The NEW MOON occurs on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at 10:32 AM EST.
On Sunday morning, the New Moon in Pisces occurs at 10:32 AM EST, and marks the beginning of a new cycle. The Aquarius New Moon cycle ends and the Pisces New Moon cycle begins. The New Moon in Pisces is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Fish. These include taking a leap of faith, accepting imperfections in ourselves and in others as a different kind of “perfection,” starting a project that requires imagination and visualization skills, consciously putting time aside for peaceful and rejuvenating activities, and sharing a dream with another. With this potent Pisces energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives.
This New Moon harmonizes with Mars and Uranus, and we’re welcoming fresh energy and new ways of handling our lives and emotions. Mercury is retrograde and close to this lunation, and some backtracking or lack of clarity is likely.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 4 degrees and 29 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 0 to 8 degrees of the Mutable signs most significantly (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces).

This week: The Sun is in Pisces; Mercury is in Pisces; Venus is in Aries; Mars is in Capricorn.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 19/20. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
Mercury is in Pisces from February 3-March 4 and then March 16-April 11. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
Venus is in Aries from February 7-March 4. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now. Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
Mars is in Capricorn from February 16-March 30. Mars in Capricorn is deliberate, persistent energy. We consider the future and the consequences before taking action during this cycle. Our energy is reliable and faithful. We are slow to anger, but can be quite cold if we are frustrated. The shadow side of Mars in Capricorn is rigidity.
Jupiter entered Capricorn on December 2nd, 2019, and will transit the sign until December 19th, 2020. Read more about the Jupiter in Capricorn transit.
Saturn transits Capricorn until March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Uranus is in Taurus. Uranus first transited Taurus from May 15, 2018, to November 6, 2018, and is now consistently in the sign (since March 6th, 2019) until 2025/6. We approach money and personal possessions in new ways and learn how to free ourselves from certain material constraints. Innovative ways to make ourselves comfortable emerge. We’re less inhibited about expressing sensuality, self-love, body love, and pampering. We’re challenging what we previously valued during this cycle. There can be abrupt changes with money, valuables, possessions, and income that lead to a reshuffling of priorities or values. Income might come from non-traditional sources or ventures. We’re bringing progressive ideas to the world of business. New ways of doing business, as well as making, viewing, and handling money are likely. Income and the energy we put into making money can be variable.
Romance & Relationships
This week: On Sunday, feelings of elation can cloud our judgment, and we may end up overstating our feelings or promising a little too much. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we might misrepresent our feelings, or we can be especially sensitive to what’s being communicated now. On Friday, insecurities about not being “in the know” or fears of having the rug pulled from under our feet in our relationships can be stimulated. It might be difficult to get close to one another under these conditions, but with self-honesty, it can be a good time to get in touch with our vulnerability.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Venus square Jupiter February 22-23. We experience a strong desire for more pleasure in our lives, which can be excessive. Take care not to overstate your feelings or to set up unrealistic expectations in your partnerships. As well, take what your partner says with a grain of salt. There is no malicious intent involved, but feelings of elation can cloud our judgment, and we can promise more than we can deliver.
Venus semi-square Mercury February 25-26. Communications between lovers may feel superficial or unsatisfying, and perhaps awkward. We may be especially sensitive to what’s being communicated now.
Venus square Pluto February 28. Intense passions, but there’s a hidden agenda. Jealousy and possessiveness are high, in direct proportion to fear of losing partnership. Avoid starting a new relationship at this time, because it can be characterized by these energies.
Venus square Saturn March 2-3. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus sextile Mercury March 3-4. Favors playfulness in love and enhanced communication between partners. Romantic overtures, expressions of love and affection, making new social contacts. This is a time when promises, pledges, and clarifications (usually very positive!) are made in love relationships.
Venus semi-square Sun March 4. Inner discontent can spill over into our relationships, producing subtle tension. It’s best to get in touch with our needs and yearnings instead of overindulging or procastinating.
Venus semi-square Neptune March 7. Romantic confusion as well as relationship ups and downs. Self-deceptions may come to light now.
Venus conjunct Uranus March 7-8. We have a taste for the unusual and the avant garde. We are itching for a change. What makes a person unique is more attractive under this influence. Excitement and newness are valued over permanence in social relationships. Freedom is more important than intimacy just now. We lose our fears of taking risks in love and social situations. Romantic infatuations, gossip, unanticipated opportunities socially or financially. We have a greater need for self-expression, personal freedom, and social excitement.
Venus sextile North Node March 8-9. There is a stronger desire to connect to and belong with others at this time. We are more obliging and sociable.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During the Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Friday, February 21st, from 11:08 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Pisces on Sunday, February 23rd, at 1:37 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, February 25th, from 9:12 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries at 1:47 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, February 27th, from 10:25 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Taurus on Friday, February 28th, at 2:30 AM EST.
February 2020:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week only until the New Moon on February 23rd, which is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. The Moon is waxing after the New Moon on February 23rd, which is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, also with exceptions (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details).
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs from Monday, February 24th, at approximately 2:50 PM EST, until Tuesday, February 25th, at 9:10 AM EST, while the Moon is in Pisces. Caveats: the first approximately 7 hours of this window put us still a bit too close to the New Moon, and Mercury is still retrograde. Another window occurs from approximately 2:35 AM EST on Friday, February 28th, until Sunday, March 1st, at approximately 10:50 AM EST, while the Moon is in Taurus. Caveat: Mercury is retrograde during this window. This window is better after Venus squares Pluto, from 6 PM forward on the 28th.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Venus square Jupiter. Feelings of elation in love or with regards to the pleasures of life can lead us to overdo, overindulge, overspend, and overstate our feelings. Avoid hasty (or haughty!) decisions. We might take great strides to get noticed. Avoid impulsive buying. We may also feel lazy and we are inclined to procrastinate.
Mercury semi-square Pluto. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress, trouble, or pressure.
Sun sextile Mars. We are able to creatively solve problems and to instinctively take action when necessary under this influence. Stress is eased as we feel confident about our abilities and our judgment. We are more able to assert ourselves without rubbing people the wrong way.
Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!
Mercury sextile Mars. Mental alertness, enthusiasm, and energetic communications figure now. Quick decisions can be made. We are productive and take “busy-ness” in stride. We are alert and aware, and can easily turn ideas into workable projects.
Mercury semi-square Venus. Difficulties in social or romantic communication are possible today. On the other hand, we may make more efforts to be polite and to communicate. Hypersensitivity, and lack of mental discipline. Our minds wander.
Sun semi-square Pluto. A tendency to want to control our lives through some form of manipulation is strong during this influence. Meeting with obstacles in our paths, however, can force us into the position of using all of our resources to fight back, and we can discover resources we never knew we had in the process.
Mercury semi-square Jupiter. We experience information overload, and we neglect to consider details. People tend to exaggerate today. Monotonous mental tasks are harder to take under this influence. Our minds are restless.
Venus square Pluto. Intense passions, but there’s a hidden agenda. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness run high, in direct proportion to fear of losing partnership. Avoid starting a new relationship at this time, because it can be characterized by these energies. Social interactions may be intense or could provoke intense feelings. Changes in financial status or relationships may occur now. Emotions and issues in a close relationship that have been brewing beneath the surface for quite awhile come to the surface at this time, possibly in a very disruptive way. All of our relationships intensify and we need to be aware of a tendency to act in a rather compulsive, demanding way towards others. This is an “all or nothing” energy. Manipulative behavior, fear of betrayal, and power struggles are possible.
Mercury sextile Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue”. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding.

FEBRUARY 23
The New Moon occurs this morning at 10:33 AM EST in the sign of Pisces. We’re motivated to carve out time for peaceful and rejuvenating activities or to entertain a dream and perhaps share it with someone special. With this potent Pisces energy, we have the chance to make essential changes in our lives. This lunation occurs at the midpoint of Mars and Uranus, and we’re excited about making progress. Even so, with Mercury still retrograde in Pisces, there can be some delays or backtracking to deal with before we see forward motion. A Venus-Jupiter square today can point to much enthusiasm and some extravagance. This transit can have the effect of exaggerating or expanding our affections, and this state of mind can lead to overdoing, overstating our feelings, and overindulging. However, if we keep this in check, it can be a useful time for entertaining new ideas and approaches related to pleasure, money, and love. This influence generates friendly but not very disciplined energy. Retrograde Mercury’s semi-square to Pluto can create some tension if we insist on trying to find the truth of a matter.
The Moon ends its lengthy void period when it enters Pisces today at 1:37 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 24
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Pisces, harmonizing with Jupiter, and we’re seeking to grow, expand, and improve. The Sun and Mars form a sextile today, boosting our confidence further, and stimulating a strong desire to take action and to pursue our passions. We can feel energized, particularly about tying up loose ends or dealing with financial matters. There is a sense that we can accomplish much, and a good sense of timing as well–we’re especially enterprising and resourceful under this influence. Stress eases as we feel confident about our abilities and our judgment. We are more able to assert ourselves without rubbing people the wrong way.
FEBRUARY 25
Retrograde Mercury aligns with the Sun today, and this is an excellent time for new insights into old problems or situations. There can be some excitement about new beginnings, although we’re not yet sure where we’re going with our ideas. It’s a favorable time for processing recent events and ideas, and for beginning to look at problems or issues from a different perspective and with a new understanding. What we say or write now has an impact, for better or for worse! We might birth significant new ideas, and they can have real staying power or importance in our lives. We could be fighting for something that no longer supports our growth, but overall, we have a sense of what’s right for us today. The Sun formed a sextile with Mars yesterday, and Mercury is now approaching a sextile to Mars, exact early tomorrow. We can have a strong desire to do something with our ideas, to learn, to teach, or to discuss (energetically). We are exceptionally alert and aware, although possibly self-focused. There is enthusiasm in our conversations, as well as excitement about our interests and discoveries.
The void Moon occurs from 9:12 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Saturn), until the Moon enters Aries at 1:47 PM EST.
FEBRUARY 26
The Moon is in energetic Aries all day. Shortly into the day, Mercury forms a sextile to Mars, and we’re both ingenious and enthusiastic–we speak our minds! However, retrograde Mercury forms a semi-square to Venus this morning, and we can be particularly sensitive to words expressed. We may be in two minds about a matter–decisions can be hard to come by. It’s not easy to concentrate under this influence, and we can be quite sensitive to what we feel people mean in their communications. Nevertheless, we’re likely to connect with information or people that/who encourage us to grow and improve, and we’re making an extra effort to cooperate, especially as the day advances.
FEBRUARY 27
The Moon spends another full day in the sign of Aries, and we’re seeking a fresh start–to be first or to start something new. We can be in a self-starting frame of mind. The first half of the day is potentially favorable for guilty pleasures, feel-good and uncomplicated activities (particularly physical), and first moves on a social level. As the day advances, we might discover that we have either set the bar too high or misjudged the amount of time necessary to reach our goals. We should also watch for a tendency to try to force matters with the Sun semi-square Pluto, exact early tomorrow. Tensions can surface if we’ve been holding onto worries and concerns. The more we bottle up, the more pressure builds.
The void Moon occurs from 10:25 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Saturn), until the Moon enters Taurus on Friday, February 28th, at 2:30 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 28
The Moon heads into the sign of Taurus this morning at 2:30 AM EST. With this transit, common sense rules regarding domestic matters, money, and business. A Venus-Pluto square can accentuate or stimulate our insecurities, however, bringing suspicions and jealousies to the surface. Jealous and possessive feelings are in direct proportion to fear of losing something or someone. Our fears of betrayal or of being in the dark about a matter are working close to the surface. It can be too easy to trigger sensitive points, but what works us up can be very revealing to those of us on a journey of self-discovery. Social interactions may be intense or could provoke intense feelings. Changes in financial status or relationships may occur now. We should be conscious of a tendency to act in a compulsive or demanding way towards others. Mercury’s sextile to Uranus tonight helps clue us into original, creative ideas. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in innovative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding.
The Moon continues its void period until it enters Taurus today at 2:30 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 29
The Moon spends the day in the sign of Taurus, bringing us down to earth. The Moon in Taurus is content, earthy, and sensible. With the Moon’s trine to Jupiter, we’re making the most of our circumstances, and then some. We’re seeking more satisfaction, but we’re happy to create it with what we already have. We’re in great shape for understanding, teaching, absorbing, learning, and applying our knowledge. We tend to connect to a higher purpose and may enjoy a feeling of well-being today. We’re also demonstrating increased tolerance and cooperation.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
Mars in Capricorn With this new cycle taking hold in your life now, taking charge and being in control become more important issues for you. You want to get things organized, and you have the initiative to do it. This is a time of ambition and responsibility, a time to keep your cool and pace yourself. Working hard is smart, but working smart is better.
Jupiter in Capricorn Respect, status, and achievement are central goals for you as a new phase begins in your life. Creating a structure to empower and maintain your ideals and principles becomes a high priority, an article of faith. By taking on greater responsibilities of this kind, you become an inspiration to others. Ambition unlimited always ends in defeat.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Taurus Practicality and ingenuity combine as powerful drives in your life now that you have begun a new cycle. Taking innovative concepts and making them real and practical is your strong suit; getting stuck in the mud is to be avoided at all costs. Financial savvy, inventiveness, worldly genius.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
