The NEW MOON occurs on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at 8:16 AM EDT.
On Friday afternoon, a new cycle begins. The Aries New Moon cycle ends and the Taurus New Moon cycle begins.
The New Moon in Taurus is a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Bull. It’s time to enjoy life’s simple and physical pleasures–savor good food, and enjoy activities that bring us in touch with nature and with our bodies. It’s time to stop and smell the roses and to become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure. This is a good cycle under which to re-evaluate our relationship to money and possessions, as well as to discover what truly makes us happy and fulfilled.
With this potent Taurus energy, we have the chance to make important changes in our lives. It’s time to make some solid yet realistic plans and to set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs. This New Moon forms a trine with the North Node in Virgo and a wide sextile with Neptune, suggesting that it’s easier to connect with a sense of purpose for making changes and starting anew.
This phase of the Moon occurs at 6 degrees and 27 minutes of Taurus, affecting people born with personal planets and points at approximately 2 to 10 degrees of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) most significantly.

May 2, 2017, 10:47 PM Sun Square Moon (First Quarter Moon)
May 10, 2017, 5:42 PM Sun Opposition Moon (Full Moon)

(Times are Eastern)
The Sun is in Taurus; retrograde Mercury is in Aries; Venus is in Pisces until April 28th, when it enters Aries; Mars is in Gemini.
The Sun is in Taurus from April 19-May 20. In Taurus, the Sun is methodical, sensual, and receptive. The Sun in Taurus is most active when it is defending or resisting things! As the Sun moves through Taurus when plants take root, our determination and security needs are strong. Taurus is loyal to all that is familiar, and values longevity. The shadow side of Taurus is possessiveness and bullheadedness.
Mercury is in Aries from April 20-May 16. When Mercury is in Aries, we are less concerned with objective viewpoints and explanations, and more concerned with reaching a decision…quickly! Our thoughts and ideas are pioneering, and we tend to speak more spontaneously and directly with the planet of communication in bold and assertive Aries.
Venus is in Pisces from April 2-28. Pisces never sees the world in black-and-white terms. Rather, Pisces sees all the colors of the rainbow. With the goddess of love in Pisces, our love is all-embracing, we are able to forgive and understand, we are seducible and seductive, and we show compassion to our partners. Venus in Pisces is tender and affectionate, although hard to reach nevertheless, as there is a longing for something that is hard to define and hard to satisfy. Borders and boundaries blur under Venus in Pisces. The shadow side of this position is allowing ourselves to be victimized or deluded, as well as evasiveness.
Venus is in Aries from April 28-June 6. In Aries, love is spontaneous and direct. The chase is very exciting to us under this fiery influence. We are bold, fresh, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We don’t look back with Aries energy. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. It’s a brand new day! It’s time to make things work right now. Aries is known for a love of the chase and the conquest, but Aries love can be longstanding as long as it remains relatively fresh. Aries is blunt–there’s no sugar-coating with Aries. This can sting, but rarely is Aries energy mean or petty. Saying it like it is is important to Aries. Desires are strong and expressed spontaneously, enthusiastically, and directly. Aries prefers to seduce rather than be seduced, to chase rather than be chased.
Mars is in Gemini from April 21-June 4. In Gemini, Mars is considerably more versatile and flexible–and considerably less determined and focused! Our interests become more diversified, possibly to the point of going off on so many tangents that we are scattered and ineffective.

Times are Eastern
Mercury is retrograde all week. (Mercury remains retrograde until May 3rd and in its post-retrograde shadow until May 20th).
Saturn transits Sagittarius from December 23, 2014, to June 14, 2015, and then from September 17, 2015, to December 20, 2017. Read about Saturn’s transit through Sagittarius here.
Jupiter entered Libra on September 9th, 2016, and will transit Libra until October 10, 2017. Read about Jupiter in Libra here.
Uranus entered Aries on March 11th, 2011. The urge to start fresh, to break free from restrictive attitudes or circumstances, to totally redesign an area of our lives (or even our personalities), and to gain freedom through independence is strong with Uranus in Aries.
Romance & Relationships
Venus is in Pisces from April 2 -28. Like Aquarius, Pisces love is universal. However, Pisces draws no bounds in love. With Venus in Pisces, we have compassion (and perhaps attraction) for those who are left out, overlooked, or victimized. We are self-sacrificing, and we have a hard time setting up borders. The walls go down, we have a hard time saying no (especially if our compassion is engaged), but we are also prone to avoiding all that makes us feel uncomfortable. Wishful thinking is one expression of Venus in Pisces. We can too easily believe what we want to believe. People can be hard to pin down, and love is hard to define under this influence.
Venus is in Aries from April 28 -June 6.
This week: Venus forms no major aspects to the major planets this week (although it always connects with the fast-moving Moon). Venus re-enters the sign of Aries on the 28th and retraces the steps it took while in retrograde motion until Venus emerges from its post-retrograde shadow on May 18th. We may be symbolically doing the same, gradually finding our finances and relationships clearer and more straightforward. The lack of connections this week suggests we may be feeling a little disjointed as yet.
Venus, the Goddess of Love: Highlights in the Coming Week:
Venus in Pisces A martyr complex, a love for the underdog, a search for your soul mate: such are the experiences associated with the new cycle you’re now just beginning. A yen for soul-stirring romance, a weakness for the weak, and a tendency to idealize people and relationships … very aesthetic, very other-worldly.
Venus in Aries Romance at the drop of a hat is part and parcel of the cycle you have just begun. Winning the hearts of others can be a challenge you’re eager to accept – and the thrill of the chase might be most of the fun. Is it the pursuit of happiness – or the happiness of pursuit?
Venus square Saturn April 20-21. Feeling unsatisfied, isolated, and unloved. Personal relationships are likely to be strained as we express our affections cautiously and sparingly. If we believe we are not getting what we want in love, we attract negative situations and challenges in our relationships. This is not a good time to begin a new relationship–new ones begun now are likely to be stamped with themes of duty and restriction.
Venus parallel Chiron May 9-10. Healing energy is brought to love relationships, and a new cycle begins. A commitment-friendly transit. Love can heal old wounds. We are open to romantic feelings, and more willing to act upon them. This is a good time to make a resolution to repair, heal, and improve relationships.
Venus opposition Jupiter May 18-19. We are easily bored with the everyday responsibilities and routines of our love lives, and are now inclined to dramatize our lives. As a result, our love natures are strong, but insatiable. We may overstate our feelings as we temporarily overvalue someone; or we face challenges in our relationships due to overblown expectations. We are itching for adventure and fun, but the wisest course of action is to avoid ignoring our responsibilities (and reality) in our efforts towards self-gratification.
The Void of Course Moon is the period of time after the Moon has made its last aspect in one sign until the Moon enters a new sign. During Void of Course Moon periods, it is generally wise to stick to routine rather than to begin new projects. The last aspect the Moon makes before changing signs is indicated here and is indicative of the “outcome” of the matter (whether that is a new project begun before the void period or the answer to a question in Horary Astrology). Void of Course in Horary Astrology: If you were asking a question and making a chart for the answer, as you do in Horary astrology, it is said that since the Moon is not looking forward to any more aspects in this sign, you would have to say that the answer is not forthcoming; any questions asked at this time would not come to pass. The Moon being Void is one of the Strictures against Judgment in Horary Astrology.
The Void-of-Course Moon this Week:
Void-of-course Moon on Sunday, April 23rd, from 5:36 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries at 8:34 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Tuesday, April 25th, from 5:54 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Taurus at 9:57 PM EDT.
VOC Moon on Thursday, April 27th, from 9:20 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Gemini at 9:40 PM EDT (a very short void period!).
VOC Moon on Saturday, April 29th, from 5:29 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Saturn), until the Moon enters Cancer at 9:49 PM EDT.

Timing with the Moon – Better Periods this Week for Electing New Initiatives
The Moon is waning this week until the New Moon on the 26th — a period that is generally considered unfavorable for new beginnings, with exceptions. (See Best Time to Start a Business for more details). The Moon is waxing this week after the New Moon on the 26th — a period that is generally considered favorable for new beginnings, with exceptions.
According to principles of timing with the Moon, a short and imperfect window of opportunity occurs on April 23rd from approximately 5:00 to 5:35 PM EDT while the Moon is in Pisces. Another window occurs on April 25th from approximately 5:50 AM to 5:50 PM while the Moon is in Aries. Another window occurs from 10 PM on April 25th to 9:15 PM EDT on April 27th. Most of this window is too close to the New Moon to be useful for new beginnings. However, a Cazimi Moon occurs in the hour surrounding the New Moon, from approximately 7:47 AM to 8:47 AM EDT. Note, however, that Mercury is retrograde during these windows.

This Week’s Calendar
This Week’s Aspects
Mars sesquiquadrate Jupiter. Although we may have much enthusiasm for life and for new projects, over-confidence and over-estimation of what we can do is likely. We are ready and willing to fight for our beliefs. We may be excitable and competitive. Jumping ahead without considering the consequences can be costly.
Mercury trine Saturn. Clear, realistic thinking characterizes this influence. A good time to get organized, to do detail work, and to prepare for the future. Decisions made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Work done now is likely to beget tangible results in the future. Conversations may be spare but to the point. Manifestation and achievement are what satisfy.
Mars sesquiquadrature Pluto. Our desires are intense and difficult to satisfy under this influence. A tendency to bully and confront may dominate. Efforts to make changes could be thwarted, or power struggles emerge. The trick is to remain flexible and to develop strategies for achieving our goals.
Mercury conjunct Uranus. The ability to grasp intellectual concepts is high right now. Our intuition is spot-on, and we tend to have the right idea at the right moment. The senses may be overloaded, to the point that we are scatter-brained, impulsive, nervous, or impatient. If channeled well, however, our ideas are inventive, original, progressive, and unbiased.
Next Week – may be available in advance.

What’s In Store By the Stars – Daily Astrology Trends
(as featured on our site’s main page and in our Daily Trends Calendar)
APRIL 23
The Moon continues its transit of Pisces until 8:34 PM EDT, after which it moves into Aries. While the Pisces Moon is flowing and easygoing, a Mars-Jupiter challenge this morning can wind us up. Enthusiasm and motivation can be wonderful now if we know where to channel excess energy, but over-confidence and over-estimation of what we are capable of doing may lead to poor decisions or regrettable actions. This can be a competitive, perhaps argumentative influence. A Mars-Node square points to possible blocks to our progress, likely involving excess ego and/or impatience. The Moon enters fiery Aries this evening, but we are also moving towards a Mercury-Saturn trine, exact tomorrow morning, which favors measured and considered choices and points to realistic thinking and a desire for order and organization. This is a good time for attention to detail and a pragmatic concern for the future, even if we’re turning our attention to the past. Assessments made now tend to be practical and well thought out. Conversations may be spare but to the point. Manifestation and achievement are what satisfy on mental levels right now.
A void of course Moon occurs from 5:36 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a conjunction to Venus), until the Moon enters Aries at 8:34 PM EDT.
APRIL 24
The Moon is in trailblazing Aries all day, and we’re emotionally ready to take action or start fresh, although we may be a little hesitant or indecisive on a mental level. However, early today, we are making valuable and realistic assessments. We’re cautious with our expectations or at least reminding ourselves to be so. As the day advances, we look for opportunities to spread our wings. As the Moon opposes Jupiter tonight, we can be anxious to believe in something or connect with a higher purpose, but may not quite find what we’re seeking. This is “borrow from the future” energy, and we should be careful not to commit to something for which we don’t yet have the resources.
APRIL 25
The Moon is in Aries all day, aligning with Mercury and Uranus in the sign, giving us a taste of the inventive, excited energy of the upcoming Mercury-Uranus alignment that will be exact on the 28th. Revelations about the past are on the horizon, and they can ultimately lead to new beginnings, but for now, watch for going in mental circles today. We crave instant results now, and we’re quick to react. The Moon’s trine to Saturn does help us focus to some degree. However, what we begin now we may not finish, not only because of Aries’ boredom with following through but also because the Moon is Balsamic today with a New Moon occurring tomorrow morning. We’re symbolically in the dark as we clear the way for new beginnings.
A void of course Moon occurs from 5:54 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a trine to Saturn), until the Moon enters Taurus at 9:57 PM EDT.
APRIL 26
The New Moon occurs this morning at 8:17 AM EDT in the sign of Taurus, making it a good time to commit to personal goals that express the positive energies of the sign of the Bull. It’s time to enjoy life’s simple and physical pleasures, as well as activities that bring us in touch with nature and with our bodies. It’s time to “stop and smell the roses” and to become more aware of what makes us feel comfortable and secure. This is an excellent cycle under which to re-evaluate our relationship to money and possessions, as well as to discover what truly makes us happy and fulfilled. We may be building and developing the initiatives and innovations begun in the Aries cycle. With this potent Taurus energy, we have the chance to make significant changes in our lives. In the coming week, we might make realistic plans and set the stage for reaping the rewards from our new beginnings, as little or big as they may be, in approximately two weeks’ time after the Full Moon occurs. This New Moon forms a trine with the North Node in Virgo and a wide sextile with Neptune, suggesting that it’s easier to connect with a sense of purpose for making changes and starting anew.
APRIL 27
A Mars-Pluto dynamic aspect today can point to some tensions as we recognize the need for change but may be putting too much pressure on ourselves to make it happen. Accumulated anger, emotional slush, and resentment may emerge now in disruptive ways. We’re inclined to feel at battle with ourselves and others. Our desires are intense and difficult to satisfy under this influence, likely because we feel pressured to achieve more than is currently possible. There is some tendency to bully and confront now if we’re looking for the upper hand. Efforts to make changes could be thwarted, or power struggles emerge. There can be a tendency to want to manipulate or connive to get what we want now. Tricks to making the best of this influence are to draw upon self-control, remain flexible, and develop strategies for achieving our goals. The Taurus Moon for much of the day (until 9:40 PM EDT) may not minify the potential stubbornness of this influence but can help shield us from external pressures. Finances and possessions can come into focus now. The Moon enters Gemini at 9:40 PM EDT and we seek out mental stimulation and variety.
A void of course Moon occurs from 9:20 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (a sextile to Venus), until the Moon enters Gemini at 9:40 PM EDT (a very short void period!).
APRIL 28
Venus began its transit of Aries on February 3rd. However, it turned retrograde in early March and then retreated into Pisces at the beginning of April. Venus re-enters Aries today and will continue its transit of the sign until June 6th. Until May 16th, Venus continues to transit the degrees of the sign that it covered while retrograde (its shadow period). Venus in Aries is positive, enthusiastic, and forthright. We are bold, spontaneous, and a little impatient when it comes to matters of the heart. We are not interested in saying sorry or dwelling on the past. Venus in Aries is direct and assertive with an innocent or upfront charm. There can be a great love of all that is new, fresh, and unexplored, particularly related to love, money, and pleasure. Retrograde Mercury and Uranus align in Aries today, and we might revisit conversations, ideas, or projects from late March. We should watch for hasty decisions, conclusions, and statements. We can have a hard time keeping our attention on ordinary, monotonous, or routine matters, and can make some big omissions as a result. However, this is a powerful time for new insights into old problems. The Moon is in Gemini all day — another influence that keeps our minds in motion. It may not be easy to concentrate today, but it can be a fine time for picking up interesting information.
APRIL 29
The Moon is in Gemini until 9:49 PM EDT, and we’re exceptionally resourceful today, particularly around early afternoon when the Moon harmonizes with Mercury and Uranus in Aries. We’re attracted to new ideas and approaches and might find it difficult concentrating on lifeless or ordinary tasks. It’s a good time to gather information. The Moon’s opposition to Saturn around early evening can leave us feeling inhibited or criticized. However, we might learn from negative reviews coming in now if they’re constructive. The Moon enters Cancer at 9:49 PM and restlessness gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. The Cancer Moon can turn our attention to situations, places, and people we consider safe and familiar.
A void of course Moon occurs from 5:29 PM EDT, with the Moon’s last aspect before changing signs (an opposition to Saturn), until the Moon enters Cancer at 9:49 PM EDT.

Moon Signs This Week:
When the Moon is in Pisces
We are not inclined to want to face reality while the Moon is in dreamy, impressionable Pisces. It can be a wistful, sensitive, intuitive, and compassionate time. We are especially imaginative, and our intuition reigns under this influence. Boundaries and walls come down, as Pisces energy merges and blends. It’s a time when details are overlooked and feelings defy description.
The Moon in Pisces generally favors the following activities: Imaginative undertakings, mystical or spiritual pursuits, inner development, music and drama, going on a retreat, activities involving water.
When the Moon is in Aries
We’re motivated by a strong desire to start fresh. A gut instinct to start something new is with us now, as well as the gumption to do so. Our pioneering impulses are strong, and we feel energetic, spontaneous, and enthusiastic. We may also be tactless and impulsive now. Excess energy is best channeled into physical activity.
The Moon in Aries generally favors the following activities: Quick actions that yield immediate results. Undertakings that involve the self and the personality. (Staying power may be lacking). Self-assertion, taking on challenges, beginning short-term projects.
When the Moon is in Taurus
We are motivated by the desire for serenity, security, peace, and comfort. The Moon is at her most sensual and constant in Taurus. Our basic impulses are to relax, resist change, and “stop to smell the roses”. Life slows down a little, and we get comfortable. We may also be inclined to stubbornness and materialism under this influence.
The Moon in Taurus generally favors the following activities: Substantial and material actions that yield solid results. Financial activities, and those involving personal possessions, applying for a loan, beginning a potentially long-term relationship, music, home decor.
When the Moon is in Gemini
Our basic instinct is to communicate, think, and learn under the influence of Moon in Gemini. We are motivated by a desire for variety and by an instinctive curiosity. The Moon in Gemini is light-hearted, breezy, and curious, but it can also be restless and fickle.
The Moon in Gemini generally favors the following activities: Mental and communicative actions, and more than one activity at once. Reading, learning, letters and emails, errands, writing, teaching, making connections, short trips.
When the Moon is in Cancer
The restlessness of the Gemini Moon gives way to an instinctive need for peace and quiet. A feeling of belonging and safety is what motivates us under this influence. The Moon feels right at home in the sign of Cancer, as it rules the sign. This Moon position has much healing potential. Although insular by nature, our feelings run deep, making it an ideal time to get in touch with what motivates us.
The Moon in Cancer generally favors the following activities: Domestic activities, those that involve awareness of personal needs. Home decor, family get-togethers.
This Week’s Planetary Positions By Sign (General Trends)
Sun in Taurus The cycle now dawning in your life emphasizes stability, substance, practicality, and the concept of value – value in the material as well as psycho-spiritual sense. This marks a time of building to last, of appreciating the substantial rather than ephemeral. Consolidating past gains rather than focusing on radical new departures is likely to be a major theme for you during this cycle. Appreciating the finer things of life is another hallmark of this phase, which marks a time when you should be concentrating on “smelling the roses” rather than passing them by in such a hurry.
Mercury in Aries New ideas and an independent or pioneering mental orientation take on more importance in your life at this time. Teaching, learning, communicating, and social contact have a way of outlining new directions in your life now, and there is much activity and involvement with these kinds of issues.
Mars in Gemini Learning, communicating, the exchange of ideas: these are the experiences you crave as a means to make your mark now, as a new phase begins in your life. You’re a person with something to say, and you realize that others have information that is essential to your goals. A time of much mental energy and initiative … perhaps with an element of conflict tossed in for good measure.
Jupiter in Libra The ties that bind, the harmonious integration of opposites, the perfect balance: these are the keys to your greatest opportunities now. Marriage and other close personal relationships tend to offer bright prospects, and you have a deep yearning to experience the fulfillment they can bring.
Saturn in Sagittarius The new phase now beginning in your life brings a need to break out of narrow concepts and legalistic philosophical or religious ideas. Remember: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds.” Opportunities to broaden your mental horizons may not come with ease, but they are essential if you are to avoid a kind of spiritual stagnation.
Uranus in Aries A clean break with the past in some respects is signaled by the cycle you have just begun. What YOU need, YOUR freedom and independence, shattering old molds: these are the things that energize you and take priority in your life. Uniqueness and originality set you apart.
Neptune in Pisces Things spiritual and psychic take the driver’s seat of your imagination as you begin a new cycle. The fine arts and all manner of fantasies assume a larger-than-life importance. Surrendering to fate, karma, and other powers greater than merely mortal may be seen as the ultimate liberation. If all is Maya (illusion), what is the reality that gives rise to the world of appearances?
Pluto in Capricorn As this new phase dawns for you, the pursuit of social/political power and status has a way of seeming necessary and inevitable – and let nothing stand in its way. It starts out small but has bigger consequences than you’d think. Ambition, responsibility, a place for everyone and everyone in their place…
