The NEW MOON/SOLAR ECLIPSE occurs on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at 4:06 PM EST. On Thursday afternoon, the New Moon occurs in the sign of Aquarius. As a Solar Eclipse, its effects can impact the coming six months. In the sign of Aquarius, friendship, fellowship, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, humanitarian efforts, or joining a group can be in sharp focus, prompting new beginnings with these matters.
This eclipse aligns with Mercury, forms a sextile with Uranus, and loosely squares Jupiter. This is a time for seeing the facts or results more clearly, but we should watch for a tendency to go overboard with our expectations or promises. As a Venus-Saturn sextile occurs at the same time of the eclipse, we are bound to remember what’s promised now for some time. This is a period when we might solve problems that require thinking “outside of the box”; look to the future with a brand new, positive, and hopeful vision; brainstorm and socialize; focus on extending a friendly hand, receiving support, or expressing platonic love for those around us; give our emotions and passions a “break”, as we develop more objectivity and some detachment from past haunts; learn how something (or someone) works; revitalize ourselves through experiences that are new or simply different; reach out to people in our social circle and in our community; and recognize the value of our friendships and social networks.
Some level of detachment and distancing ourselves from our habits and attachment to the past can help us break away from destructive behaviors that are holding us back. With this potent Aquarius energy, we have the chance to make progressive changes in our lives. For some of us, circumstances are such that we need to pay more attention to these matters. Flaws in an important system in our lives are revealed around the time of the eclipse, prompting us to redo or to start fresh. Something ends in order for something else to start anew. Major developments in the personal areas ruled by Aquarius are likely to occur over the course of the coming months. Read more about the current eclipses.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 27 degrees and 8 minutes of Aquarius, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately and 21 to 30 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) and 0 to 3 degrees of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) most significantly.

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Aquarius; Mercury is in Aquarius until the 17th, when Mercury enters Pisces; Venus is in Pisces; Mars is in Sagittarius.
The Sun is in Aquarius from January 19-February 18, 2018. During this cycle, we are motivated by our hunger for knowledge, experience, and originality. Innovation is more important to us than convention. We become more aware of what is outdated in our lives and strive to find new perspectives and new ways to do things. The class distinctions, structure, and order that Capricorn finds appealing now seem to be too rigid. The freedom of the individual becomes far more significant to us. We strive to free ourselves from some of the restrictions, inhibitions, and limitations that now feel constraining rather than safe.
Mercury is in Aquarius from January 31-February 17. When Mercury is in Aquarius, we are hungry for knowledge and open to new and original ideas. We begin to think outside of the box, and our thinking becomes more progressive and objective. Our communication and thought patterns are spontaneous, somewhat fragmented, and liberal. This is a time when inventive thinking is at a peak.
Mercury is in Pisces from February 17-March 6. When Mercury is in Pisces, our thinking processes are more visual, intuitive, and imaginative. We are especially attuned to the world of emotion, which colors both our thoughts and our communication style. We guess well, express ourselves with imagery, and make decisions intuitively. We are more attracted to consciousness-raising information.
Venus is in Pisces from February 10-March 6. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach nevertheless, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be victimized or deluded, as well as evasiveness.
Mars is in Sagittarius from January 26-March 17. With a Sagittarius Mars, our actions are motivated by our ideals. We are bothered by routine, quickly becoming restless if we feel confined. We have a love of adventure, and of conquest–this is the position of wanderlust. We start projects or challenges with gusto, although we may tend to abandon them rather quickly. This may be because we set our sights too high!
Saturn transits Capricorn from December 19/20, 2017, to March 21, 2020; and then finishes up its transit from July 1 to December 17, 2020. Read about Saturn’s transit through Capricorn here.
Jupiter entered Scorpio on October 10th, 2017, and will remain in the sign until November 8th, 2018. Read about Jupiter in Scorpio transit here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011, and will transit Aries until May 15, 2018, and then from November 6, 2018, to March 6, 2019. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Pisces from February 10-March 6. A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
This week: Wednesday and Thursday can be intense for relationships, but also realistic and committed. Watch for jealousies now, but enjoy the clear thinking. On Saturday, we’re moving into freer and less committed energy on social and romantic levels.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus sextile Uranus February 6. We lose our fear of taking risks at this time, and we happily embrace all that is new, unusual, and out-of-the-ordinary with regards to romantic involvements. We are ready to experiment, but not necessarily ready to commit.
Venus semi-square Pluto February 14. Tendencies to look for something wrong in a relationship. Jealousy raises its ugly head.
Venus sextile Saturn February 15. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism in existing partnerships. Relationships begun under this influence possess a distinctly practical theme, almost as if the partnership is a business endeavor.
Venus contra-parallel Uranus February 17-18. Questions of freedom, change, specialness, and experimentation are raised in our relationships.
Venus semi-square Uranus February 18-19. Uncertainty about the desire to be close to someone. Freedom versus closeness. A desire to experiment in the romance department may be fleeting and ultimately unsatisfying or frustrating.
Venus conjunct Neptune February 20-21. New and fresh beginnings on romantic levels characterize this transit. Heightened sensitivity to, and awareness of, beauty and spirituality. We are easily influenced, seducible and seductive, and given to strong powers of imagination. We are more attuned to the world of beauty and romance. Gentleness with others is the best way to harness this energy. A “magical” time on a romantic and social level, but it could also be a confusing or illusory influence as well. Psychic openness and compassion.
The Moon & Timing
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology).
Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology. The following tables incorporate the modern planets, but some astrologers do not count Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto in void Moon calculations.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Tuesday, February 13th, from 12:44 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 10:12 AM EST.
VOC Moon on Thursday, February 15th, from 4:06 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to the Sun), until the Moon enters Pisces at 9:42 PM EST.
VOC Moon on Saturday, February 17th, from 5:14 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Sunday, February 18th, at 7:05 AM EST.
February 2018:
Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on February 15th — a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waxing this week after the New Moon on February 15th — a period that is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a window of opportunity occurs this week on Saturday, February 17th, from approximately 12:35 AM to 5:10 PM EST, while the Moon is in Pisces, but better after the Mars-Neptune square, from approximately 7:20 AM to 5:10 PM. Keep in mind, though, that this is still quite close to the eclipse.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus. A tendency to take risks, to feel restless, to act on sudden impulses without considering consequences.
Mercury semi-square Saturn. Red tape, re-doing tasks we thought we had finished, problems getting from point A to point B, delays in communication, negative thinking, hyper-sensitivity and criticism–these are all potentials now. The energy is best used for focusing on fixing errors rather than harping on how irritating they are!
Mercury square Jupiter. Information overload is possible today. It is all too easy to miss or neglect important details. We may exaggerate, have a hard time putting our ideas to practical use, or overstate under this influence. This is an unfavorable transit for travel. Our ideas and plans may be too grandiose just now. We could have a hard time convincing others of our point of view, and we could too easily jump to conclusions. There could be a lot of talk about nothing. Lack of clear mental focus, but we may make measurable progress if we can concentrate.
Sun sextile Uranus. We are willing to adapt to new circumstances, ideas, and unfamiliar situations. It’s a good time to join organizations and groups and to attend meetings or social events, as these can be enlightening. We can find creative solutions to problems now and effect positive changes. Flexibility is the key to success under this influence.
Venus semi-square Pluto. This influence can point to some underlying tensions in social interactions (looking for an ulterior motive or an agenda, suspiciousness) and relationships (possible jealousies). Passions run high and hot, but there’s a hidden agenda. Feelings of jealousy and possessiveness run so close to the surface that others can almost feel the heat, and they are in direct proportion to our fear of losing something or someone dear to us. Avoid starting a new relationship at this time, because it can be characterized by these energies. Sometimes, this transit correlates with unreciprocated feelings in love or romantic disappointment. Often, financial matters come to the fore. Manipulation can color relationships now. Avoid power plays with friends and lovers.
Mercury sextile Uranus. This is an opportune time to attend meetings and other organized group activities, to communicate online, and to take part in activities involving computers, scientific projects, and metaphysics. Unexpected gains may be realized through such mediums. The intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue”. Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding.
Venus sextile Saturn. Affections stabilize and mature. Relationships are stabilized and steady, although feelings are expressed reservedly, formally, or sparingly. A new sense of realism in existing partnerships comes now. Small advances can be made in business and in partnerships. Support from older people or authority figures may come by way of solid advice or tangible help. Renewed ties to old friends are possible, or a new sense of responsibility in existing friendships.
Mars square Neptune. Inspiration comes from unusual sources, but you have a hard time staying focused and organized. Energy may be variable. Intuition is strong, but may be faulty. Not a good time to begin a new project or affair.
Mercury conjunct Sun. We are especially sharp, communicative, and open at this time, as our wants are aligned with our thoughts. It’s a favorable time for solving problems. What we say or write now has impact, for better or for worse!

FEBRUARY 11
The Moon spends the day in Capricorn, aligning with Saturn this morning. This Moon-Saturn-Capricorn energy is sobering. We aim to be more responsible, practical, and efficient under this influence. We’re in great shape for understanding, teaching, absorbing, and learning today as Mercury and Jupiter form a parallel. As the day advances, we may wrestle with some impatience as Mars and Uranus move into a dynamic aspect. We may be itching for a change, but not entirely sure where to start.
FEBRUARY 12
The Moon is in responsible Capricorn all day, and we are a little more cautious than usual. However, the Moon’s alignment with Pluto and sextile to Jupiter increases our confidence and faith, as well as our ambitions. We see the value of strategy once past an early morning Mars-Uranus aspect. As the day advances, a Mercury-Saturn semi-square can point to increased sensitivity to criticism, worry, or pessimistic thinking. It’s an excellent time to work on fixing errors and problems, but not a time for taking a risk or branching out.
FEBRUARY 13
With many squares happening today, we can feel at crossroads. We may be having a hard time reconciling our thinking with our feelings, or we could sense that others are blocking or challenging our ideas or questioning our attachments. There can be difficulty coming to satisfying conclusions. A Mercury-Jupiter square inclines us to exaggerate, overstate, jump to conclusions, or blow things out of proportion. Information overload is possible now, and it’s all too easy to miss or neglect essential details. There could be a lot of talk about nothing now and a lack of clear mental focus, but we may make measurable progress if we can concentrate, and even if we can’t, our attitude is positive. Exciting new ideas can result. As well, a Sun-Uranus sextile later today stimulates willingness to adapt to new circumstances, ideas, and unfamiliar situations. The Moon in Aquarius from 10:12 AM forward reinforces these themes. Group connections can be enlightening. We might arrive at creative solutions to problems and make positive changes. This is a time for flexibility.
The Moon is void from 12:44 AM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a square to Uranus), until the Moon enters Aquarius at 10:12 AM EST.
FEBRUARY 14
With both the Sun’s alignment with Juno in Aquarius and a semi-square between Venus and Pluto today, power dynamics in relationships are in sharp focus. We are taking pride in our relationships, and we may be putting forth extra effort to strengthen and support others, as well as to build trust. However, conceding may feel as if we are giving up something of ourselves. Underlying tensions in social interactions can surface today, and we’re inclined to look for ulterior motives or feel possessive. Manipulation can color relationships if we’re not careful today. However, we move towards a Mercury-Uranus sextile that introduces some much-needed healthy detachment and objectivity. Talking things through can be very useful now. Bright ideas are surfacing. We’re breathing life into our projects. A Solar Eclipse occurs tomorrow night, making it appropriate to wind down and reflect today.
FEBRUARY 15
A partial Solar Eclipse occurs today at 4:06 PM EST in the sign of Aquarius. This eclipse prompts turning over a new leaf regarding friendship, fellowship, group activities, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, humanitarian efforts, or joining a group. Occurring today and tied nicely into the eclipse energy (which effectively extends the influence of these aspects) are lovely Mercury-Uranus and Venus-Saturn sextiles. A sextile between Mercury and Uranus this morning opens our minds to new, progressive ideas. Our intuition is strong, and insights seem to come from “out of the blue.” Original, creative ideas are easy to come by. We can take advantage of our ability to see things in a new light by breathing life into old projects or solving problems in new, creative ways. Varying our usual routine may be especially rewarding. With Venus sextile Saturn later today, however, affections stabilize and mature. A new sense of realism in existing partnerships might come now. Small advances can be made in business and in partnerships. We are drawn to productive pastimes, and we are a little more sensible when it comes to seeking out pleasure and comfort. A new sense of responsibility might emerge with friendships. We give one another space, yet we’re also showing our commitment. This is an excellent time to connect with others and to build trust. The Moon enters Pisces at 9:42 PM EST.
The Moon is void from 4:06 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to the Sun), until the Moon enters Pisces at 9:42 PM EST.
FEBRUARY 16
The Moon is in Pisces all day, heightening our awareness of our spiritual nature and needs. We can also be evasive and shy away from conflict, especially confrontation now. Decisions or commitments may not be easy under the influence of a Pisces Moon, but tapping into our intuition is. A Mars-Neptune square that is exact tomorrow morning holds some sway over today and emphasizes the uncertain, deceptive, or escapist tendencies of a Neptune-ruled Moon. With Mars-Neptune, we may struggle to focus on our priorities, and energy may be up and down, particularly if inspiration wavers. Motivation or energy levels may wane as we can feel overwhelmed with possibilities and uncertain about our next step. This is temporary, and we’re in particularly fine shape on a mental level, as we’re curious and alert with the Sun moving towards a conjunction with Mercury.
FEBRUARY 17
The Mars-Neptune square perfects this morning, and inspiration can come from unusual sources, or we temporarily lose some motivation, and this prompts a change of course or a break from the action. Energy is up and down now, and desires are hard to pin down. In stark contrast, a superior conjunction occurs with the Sun’s alignment with Mercury this morning. This influence typically brings clarity and sharpness. What we say or write now has an impact, for better or for worse! This is an excellent time to fill in the details of recent ideas that have been forming and for turning recent emotional discoveries into something useful and workable. However, since Mars-Neptune occurs at the same time, we should watch for being led astray by wishful thinking. Tonight, Mercury enters Pisces and will transit the sign until March 6th. The Moon spends another day in Pisces.
The Moon is void from 5:14 PM EST, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Jupiter), until the Moon enters Aries the next day, Sunday, February 18th, at 7:05 AM EST.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Capricorn
We become aware of the need for structure and planning ahead. We also instinctively are aware of the limitations of time. We are motivated by a desire for success. Achievement and manifestation are most important to us now. We are resourceful and don't want to waste time, energy, or resources. This can be a very sober influence--even a depressing one. However, it can also be a productive time when we look reality in the eye.
The Moon in Capricorn generally favors the following activities: Long-term activities that yield slow but steady results, practical undertakings, career issues, making a business plan, practical investments.
When the Moon is in Aquarius
Attraction to all that is new and unusual, and an instinctive need for improvement, characterize the Moon in Aquarius. Reactions are more intellectual than emotional, and interactions are more impersonal than personal, under this influence. This is a time that promotes social gatherings, dealing with group ideals and goals for the future, brainstorming, new ideas, and progressive changes. We are open to new methods of doing things and we have our eye on the future. It can be hard to stick to schedules now, as personal freedom is most important to us.
The Moon in Aquarius generally favors the following activities: Unusual or radical undertakings, social pursuits, group projects, trying something new, joining a group.
When the Moon is in Pisces
We may not want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It's a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
Upcoming Weeks: Calendars
THIS WEEK’S PLANETARY POSITIONS BY SIGN (General Trends):
Sun in Aquarius This is a time when your path of self-development and expression becomes more and more unusual – setting you apart from the crowd and from all that is traditional. The new, the futuristic, the high-tech are the hallmarks of your lifestyle as the cycle gets underway. Ideas and technologies that change the way people live – not just one person, but many – are a major new focus in your life. Involvement with ideals and idealistic groups enhances your sense of purpose and mission.
Mercury in Aquarius The tried and true doesn’t cut it anymore: it’s the new, the unique, and the original that catches and holds your interest now. Idealism, rationality, and critical thinking become more and more a part of your mental patterns and the way you communicate. You are inventive, original, high tech.
Mercury in Pisces Knowing things without knowing how you know them is typical at a time like this. The mystical, the universal, the eternal: these are the things that stir your curiosity. Call it psychic, call it deja vu … it can be there when you call on it, whatever you call it. (Remembering the little things might become more difficult, however: it’s tough to remember if you paid the electric bill when you’re more interested in the eternal verities.)
Mars in Sagittarius Ideology is a keynote of the new phase you have begun – the power of ideas and the power they wield over people. Religious, cultural, or philosophical controversies and crusades have a way of stirring your blood. Travel and adventure are compelling temptations as you dare to test your mettle and stretch your horizons.
Jupiter in Scorpio The phase now beginning for you emphasizes fixing what is broken or unhealthy, thereby giving it a new lease on life. This is more than one person alone can handle, so the cooperation of others is essential. You give up something in order to get or create something, and you may not understand the reasons why at the time. Sex, money, power, and vitality become key issues.
Saturn in Capricorn Responsibility, hard work, ambition, and achievement: these are the foundations you need to build on now, as a new cycle dawns in your life. And yet, there is a tendency to be a little too hard, perhaps a bit cold, in your approach to these things. Let ambition take you to the top, but don’t let it lull you into thinking that the end justifies the means.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
