents, children, relatives, the whole domestic scene. On a somewhat broader scale, you’re likely to find that houses and other real property take on greater significance for you. Nurturing is where it’s at in your life now: making things grow and taking care of them, planting seeds that will develop and survive far into the future – that’s what it’s all about.
Mercury in Leo The hallmark of the cycle you have just begun is thinking, learning and communicating with style. Intellectual creativity is highlighted, and your social connections have a certain flair of drama to them. Winning the admiration of others for the things you say or write (and the way you do it) takes on more importance in your life.
Venus in Leo Romance becomes an end in itself as a new cycle begins for you. It marks a time when love, creativity, and self-expression satisfy a deep yearning to be appreciated and admired – needed, even. A flashy, flirty, stylish splash of color and warmth.
Mars in Aquarius The reformer, the inventor, the engineer, the revolutionary – these are important archetypes for you as a new cycle gets underway in your life. They are icons of the ambitions that stir you at a time like this. Independence, freedom from past patterns, and a daring readiness to innovate: such are the paths of achievement for you now.
Jupiter in Scorpio The phase now beginning for you emphasizes fixing what is broken or unhealthy, thereby giving it a new lease on life. This is more than one person alone can handle, so the cooperation of others is essential. You give up something in order to get or create something, and you may not understand the reasons why at the time. Sex, money, power, and vitality become key issues.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
