A FIRST QUARTER MOON occurs on Friday, February 23rd, 2018, at 3:09 AM EST.
Early Friday morning, a First Quarter Moon occurs, when the Sun in Pisces forms a square with the Moon in Gemini. There is a crisis theme surrounding any quarter Moon phase, as we feel compelled to take action. Shortly after, we are made aware of how our actions affect those close to us, perhaps through trial and error. Whatever project or initiative we began around the New Moon is now off the ground, and it may face its first obstacles.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 4 degrees and 39 minutes of Gemini forming a square with the Sun at 4 degrees and 39 minutes of Pisces, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 3 to 7 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.
The NEW MOON/SOLAR ECLIPSE occurred on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at 4:06 PM EST. On Thursday afternoon, the New Moon occurred in the sign of Aquarius. As a Solar Eclipse, its effects can impact the coming six months. In the sign of Aquarius, friendship, fellowship, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, humanitarian efforts, or joining a group can be in sharp focus, prompting new beginnings with these matters.
This eclipse aligns with Mercury, forms a sextile with Uranus, and loosely squares Jupiter. This is a time for seeing the facts or results more clearly, but we should watch for a tendency to go overboard with our expectations or promises. As a Venus-Saturn sextile occurs at the same time of the eclipse, we are bound to remember what’s promised now for some time. This is a period when we might solve problems that require thinking “outside of the box”; look to the future with a brand new, positive, and hopeful vision; brainstorm and socialize; focus on extending a friendly hand, receiving support, or expressing platonic love for those around us; give our emotions and passions a “break”, as we develop more objectivity and some detachment from past haunts; learn how something (or someone) works; revitalize ourselves through experiences that are new or simply different; reach out to people in our social circle and in our community; and recognize the value of our friendships and social networks.
Some level of detachment and distancing ourselves from our habits and attachment to the past can help us break away from destructive behaviors that are holding us back. With this potent Aquarius energy, we have the chance to make progressive changes in our lives. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters. Flaws in an important system in our lives are revealed around the time of the eclipse, prompting us to redo or to start fresh. Something ends in order for something else to start anew. Major developments in the personal areas ruled by Aquarius are likely to occur over the course of the coming months. Read more about the current eclipses.
This phase of the Moon occurred at 27 degrees and 8 minutes of Aquarius, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately and 21 to 30 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) and 0 to 3 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Aquarius until February 18th, when the Sun enters Pisces; Mercury is in Pisces; Venus is in Pisces; Mars is in Sagittarius.
The Sun is in Aquarius from January 19-February 18, 2018. During this cycle, we are motivated by our hunger for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. We become more aware of what is outdated in our lives and strive to find new perspectives and new ways to do things. The class distinctions, structure, and order that Capricorn finds appealing now seem to be too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us. We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe.
The Sun is in Pisces from February 18-March 20th. With the Sun in Pisces, we are guided by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and we are guided by a sense of universal correlations. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side rules self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness.
Mercury is in Pisces from February 17-March 6. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
Venus is in Pisces from February 10-March 6. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach nevertheless, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be victimized or deluded, as well as evasiveness.
Mars is in Sagittarius from January 26-March 17. With a Sagittarius Mars, our actions are motivated by our ideals. We are bothered by routine, quickly becoming restless if we feel confined. We have a love of adventure, and of conquest–this is the position of wanderlust. We start projects or challenges with gusto, although we may tend to abandon them rather quickly. This may be because we set our sights too high!
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Jupiter entered Scorpio on October 10th, 2017, and will remain in the sign until November 8th, 2018. Read about Jupiter in Scorpio transit here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011, and will transit Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Pisces from February 10-March 6. A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
This week: On Sunday and Monday, questions of freedom, change, specialness, and experimentation are raised in our relationships. We may only need a little bit of space or a fresh approach to relating to refresh us now. We can be restless and may be torn between wanting comfort and togetherness and desiring a little more freedom and independence. Venus’ yearly alignment with Neptune occurs this year on Tuesday and Wednesday, and we’re especially sensitive to and aware of beauty and spirituality. We’re seducible and can be seductive. This can be a psychically open time, but also a period when we may be seeing what we want to see rather than what is. This can be a highly romantic time when we feel more compassion to one another.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus sextile Saturn February 15. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor.
Venus contra-parallel Uranus February 17-18. Questions of freedom, change, specialness, and experimentation are raised in our relationships.
Venus semi-square Uranus February 18-19. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
Venus conjunct Neptune February 20-21. New and fresh beginnings on romantic levels characterize this transit. Heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion.
Venus square Mars February 24-25. Passions run high under this influence. Sexual tensions and competitiveness are possible, and there can be conflicts that arise from distinct differences between romantic and sexual needs. There is an air of competitiveness under this influence, which need not be difficult. It can be stimulating, creative, passionate, and invigorating.
Venus sextile Pluto February 26-27. Subtly powerful and uplifting time for romantic/sexual relationships. New insights into relationships and love. Strong attractions.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Saturday, February 17th, from 5:14 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Sunday, February 18th, at 7:05 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, February 20th, from 6:11 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Uranus), until the Moon enters Taurus at 2:12 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, February 22nd, from 6:46 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Gemini at 7:07 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, February 24th, from 2:58 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Uranus), until the Moon enters Cancer at 10:06 PM EST.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Venus semi-square Uranus. Unusual attractions (to people and things) can have us acting on a whim. We may deal with freedom versus closeness issues in our relationships. Avoid impulse buys at this time, and hold off on decision-making with regards to finances. Some instability, restlessness, and rebelliousness is probable in romantic relationships. We may not see eye to eye with a loved one, and we could be taken off guard by unexpected events. This is not a favorable aspect for beauty treatments because they could have unexpected results.
Mercury semi-square Pluto. “Suspicious minds” characterize this transit, although if we harness the energy, we can develop strategies to get to the bottom of any matter. Mistrust, investigations. Some level of mental stress, trouble, or pressure.
Venus conjunct Neptune. New and fresh beginnings on creative levels characterize this transit. Heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance today. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion.
Mercury sextile Saturn. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now will have tangible results in the future.
Mercury semi-square Uranus. We can have flashes of insight, but tend to be scatterbrained. Our ideas and communications may not be well-received because they don’t seem to others to carry weight. Our minds are not peaceful or harmonious under this influence, and irritable tempers, sarcastic speech, and dogmatism are negative expressions of this energy.
Sun semi-square Pluto. A tendency to want to control our lives through some form of manipulation is strong during this influence. Meeting with obstacles in our paths, however, can force us into the position of using all of our resources to fight back, and we can discover resources we never knew we had in the process.

FEBRUARY 18
Mercury just entered the sign of Pisces last night, and today, the Sun enters Pisces, too, where it will transit until March 20th. With the Sun in Pisces, we are motivated by altruistic feelings. We are less motivated to do than we are to feel, imagine, and dream. A “what will be, will be” attitude reigns, and a sense of universal correlations guides us. Pisces rules empathy, selfless love, devotion, and wisdom. Its shadow side includes self-pity, a feeling of being victimized by life, passivity, and elusiveness. The Moon moves into Aries this morning, however, and we’re revving up, emotionally ready for action. A Venus-Uranus semi-square is building, exact tomorrow, and we can find ourselves following whims or restless until we recognize the need to freshen up our relationships or pastimes.
The Moon is void until the Moon enters Aries today at 7:05 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 19
The Moon is in Aries all day, and we’re excited about new beginnings, and we’re ready to take the initiative. Mars and the North Node for a trine today, also in Fire signs, and challenges or some light competitiveness motivate us. We have the chance to reassess our goals and realign ourselves with our purpose. There is a sense that we’re heading in the right direction or that we want to take steps to grow and improve. New opportunities abound to help us achieve our desires. Also today, a Venus-Pallas sextile assists us socially. In our dealings with one another, we’re focused on being fair and balanced. We’re in great shape artistically, particularly with design.
FEBRUARY 20
The Moon continues its transit of Aries until 2:12 PM EST, aligning with Uranus this morning, and our feelings and desires are fiery, immediate, and hard to ignore. This afternoon, the Moon moves into Taurus, later harmonizing with the Pisces Sun, and we seek out more calm and cooperation. With tonight’s semi-square between Mercury and Pluto, however, we may be suspicious or feel pressure to know the truth about a matter. There can be difficulty getting our message across or winning support for our ideas with Pallas and Chiron forming a semi-square. We might also be sensitive to imbalances, perhaps feeling that we’re mistreated under this influence. Thinking may be a little troubled or chaotic now, but we’re moving towards a Mercury-Saturn sextile, exact tomorrow afternoon, that helps us sort out our thoughts, plans, and priorities.
The Moon is void from 6:11 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Uranus), until the Moon enters Taurus at 2:12 PM EST.
FEBRUARY 21
A conjunction of Venus and Neptune happens today in the sign of Pisces, and this is a gentle, subtle, and imaginative influence. We can experience heightened sensitivity to — and awareness of — beauty and spirituality, and we might feel renewed on creative levels. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are particularly attuned to the world of beauty and romance today. Psychic openness and compassion are themes in our interactions now. This can be a magical time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. However, a Mercury-Saturn sextile is also in play today, and it helps ground us, at least on mental levels. This transit promotes a deliberate and efficient approach to the world around us. We see the benefits of getting organized, making lists, attending to details, and making sound judgments and decisions. The Moon spends the day in stable, gentle Taurus.
FEBRUARY 22
The warm energy of yesterday’s Venus-Neptune conjunction is effectively extended to today. We’re meeting others with more compassion and giving one another the benefit of the doubt. We also benefit from a Mars-Saturn parallel that helps us channel our energies into our priorities. The Moon spends much of the day in Taurus, and then enters Gemini at 7:07 PM EST. The Taurus Moon encourages pacing ourselves and enjoying the moment, while the Moon in Gemini stimulates our curiosity about the world around us.
The Moon is void from 6:46 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Gemini at 7:07 PM EST.
FEBRUARY 23
Mercury forms a semi-square to Uranus and the Sun to Pluto today, and adjustments or minor tensions are likely. We may be rushing to complete something, to share an idea, or to communicate, but if we’re impatient, things may be half-done. We are quickly distracted and tired of regular conversations or routines today. Tensions can also surface if we’ve been holding onto worries and concerns. The more we bottle up, the more pressure builds. The Moon spends the day in Gemini, forming squares with the Sun, Neptune, Mercury, and Venus. The Sun-Moon square is the First Quarter Moon at 3:09 AM EST. There is continued tension throughout the day as we come to terms with a temporary emotional need to connect, communicate, and seek out facts when we’ve been aiming for a less mental approach to the world.
FEBRUARY 24
The Moon spends much of the day in the sign of Gemini, and then enters Cancer at 10:06 PM EST. While we tend to take a mental or intellectual approach to the day, as it advances, we may be in the position to draw upon our inner wisdom or our sixth sense and intuition to understand what’s happening around us. Previously hidden or unacknowledged talents may emerge. Even so, a Venus-Mars square that will be exact tomorrow can influence today, and we can feel some tension or dissatisfaction with the status quo. Ideally, this prompts creative improvements and changes.
The Moon is void from 2:58 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Uranus), until the Moon enters Cancer at 10:06 PM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We're motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to begin something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
People can be more self-motivated and also self-focused while the Moon is in Aries. It's a competitive rather than cooperative time. Accidents and tempers flaring are more likely than usual. This period is one of more personal courage.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and "stop to smell the roses." Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
While the Moon is in Taurus, people can be emotionally constant but inflexible. It's a time of stronger focus on personal needs and comfort levels, and a period of more common sense and attention to practical matters.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, spirited, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, cafes, light and airy meetings, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Aquarius This is a time when your path of self-development and expression becomes more and more unusual – setting you apart from the crowd and from all that is traditional. The new, the futuristic, the high-tech are the hallmarks of your lifestyle as the cycle gets underway. Ideas and technologies that change the way people live – not just one person, but many – are a major new focus in your life. Involvement with ideals and idealistic groups enhances your sense of purpose and mission.
Sun in Pisces The mystic, the martyr, the sinner, and the saint: these archetypes take on greater importance in your life at a time like this. Forgiveness, compassion, and understanding come naturally, when you look at life from an eternal perspective – and if anyone ever does know such things, you’ll probably come to understand them as this cycle unfolds. This can be a phase of sublime spiritual development, to be sure. But you should be aware of tendencies to believe too quickly, too deeply, or to become dependent on things or people that seem to offer quick and easy answers to life’s deepest yearnings.
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
Mars in Sagittarius Ideology is a keynote of the new phase you have begun – the power of ideas and the power they wield over people. Religious, cultural, or philosophical controversies and crusades have a way of stirring your blood. Travel and adventure are compelling temptations as you dare to test your mettle and stretch your horizons.
Jupiter in Scorpio The phase now beginning for you emphasizes fixing what is broken or unhealthy, thereby giving it a new lease on life. This is more than one person alone can handle, so the cooperation of others is essential. You give up something in order to get or create something, and you may not understand the reasons why at the time. Sex, money, power, and vitality become key issues.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
